para gg really gets 'no' now. he was a terror in the garden lik eyou said a few months ago, but i just spent about 2 days really showing him what he cou;d and cou;dn't do and he hasn't uprooted anything since. keep trying, i think this is the stage where they do check with you - they really get that they are speperate people (we've got serious seperation anxiety again here!) and they look for guidance way more now i think

FfreckleFface · 21/06/2009 10:43

Oh, Merryberry...that is a very early start, especially for a Sunday morning. You've inspired me with your pie though-Ff is particularly fond on anything that involves mince and mash, so it's cottage pie for us today.

Have lots of work and looming deadlines, so Ff is still roaming the living room in her pjs while I procrastinatecrack on with proofing. Is anyone else starting to panic about alternative uses for ride-on toys? Ff stands on hers and uses it almost like a skateboard, and pushes it up to furniture she wants to climb. Unlike GG, she ignores 'No'. She clearly understands it, but seems to think that she is cute enough to flash me a winning smile and continue with whatever she is doing.

Stairs-does anyone have any tips for teaching them to decend safely? Ff gets up with no problems, but when I try to encourage her to go down backwards she either climbs back to the top or tries to go down head first...

merryberry · 21/06/2009 12:39

Ff i get mine to learn by bumping down on their bums. i discouraged ds1 from ever trying to step down them. gg is learning. slowly. off to bed for nap now. full of cottage pie and full on knackered after that early start

Dontpanic · 21/06/2009 22:48

eek, am reading this all, just getting too sidetracked to sit down & reply!
Sorry for those having a hard time with the sleeplessnessnessness...as well as the other probs in life. Ff, glad bloke got some time off, won't be long now for the next one.

I'm quite happy with mine at the moment, minor sleep issue resolved by tooth coming through (No.8 - how many 1st teeth in total?)Loving some of the words trying to be formed. We have lots of tank-oos, he copied the first few words of chumbawumba yesterday ( I get kno...and stopped).
Toddling still around 3-8 steps, since crawling much more efficient. He's copying the dog too, this morning he decided to carry his teddy around by biting on the nose and carrying in his mouth. Very sweet

Stairs, well, his auntie taught him how to come down feet first as soon as he'd learnt to climb up, so he's very proficient (even surfs it down now to his delight). Anyone on FB can see this entertainment in my videos
Apologies to anyone not on there, but it's the handiest place to keep backup copies of everything!

Games - silly daddy facemaking is easiest for me. Plus, we put him in baby jail & he'll play by himself for an hour or so...music table thing from Tesco works wonders, as do his books, he'll sit and coo his way through them for ages.
Have got to go away and leave him again next week which will be hard, but at least i'm away in the UK rather than germany, so I can get webcam & phone updates more easily. Plus have a lie in.

turtle23 · 22/06/2009 06:01

Hey...are we meeting up on Wednesdsay?

OP posts:
littleducks · 22/06/2009 07:18

pls let me know if it does go ahead as am not on fb

FFF- stairs wise we go down 'feet first', i taught him to go down slides first at soft play then park backward on his tummy then religously chanted 'feet first' and put him in sliding position at the top of the stairs and somehow it clicked

oh and ds fully understands no, but responds with the same cheeky grin

my dh has been to Germany, three times in the past two weeks for work, short trips of two day or so but that involve driving/ferrys all night so require a days sleep after so it hasnt been much fun here

my children have recovered from the horrible bug they had but seem to have developed a terrible grumpiness, prob from loss of routine ds is not settling himself in the cot well, which im blaming on hios bottom front teeth appearing

turtle23 · 22/06/2009 09:05

As I can't see there has been a decision made about venue for Wednesday...anybody fancy "The Garden" at the Science Museum? That way there is as little or much as you want to do and we could eat sandwiches there without being told to leave.

OP posts:
JFly · 22/06/2009 12:32

Brilliant! Yes, let's still do Wednesday. Science Museum sounds fab. Turtle could you link to a map or something so everyone knows where we're going? I will post my mobile on FB and for those of you not on FB please tell me if you need a contact number.

I've been a bit AWOL as I went off to the States for a last-minute visit. It was lots of fun but I don't recommend flying long haul on your own! G was very good really, but it it hard.

Anyway, back and a bit jet lagged but nice to be home and see Daddy. G won't let DH put him down for a minute - it is too cute.

littleducks · 22/06/2009 13:59

ooh science museun, sounds good, may have to bring dd........but she went last year and loved it so should disapear to play!

turtle23 · 22/06/2009 14:00

Thanks, J...just to clarify...The Garden is part of the museum, rather than a garden
11 and bring your lunches!

OP posts:
turtle23 · 22/06/2009 14:01

how to get there

OP posts:
Dontpanic · 22/06/2009 19:28

v envious now that I can't meet on weds, have never done the science museum! Have a fab time & post photos!

Littleducks, are you opposed to facebook or just never got round to it? Tis great for seeing everyone's photos which would just overload this site!

turtle23 · 23/06/2009 06:04

So who is coming tomorrow?

OP posts:
merryberry · 23/06/2009 07:46

not me, am at rheum consultant for the morning, xfx

littleducks · 23/06/2009 07:53

I'll come may have to bring 3yr dd with me, unless i can get dh to have her in the morning till she goes preschool

Lets hope other babies can teach ds to walk, he isnt bothered at all but has spent this morning homing his climbing skills, he is scarily good at climbing and i am watching him tear around the room, i seriously expect him to be swinging from the light fixtures in a moment

DP- i like the anon features of mn, i dont think fb allow you to use usernames etc. i dont really want my rl name on internet (and prob couldnt cope with the popularity contest of the friends links) i do accept i may not be able to hold out forever

turtle23 · 23/06/2009 07:55

LD- I have a F profile in my real name AND in a pretend name.

OP posts:
turtle23 · 23/06/2009 07:55

FB, that should say

OP posts:
merryberry · 23/06/2009 08:06

yes, i used to have a 'merry berry' profile until i got used to it and swapped to rl name. as long as you choose something not obviously 'fake name' or 'diddy duckie' you can get away with it

JFly · 23/06/2009 10:55

Me, I'm coming!

turtle23 · 23/06/2009 11:14

I am too, I should say. Ewe- are you coming? Fancy taking the train together so that P+T can terrorise entertain the other passengers?

OP posts:
Ewe · 23/06/2009 11:49

Yep, I am coming. Catching same train sounds good, I was thinking train to Victoria and then bus to Kensington as the district line has about a million steps. Good for you?

merryberry, hope appointment is ok, could you pop down after or would that be a bit much chaos for one morning?

sausagetits, are you coming?

Which other Londoners do we need to round up!

Ewe · 23/06/2009 11:55

There is a train from my station at 9:47 that gets to your station (it is the one without the beeches, yes?) at 10 and would get us to Victoria at 10.29 - that sound ok?

turtle23 · 23/06/2009 12:11

Will get myself to the non-Beeches station for that train.
I think it's MNFM and FfFf who are coming. I'm sure that there are others who could make it though...come on lurkers...show yourselves!

OP posts:
merryberry · 23/06/2009 14:14

chaos!

Ewe · 23/06/2009 15:35

So thus far it is as follows,

Me
turtle
JFly
littleducks
MNFM
FfFf

Correct?

I am meeting a friend with 7month old afterwards, depending on what she is doing timing wise I might drag her along unless anyone objects?
