Thought the title might be appropriate for both mums and babies

CaptainCaveman · 04/07/2010 12:47

dizzy i hope you are now free of the selfish wee girl? And was Shrek good?

oops I hope Mr Oops' nads have recovered?

Loving the sound of your neighbours *Cytee

red hope you are feeling better?

VG get thee to a Dr, taking coffee out instead of wine? You must be ill?!

Loti how's your kidney infection?

Dh back from camping and has bought me a lovely bunch of lillies for letting him go away for the weekend! It's been bliss. O has slept through both nights til 7am in his own bed (He is usually in our bed by 1am), and I've got loads of washing and cleaning done , plus had fun with the boys.

springaporesling · 04/07/2010 12:49

Dizzy don't have any more words of wisdom that haven't already been said but do take a break if you can - otherwise you'll end up sick like Red too - hope you're feeling better today.

Loti did I miss it or when is the open evening for the course you wanted to do? Hope you're feeling better too.

Miamla I love both names and Beatrice does have a lovely meaning but can't help thinking Penelope 'sounds' better with your surname.

Still more rain here - not sure why so much it's a bit crazy at the moment.

Have to take the cat to have a minor op tomorrow as she had a fight with another cat and now has an infected wound that needs to be drained.

springaporesling · 04/07/2010 12:50

LWFH now DH must know how we feel!

TwilightSurfer · 04/07/2010 13:21

Dizzy I hear you and stand by you. I HATE over indulgence and stickyournoseinitness. Just had the same this week by a lady I am "friends" with. She took her daughter birthday shopping at a local toy store and the daughter got $80US in gifts that she picked out all by herself. THEN the mom purchased $120US for her. THEN there was $60US spent on the younger daughter because you can't leave her out. AND this was JUST the shopping trip part of the birthday week. The mom had mucho packages at home for her to unwrap plus gifts from family. AND the girl is having a bday pool party next weekend which will include gifts from attendees. At what point is THIS TOO MUCH for a 10 year old.

To me it sets up an expectation.

I won't even begin to tell you what these same kids got for Christmas but her mom and I did shop together one day. The mom bought stuff during our spree and then WENT BACK to buy MORE.

I like to indulge but in love and experiences not STUFF! I'd rather use my money to go to the beach with wonderful friends then to give the girls XBOXES where they can sit and be uninvolved in the world around them while they are entertained.

sorry >

This holiday weekend my kids have been treated to good eats, ice cream shops, 2 toy story laser guns and toy story 1 & 2. Today will be more good eats and firework view while seated on a blanket in our yard. Maybe swimming. The memories of this weekend can't be broken, or lost, or traded and although they didn't cost a lot they are PRICELESS in my book.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!

GladioliBuckets · 04/07/2010 15:11

Dizzy Entirely justified rant. Off to go check out that FB page now, hadn't noticed it.

Miamla One downside to Beatrice is if you have VVV posh friends, they pronounce it pretty much Bitches. Do you have an awful lot of VVV posh friends? (we're talking Sarah Ferguson here.)

I had a nice morning in bed reading my book with Kurt pottering about bringing me stones, sorting my bedside drawers and doing the hat joke (sticks something random on his head.) Have invented spiced coffee and dulce de leche ice cream - will let you know the results later tonight...
Weather is strange and magical here, pre-stormy perhaps, I fancy dragging the kids down to the park but DS1 relucant to put clothes on and DD will just be hungry/tired/need the loo. Will give it one more go...

MrsMiamla · 04/07/2010 15:15

nope, not a posh friend in sight they're all as common as muck like me, iniit!

dizzydixies · 04/07/2010 16:20

thunder. lightning and rain that bounces up off the pavement at you - got to love a Scottish summer!!

Shrek 3 was great but bloody hell, when did it cost £27 to take 2 adults and 1 child to the cinema - thankfully I had taken juice and popcorn for her!

Miamla - am now near a 'puter

dizzydixies · 04/07/2010 16:22

Singapore - poor cat hope all well with the op. Do they do feline Arnica?!

TS - my cousin used to watch MTV my Sweet 16 and she and I used to sit with our jaws on the ground!! We're not quite at that stage here but still

Buckets - let me know what you think!

hotterpotter · 04/07/2010 17:02

Hello all I'm back from a fantastic if exhausting few days on the breezy North Yorkshire coast DC shattered after walking/paddling/digging/running/playgrounding all weekend, staying up until 9.30/10pm () and still waking at 6ish... I have already had a nap since we got home and DH is having one now

Have tried to catch up but there is too much, only been gone just over 3 days

dizzydixies · 04/07/2010 18:53

Ladies, can I please bring your attention to the brilliant bunting that Miamla has made me tis on my FB page - oh and hers obviously too excited!!

oopsandbabycoconuts · 04/07/2010 19:53

Dizzy - It is AWESOME!

dizzydixies · 04/07/2010 20:08

you sounded just like TS there Oops!! Isn't it just though - am currently taking down all the curtains in the house so I can decide where it looks best. Between that and my canvas I'm the best dressed wannabe Cakey-Baker in Scotland

cyteen · 04/07/2010 20:12

dizzy I love My Sweet 16, it's a guilty pleasure and good exercise for the jaw muscles. I got into it while hanging out with my bro when he was sick; he would sleep a lot so I used to watch mindless cable tv, and that show was the perfect vacuous distraction.

Your little sweet-sevener sounds like she's missing something more important in her own life, if she needs to big her stuff up to her friends all the time.

MrsM well done on the sleeping, especially in this heat. I'm afraid I can only offer you a re. your two names, as neither has ever featured on my personal list soz.

oops hope mr oops now has two same-sized plums once more When you say you're not allowed any more babies, btw, what do you mean? Is it for health reasons, space, just preference or something else? Terribly nosy I know, please feel free to ignore this question - I'm just always interested in how people decide on the completeness of their families.

We are a family of tired, weary people today after a day that included a trip to children's A&E for possible comfrey poisoning (all apparently fine), two hours of labour in the allotment for me/two hours of manic toddler wrangling for DP, and then a two year old's birthday party to round things off. DS only slept for half an hour all day. He was boggle-eyed with tiredness when we got home.

oopsandbabycoconuts · 04/07/2010 20:12

That was my intention - am so pleased you likes it - now you are all set for your stall

oopsandbabycoconuts · 04/07/2010 20:17

Cyteen - it is purely for selfish reasons for the girls, we will have 2 lots of school fees, dance, tennis, french, cake to pay for and with 2 we can give them every opportunity we never had a kids, also if I plan to stay at home then 2 it has to be. BUT I refuse to permanently discount another child sometime in the future.

cyteen · 04/07/2010 20:18

I see Thanks for replying. I am such a nosy cow

OP posts:
MrsMiamla · 04/07/2010 20:34

cyteeen i have no idea what comfrey is but I'm relieved to hear that all is well. And as for our name choices, no need to , I haven't managed to sell either of them very well to DH yet

dizz....its for your stall not your house!!!!
Oh and I have a confession... I lurrrrve your accent

welcome home hots

dizzydixies · 04/07/2010 20:43

accent? I don't have an accent love - you do!!

oopsandbabycoconuts · 04/07/2010 20:48

Dizzy - I want to know if your DDs have accents? I know I was surprised that TS's DD1 had an accent ( stupid I know but it takes you by surprise when you forget the small person might have one)

MrsMiamla · 04/07/2010 20:55

I'm a bit of a sucker for an accent (as i'm sure vg will agree)

CrispyTheCrisp · 04/07/2010 20:56

Evening

Back from a wonderful weekend in Dorset, involving picking up my new car on Fri, going to MIL's for lunch to drop off her car then train over to Dorset to meet DH and camp in friends field. BBQ on Fri, full fry up, beach, off road driving, lobster BBQ and Spitfire air show on Sat and horse riding visit, castle and pub for lunch today

DD1 has a new best friend and went to bed at 10.45pm last night . Luckily both girls slept until 8 this morning, although i was woken about 2am by some Vuvezelas

Hurrah for Pea's descent, MrOops plums recovery, AllotmentBoy's poisoning swerve and Cheryl Cole

LOTI - I personally would just go with using the CM for the number of hours you need a week. They aren't even 2 and 'socialising' with the same age, really not important IMVHO. DD1 will play with children of all ages as she has been exposed to babies to 15YO after schoolers/holiday children and just loves people of any age

Dizz {{{{Hugs}}}}. I know you are keeping busy as a blocker, but please, please feel free to offload here

Re cool crowds. Nope i was not there either and did a bit of reinvent at Uni. However, even there I lived in a place with 3 houses and there was a 'cool' house and ours. I got on with them fine, but preferred the company in our lovely homely house of 7! Which was then condemned unfit for human habitation after we left

Miamla - faberooni banner

TS - Happy Independence Day

Hots, glad to hear you had a good time. We abandoned the bedroom partition this time and DH slept with DD2 on the double blow up and I slept with DD1. Worked really well

Cece - loving beard cover ups. DD2's new favourite lines are 'i don't know' and 'don't like it'. Such a positive little thing

CrispyTheCrisp · 04/07/2010 20:57

Shurrup dizz, you have a fantastic accent, and brilliant little Scottish quips & sayings

oopsandbabycoconuts · 04/07/2010 20:58

Miamla - I luuuurve VG's accent and her DS1 hasa wonderful soft lilt too.

CrispyTheCrisp · 04/07/2010 21:00

Oh yes, VG is lilting too

CaptainCaveman · 04/07/2010 21:10

Ah yes crispy but only when she's pissed
