evening all ladies. i've not been around for a few weeks.
lots happening here atm.
my grandfather passed away last friday he would have been 97 on fathers day. he had a lovely send off. there were about 250 at the funeral. he lives in northern ireland so alex and i flew over on sunday and back home on tuesday.
despite it all it was lovely to see all the family and we had a lovely get together on monday after the funeral and stayed up very late chatting and catching up.

alex had his 32 week check up last week as well. i'm not impressed, he has dropped from the 91st centile to the 9th, but is still about the 100th for his length. the hv has insisted that i take him to clinic and think about topping him up. i have to go back in 3 weeks for a review. however he was in hospital a couple of weeks ago and didn't eat for 4 days.
i'm refusing to give him formula, so i can't see the point of taking him because i will do nothing different than i am now. but then i worry what will happen if i don't. it's all a bit silly, he is happy and healthy.

sorry i've not caught up with all your chat so i hope all is well with everyone.

seriously the boy never stops eating, i swear he has hollow legs!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2009 21:13

Was very sorry to read on fb about your grandad heather, but glad that he had a good send off.

When you say that you 'have' to go back in 3 weeks, you really don't. They can't make you do anything, and as you say, it won't change the way that you are feeding him, so I'd be inclined to nod when given instruction, and then ignore and carry on as before.

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather heather. How lovely to have such a good number of people attend to send him off. Nice for you to know how well loved he was. I remember Alex was ill, it was an ear infection wasn't it? How is he now? He must still be growing if he is still very long, he'll catch up with his weight, as Pistachio says.

Pistachio - I think I'll need to have a proper look at that site when I'm less tired! Thank you though.

heather1980 · 18/06/2009 21:15

yes he had an ear infection and a viral infection as well.
he's fine now, he has a cold atm but i think it's his teeth

RachieW · 18/06/2009 21:28

CSWS and MM- thanks for the reassurance about food. I used to offer fruit for breakfast and don't know why I've stopped. Duh! Think I got caught up in the wonders of him eating porridge from a spoon. CSWS when did dd start eating? All J has really eaten today is some organix carrot sticks, basically crisps (bad mother), he fed his sandwich to a pigeon- we ate in the park- little monster.

MM- So sorry to hear that you can't have keyhole and that it's going to be a long recovery period. Agree with Juwesm- fight, what would they say if M was a newborn and you needed this op? It should make no difference that she is 8 months she is still a baby and you are her mother and she is reliant on you for food. Can feel my blood boiling on your behalf!

Heather- So sorry about your Grandad. Agree with CSWS about clinic. Have decided to take CSWS's advice and am now only going to go monthly as I'm fed up with weaning questions and being told to try a spoon. They are useless. Today they told me that they were too short staffed to run 8 month checks and to contact them if I had concerns. When I pointed out that was a first time Mum and wasn't sure what to look for developmentally they just said "call us if you are concerned". Honestly it was like computer says no.

If it helps to reassure you my mum was telling me last week I was always a skinny baby but ate loads and was happy and healthy. The HV was always on her case so she'd take me to the GP who apparently was lovely and would reassure her that babies gain weight at different rates, apparently he just said "look at her you can see she's healthy". to HV. It sounds like Alex is doing great and just getting over his illness.

Sorry am being very been one of those days. Off to kick a wall or something...

What pre-view? Why haven't I been invited? I have given them loads of my money over the past year or so! I have ordered loads from the Next preview. If they've left me out, big mistake on their part!

She started eating when I started refusing to feed her 9 times a day, and cut her back to just 2 or 3 feeds, which was just before she turned one (we later increased them again - boob junkie).
She only started eating sandwiches at maybe 2 and a half though - just wasn't remotely interested in them before, and even now doesn't do them that keenly.

I'm purposely not looking, as dd trashes all her clothes, and they are too expensive to ruin.

MM when was/is the Next sale preview? I haven't been invited and am a directory customer

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 22:24

Rachie - The preview finishes next Sunday. I was sent a paperback version of the clothes A/W directory. On my account page I had a section titled Preview and there was an option to do a quick order. If you have that, you should have got the directory. I won't tell you that they were also giving 15% off........

Marthasmama · 18/06/2009 22:26

Oh no oh no oh no!!!! I shouldn't have looked, I think I've spent about £300 in my head already!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2009 22:33

I've just looked at Boden. Not inclined to buy anything. Dd refuses to wear trousers, and only wants skirts that are 'twirly twirly', so she'd love the party skirt, but not much else. Life was easier before she took an interest in what she wore!

There are some lovely baby girl things. The bloomers are gorgeous as are the dungarees! Oh and I need a snow suit as we are going to Kalamazoo for New Year and it will be very snowy and cold.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2009 04:01

buggery bollocks. Have had to do full change on ds as was soaked through again, and now have no idea how to get him back to sleep. No one else still needs night time nappy changes do they?

1.5 hrs and now it's fucking daylight!

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 19/06/2009 07:19

CSWS - Probably a stupid question, have you tried other nappies? M hasn't needed a night change for ages. She is still waking twice a night for feeds though. When D wakes up, is he all happy and playing or grumpy and tired? M sometimes wakes up wanting to play and we tend to just put her in our bed for a while then she gets tired again, I give her some more milk, then pop her in her cot. She usually has a little play, then settles herself and goes to sleep covered in teddies.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2009 08:40

After his last session of wetting through I switched to ones that were recommended on here (by KSal?) - the blue superdry huggies. They were then fine for a while. Then he wet through a couple of times so we moved up a size (to 4+) which helped, but still isn't enough it seems. He doesn't seem to wet much during the day, but stores it all up for night time .

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 19/06/2009 09:23

So, do I get these or wait until they have some sort of offer but they've all sold out?

CSWS - I use those ones at night but have no problems with them. M won't sleep in a real nappy, I think there a bit too bulky for her. Clearly D is just being a typical man and making life difficult for the main woman in his life.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2009 09:31

That's an empty shopping bag you've linked to mm, so yes, you should get it .
