OK, I'll start. My name is Jammy and I want to be healthy. I need to lose a lot of weight. But I'm not going to focus on that. I am going to focus on being healthy, and looking after myself. I joined the gym today, so that's a good start, right?

Right, I found that when I didn't exercise properly for a couple of days I started eating really badly . Now I know I can't (~and maybe shouldn't) do hard exercise every day, so what can I do to get my head round this? I can't go off having peanut butter sandwich and chocolate binges every time I can't follow my usual exercise plan for some reason.

keepingitRia · 04/03/2009 10:00

can you go for a brisk walk during your lunch break/after jamlet has gone to bed if you know you won't make the gym? or get a DVD with really short sections on it so you can fit one in the time youhave?

(Practice what you preach Ria!!!)

Things are going really badly here. DHs situation is stressful and DS2 is ill, so I can't concentrate on "me"

I am doing frantic energetic housework and floor scrubbing though

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/03/2009 14:00

But the reason I missed the gym and swim is that DH was away so nobody to look after jamlet. (No creche at weekends.) So I couldn't even have gone for a walk after her bedtime as I'd have been leaving her in the house on her own. I have a pilates DVD but I'd already done that twice that week, but maybe I should get another, totally differnt exercise DVD as well, so that when I want to exercise but have had enough of pilates, or want something more energetic, I have something in reserve?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/03/2009 14:49

Right, this should be coming tomorrow

keepingitRia · 04/03/2009 16:09

sorry jammy, didn't think

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/03/2009 16:53

Don't worry Ria. Your DVD suggestion got me thinking and I've acted on it so that's good

I also have a problem in that I've walked so far in the past that I don't feel like I've done real exercise unless I walk for an hour or more.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/03/2009 11:05

Well been to the gym and had my program "upped". More weights on everything. Did 3 circuits of the new order and was totally (that's a red out of puff face, not an embarrassed one) at the end. But the killer bit was the walk to and fom the gym. It seems that I hurt my foot climbing onto the kitchen worktop earlier, and walking is agony

keepingitRia · 08/03/2009 21:09

I was going on the treadmill tonight and I can't get the belt thing to move. Hope the kids haven't broken it. Wish DH was ion then I could go out for a walk/jog. It is really windy and rainy - I think that would be great

I am back in the game tomorrow. Shopped and menu planned til Wednesday.

I CAN do it.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 09/03/2009 13:03

Arse about your treadmill Ria. Hope it's not permanently broken?
How are you fairing with being healthy today then? I've been a lazy arse and not gone for a walk in my lunch break but will get my 20 mins walk to nursery tonight and also going to give blood this evening which will give me another short walk, so I will try to make them brisk. But doubt I will feel like doing any pilates or anything later after giving blood

keepingitRia · 09/03/2009 13:07

food going excellent so far, though I would love to go back to bed for a snuggle with baggins (I should not stay up until the eary hours reading)
If nothing else I am going out for a walk tonight when the kids in bed, I'm sure DH is in all night.

keepingitRia · 09/03/2009 21:19

Have been out for a run

and I did the whole of week 1 run1

I know that isn't much, but to me that is a massive achievement and I actually felt like crying

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 09/03/2009 21:37

Go Ria, Go Ria!!!!!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/03/2009 11:44

Well with Ria off-line at the moment, does that leave me as the only one on here, talking to myself? Ah well, it won't be the first time!

Did not want to get out of bed this morning, but I did and went off to the gym and it was fab once I was there Well as fab as the gym gets I did three hard circuits, and a load of abs exercises at the end too. Felt really good. And then walked into town and back - pushing the buggy + sleeping Jamlet + all the shopping on the way back - uphill!

Sputnik · 04/04/2009 17:46

No, you are no longer alone Jammy.
I hereby pledge:

  1. I am off on tuesday and am packing my walking boots, I am going to trudge up a load of welsh hills and DH can look after the DCs while I do it as a payback for jollying off to warm countries all the time and leaving me single handed.
  2. I am going to use the week I'm away to break my snacking habit, and promise not to eat too much stilton.

Then I'll be set up for when I get back and the serious ass kicking will begin!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/04/2009 18:02

Cheers Sputnik for breathing new life into this thread!

Well I was too cowardly to face the scales, and I had reheated curry from last night's take away for lunch but then I went to the gym this afternoon. And had an hour chasing Jamlet round the park. And had a reasinably good tea, so feeling back on course after the holiday

LackaDAISYcal · 04/04/2009 18:13

Hellooooo

I pledge to:

  1. stop eating a 200g bag od sport's mix every night
  2. stealing the DC's chocolate
  3. swim at least once a week
  4. use my Davina DVD that has still been in the cellophane since I bought it a year ago.
  5. use the Wii fit.

As a starting point....my weight this morning was 11st 10.

Sputnik · 04/04/2009 21:10

Like Daisy (or Foxy?) said on the other thread Jammy, I'd wait to weigh yourself for a week or so, concentrate on getting back on track.

I have been good with food today, but I have sooo much gluttony to compensate for!

DH back tomorrow so will see if I can get some exercise in.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 05/04/2009 07:25

Sorry guys, I totally ignored your very sound advice this morning and got the scales out . Good news is that I'm only 1kg up

Sputnik · 05/04/2009 18:06

So not that bad then.
I managed an hour's exercise today, including 50 flights of stairs, so not too bad. I was starving afterwards but ignored it!
We are off out for a pizza tonight though to celebrate the return of DH.

I actually really enjoyed the exercise, I always forget how much it actually feels good. It helped of course that I was outside and it was a lovely spring morning, and when I looked up I saw the swallows freshly arrived from Africa!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 05/04/2009 19:12

Well my shoulder was hurting so much this morning (has been grumbling at me for a month now but just starting to get worse ) so I missed my swim in order to give it a rest. But I did walk my 10000 steps today - a walk down to Sainsburys and back with Jamlet and the pushchair, and then a trip to the park this afternoon.

Sputnik · 05/04/2009 21:33

I have something up with my shoulder too, well my back around the shoulder blade, I think there's a trapped nerve. So stuck to lower body stuff.

Sputnik · 06/04/2009 14:52

Well I managed over an hour of exercise today, and quite a bit of walking about this morning on various errands.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 06/04/2009 20:13

I walked the trip from work to nursery in super fast time. And did my Davina workout when Jamlet was in bed. It was exhausting!

Riallytoofattoflounce · 06/04/2009 22:58

I did 4.5 miles on the moors again, the last 10 mins up a really steep bank. Then another more gentle mile at the NT place we went to on the way home. Food not good though, and having wine.

I am going to try and get out for a walk round the village every day of the holidays with the boys. Even if just 20mins.

And I will try not to overeat
