If you breastfed, when did your period come back?

Only 6 months pp but thinking about baby number 2!

DD is EBF but has been sleeping through consistently since about 6 weeks. I thought this would trigger the return of my period, but nothing yet!

If you breastfed, when did yours come back? Is there anything that will make it more/less likely? Very aware the small age gap we wanted might not actually be possible unless I stop BF DD which I don’t want to do!

4 months with my first, 3 with my second. Felt massively mugged off both times.

QuiltedHippo · 09/11/2023 22:08

6 weeks as soon as they slept through, also totally mugged off. As they swiftly stopped sleeping through. Had barely stopped post birth bleeding!

Feeds might drop off a bit with starting weaning around now, wonder if that might help

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 09/11/2023 22:11

I’m exclusively breastfeeding now and got some light bleeding last week. I’m not sure whether to count it as a period as it was so light and lasted less than one day. My son is 5 months old tomorrow.

TheShellBeach · 09/11/2023 22:13

Not until I completely stopped feeding at night.

Lovelydaytomorrow · 09/11/2023 22:13

5.5 months and 4.5 months. Both were FAR from sleeping through. I felt cheated.

rickandmorts · 09/11/2023 22:14

10 months, still feeding through the night once or twice

Pollywoddles · 09/11/2023 22:14

20 months postpartum and still no sign of it, I’m still feeding at night.

lovehisDobbyears · 09/11/2023 22:14

Mine were fully breastfed. Stopped breastfeeding when they were 13 months' old. Both times my period started 2 weeks after finishing breastfeeding.

SisterA · 09/11/2023 22:15

About 8/9 months both times, after we started weaving basically & feeds started tapering down.

Ponderingwindow · 09/11/2023 22:15

Breastfed to 3 years
period came back just after 6 months. Seemed to correlate with baby starting to eat solids, but could have been a coincidence.

Dinosaurus86 · 09/11/2023 22:16

10.5 months - I was still doing about 3 feeds a day and 1 at night

SwordToFlamethrower · 09/11/2023 22:16

My period randomly appeared yesterday, at 12 months post partum!

I'm still bf round the clock too, so no idea why it's come back. Last time, I was at 14 months post partum and I'd just had my first full night undisturbed sleep.

ladygindiva · 09/11/2023 22:16

Four weeks. Four fucking weeks.

AlltheFs · 09/11/2023 22:16

4 months which was incredibly disappointing!

biscuitcat · 09/11/2023 22:16

About 7 months with the first, still feeding in the night multiple times and hardly taking any solids. My second is nearly 7 months now, also still breastfed with hardly any solids going in, and no sign of it yet - hopefully not too long as we'd like a third!

TheBestSpoon · 09/11/2023 22:17

Eight months and ten days each time. DS1 was sleeping through the night from six months, DS2 still has a night feed about 50% of the time at eighteen months, both of them were gradually combi fed from 3 months onwards as I was going back to work at 7 months so needed them just feeding morning, evening and overnight.

HamstersAreMyLife · 09/11/2023 22:17

4 weeks. The hospital didn't believe I was actually BF. It was such a disappointment

CeilingWacks · 09/11/2023 22:18

My older ones, as soon as I stopped feeding, at 12 months. My younger one, 18 months, even though i was still feeding him several times day and night.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/11/2023 22:18

In theory feeding at night is what keeps it at bay but my first slept through from 6 weeks (till 4 months and then not for fucking yeeeaars) and second from 8 weeks and it came back a month earlier the second time. Not much stops my cycle, it’s like clockwork.

The good thing is they’ve been completely pain free since DC2, first period I literally went for a wee and there it was. After decades of agony, pmt bloating for days before, breast pain, the whole shebang. It’s been a revelation.

Hope yours comes back soon OP and best of luck ttc!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 09/11/2023 22:18

18 months first time round
Second time around my son is two next week, I'm still feeding and it's not back!

Morag273 · 09/11/2023 22:19

18 months. I did read you can increase calories in going in to bring back your cycle (as BFing is a lot of calories going out). Not a nutritionist/health professional myself but may be worth looking in to.

Lifechoicesinhindsight · 09/11/2023 22:19

Both times around 6 weeks into weaning. So 5 1/2 months and 7 1/2 months. At which point hhey were eating more and having less milk.

DresdenDoll · 09/11/2023 22:19

18 months both times (I fed for longer than that)

PurpleChrayne · 09/11/2023 22:19

At 6 months with DD, when she started on some solids.

Still waiting this time with DS. He's 10 months. On solids but still drinks a lot of milk and he's absolutely massive.

Wish my period would come back so we can try for #3, but I dont want to completely wean him.

Jane1727 · 09/11/2023 22:20

I fell pregnant again before it did.
