oh HQ the poor boy. boys are brill, Ff, but you should see the skin on my two - covered in more bruises and scrapes nw than there's clear skin.

i'm glad things are camler at nursery today ewe.

don't have to see doc again...just waiting for the company that delivers the drug to my house gets round to arranging it, along with the nurse to teach me how to inject myself. it's outsourced, but clearly this bit of the private sector has the same summer holiday cultuer as the NHS

JFly · 25/08/2009 13:27

So, ahem, stand down everyone. [Told you so emoticon]

Think period is on its way, so appears to just be very very late. Suppose it could be stress, although I can't think of anything specifically stressful in my life at the moment. Just my body messing with my head! I do want another, but also want to do this trek, so would be bad timing. Think we'll start trying spring of next year.

Sorry to hear about broken bones, HQ. That must be so scary and sad for you. Hopefully it's a comfort that they heal so quickly when young and he won't remember it either! And I guess at least it's not a leg again!

Ewe, I would think it's normal to have an adjustment period at nursery when coming off holiday. Hopefully it won't take long to get her back into that routine. Maybe she does need moving up, but only you can tell if it's the right time. Maybe you could try it but have option of moving back if it doesn't work?

Other thing to remember is that these guys have no impulse control. In fact, they don't have much even up to age 4-5 and beyond (according to Dr Google). Frustration=screaming/hitting/biting in our house. I figure all you can do at this stage is try and introduce action/consequence but not expect them to "get it" every time. Be consistent, blah-di-blah. Eventually, it will probably start to sink in and they will at least start to learn that it's not OK to hit/bite/etc. Might not stop them every time, but hey ho, we can always call Supernanny.

BTW, when do you start to be able to reason with them?

turtle23 · 25/08/2009 14:16

HQ- You poor things. That is really rubbish. Sending you a big hug. xx

FF-Looking forward to Thursday too...hope I find it ok!

Jfly- Hope the elusive P shows up soon.

Merry-You are very patient. If it were me I'd be bellowing down the phone at anyone who'd listen. Bet they take the money from you on time...don't they?

Ewe-Shame you wouldn't be interested in doulaing. I desperately need another doula round here so that when I go back to work there is someone to share the work with! Btw..when are you off into town?

OP posts:
turtle23 · 25/08/2009 14:18

Oh...Jfly...reason with them? Is there a period in a boy's/man's life where that is really possible?

OP posts:
turtle23 · 25/08/2009 18:22

I feel so sick. Went to in-law's for run around garden. Put P in car and drove 5 minutes home. When we got home he had apparently stepped in fox poo and had taken off shoe, rubbed it all over himself, and EATEN it. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW.

OP posts:
Ewe · 25/08/2009 19:08

I am unfortunately a bit too sqeaumish for doula-ing I think! Heading in tomorrow lunchtime after my root canal treatment... providing I can still speak. As delightful as P is, that is a DISGUSTING mental image I now have [bleurghhh] how traumatising for you!

She has had two afternoons in the bigger room now and is apparently really enjoying it, we're going to spend some time there with her either side of the weekend to see first hand how she is getting on so fingers crossed. You are of course totally right about the behavioural age, it's entirely possible she would be doing the same at home with me.

Seriously looking into the student route though. Still want to try and address my work/life balance problem!

JFly · 25/08/2009 20:26

More fun and games in our future.

I took G to the Babylab at Birkbeck yesterday. They are doing a control study for comparison to Downs Syndrome and Williams Sydrome babies. V interesting to see how they gauge developmental age. And v v difficult to keep myself from "coaching" him to do each task! I made excuses for him: "we haven't really done body parts yet!" Rushed home to get out the flash cards.

turtle23 · 25/08/2009 20:30

Jfly- Thanks. Thanks a lot. Really needed to read that.

OP posts:
merryberry · 25/08/2009 20:53

that sonds like more fun than ds1's study - he just watched dots moving on screen.he was expert at that, we'd practiced watching telly ;)

turtle, ew, i wouldn't even know it was foxes poo. you have my sympathies.

jfly and anyone else in fear of the big sleep/tantrums disruption to come, try my patented machiavellian thing i did with ds1 (hope it works with ds2, can't afford to lose anymore sleep!). basically involves switching it all round so that they are in charge of putting themselves to bed. getting them to think they have realised its bedtime 'oooh, what shall we do now? i'm so sleepy i think i'll just sit here/ stay downstairs, why are you pointing to the bedroom dear?' accompanied by endless 'oh well done's about everything. 'what's mummy forgotten? teeth? oh well done' 'what do you want to do now? book? great idea, let me pop your bag on'

and on and on and on and on

JFly · 25/08/2009 21:09

Turtle, you're welcome! I'm all about the research, you know.

Ooh, I like it Merry. It reminds me of the old "do you want to brush your teeth or put your jammies on" trick. Pretend they are in control by giving them a "choice". So that works at this stage, then? Excellent.

Dontpanic · 25/08/2009 22:10

eek, loads to catch up on, where did all this scandal and gossip suddenly spring from!

Jfly, keep your legs crossed for another few months please, and have you sent you app. in as they emailed to say spaces running out?!!

Turtle, nope, no brooding instinct in the slightest, love the age E is at now, can't be arsed going through the whole pre-toddler phase again. And of course, y'know, we'd need to find the energy for the whole sex thing ;) As for the shoes, love the ballet pump things too, but I'm a flat shoe person, useless in heels!

LD, how are you and the croup sufferers?

FF, am only free Sunday this weekend if that's any use to you, can do anytime...oh, or Monday since it's bank hol. Lost your number when my phone software upgraded, txt me if you still have mine..or are they still on the fb group? E loves his crocs, he loves sticking his finger in the holes and carrying them round with him rather than actually wearing them

Brilliant ideas on the fundraising ladies, love the slave auction thing, but can't see the MD being up for that! He has promised a donation though, and our underused social committee will organise a few fundraisers over the next few months, some of the shop floor are doing a race for life type thing too and will need sponsoring too.

CM, hope you're enjoying Cornwall, sounds fab, would love to go back there again but money going on different priorities now!

HQ on the broken limbs, I sympathise..think we need to buy E a crash helmet as he keeps falling backwards and bashing his head on the laminate floorboards...I also nearly took his eye out and narrowly avoided, but gouged a chunk from the side of his nose with my nail.
Good news on the house front though, getting an end to the chain is a big step in itself!

HAve no idea if he's a leftie or not, since we're too chicken to let him feed himself yet. He makes the occasional lunge for a spoon, but is quite content to be spoonfed.

Ewe, glad nursery better, think it's just a frustration thing, we tend to be on the end of it here (usually when we shut a door so he can't toddle in exploration where he wants all the time). I have lots of bruises in strange places where I've been kicked during a tantrum, and had quite a few slaps (I like to think of those as his Norn Iron bloodline showing through ;) )

MB here's to a swift drug delivery, how are you about the injecting business or is it a minor irritation compared to being pain-free?

Right, off to read that thread...

turtle23 · 26/08/2009 06:56

BTW...ended up with these but think I may have to rethink. Feet needing much love at the moment. Ewe, I may need to take you up on Ewell offer next week!

merryberry · 26/08/2009 07:06

oh it works Jlfy it works! even now. its perfecting the wise and warm smile once they've chosen, don't let them rumble its fake until they're about ooh 8.

littleducks · 26/08/2009 07:48

Croup has been cured, and somehopw in all the nursing i got better too (but i feel like a holiday big time)

DH has been an nit of a pratt and managed to get his driving licence confiscated he was charged with driving with no insurance although the car was insured but police cpouldnt check as it was only special constables in the car and they dont use ANPR computer systems anyway my foolish but overworked dh booked time off work for the court date, which was then cancelled last minute as police officer was on leave so didnt turn up for rescheduled date as had to be in work, court refused to postpone for some as yet unknown reason didnt accept insurance cert and have taken away his licence

And as it all legal and complicated you cant just complain he needs a new court date and we dont have a clue how long we will wait

So now both I and the children are getiing up at 6 am to drop him at work, which is just brilliant as they are going to now wake at 6 instead of 7-7.30 on weekends, and by the time i have driven him to work, back home and have picked him up i have no day left and he would work somewhere no feasable on public transport

Thanks for all the kind words on the thread, had more to say to you each but have to stop ds beating his big sister

turtle23 · 26/08/2009 08:17

Oh littleducks... big big hugs. xx

OP posts:
merryberry · 26/08/2009 09:45

oh what a buggery situation LD. i am glad you're better, but this sounds gruelling

JFly · 26/08/2009 14:52

LD that is terrible! What a nightmare for you all (but mostly for you). Really hope it gets sorted soon, but I can only imagine how long it takes to get a court date, etc. Grr.

DP haven't put app in yet but am going to before I leave for States this weekend. Hope I make it in!!

Speaking of, off to States on Sunday for two weeks. Bit of a whirlwind tour of west coast but am really looking forward to it. We're going to San Francisco/Bay area this time so should see a bit of sunshine, and probably our fair share of fog. But never mind the weather, am just happy to go to a cool city. Staying in a few hotels so hope G doesn't get too disrupted. Although am counting on him not sleeping terribly well. Better to be pleasantly surprised instead.

Turtle, hope I haven't missed doula uk competition thingy! only just remembered so am going off to look at link again.

FfreckleFface · 26/08/2009 16:48

JFly, why, why would you post that link?

evie2000 · 26/08/2009 19:52

hello all I have tried to skim read but so much goes on so forgive me for fleeting visit - just saying HI and all that! Sorry HQ about broken bones - that is so rotten and I really really feel for you.
And to everyone else who is having a hard time I'm sending a smiley face!
I'm now almost 39 weeks - can hardly believe it and feel quite surreal about the whole thing. My ds was 16 days late so a part of me feels this one will be late too but equally have many more 'twinges' and cramp and all that this time so maybe not. Trying to hang on till after 1st september but after that - anytime is just fine!
Sending love to you all.

Dontpanic · 26/08/2009 23:34

ooh Evie, keeping everything crossed for you! Breathe & relax and it'll just pop out!

LD, easy thing to happen re not having it with you, nightmare that he can't get time off work though - what would they have done if he'd had to go into hospital or something, make him take his laptop? Hope he can cover the weekend early shifts until things resolve.
If it's any help, E loves a lie in at weekends, we find it most amusing - he'll wake up and cry for 1/2 min then go back to sleep for ages, it's weird!
Of course, he's now having teething wake ups during the night after 2 whole days teething free. And the vomit & runs this morning was not good to smell or clear up.
Jfly, have a great time, we loved SFO, so much more relaxing than other US cities!

Oh, and don't forget to sponsor me here in case you'd all lost the link

turtle23 · 27/08/2009 21:18

ilovegreenbeans · 28/08/2009 13:23

Hi!!

Saw one gorgeous little baby jumping around at the scan today!

And they've moved my dates forward from the 11th to the 7th. Like it'll make any difference, right? But, it looks like my ovulation "miscalculation" was spot on- 3ish days earlier than it should have been!

Evie- good luck. Can't wait to hear your news.

have a lovely weekend everyone. x

merryberry · 28/08/2009 17:37
