COngratulations for your sister Neenz and fab you and Rolf had an unexpected meet up!

Good luck with C25K Eddie. I've never got beyond week four. DId start up again last week so need to keep going! I've got a podcast which is really helpful as I can walk/run without timing myself - music is awful though!

Amberc · 02/08/2010 09:41

Neenz hope the twins are out of hospital soon what are theirnames?

I knew Rolf would look like someone out of hollyoaks all slim and gorgeous! I'd love to meet some of the non London contingient - one day!

I have found a program on tv that is luke's new obsession and I like it's ben and hollys little kingdom. We watchEd six episodes this morning and luke was in a trance!

He's also now obsessed with birthdays now so much so that we are going to pretend it's his birthday today after being begged! He can beg now and it's very difficult to say no to him :-)

ktpie · 02/08/2010 10:59

How sweet Amber, are you going to have cake (great excuse).

Congratulations to your sister Neenz, how weird that you and Rolf bumped into each other. I've never met anyone from here, but if anyone is around Nottingham way let me know.

Dewin/Eddie - you've made me feel guilty about not doing any exercise for ages. I did get into a routine of doing exercise DVDs but have very easily slipped out of that particular habit.

I'd like to say I've been off on holiday the past week or so, or doing something interesting / productive, but I haven't. H has had a cold and has been very clingy so I've been spending my time wiping up snot. Very glamorous.

Rolf · 02/08/2010 11:11

hahaha at how everyone wants to be my friend now I'm gorgeous .

Hope your sister and her daughters are doing well, Neenz

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 02/08/2010 12:41

I must make more of an effort instead of just trying to catch up once a week - you lot chat too much!

Goddess and Biscuits - we have 'staff development days' over the summer break - bah - I think we might have one on the day you're at ITNG. October good for me though, apart from the first weekend. The promo vid for the ITNG live looks great, I'm quite excited about it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a stairgate? We haven't bothered with one til now, but when we change B's cot bed from cot to bed I want one for the top of the stairs. I want a tall, pressure fit, not hideous, and non-trip without a bar on the bottom. So if any of you have anything like that let me know where you got it.

Neenz, are you feeling a bit stalked with Rolf at the church and Spider and old school pals?!

Biscuits, saw your post on FB about homegrown produce - sounds great. I'm amazed how much I enjoy gardening. I was late planting stuff - as the garden wasn't ready - so I'm a bit behind you, but it's just fab harvesting our own crops. I'm going to buy a greenhouse soon. And I still want chickens! Anyone else growing their own?

I have a booked a toddler-free weekend away with my chum here - three weeks to go, and can't wait.

I am having a duvet day today - B had cold, and I feel a bit sniffly and sorry for myself. Stuck to the sofa, and feeling loads better after watching last night's Sherlock Holmes (I have a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch now) and In The Loop.

Dewin and Penguin, good luck with job applications.

Impressed with all the exercisers. I've heard Davina gets good results, but I can't bear the woman. Anyone got a Wii Fit? Someone I know lost over 2 stone using theirs.

Amberc · 02/08/2010 13:09

Bugger is there such a thing as a stair gate without a bar at the bottom? Ithought that's what kept them in place. We have one without a bar but we had to screw it to the wall. It is good though. Will look it up and post link.

Ktpue yes to cake!

Amberc · 02/08/2010 13:17

It's kiddiguard safety gate on www.gltc.co.uk I can't do a link on iPhone!

EddieIzzardismyhero · 02/08/2010 14:14

Don't get the impression I'm some uber-fit exercise guru! I talk the talk but nowadays can't walk the walk with getting very puffed out .

You know Rolf gave the impression she was fat and frumpy when she's actually slim and gorgeous - well I am very fat and very frumpy and if you look carefully at my FB pics you'll see I never have one of anything below the neckline for very good reason .

Starting yet another diet today but sometimes I do lose hope of ever looking remotely like I did pre-children .

Congrats to Auntie Nina, and at the twin breech natural birth. I once saw a twin breech home birth on Hospital Heroes, ohmigod was it scary!

Right off to tidy my playroom before the toddlers descend!

Rolf · 02/08/2010 15:39

You only have Neenz's word for it and, with all due respect to Neenz, I think she was being very kind and charitable.

My poor dad's shed fell down last week . There was a loud noise and there lay the shed, in a heap. It was an effective way of clearing it out, anyway . The insurers are insisting he's not covered, the scallywags (having the children at home all week is making me modify my language!)

SpiderWilliam · 02/08/2010 15:59

Having the children at home all week would have the opposite effect on my language. Is your Dad v shaken up by it?

SpiderWilliam · 02/08/2010 16:07

Bugger - re stairgates, just got an email from Kiddiecare with their summer sale offers. Seems to be lots of stairgates discounted. We were given some Ikea gates so never shopped for them myself. Not sure they can be both pressure gates and anti trip at the same time though. Can't post a link to kiddiecare as I'm on iPhone

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 02/08/2010 18:32

Thanks Amber and Spider - I think you're right, pressure gates need the bar at the bottom to make them work. Ah well. DP doesn't need an excuse to make holes in the walls...

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 02/08/2010 21:31

Ooh, lots of chat since I last posted properly!

Bugger/biscuits - I'm going to message you on fb re meeting up in October. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of an airtight container Biscuits, they kept really well.

Am impressed by all the Davina/fitness type chat. I really really need to start getting some exercise in, so have been humming and ha-ing over doing an exercise vid for ages. I'm soooooo ridiculously unfit. Could only really do it in the living room though, and would be a bit self-conscious if DH was coming and going! That's silly isn't it? I'd quite like to get a running machine but have neither the space or the budget! We were thinking of getting a Wii at Christmas, but after unexpectedly buying the new HDTV and blu ray player we're only doing stocking fillers (allegedly) this year. Hmmm.

Are their any Corrie fans on the thread? Isn't the current John Snape one of the most ridiculous storylines ever?

I wasn't just being charitable Rolf!

SIL and the twins are doing OK, both still in scbu but one much better than other. One of them still not breathing on her own and hasn't even really been held . Apparently they don't like to discharge them separately even if one is fit to leave before the other . I would have thought it was better for the fit twin to be with Mum than stuck in scbu but there you go. They are talking about another 2 wks at least in scbu . The more I hear about the birth the scarier it gets! Apparently the MWs were bricking it with the second twin shouting 'where's the consultant!' (she turned up 30mins later ) because they lost the hb and couldn't see the baby (they had to reach in and grab her!). But it just goes to show how resilient babies are cos they are both going to be fine long-term they think. DH went to see them last night and was a bit shocked at how small and frail they look but I suppose that is to be expected or they wouldn't be in scbu.

And my sis (due last Sunday) has gone into labour today. It's her fourth and they usually come quick but she went in this morn with waters leaking, she was 5cm dilated. Hours later still 5cm! But she will probably have him today, she hates the hospital tho so she will be pissed off that things are not happening quicker.

No signs of labour here but still 10days to go till due date so trying not to think about it

going · 03/08/2010 14:16

Neenz sorry to hear one of the twins is not doing so well. I imagine if one had to be in long term they would discharge one if she was ready but as it's only for two weeks makes sense to keep them there. Probably also an infection control issue. DD1 was admitted to hosptial at 5 days old and was on the childrens ward as they didn't want a baby who had been out of the hospital in scbu even though that would have been a more appropriate place for her.
Must be exciting to have so many babies in the family in one go! Hope your turn comes very soon!

DP is comming home early today which would be ab if it wasn't because I have a broken tooth . Dentist appointment at 4 and am sure it will cost £££'s to get fixed.

abdnhiker · 03/08/2010 14:33

Very quick wave to everyone - I've five minutes before we're going over to my brother's place so the boys can play with their cousin. Fraser's really struggling with exhaustion - they were wonderful on the flight but ended up 6 hours short of sleep and Fraser doesn't seem to be able to make it up. If he naps, then he wont go to sleep at night for an hour... Oh well - still having a lovely time.

neenz congrats to your sil and little prayers for the twins till they're home. How fun that you bumped into rolf.

p.s. some children are just early wakers!!! Although DS1 is growing out of it and often sleeps until 7am (he's four) if he's tired from a busy day. I have high hopes for Fraser but actually we've realized that by the time F's that age the two of them can get themselves up, make their cereal and watch TV. Lie-ins here we come!!! (two years from now anyways).

DewinDoeth · 03/08/2010 21:00

Back from the Eisteddfod! Been very exciting on here - congratulations to Neenz's SIL! And very exciting with Neenz and Rolf!

Dead tired - Ebbw Vale is a long way away - but the book launch went well, Iestyn had a great day and met Sali Mali, Jac y Jwc and Sam Tan (that's Fireman Sam to you ) and has been singing happy birthday to them all ever since. Had a great time.

Exercise: DG I would recommend Davina: it does work. I also felt really stupid doing it when DH was around but now I don't really care - well, I can see the beginnings of abs and I don't give a toss about looking like an arse if my arse is tight! I'd recommend the box set power of 3 and 3 30 minutes: you get good variety then, and you shouldn't get bored, and you can do 30 mins, or more, or less. The Box set 2 is quite hard! Now feeling bad about not doing it this evening, but I'm tired.

DH back with chocolate, must go.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 03/08/2010 22:13

Thanks for the recommendation Dewin, I'll try and talk myself into it.

Now I realise why it is quiet-ish on here - everyone is/has been away! Doh!

Am having the dullest evening ever. Internet banking, balancing cheque books... (well, I don't actually use my cheque book ever, but you know what I mean...). However, am hopefully going to be meeting up with Bugger in October to go and see 'Room on the Broom' live (though sadly Biscuits can't make it).

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 03/08/2010 22:33

Get you with your hectic social life in Autumn goddess - ITNG live in September, then Room on the broom in October - what will November bring? (stupid on call rota...who made that up... oh hang on, it was me)

Going - I only realised after I posted on your tooth thread that it was you! Hope it's not as expensive as you fear - I've got to have a crown this year at some point and am burying my head in the sand about it. I can't bear the thought of a gold crown, even though it's right at the back of my top teeth!

OP posts:
pleasechange · 04/08/2010 12:30

Hi all - haven't posted in a while so just trying to catch up. neenz hope the twins are ok, it must be hard for your SIL them being in scbu, I remember it well and it's not nice, especially when all the other new mothers have their lo's by the bed

A had chicken pox couple of weeks ago and has now come down with something else. He hasn't slept for about 3 weeks now and I am getting very weary and down. Every night now he cries for hours when put to bed, which makes the evenings very stressful after a day at work. I have a day off today as I've booked for us to see Postman Pat - hope A actually enjoys it despite not feeling too good!

On the exercise talk, I haven't done anything for ages. I'd taken up doing aerobics at the leisure centre once a week but that stopped a couple of months ago. I have almost managed to get to my target weight though . After a very long hard slog, I have now lost 35 pounds since Christmas, courtesy of Slimming World

Will try to catch up some more

going · 04/08/2010 14:26

Well done on the weight loss allnew

Domestic My usual dentist wasn't there so I saw her husband (also a dentist!), he pulled of the loose bit of tooth and covered the rest with a filing. This he did very cheaply knowing it will cost a small fortune to get a crown. Am seeing proper dentist tommorow who will tell me the exact price - think I would rather see her husband as he has a tv screen on the ceiling!

Rolf · 04/08/2010 15:36

Well done on the weight loss allnew. And sorry you're feeling so tired. It's a real killer isn't it? My girls haven't been sleeping well for a while and today I'm totally knackered and have awful period pain. We have someone in the house sanding some floors, and I found that lying down in the room above, the vibrations actually made my tummy feel better . Bloody noisy though.

Going is the tooth painful as well as expensive? I hate tooth things. I had to have a tooth taken out a few months ago, and the dentist told me to get used to it before deciding if I wanted a replacement tooth, assuming that I'd just get used to it, but I HATE having a big gap. I feel like a toothless old hag and hate the way it feels when I eat. So Goddess I sympathise with your gold tooth concerns.

Welcome back Dewin

going · 04/08/2010 15:50

LOL at toothless old hag! Not at all painful as I had a root canal on that tooth so no nerves left. He did give me a local before pulling the bit of tooth out because I jump when he tugged at it when examining me. Only jumped as the feeling was unpleasent not from pain, injection was the worse bit! ALso can't bare the thought of having a gold tooth, it's the third from back so probably would show if I smiled. Have no idea what colour filling he put on my tooth, suspect it's silver but don't want to look!

Hope the period pain gets better, glad you found relief but would be very expensive every month!
