HMM Ok not feeling too bad not about HM Glad you liked the status updat and rachie too, I thought DDs face was a picture

Come back from course and my head is banging, too much info....ahhhhh!

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 13:53

Right.....Off to hospital to see the consultant. For some bizarre reason I'm nervous! I'm never nervous, not even for exams! Wish me luck......!

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 16:16

Alright then don't!

I am back and I am .

The cyst is so big they can't possibly do keyhole surgery and even worse, they are going to have to do a vertical incision. I'll have to be in hospital for 5 days on a ward where babies are not allowed. Then it will be an 8 week recovery time during which I will not be able to pick M up. What am I going to do?!!! I won't see my baby for 5 days then I won't be able to cuddle her when I do. I am going to have to express in hospital or give up bfing and I don't want to. God I'm miserable.

Juwesm · 18/06/2009 16:26

Quick hijack for MM

That is absolutely rubbish news. I would suggest getting very stroppy and speaking to PALS. You could demand that you are allowed to stay post-op on Kent or Pearl. It hardly fits with Baby Friendly Initiative etc that they are effectively forcing you to stop bf-ing. Kick up a stink. It's the only way. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think PALS is the way to go. Not sure about the 8 weeks post-op though. You could do some feeds lying down? Will DH be at home to help?

Juwesm · 18/06/2009 16:28

Or you could demand to have the procedure at another hospital where they can accommodate having M on the ward with you. You should be able to choose where you have the procedure under Choose and Book, so perhaps could go to GSTH or similar, if they have better facilities.

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 16:29

Thank you Juw. I'll stop blubbing and feeling sorry for myself now & instead kick some bottom! Yes, DH is on the phone to personnel now......

Juwesm · 18/06/2009 16:33

Raaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!

Juwesm · 18/06/2009 16:46

830000 extension 5004!

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 16:51

Thank you Juw!

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 16:54

No answer I'll try again tomorrow. Thank you again.

Juwesm · 18/06/2009 17:01

Goshdarnit - I'd complain about there being no answer .

there is an e-mail address. [email protected], I believe.

jenwa · 18/06/2009 17:28

oh MM I am sorry to hear that, thats not at all good. When do they want to do it? I hope you can get it sored where M can be with you. Is there any reason why it has been delayed so long anyway? Can you actually complain about that and state that if something had been done sooner you would not be in the situation now where you are BF and your DD need her mummy and you need to be with her!

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 17:42

I have been provisionally been booked in for the 17th July (don't worry Myjob, it will be ok! ) but it hasn't really been that much of a delay. It was only a month in the end and that was my fault for requesting the same doctor I had last time. He's very good so very busy. His registrar saw me and fobbed me off a bit when I said that it was huge. Then she examined my stomach. She was amazed at the size of the bloody thing. I had the cancer screening bloody test again. They're leaving my ovary in place unless there is a need to remove it. I am going to speak to PALS like Juw recommended and see if I can stay somewhere with M. The only thing is, I am going to be drugged up to the eyeballs, so probably wouldn't be able to feed her anyway.

Myjob - I am going to investigate, but I think it will be ok. Unless you're planning on making me run a marathon.

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 20:04

Myjob - I think it won't be ok now. I started a thread and everyone says no, you'll want to stay in bed. Bloody typical! We can't cancel as we have friends going with us and they've booked the leave.

jenwa · 18/06/2009 20:12

oh mm how awful. Where are you going on holiday? ANd how long is it after the op?

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 20:36

Jenwa - We are going to Dorset and two weeks after the op. It's going to happen is it? Whahhhhhh!!!!

My main concern is that M is very clingy with me when she's tired and she is not going to understand that mummy can't cuddle her or pick her up. I feel so guilty for letting her down and for ruining the family holiday (which I know is stupid).

Anyway, I want to stop feeling sorry for myself....

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2009 20:36

Oh bloody hell MM. That just isn't on. Off to check out your thread.

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 20:41

I'll link it CSWS.....Here it is.

jenwa · 18/06/2009 20:45

oh mm I do feel sorry for you. Can you not BF after then? Can you try BF lying down so that you will be able to do this after the op? Also may be an idea to start exressing now so you have some ready as even if M is able to come to hosp with you (which I really hope she can) you may feel poorly or on high meds so it may be an idea to express some ready? I feel so sorry for you as it is not at all nice for you to go through this.

jenwa · 18/06/2009 20:52

MM sorry just saw your thread and you have frozen ebm so thats good and it seems they have given you good advice and you should be on meds that will allow you to BF if you tell them.
Its a shame about the holiday but you need to look after yourself Maybe see how you feel closer to the time.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2009 20:52

It was easy to find from your profile MM .
It sounds really quite hideous .

Have you any further thoughts about the bf side of things? You may want to talk about the meds with one of the bf helplines if your intention is to carry on. Am sure you know who to call already, but numbers are all on rhs of here as a reminder.

I have a good stock of milk in the freezer which is good until late August. I will stock up on more though. I will work out a way to bf as I really don't want to give up. I've had some good advice on my thread which I am going to heed. Thank you ladies, I do love you all.
