That's the problem with root canal treatment though - you don't notice if anything else goes wrong before it's too late. I had root canal treatment a few years ago (huge dental trauma the week before my wedding)and got a gold inlay (which was fine as I can't see it at all). However, fast forward a couple of years, some decay in the tooth, but I didn't notice until a hole appeared in it. Now the gold inlay needs replaced with a crown . It's particularly frustrating as there's no pain or anything, and the tiny hole has been filled. The dentist also said she didn't really want to remove the gold inlay because it was really well done.

I really really really don't want a gold crown but can't bear the thought of paying £400 for a porcelain one! Mine is second from the back and I've got quite a small mouth, but still don't want to risk it being seen.

This is the price I pay for years of dentist avoidance .

Must get back to work though...

The floor guy is great but we will definitely make sure I spend the day out of the house until he's finished. Everything (really, everything) in the house is covered in a thin film of dust and I can feel it in my chest. Usually not driving doesn't bother me but recently I've felt that life would be so much more straightforward if I drove. I can't do anything about it until I've had my eyes checked (7 years since last time ) and atm DH is too busy for me to go off for a couple of hours to get them sorted out. With the children going various activities in different directions, and ceaseless rain, it's quite hard to think of something that will keep me out of the house 9-5 (including weekends) and keep them all happy . So if anyone has any brilliant ideas, let me know...

SpiderWilliam · 04/08/2010 17:02

Not sure about the all day activities, but couldn't you get a Saturday eye appointment, is DH not available at all? You would be done in an hour. That's the only way I get appointments done. Maybe Neenz could babysit

EddieIzzardismyhero · 04/08/2010 22:02

Marking my place x

DewinDoeth · 04/08/2010 22:29

Ugh, don't talk about teeth, I have a phobia. I wonder if it has a name? I have a big phobia about gaps in teeth - can't look at people with missing teeth. Argh.

Just watched a fabulous programme on BBC2. The Normans. It was superb. Very, very well pitched.

Very little to report here - quite a shocker at the Eisteddfod today, prose medal - but I guess that won't mean much to most of you!

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 04/08/2010 22:36

dewin did you watch over the rainbow when it was on? there was a girl on it with gappy teeth. don't look!

Rolf · 05/08/2010 07:18

at scaring Dewin with pictures of people with gappy teeth. Is anyone now going to type their posts with a hand over their mouth? T has madly gappy teeth so if you ever meet her I'll put a big cowboy moustache on her

What the hell is wrong with my girls? They are sleeping so badly. I have the worst period in the world, I'm sleeping in the boys' room (our floor is being sanded). I have to stay out all day to avoid the sanding, and T is the no-sleep toddler. I'm doing that purple eyes, white lips, grey skin knackered look .

pleasechange · 05/08/2010 07:28

sympathies to you too rolf on the non-sleeping children! Especially with bad period pain at the same time. It's so hard to find ways to stay out of the house when the weather is rubbish. You must be having a lot of floors sanded!

The teeth talk has just reminded me I haven't been to the dentist for ages. I have a veneer on a front tooth I had done as a teenager. It's a porcelain one, but the grey has come through and it would really need replaced. I asked my dentist once how much it would cost to have that done and all my other teeth whitened at the same time - £800! Not likely any time soon unfortunately

Postman Pat was fun, and cheered A up for a couple of hours!

dewin well done on the prose medal (whatever that is!)

DewinDoeth · 05/08/2010 10:02

Oh, God, no, I didn't win it, allnew! It's the big literary award (think Booker prize and suchlike) for prose.

I'm ok with naturally occurring gaps, folks! Just as well - Iestyn has a cutsey gap. It's missing teeth that bother me. So do missing limbs, I always feel panicky about seeing stuff like that. So no false moustaches needed! I do wonder how I'll be when Iestyn loses his baby teeth though: wobbly teeth make me feel ill as well.

And, today my dodgy tooth is hurting. I blame you people. Who started this?

Rolf sorry about the lack of sleep - bad timing too with the work going on. Is it overtiredness?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 05/08/2010 12:35

Going started it Dewin!

Rolf, sympathies on the tiredness and evil period pain.

Neenz, sorry I meant to say earlier - hope the twins are home with their p's safe and well soon.

OP posts:
DewinDoeth · 05/08/2010 12:59

Oh, yes, hope the twins are better.

I've also been meaning to tell you all about my cousin Karen. She's having chemotherapy now but it's going well. She and her DH are hairdressers, and her DH took the machine to her hair (which had started falling out) a couple of weeks ago. But she's positive and upbeat.

Amberc · 05/08/2010 16:19

Domestic, I can't believe you grassed up Going!

Dewin I know that Prose thingamijig is on S4C at the mo as I flicked past it on my way to something less cerebral this morning!

Neenz - what the others said - Hope the little ones are getting better and congrats on your nephew Ted!

No news from me other than I have cut my hair into a jaw legth bob. I like it - but they cut off 4 inches which was a shock! Wanted something more managable.

Feeling like shite at the moment due to severe lack of sleep plus I am already the size of my pregnant self with Luke at 6 months (not exaggerating unfortunately). Backache galore. Not pleasant.

SpiderWilliam · 05/08/2010 17:18

I've got the giggles after reading all 36 comments that Neenz has received on FB re what to call the bump. How are the twins doing? Congrats on your nephew too. At least your sister didn't go and nab the name Dan. Are you feeling ok about being the last of the three of you to give birth? I imagine it must be a quite frustrating.

Amber well done on the haircut. Whenever I go significantly shorter I almost always start growing it again immediately. Sorry you are feeling large and uncomfortable. Bear in mind that even if it was a singleton you would still be bigger sooner. My belly button was sticking out at 7 weeks this time!

neenz · 05/08/2010 17:46

Amber, huge sympathies about your size. I remember it well. It will be worth it in the end .

I am not bothered about being last to give birth, my sis was 10 days ahead anyway so now it feels like she has had hers, now it's my turn! Been to see twins today, they are looking really well, out of incubators but still in scbu. They will be in there until they are strong enough to suck cos she wants to BF. She is expressing so they are getting her milk through feeding tubes but until they can feed exclusively from breast they won't let them home, which will prob be about 2wks.

Allnew, well done on the weight loss and welcome back! Sorry about the sleep .

Rolf, you can always have a trip up here to see us, that will kill a good part of the day. If you get in before the baby's born you could even leave your kids and nip down to Specsavers .

neenz · 05/08/2010 17:48

Oh and I am really into Alex now for a boy. I think we will wait to see if it is a boy and then maybe I can persuade DH . Definitely Ruth for a girl (very surprised to see it 357th in 2008 - thought it would be much more popular).

going · 05/08/2010 21:10

goddess

Having a crown mid september, hope no more bits of tooth fall out until then! Promise no more teeth talk just for you Dewin.

AMber at least the summer is nearly over so you won't be heavily pregnant when it's too hot outside. I'm sure that's not much of a consolation!

Neenz WIll keep chcking for baby news!

Poppy Hope you are okay, don't think I've seen you on here for a while.

Dewin It's good your cousin is keepig upbeat, must be very hard for her at the moment.

poppy34 · 05/08/2010 22:01

Marking my place too - going am ok but been busy/tired and bit fed up. Got huge bruise as did blood tests for miscarriage yesterday but will be months before get results so prob not going to wait for Nhs. Not been on much as tbh am not really in a new born or pregnancy state of mind (that is absolutely not meant as a dig as life goes on ) and am surrounded by 3 pregnant woman at work incl one who seems to have taken me as pregnancy authority. She doesn't know bout mc and haven't heart to tell her but I do feel bit drained by discussing it.

Glad twins getting stronger neenz.

DewinDoeth · 05/08/2010 22:09

Oh, Poppy, that must be awful. I think you're a better person than most in keeping quiet. Hope things get easier soon.

Rolf · 05/08/2010 22:31

That's really shitty for you, Poppy

going · 06/08/2010 09:07

poppy so sorry things are hard or you at the moment and you don't even have an escape at work.

neenz · 06/08/2010 09:37

I'm really sorry Poopy, sounds like a very difficult sitaution at work. I really hope you start to feel stronger soon, I remember the feeling of devastation well and am so sorry you are going through it Sad

DebInAustria · 06/08/2010 11:27

Hi everyone, back home now. Great week in the UK, ruled out the village we loved the last time and opted to be near Barnard Castle(sec school with German) and lovely villages nearby. Shattered now though, 1st night at Travelodge, 2 at mil's, 2 at friends, 1 at weird woman (rented house option, and another story)1 at friend's house but she was away and lft keys in greenhouse and post it notes everywhere telling us where everything was Smileand last night at Munich airport hotel. Boys were very good for the family and Ethan didn't seem to miss us at all. Gave me the cold shoulder when we got back though.Highlight of the week was last Sunday having lunch in a village bakery, with good coffee, sunday papers and no children - bliss!I know you all like looking at houses, fave now is this development project

so who's going to fill me in on the news, just read this last page and congrats to Allnw on the weight loss, sorry to hear about your work situation Poppy, what's happened with your sil's twins Neenz, hope period pain's better today Rolf and hope ll non sleeping or poorly toddlers get better soon.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 06/08/2010 12:06

How are things going in the new house Sybil? (or have I got it all wrong and you haven't moved yet? Blush)
