Beller not sure that your doc is right tbh if he drinks all that he is clearly hungry imo, fair enough if he only had an ounce or so. I would worry if you stopped that he would be unsettles on and off all of the early hours then.
Have you got swim nappy ? Not been with Martha yet but got a kushti swim nappy at weekend for when we go to the caravan as hoping to take her there.

beller · 02/04/2008 16:05

Lilyloo - thats exactly what i thought! He has started draining 8 oz over last day or so, so he is def a hungry baby..i think i would be up for the second part of the night and he would just be unhappy and hungry? I am getting him weighed on friday and seeing HV, so will see what she says...dosnt really bother me getting up to feed him in night, as its only once and he just goes straight back to bed and gets himself to sleep, everyones a winner
I have bought a swimming nappy from Mothercare and also ordered some huggies little swimmers to see what they are like. Looking forward to taking him, the sites that i have looked at say the diving reflex is there until about 12-18 months...so can take them under water with you...think i will be scared to do it, but might give it a go?

LuckySalem · 02/04/2008 16:15

I had Aaliyah in the bath with me and she slipped under the water and wouldn't breathe again until I put her on her stomach. I couldn't understand why and it's scared me to do it again. However, I can't wait to take her swimming!

DP's got another day off this week (3 instead of 2) so we're thinking of taking her this week.

As for the 2nd one, I love being a mum and so long as my body recovers (C-section so may take abit longer) then i'm ready for the 2nd one. We haven't decided how many to have yet, all I know is I don't want an odd number.

mixedmama · 02/04/2008 16:26

That is fantastic Lucky... sounds like something you really want. I am pleased we have had our two close together altho it is incredibky hard at times.

DH is adamant that 2 is enough but I feel compelled to have a 3rd as i will feel like we may have had a little girl altho wouldnt go for it unless we were both happy to have a DS3 aswell. Wont do it until DS1 at least is 5 if not DS2 is 5.

Amani · 02/04/2008 16:40

can't believe u want a 3rd - keep telling DH that if I evey get broody then to remind me how hard it is in the first few months....

Lucky - how scary

mixedmama · 02/04/2008 17:16

not sure if it will ever happen to be honest but just think i might always wonder... but like i said leaving it aty least 3 years if not 5 and in both cases sami will be school and ediz will be at nursery at the very least so it will sort of be like hving one most of the day.

how are you hun?

madmouse · 02/04/2008 19:32

Lucky! I thought I was quick not bothering with the pill as I am planning to TTC when Nathan is nine months old...Can't believe also that despite the start we had and the worries we still have I am quite ready for a second. In fact I was adamant about a second when Nathan was still in Intensive Care. Seeing my consultant tomorrow to discuss what caused Nathan's problems, whether it was anything during labour that can be prevented next time( we know it was not at the end of labour as his apgars were 9 10 10 and if he had oxygen shortage at the end he would have been floppy. I think I may know what happened. About a week before labour started Nathan had an episode where he would not stop moving, then I had a B_H and after that he was eerily silent for a while before kicking DH as usual. Will discuss it tomorrow. In a weird way I would like it to be something like that, as it means it would likely be a freak one off incident and not something that will be repeated next time. Guess I will be qualified high risk though. Well, was not planning any more home births.

Still no sex here. DH tried to initiate it but I could not get my head around it. He was very sweet and understanding, but I hope it happens soon.

gingeme · 02/04/2008 20:10

Good evening ladies.
Beller no don't stop his night feeds yet if he is still drinking the whole bottle. If he was only taking one or two then yeah by all means.
Katy1 my boys are with us for 10 days. Gonna be busy busy. We don't see dh's boys as one lives in Cambridge and the other is busy working and saving for his wedding in August
Lilyloo my ds4 sits in a bath seat although hes getting too big for it now. So I put ds5 in between them. I don't keep him in for long though.
Only 5 are mine mixedmamma. Dh's boys are men now so to speak. Ones 20 and the others 18. Theyre lovely lads. Never used to get on with his youngest though as he used to pick on my eldest but theyve all grown up now.
Good luck with the swimming beller. Ive never realy took any of mine till there about 6 months old. Never seen the point tbh.
Well off for a bath now. My back hurts today. Think its lugging a 14lb baby about
Goodnight all xx

betterhalf · 02/04/2008 20:11

Stupid question alert.....when, if at all, do baby's eye colour change?

Also,Toby had his first lot of immunisations today and has slept loads since having them. Is this normal? When he does wake up he's crying, feeds like mad for about 15 minutes then goes right back to sleep.

Regarding having more children... much as I love Toby I'm not having any more, and having the contraceptive implant put in my arm next week. I can relax then

AngeChica · 02/04/2008 20:42

Alek had his first jabs today as well - been quite off colour since then, a really unhappy-sounding crying, but Calpol and cool bath and he has gone to bed OK fingers crossed.

I'm gonna give my body a good year at least to recover from the c section. Also would prefer DS not to be too dependent when I come to have no2 as I will have to have another section.

DH (rather shockingly) not averse to no 2 - I brought up the subject and he said he would hope to use up one of the girls' names we had thought of!

Alek is now 13 lb 11 at 9 wks. But has fallen below 90th centile for first time.

Amani · 03/04/2008 11:05

Morning ladies,

How are all you ladies today. Me getting this awful ache on my back behind my rib cage today.......

Mixedmama - am fine, been having a few bad days, but was much better yesterday.

Betterhalf - let us kow how you get on with the implant and whether there are any side effects.

gingeme · 03/04/2008 12:51

Morning ladies.
Got my period today Still stleast I'm not getting migranes now.
Think Ive solved the wind problem. Georges not mine . I have upped his teets to the three hole ones. He burps like, well like his Dad . Seems much more comfortable now and doesn't spend ages to drink a bottle.
Going to the airport in an hour.My boys flight comes in at 3.50. Taking ds3 with me. He loves trains, get a train ffrom London to Luton, and hell be able to see the planes when we get there too.
Oh I was watching George in his cot this morning. I have bought him a new mobile and I turned it on for him. He was stomping his feet and chatting away. If he was upright and could walk he would have given my other ds's a run for there money Oh got that to look forward to.
Got a letter from ds3's school today too. Hes goign to their reception in September. I just love little 4 year olds in a fresh new uniform on their first day at 'big school'. How quickly it all changes when they start secondary school though

nicky6 · 03/04/2008 15:06

Me started my period this week too - hate it - almost worth being pregnant again.

Went to first nursery rhyme and sing a long sesion this week - slightly bizarre but quite good fun and put Charlie's name down for nursery for next year - felt mean.

Me got swollen glands and feeling very coldy and tired - really makes a difference to looking after charlie. and i only have her what if there were more!!!

Weather nice it feels like spring may be here hooray .

beller · 03/04/2008 21:54

betterhalf, George was like that after his jabs, so perfectly normal i think!

Nicky6 - i went to look at 2 nurserys today, and wouldnt leave him in either! The babies looked miserable and there didnt seem to be any interaction with them at all..and this was during a known visit There is another one locally that i like the look of, but hours arnt good for me unless i can find someone to take him, other than that it would have to be a childminder. I dont want to go back to city at all though, so better get of my bum and sort my nursery out!

madmouse · 04/04/2008 12:27

Hello!

Feeling so human today. Nathan is starting to sleep in the evening and he went 10-2-5.30-9! I did the same apart from briefly waking for his meds (he did not!) and then waking at 8.30 so I could have a shower and sort out some laundry before he woke. Bliss. As a result of all that sleeping he is really chirpy and playful today, have to see how I get him to nap now .

He is rapidly becoming more outward focused, wanting to sit on my lap looking out rather than against my shoulder. We have just done the online shop together, Nathan seemed to find the moving pictures great fun to look at.

Saw my consultant yesterday about what happened to Nathan. He does not rule out that I have certain risk factors and that they may be compounded by labour. He would be 'tempted not to let me labour next time' or at least no induction and no protracted labour. So I will be under consultant care from the beginning and probably have a date set for an elective to avoid going post-dates too! Bit of a shock.

Nathan has not been immunised yet. His consultant has to give the go ahead and we are not seeing her until 21 April, so he will be 4 weeks behind, but hey-ho

How is everyone sleeping?

lilyloo · 04/04/2008 12:58

Beller hope the swimming goes well today. I would def stick with night feed, do what you think best as you know him. Hope you get nursery sorted it's such a tough decsion.

Lucky that would really scare me too. Don't know whether i would dare to try it in the pool for fear of something like that.
LOL at you not having an odd number sounds like you might be on the larger families thread then I went to visit my friend last night who has just had ds no.5!

mixedm i love having 3 but ds is 6 today and dd is 3 so have a bit of time on my own with lo when they at nursery and school.

madm glad you got some answers off the consultant to put your mind at rest if nothing else. Glad you positive about a second though. Don't think any of us on Jan thread got a h/b anyway did we ? At least you will know what to expect and will be ready for it. Anything i am sure would be better than what you went through after Nathan birth am sure.

Betterhalf not sure about the eye thing but was told the best thing they can do after jabs is sleep so looks like you lucky there!

Gingeme i tried her sat on ds knee and she loved it was in for 15 min and so did dc's too, thanks for tip! Hope you not too stressed out with housefull Glad you got your af! Hope the boys arrive safely and agree with the mobiles Martha loves hers and it's the only thing that calms her at tea time when she get's over tired.

Ange hope Alek feeling better today i think it's quite normal for weight gain to slow down as they get older.

Nicky hope you feel better soon. I love the baby classes still doing baby massage must have been about 30 mums and babies there yesterday
Amani sorry to hear you not well hope you get it sorted, i have back ache on and off but think it down to leaning over to feed dd instead of sitting properly.

Well had bad nights sleep here. Martha woke at 3 and was up for coupl of hours so am very tired as went out last night to friends so didn't get to bed until 12!
I am sure it's when she has a bottle she struggles much more with wind. I have Avent what others might be worth a try ? or it might be enough to put me off going out again
It ds 6th birthday today so have friends coming for tea then football party on Sunday so will be busy weekend here! Hope you all have good ones!
Anyone anything nice planned ?

Fragolina · 04/04/2008 13:03

Hi all, v quick post. Sleep has been v disrupted the last couple of nights, and not all due to lo either; I had SO many nightmares last night that I lost count! As a result, am a bit out of it today. Just had a quick question for susiemj, and anyone else who may have bought the baby weaver nursing chair off kiddicare. Mine arrived this morning, and I've put it together - looks fab, BUT there aren't any instructions on how to change it to the different positions, and how to lock the rocker. Help!

Heading out for a coffee this afternoon to meet my SIL, and am a bit apprehensive. This is the first time I'm seeing her since she lost her baby, and really don't want to say or do the wrong thing, but want to let her know I really feel for her. Wish me luck!

madmouse · 04/04/2008 13:23

Lilloo, they have been mentioned before, but Tommee Tippe Closer to nature bottles I find really good.

LuckySalem · 04/04/2008 13:32

Hi all,

Having a crappy few nights lately. Aaliyah keeps waking up and won't go back to sleep. Last night she went to bed later, 10:30 (after a 1/2hr screaming fit) and was awake again at 1:30, managed to rock her off to sleep but she was awake again at 2:00 and wouldn't settle in her own basket so she's been in the bed with us which meant I didn't get any sleep.

When is everyone planning on giving some "other" food? I've read it should be 6 months but my friend has given her little boy 3 meals a day from about 4 months (maybe earlier) is there a norm or do I just go with what she wants? Aaliyah is definately interested in our food and tries to steal it if you're closer enough.

Also when do they start teething as I'm thinking that the screaming fits we've been having may be related to it as she keeps sticking her fingers in her mouth and rubbing her bottom gums like hell, not to mention there are a couple of what looks like pressure marks where her front 2 teeth would be.

We're hoping to go swimming next week as she LOVES the water. Just have to remember that if she goes under she'll hold her breath till I clear all the water off her mouth.

Hope your all ok.

lilyloo · 04/04/2008 13:42

Lucky teething can vary ds was 5 months and dd1 was 10 months when they cut their first teeth.
Ds was given food at 4 months but that was reccomendation the3n now they say 6 months loads of stuff about this on weaning thread tbh i am going to wait until 6 if i can as it's quite time consuming.
Think lo's might bte hitting on or around 12 week growth spurt so that may explain sleepless nights ?

Frag good luck for this aft and lot's of love to you sil.

Thanks mm will try them.

Cheers lilly, I'm gonna have to start taking bottles to bed as well then (she'll be 12 weeks on weds) i only have enough breastmilk for her for one feed a night now so i'll have to take a bottle to bed as well and maybe she'll sleep better.

Lilly - I've got those bottle and she loves them, hardly any wind.

gingeme · 04/04/2008 15:11

Hi ladies a quick post while I got the chance. Everything went well yesterday re picking up my big boys from Luton. Took ds3 who thought it was a big adventure all went a bit pear shaped when we got home though. ds3 and 4 thought it was a big game getting the blow up mattress out and the other flop down bed I have. All got a bit hectic. dh put ds5 to bed while I was settleing the other two. ds1 and 2 went to bed about 10. All quiet till 10.30 when ds4 was crying. Tried setteling him and ds4 woke crying and started being sick. Settled him and ds4 still crying for about an hour after many attempts to settle him. I gave up and gave him to dh while I went to bed. Went to sleep to be woken about 2.30 to feed ds5. Phew!!!!
Well apart from that everything is fine. ds3 and 4 slept this afternoon for a couple of hours to catch up.
And its only day 1

AngeChica · 04/04/2008 15:12

Had a lovely walk this morn with another mum and her LO. But it's gonna get all wintry again up here at the w/e apparently, so we will prob just hibernate.

Alek seems to have "rediscovered" his voice in last day or so and has started chattering away - loads of cute gurgles. DH and I call it his Googling because he says "Google" a lot. Wondered if this led to milestone waking last night... he had been sleeping 8-12 and 1-5 last few nights but then slipped in a 3.30 feed as well. Tried to settle him with just a dummy but he wanted none of that. He then slept til gone 7 and woke up Googling for ages to himself in his cot. But I was still awake of course from 5.45 when DH gets up , waiting for DS to stir, anyone else do that?

Yes I am quite happy for Alek's weight gain to slow down, it's already putting a strain on my back, don't want him to be a massive toddler or whatever!

Have good weekends all. DH off for 2 weeks from today hurray. Celebrating with Asda pizza and wine. One glass for me the rest of the bottle for him .

barristermum · 04/04/2008 15:27

Hi all,
Cerys has been aking in the night the last 3 nights which is a change for her - normally very reliable thru the night. Have upped her formula intake and if she gets thru it all will have had 37oz - she's about 14lb. Does this sound right?

Interested to hear about the 3 hole teats gingeme - what might the drawbacks be? Cerys just downed 8oz in 29mins on 2 holes so think 3 might be good.

Jealous of the swimming want to do that with her so much.

love to all for lovelyweekends

katyt1 · 04/04/2008 21:12

hi all not been on in a few days and feel like i get behind so quickly!
(if anyone is lurking out there and fees they can't post cos they can't keep up, just dive in whenever and say hi)

re tummy time - ds1 hated it and was sick every time we tried it. but he learnt to crawl no probs and there are certainly no longterm side effects. i give ds2 more time than i did ds1 but not v long.
tried him in his activity centre (we called it a magic roundabout for ds1!) today, he's still far too small really but he seemed to enjoy looking around for a few mins.

henry was down to 1 feed a night, then had 2, then up to 3 last night realised in the night that i hadn't eaten loads.
so have tried to eat more today.

anyway, tired now, will try to catch up better tomorrow, nite all
