Having a problem with my right breast - nipple pain which has suddenly started

got GP's appt tomorrow

hope eveyrone is doing ok

Ruby is 8 weeks tomorrow

littlepea72 · 01/12/2009 14:09

Ruby i had to go to see the HV today, she says it isnt a lactose Intol, Doc also told me yesterday that she still had thrush in her mouth, HV says she doesnt! What do you believe? Two people saying 2 different things. Faith is really snuffly and can hardly breath at night which is very scarey, if i had to put money on it, i would say that is why she is so poorly & being sick. I got saline nasal drops, so i hope that will help her. As for her feeds, i will continue with her normal milk, what else can i do. They are going to send her to hospital to get her checked for the lactose, but that could be ages away. She is 8 wks tomorrow & already 14lb

littlepea72 · 01/12/2009 14:10

Ruby....forgot to say, hope everything goes well at doctors tomorrow x

devilsadvocaat · 01/12/2009 14:45

hi everyone

ht - great news on the success of baby whisperer, haven't tried it but may if things get bad!

hc - sorry about the car seat thing. i bet your heart stopped.

charlie woke once between 10.30 and 7.20 which was fab. bfing going fine now thrush seems to have cleared up. he has got another cold but i guess 'tis the season and all that. he is getting very 'chatty' now, much to the amusement of ds1.

lilpea - hope you get it all sorted soon. can you ask to get another opinion? another gp or hv?

i can't believe it's december! all those of you who are first timers must be so excited i remember ds1's first xmas, i bought him loads of stuff . i'm looking forward to our 1st xmas together as a whole family

devilsadvocaat · 01/12/2009 14:46

oh and welcome igglybuff!

littlepea72 · 01/12/2009 15:00

Devils...hooray on your nights sleep!

rubyslippers · 01/12/2009 15:08

littlepea

take her to A & E if she is having problems breathing

my DS ended up in hospital as an acute admission because of his reflux which wasn't really picked up on - would hate for the same thing to happen to you

it is soooo frustrating when no-one can agree what is the problem

Igglybuff · 01/12/2009 15:12

Hi devils, thank you.

I'm so looking forward to Xmas. Anyone know where we can get a cheesy outfit for DS? I already spoil him as it is, buying ridiculous numbers of clothes...

William had his 8 week jabs today. I was terrified. The doctor was really good - she whipped through everything and did the jabs so fast. After the first one went in, I thought he didn't notice then the look of horror! Then tears... But he calmed down so quickly thank goodness.

He's also putting on weight well - 14lb 7oz on his two month birthday!

princessmel · 01/12/2009 15:55

Iggy my friend got ds2 a really lovely santa suit babygro from Marks and Spencer. When dd was tiny I got her one in Matalan.

Igglybuff · 01/12/2009 16:07

princess thanks will check out m&s and matalan. DH will not be amused!

princessmel · 01/12/2009 17:38

Oh and Mothercare too...

HumphreysCorner · 01/12/2009 20:57

Hi all

Have been busy putting decos up so seem to have got behind with the thread.

Matthew had his 8 week jabs today and is not too happy. Have given him Calpol even though the Dr said only give if temp 37 and above. He is awake most of the night with congestion despite me laying his head of a handkerchief soaked in Karvol drops so I have to lay his head on my pillow to prop him up. Think he does actually have a cold now. He passed the 8 week check with flying colours.

Just want to welcome Iggly and say congrats. Matthew was born on Oct 1st so he is 2 months today and weighs 11 lb 14 oz. Ignore the comments about obesity-rubbish!

littlepea and ruby-hope things are better for you both soon and that you get some answers.

Hello to everyone else, sorry for lack of personal replies. Can see a night of holding M may be in order. DD2 had her pre school jabs today so she is in pain too.

Love to all.

Hi HC, happy two month birthday to Matthew - born the same day as William! He too had his jabs today. He is a bit grizzly but not given him calpol yet. I hope Matthew gets better. My midwife said that a lot of babies get congested at this time of year because of the central heating - I know my nose is a bit dodgy as we have it on loads now it's cold. Alas wet towels on the radiator haven't worked!

princess, I checked out mothercare and m&s - I decided I couldn't put William in an elf/Santa/reindeer suit (DH would disown me!) but saw some nice romper suits so will get one for my nct gathering in a couple of weeks!

smallone · 02/12/2009 08:42

Morning, George has his 8wks jabs today, where did the time go? I remember giving dd calpol with hers so will take some with me, but he seems so little! Had him weighed yesterday 10lb5oz. Bigger than dd was but still a tiddler, and I'd put money on him being a porker in about 6months time!

CalypsoFramboise · 02/12/2009 09:21

littlepea hope that you get a sound diagnosis soon... You're bottle feeding? If you are, at least you won't have to cut all dairy from your diet. Poor Faith

devils you're making good inroads into a full night's sleep! Lucky you

outfits saw an adorable reindeer outfit in Mothercare, but balked at £14 price tag! Will look at M&S (no matalan near me), but I went to Sainsbury's to get Annalise's pumpkin outfit for halloween (which she is now able to fit into so had lots of use (at home!) from it!)

HC hope yu had an ok night, 2 DCs unwell with jabs must be super hard X

AARRGGHH

Finally made another appointment with Dr and bf counsellor today, really need to get to the bottom of why one breast is so so painful to feed from, whilst the other is fine. Thrush was discounted at Annalise's 6wk check, but I can't believe its all down to latch. Really need help as I'm ending up in tears towards the end of the feed on that side.
Also do babies have growth spurts at 9wks? Annalise has gone from having 60ml (2oz) at her expressed bottle feed that DH does, to 110ml last night and STILL wanted more! She cluster-fed from 3am to 7:30am {sigh} had an extra hour sleep but have to dash to the BF drop-in.

Last night DH went out on the lash, and about midnight a policeman rang on the doorbell and my heart stopped thinking DH had been run over or attacked. Luckily DH was actually still missing in action in Soho somewhere, but my neighbour had been attacked inside his hallway and had his coat stolen. Wtf, had horrible dreams and feel really sorry for nice nieghbour, he moved out yesterday and was doing a final check of the house.

Igglybuff · 02/12/2009 09:29

Hi calypso - I think babies have a "developmental" spurt/leap at approx 7-9 weeks and they can get more fussy/hungry etc around that time. I've got a book which explains each of these stages - basically baby needs more comfort and food as their brains go into overdrive. I can't remember what the 7-9 week one is for but I did notice that DS started to stare at his hands and suck his fingers as he could move his arms more deliberately!

Igglybuff · 02/12/2009 09:44

calypso I've just slide sleeping DS off me and found the book (wonder weeks by H Vanderijt). Week 8 is the "world of patterns" so baby has more body control, discovers hands feet etc, makes noises eg "chatting to toys" - there's a few more.
I recommend the book - I read it when DS was particularly fussy the last week or so to help remind me that it shall pass... (until the next week that is!)

rubyslippers · 02/12/2009 10:19

morning all

calypso - i think they do have a growth spurt. Ruby fed from 3.30 pm until gone 11 pm last night and she is 8 weeks today

i sobbed over her head most of the evening ... not enjoying the breast feeding TBH and if she took a bottle i would be a lot happier. Getting desperate for sleep

Iggly - very interesting about the development. Ruby has found her hands and is sucking them a lot and she is very active ... her arms and legs are never still

HC - sorry to hear M is snuffly. I highly recommend those Karvol plug ins - seem to really help

smallone - sounds like george is doing well

have been to the GP as i was having nipple pain yesterday. Haven't got mastitis or anything nasty but right side is more engorged (ruby favours it more than the left) she must have chomped it in one of her cluster feeding sessions

felixis · 02/12/2009 11:03

Hello everyone
I'm new to Mumsnet and have a 5 and a half week old son called Felix.
Have found the last five weeks the toughest ever and have really found reading your posts so helpful. Makes me realise I'm not the only one out there having difficulties!
Have moved to Shropshire from London so not many friends up here apart from our NCT group who are mostly yet to deliver.
Felix is great and I'm loving getting to know him. We're struggling a little with sleep though as he'll only fall asleep on me or DH and never fall asleep in his basket. Much as I love the cuddles, it gets tiring having him attached to me permanently!
Am interested in the Baby Whisperer approach - may have to try it. Conflicting opinions from everyone though - some say enjoy the cuddles and that he's too young to develop "bad habits" and other people telling us to tackle it now or pay the price!
Anyway, hoping you're all well.

Igglybuff · 02/12/2009 11:16

Ruby it will get better - we've had two nights of relative calm after a few nights of hell. I cried and cried and cried some more. I also had nipple pain but it's calming down. DH too was crying as it was too much for us.

Yes William is so active - I think he's going to kick his legs off as he gets so excited! This is even when changing his nappy (not good if it needs doing after an explosive poo at midnight )

Hi felixis welcome to mumsnet. I've only been on mn a few weeks and it's great! Felix sounds exactly like William. He's currently sleeping on me now... I have been brave (that's how it feels) and put him in his cot for morning naps (after he's fallen asleep on me). At nights we share a bed - again can only put him down after he's fallen asleep on me/DH. We're going to try and tackle this at our next free weekend - when DH is at home. I've only managed to get William to sleep once in the cot whilst he was drowsy. Took 15 mins and I really had to hold my nerve!!
I do think he's so young that I should make the most of cuddles and enjoy William as he is before trying to move him to his cot... I did put him in one night but he felt too far - although the cot is at arms length!!

littlepea72 · 02/12/2009 11:59

Ruby i hope you are ok, you need to do what you feel is best with the feeding. If you want to do bottles then dont let anyone make you feel bad for doing so, the choice is yours to make. But please before anyone attacks me im not telling you not to BF, just do what you need to do.

Felixis welcome! its always better to have someone to talk with, the girls are great here.

Calypso at police call! Poor neighbour, you think you are safe in your own home, scary.

twinklegreen · 02/12/2009 13:52

Hello everyone

smallone hope the jabs go ok today. (George is now 1 oz lighter than my ds was at birth !)

hc hope matthew is a bit better today there's nothing worse than a poorly newborn.

calypso hope you manage to get to the root of what's causing the problems on one side. Also they tend to have mini growth spurts all the time, every week Amelie seems to have one day where she feeds and feeds and feeds, then she's back to normal again the next day.

iggly that book sounds really interesting, you'll have to keep us informed about what's happening every week

felixis welcome, congratulations on the birth of your little boy. My advice for you (as a mother of three) is not to listen to what anyone else tells you, just do what feels right for you. That's what I always do anyway, listen to everyones opinions then do it my way (maybe that's just me being rebellious )My three seem to have survived this far.

ruby sorry that things have been so hard for you and you're not enjoying the feeding. I think you have done brilliantly to have persevered so long. Do what is best for you.

Well Amelie is 9 weeks old today and is doing really well, can't believe how quickly it has gone She's reached the stage where she wants to be involved in everything going on around here, I have had her sitting in a bumbo at mums and tots this morning, she looked very cute sitting there watching everyone!

Also she's sleeping through now, last night she slept for 12hrs solid! 7.30pm-7.30am, my boobs were about ready to explode this morning

((((twinkle whispers this quickly then runs for cover!!!))))
