Here's a brand new thread for the early party poppers!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hkz · 21/01/2009 20:58

Well...I've made it to the promised land... now what do I do? I've completely forgotton!
The midwives pretty much legged it out the door as they'd stayed over thier shift to deliver ds and I was too spaced out to take in anything much!
Finding breastfeeding a bit of a challenge...hard to get a latch, but once he does it's ok...I guess its only been 12 hours and have not slept for god knows how long....
Can't believe we have a little boy...with no name! Ramble...ramble...ramble...

fourlittlefeet · 21/01/2009 21:46

Good luck, hope all well! to be fair Hugo only licked the nipple and did an occasional latch during the first 36 hours, so don't be too hard on yourself! Didn't get proper sucking until well into day 2, then some horrid brown vom everywhere, some huge black poos, then milk came in proper and we are off.... it'll come, you'll see!

Spink · 21/01/2009 22:33

just popping in to say evening! and that I've FINALLY posted my birth story on the other thread. If you want to read it, get a cup of tea in first, it is a bit long! So good to get it down though, phew.

have a good night's sleep, y'all x

tinkhashertinklet · 22/01/2009 11:53

hi ladies

all doing well here bracken is such a guzzler nothing like dd who hardly had an appetite form ilk didnt drink anything.
bracken is feeding 3 hourly 1-2 ozs and then sleeps the rest of the time is such a placid baby. i am just bottle feeding. breasts are engorged today ouch!!
had 2nd degree tearing not too sore alot less than after dd1
she weighed 8lbs7ozs which is on the 75th centile, her length is 55cms which is on 99th centile and head circumference is 36cm which is 90th centile.
dd only weighed 6lbs12ozs

Spink · 22/01/2009 12:21

tink, she's a great size! and how lovely that she's feeding so well. Wish my boobs had a little gauge on them to tell me how much Rosie is drinking at each feed..
just had the health visitor over and Rosie is growing well, lots of bright yellow poos so I guess she must be getting enough! Boobs are still a bit sore but better - YAY. Anyone tried the biological nurturing approach (letting baby find its own way to the breast) - the bfing counsellor I saw on Tues takes this approach and .. I'm not sure...

LenniEd · 22/01/2009 13:29

Spink - I tried the biological nurturing approach in Sainsbury's car park yesterday (didn't know it had a name ) as had to wedge DS down my jumper as had no vest on and an old man sat in can next to me staring at what was going on no room for me to direct under jumper so had to let DS get on with it he did alright to be fair... but not something I'll be letting him do very often, bit ouchy at the start!

Hello Tink and hkz - nice to have you here

LenniEd · 22/01/2009 13:30

old man sat in car - I really do need a new brain.

heron22 · 22/01/2009 16:08

hi all, feeling quite emotional today keep missing DS1 (who is at school) and feel guilty that he now has to share me with DS2.

also DS2 (who is now 9 days old) fed a lot more often than the previous nights. so i am knackered today and feeling a bit down. not sure why? prob cos i am tired. but now that he is asleep, i should be sleeping!

i am prob not making any sense! can anyone relate to me?

also DH has gone to pick up DS1 from school and was going to take him swimming. i said yes but in my heart i was thinking, no, come back home, cos the house is too quiet without you two and i miss you two. blah, blah, blah. too much emotion as i said before.

i have this fear that i will never see them again. is it all hormones talking here?

hkz · 22/01/2009 19:40

heron- if its any consolation, dp took dd off to playgroup this morning and they didn't come back for about 3 hours... I was getting really tearful, worried something had happened and feeling all lonely in the house with the new baby... It turned out they'd gone for lunch with one of dd's friends....hormones and exhaustion!

hkz · 22/01/2009 19:40

Just stuck a bit of an epic birth story on the other thread....

qumps · 22/01/2009 19:41

heron i relate completely. feel guilty when someone else looking after ds1 and then when he is home all day want to ebay him by 3pm. also can't seem to switch off to sleep when i have the chance. too much to do and also nice to have some time to myself. you are only 9 days in and hormones still all over the place. things WILL get better and we will all survive (repeat as needed).
dh home today resulted in us rowing this morning as he did everything wrong when i left him in charge but we recovered enough to have a nice lunch out together.
lennied baby brain here too as i didn't even question man in can.
hope tree doing ok.

qumps · 22/01/2009 19:41

sorry spink great story too.

LenniEd · 22/01/2009 19:53

Posted on other thread but loved the birth stories hkz and Spink - nice to see so many of us have nice births.

Same here heron - am very sobby over lots of things.

Got to get DD to bed now. It never ends does it!

moosemama · 22/01/2009 20:16

Hi,

Sorry, not read all of thread, just posted on the other thread to explain my absence. Am very anaemic and feeling truly awful. Haven't been able to hold my head up let alone get on the computer.

Elizabeth is doing great and is a real sweetie all day, only to develop screaming colic in the middle of the night - every night! So lack of sleep on top of the anaemia is not exactly a winning combination. Have given in and started her on Infacol last night and she was much more settled by the second feed with it. Am hoping for a quieter night tonight.

In general she is going 3hrs in the morning 2 and a half in the afternoon/evening and 3hrs at night so not to bad to cope with.

DH took the boys swimming last night and I sat and cried when they left. Flippin 'ormones!

Maybe I had a sixth sense though because, someone reversed into our car at the health club as he was leaving to come home and with the value of the car plus the excess we are looking at a right off and possibly a couple of hundred pounds back if we're lucky.

It was a slow crunch rather than an impact, but because the car is a coupe it will have to have the whole of the passenger side replaced.

Apparently it was a woman in a people carrier rammed with kids and despite DH hitting the horn again and again she just kept coming and there was nowhere for him to go - good job I wasn't there as she hit the side that Elizabeth's car seat base is fixed and I think I would have lost it with her big time. She just got out and said "oh, I thought you'd already gone!"

So now the 'very small' inheritance cheque I received from my Dad's estate yesterday morning (cue more tears) will have to pay for a new car, despite the fact its not really enough and we can't decide which type to go for out of the ones that will fit three car seats. Why is it that every time I have some money of my own we have a disaster that needs to be paid for?!

Ignore me by the way - like I said flippin hormones!

qumps · 22/01/2009 21:11

oh moose poor you. what a horrid thing to happen. glad the family all ok though. anameia sounds horrid. take your pills you naughty thing!
looking forward to tree and ray joining us soon by the sounds of it.
right off to bed!

tinkhashertinklet · 23/01/2009 09:19

hope u r better today mm

MsSparkle · 23/01/2009 10:04

Morning all,

Moose for you. I hope you get better soon.

Tink Congrats!

I have a little worry. Babe was born last Thursday, my blood loss was brown until Wednesday and it's getting more red. It looks like a period now. Not sure if it is my period starting up again or if i should be worried. Midwife not coming till Sunday.

hkz · 23/01/2009 10:26

Moose, hope you're feeling better. Sorry about your car, what a pain in the arse.

Ms S- Think that is normal, I had baby on Weds and my blood is red.... don't think periods will kick in for 4-6 weeks. Ring the mw and check if you are worried...I think its ok as long as there are no large clots...

I need some bf advice....my nipples are sooooo painful..they are really sore. I am sure the latch is ok... is this just normal for the first few days of bf? My milk hasn't come in yet. I have a red sore on one nipple...should I use anything on it? cream or shield?

fourlittlefeet · 23/01/2009 11:04

Hi all, oh the joys.

day 6 here and left the house yesterday. cue panic attacks and general under water feelings! I feel as if people have slipped drugs in my tea, am so up and down and weird!!! normal though, just trying to accept it

lochia (blood loss) also tails off, then comes back red. also normal. and just started getting the clots. had forgotten about them!

off to read hkz birth story

fourlittlefeet · 23/01/2009 11:07

hkz - just saw your magus posts - I love fowles! name drop.... actually met him and was invited to tea at his house - never made it before he died, sadly. read it!!!

fourlittlefeet · 23/01/2009 11:11

lovely birth story... thats what I would like for number three - minus the tear, lol.

fourlittlefeet · 23/01/2009 13:56

hkz - use some lansinoh and put it on before and after feeds.

heron22 · 23/01/2009 15:32

hi thanks qumps for your words. i know that things will get better! last night, baby demanded to be fed every couple of hours! i am so tired!

heron22 · 23/01/2009 16:14

is it true that when baby goes through a growth spurt, they wake up more often to feed?

when does the growth spurt happen?

hkz · 23/01/2009 16:30

oh, its all a bit ouch ouch here today. My milk is coming in...got books like footballs... stitches are a little sore too, but getting better...and small crack on nipple.

I found breast feeding so difficult last time that I am really geared up to persevere...but will definitely have to moan about it a lot...so get ready for some long...dull..moany repetitve posts!

Finally decided on a name, Jude Peter...

Took him out into the world today for the first time for a trip to boots! He didn't seem to notice..didn't like it much out there in the real world, think I'll stick to the sofa and bedroom for a few more days.

I want some sleep! BF pretty much continuously from 1am to 5am and am exhausted.
