If you breastfed, when did your period come back?

Only 6 months pp but thinking about baby number 2!

DD is EBF but has been sleeping through consistently since about 6 weeks. I thought this would trigger the return of my period, but nothing yet!

If you breastfed, when did yours come back? Is there anything that will make it more/less likely? Very aware the small age gap we wanted might not actually be possible unless I stop BF DD which I don’t want to do!

Bf for nearly 5 years. Period after 8- 10 months I believe

4 months with my first, 3 with my second. Felt massively mugged off both times.

Mine was identical to this. I also felt the same, especially second time round.

zurala · 09/11/2023 22:21

7 months and 6 months. I fed both exclusively to six months and did night feeds till about 18 months so I felt very aggrieved!

Thethingswedoforlove · 09/11/2023 22:22

6 weeks and ebf

Mummymummy89 · 09/11/2023 22:24

I think my first period was at 14 months.

I was still feeding at night, I stopped feeding at night and day at the same time, around 2.5y.

Only conceived DC2 straight after weaning (literally got my BFP the month after the last feed). But that's not necessarily causal, because it took us quite a while to conceive DC1 too.

justanotherlaura · 09/11/2023 22:24

7 months, around the same time DS started having 3 meals a day. He slept through from 8 weeks so dropping night feeds didn't start mine

Pipistrellus · 09/11/2023 22:24

15 months and still feeding through the night. Is there a reason you need such a small age gap? It would be better to give your body a chance to recover for at least a year before you get pregnant again.

TappingTed · 09/11/2023 22:24

Nearer their 2nd birthdays than their 1st....four babies.

minipie · 09/11/2023 22:28

About 8 months I think, once weaning took off in a big way.

ChristieEve · 09/11/2023 22:30

About five months post partum with a EBF baby. Peak milk production, surely?!

nonametheghost · 09/11/2023 22:30

As soon as I night weaned around 2 years. But I have twins so double the hormones.

daisydalrymple · 09/11/2023 22:31

DC1 11months.
DC2 14 months.
DC3 18 months.

Saffrom · 09/11/2023 22:31

16 months.

Londonscallingme · 09/11/2023 22:32

9 months whfn he started to sleep for longer stretches at night

elliejjtiny · 09/11/2023 22:32

6 weeks with all 5. Was still exclusively breastfeeding/pumping including during the night.

fearfuloffluff · 09/11/2023 22:33

About six weeks. Which was fun.

Pregnancy drains your body of nutrients, it takes at least a year to build stocks back up again. For your health and the health of your baby, I'd leave it longer.

Opine · 09/11/2023 22:35

5 weeks every time. A week after pp bleeding stops. Even EBF twins. You couldn’t make it up.

Crunchingleaf · 09/11/2023 22:36

Around 5 months and I was EBF each time. There is 14 months between DC2 and DC3 so it’s definitely not a form of contraception for me.

jellybe · 09/11/2023 22:55

Not until I completely stopped feeding each time. I have PCOS though so I don't know if that played a role in them not coming back earlier or not 🤷‍♀️

hban · 09/11/2023 22:59

first time- 13 months
second- 14 months
Third- 15 months

but they had a lot of milk and didn’t sleep.

Zwicky · 09/11/2023 23:01

3-5 weeks for all 4. They were all brilliant sleepers but not THAT good. With dc1 I had extensive bleeding for the first 5 months of pregnancy so only got about 5 months off. Absolutely mugged. Had an ablation now which makes up for it somewhat.

sittinginacafe · 09/11/2023 23:01

6 weeks every time. Second time I was tandem feeding as I’d continued breastfeeding all the way through pregnancy…

Babybelle23 · 09/11/2023 23:02

3 months, huge disappointment due to combination feeding I think

DramaAlpaca · 09/11/2023 23:12

Four months after all three ebf babies, which was very disappointing.

The only good thing was that I was able to get pregnant quickly again after DC1, though I didn't really expect to as it took ages to get pregnant the first time. I conceived at 7 months postpartum so have a 16 month age gap.

BreadandButters · 09/11/2023 23:15

Between 19 months and 2.5 years for all 3. And only once I reduced how much I was feeding. I did fall pregnant again with only one period in between each kid though!
