Here we go! (or should I say here wii go!?). I'll try doing a link too...

Incidentally, I had a dream last night that Cerys suddenly learnt how to blow proper raspberries! Don't know where it came from but it could be that she has been trying since she was about 4 weeks old and did it entirely by accident yesterday!

Hope you find the right time Kyala. Glad he's a bit more chilled.

Well done MrsB and Paul! A rested mum and a rested baby sounds like the perfect combination.

Good luck at the childminders Linus. Are you back at work Sophus? Hope all goes well.

Plp, sorry to hear about the teariness. Know what you mean about not having enough time to be depressed. Is dh able to give you emotional support? I know it's not easy if he's his own struggles to cope with. You said before that you're going back to the docs in a few weeks - maybe think about going back sooner if things are making you down. Just wanted to remind you that we're all here for you if you need us.

nh101, I remember you from before. How lovely that you are expecting twins! That is fantastic. Twins are the best - and I say that on great authority because I am one! I have a twin brother, so am a fan of girl/boy twins! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy, hope all goes well.

I've got another infection of some sort. Not sure what exactly yet. Yesterday evening I felt a bit unwell and then noticed my temp was rising. It peaked at 40.4. I tend to get a bit dolally confused above about 41 deg so was lucky this time. Fortunately my gp gave me some antibiotics to keep on standby, so I've started them and taking paracetamol to keep my temp down. I'm feeling better today, I'm generally a bit achy, but that's all. No nasty cough yet. I thought I was over all this, but they did warn me that I may still get the odd infection over the coming weeks. Oh well.

Hello all

MrsF- what a relief that the cream is working for Ben! You must be relieved!

Kink - we had such a fab night, and now that I have started to wean ryan off bfeeding; I see a few more nights like that on the horizon. and just in time fo spring and summer.

NH - i dont remember you as I joined the thread later into my pregnancy, but huge congrats on the twins.

PLP - a night out may be just what you need. How have the last few days been?

Sophus - am having the nanny vs nursery dilemma at the moment. cannot decide which will be better for DS when I get back to work.

MrsB - i know what you mean about broody. i am feeling a little sad (silly female emotions) as formula is given to Ryan and I know it is only a matter of time before he is a really independant little tyke....makes me think about another little one. Crazy arent we?

Fio - oh dear, sorry to hear about the nits. Ryans jabs are all done but I need to take him back for his second rotavirus one in 10 days and am not looking forward to it - he was unsettled for a good week afterwards. am hoping since this is the second lot, it wont be as bad.

Kinki - sorry to hear you arent well. Hope you feel better soon, rest lots.

Well I am having a thoroughly lazy day after a lazy weekend. Weaning is going well although Ryan refused his first food this morning - courgette is a no no!

Hope everyone else well.

HammerHeadShark · 04/02/2008 13:38

Bonjour!

Nh101 - i remember you and what fantastic news that you are expecting twins - Congratulations!! I am a bit biased but having twins is fantastic - I feel very lucky. It is hard work, but so is any baby and the payback when you get TWO sets of cuddles, kisses and gummy smiles makes it worth while. It is lovely that they always have a playmate too. Please keep us updated.

PLP - hope Cerys's new dilator is not too ouch for you all and hope you are feeling ok - any news on when your day off will be - can't think of anyone who deserves it more.

Mrs Fish - so glad to hear Ben's skin is settling, poor little thing.

Mrs Bumblbee - that is great news about Paul's sleeping/settling - bit but Millie slept for 5 hours in a row last night - her longest for ages - before getting up for a snack!

Kyala - glad things with DH a bit more chilled - hope he keeps up the good work and you get to have your chat soon.

Sophus - hope Linus has a fab time at the Childminder - sounds so grown up

Fio - sorry to hear about the jabs/fake impetigo/nits nightmare - not a good combo.

Dal - glad you had a great night out and that Ryan is being a good boy with his formula, if a little disloyal to your boobs

Kinki - sorry to hear you are poorly yet again, hope that raging temp has settled - you must be so way beyond pissed off at this malarkey by now. Have you thought any more about taking action against the hospital?

Went out for a curry with two of my best friends last night, tanking Millie up and legging it! - Was lovely to be out by myself and to wear an underwired non-feeding bra! My boobs were elevated by about 3 feet.

Am trying to decide what to do about work - I want to take the 9 months paid mat leave (would go back in June) but don't know if we can afford that as the last 3 months will be on very reduced pay. Will try and tighten our belts as this will be the last time I am off work for a long time as I don't think we will have a no.4! Don't have to sort childcare as DH and I both work shifts so take it in turns to look after the DCs which is great (don't see much of each other tho'!) I think I will probably go back doing mainly night shifts which is less disruptive to the girls, and I can keep out of the NHS politics a bit as the bigwig managers are not around at night!

Have a good one x

sophus · 04/02/2008 21:54

well CM went really well, linus was very happy and had a great time, and was fast asleep when I went to pick him up. i'm not back at work yet - just wanted a few hours to myself once a week. he'll go probably two mornings a week and then build up to full days for when I go back to work.
dal - for me I just couldn't send a baby to nursery until they're 2.5 - 3. I just want him to have one on one care in a home. If/when I get pregnant with no 2 then we'll get a nanny - it makes financial sense then. I had a nanny and she is still a large part of my life. she's the only person I can rely on to remember my birthday!
hope everyone is having a good start to their week.
xx

dal21 · 05/02/2008 08:37

sophus - thats great! I veer between pros and cons for both. have time to decide tho so wont be rushing into anything.

Hammer - glad you got out minus millie too! The whole when back to work debate is tough isnt it. I realised on the weekend though that I am putting myself under pressure too soon. Will check out some nurseries and get Ryan registered; once that is sorted, plan to put it out of my mind for the next few months and enjoy my time with my little boy!

Hope everyone else is good!

PurpleLostPrincess · 05/02/2008 10:46

Well, so much for having a good birthday!! !!!!

The kids well and truly showed DH up this morning by surprising me with breakfast in bed (which is lovely of course!) while he lay in bed next to me. I told him over the weekend the best present would be to have the house running nicely and have the floors clean - he said he would blitz yesterday but still hasn't done it. Don't get me wrong, he has sorted out under the stairs and all the DVD's as well as getting rid of the kitchen table. All these things are great but I just wanted him to have a tidy up and do the floors. He hasn't even got me a card - I realise he has to ask me for money but he could have asked me a few days ago - the shops are only a few minutes walk away!!! Grrrrrr... Sorry to vent but I just had to let it all out, hopefully the day will get better - he has just mopped the kitchen floor. I'm off to my best friends for lunch - hopefully he will get on with things while I'm out - he'd better!!!!!

Cerys has had a little cold too bless her but seems to be doing a bit better today so hopefully thats the worst of it gone...

Sorry for all me me me - will try to get on later and do a proper catch up.

Sophus - thankyou for the info about Ben's skin, he is getting used to it now as he is letting me put the cream on without screaming so it is obviously getting better, the redness is now disappearing too

HammerHeadShark · 05/02/2008 11:19

Happy Birthday PLP - wishing you lots of pancakes and purpleness xxxxxx

MrsBumblebee · 05/02/2008 12:14

Happy Birthday PLP !!! Hope your floors are sparkling when you get back ! Most impressed by your children bringing you breakfast in bed ! (I can't wait until my DD1 is old enough to make me a cup of tea !!) Hope you have a lovely day !

Mrs Fish - glad to hear Ben's skin is getting better - poor love ! My dd1 had bad excema (co-incided with starting solids but it totally cleared by the time she was 2 .

Kinki - sorry you are poorly again. Hope you can get some rest and are feeling alot better soon !

Congratulations nh101 - how lovely to be having twins !

Hello everyone else and happy pancake day !
Is anyone giving up anything for Lent ?

kyala · 05/02/2008 15:10

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PLP (Which reminds me, it's my mum's birthday today! )
Hope you're having a good day now DH has mopped the floor

I'm feeling better today, having had some lovely pancakes (should really walk those off when the girl's wake up, blatantly not going to happen though!) I've been playing with casting materials this morning/afternoon, it's been great fun, although I had to bribe DD1 into doing it (said she could do painting if she stuck her hand in goo for 2 minutes!) and then got Lucy covered in the stuff (learnt quickly from that episode!!) so did a second one and covered her and everything in spare fabric to keep mess at bay, didn't spill a drop that time
Both casts came out with something wrong (Lucy foot had a toe missing due to bubble and DD1 had 2 finger's snap) but not bad for a 1st go (and I've got loads of the stuff left over so can do better later when DH is around to help out (thought I'd have a practice so I know what I'm doing with the stuff, otherwise he'd get in a tiz and it's all quick setting so no time for dealing with tizzy daddy )

I've been getting loads of bulky post lately (I swear the postman thinks I've got many admirer's ) mainly from Ebay (i.e: casting materials) but got a little package from my Gran yesterday which had knitwear in it for the girls, great but quite a bit was in red and white (you know, Santa style!) so not too sure what to do with that (might just save it and Ebay just before Xmas this year, that'll help with buying presents!) I think she's going a little doolally, last time she sent a parcel there was a suspicious looking substance sort of under the tape that was wrapping the package (like it had been inside the parcel and had worked it's way under the tape and stuck there) it turned out to be hash!! She'd used some brown paper that had been given to her by someone else and hadn't realised that there was some loose in the bottom!! We wouldn't have minded so much but it was wrapping up a present for DD1 (Never going to let her live that one down!! )

I'm having a strange day, can't even remember what day it is half the time, still DH will be home soon and I'll have many other things to keep my mind busy, like what to do for dinner. . . . Any suggestions, I think maybe curry or pasta can't decide!

Later x

kinki · 05/02/2008 15:10

Hi everyone. Well whatever caused my temp on sunday night hasn't manifested into anything major yet. Bit of a sore throat but that's all, my temp is back to normal now. Ryan is barking like a seal and was sick this morning (very unusual for him to be ill) so maybe it's something to do with that. Hammer, I'm going to the hosp tomorrow for a scan and thought I might talk informally with some medical colleagues, see what they think. It's so hard, because I work with these people.

Happy birthday plp. Those kids of yours are a credit to you, they really are.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 05/02/2008 20:45

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PLP Hope you've had/are having a fab day!!!

sophus · 05/02/2008 22:01

happy birthday PLP.
you deserve the best birthday ever.

MrsMar · 07/02/2008 11:52

Hello all, sorry I haven't been on here for ages... been so busy. Taking a few mins while Luca sleeps to say hello.

Happy birthday PLP!!

NH101 - that's such great news about the twins, I'm chuffed for you

Kyala - I've been scrolling down, so sorry if you've already had an answer to this, but I asked the question the other day as to why my ebm smelt funny after it had been frozen. I can't seem to find the thread at the moment, but I do remember the answer was that some people's bm has a slightly different fat structure which is broken down differently when frozen, so that on defrosting it smells strange. I thought my ebm had gone off in the freezer, it had a funny metallic/rubbery smell and taste but apparently it's fine.. this is from kellymom and explains it more. I have given Luca the funny smelling milk and he's happy to take it, but if it's a problem, you can scald the milk before you freeze it and that apparently solves it.

oops..I can hear his nibs has woken up and is demanding my attention... take care everyone else, will catch up further later on

xx

kyala · 07/02/2008 21:19

Thanks MrsMar That's a really interesting read about the Lipases, didn't know that!

Wow it's really quiet the past few days here, has everyone gone on holiday? Hope you're all having fun and have gone somewhere nice and warm (more for colour effect than being sad lol)
Still at least it wasn't raining today eh?!

Lucy had her last set of jabs until she's one now, glad we don't have to do that again for a while but she was a very good girl (mummy had a bottle to hand and then she was fine ) but she's only put on an ounce and a half which is nowhere near as good as last week (HV said it was "Ok" but still not impressed) so have made the appointment for the Paediatric dietician for the end of the month, let's see how that goes! Oh, and I'm going to introduce yet another bottle feed during the night and boost her feeding to a more defined 3 hourly (sometimes during the day she'll sleep for 4 hours but HV says make it 3 whether she's awake or not, uck! I like having that surprise extra hour to myself, typical! lol) I don't mind as long as it makes a difference!
Righty, I'm off, checking Ebay

MrsBumblebee · 08/02/2008 08:33

Hi guys.

Kyala, sounds like you're doing just the right things to boost Lucy's weight. Paul's started having more feeds during the day now, as well. He gets hungry after about 3.5 hours now, rather than 4. He still seems to be thriving on just milk at the moment, though (at 20 weeks) - he's putting on weight like a trooper. I'm going to hold off weaning as long as he keeps gaining like this and doesn't wake in the night - but I'm getting really impatient now, as I'm really keen to try him on his first bit of 'proper' food! Maybe I'll try to keep myself busy by making him some food for the freezer - I've got the GF and AK weaning books from the library, so I've got recipes galore!

I'm telling myself I don't need a holiday as the weather is so absolutely beautiful here at the moment. Apparently today's going to be really warm, so I feel a long walk coming on. We've decided we're going away for a weekend a deux for our anniversary in July, though, leaving Paul with my parents - I can't wait, though I'm sure it will be difficult to leave him when the time comes! We're thinking of a city break to Barcelona or somewhere, though DH says we might as well save money and stay at home, given that all we're likely to want to do is sleep!!

Hope everyone else is well and enjoying the sunshine .

canadianmum · 08/02/2008 11:39

just had to come and say a quick hello and CONGRATULATIONS to nh101. Twins are fab, first year can be knackering and then you get mega payback as they keep each other occupied and happy (until they are 5 or so and start bickering like old women

I skim read the other posts, sorry.

Anna has been a little unsettled so i have been hurting my brain trying to figure out what to do - formula?? solids??? ebm?? In the end i took the lazy option and did nothing and she is happier and sleeping well again . will hold off on the baby rice for now then . can't believe she is 20 weeks!!!

big hugs to you all and will try to read posts properly soon........

canadianmum · 08/02/2008 11:42

mrsbumblebee, weather is gorgeous here too, spring is coming......

i am holding off on weaning too but have done some purees just to try to get ahead of the game. bought some jars of pureed peach today as my boys loved them and decent fresh peaches are so hard to get hold of......esp. in february!!!!

MrsFish · 08/02/2008 12:17

Hello all

Just a quickie, for those thinking of starting weaning soon... I can recommend Ellas Kitchen organic baby food. They come in handy little pouches and last for 48 hours once opened. They are actually quite tasty and I didn't think I would ever say that about pureed food You can get them in Sainsbury's and no doubt the other supermarkets too. Today's menu for Ben is Pear, Pea and broccoli. He loved the carrot, apple and parsnip one

Arbensmum · 08/02/2008 12:20

I'm still holding off on the weaning. I had a chat with an infasnt nutrionist at my postanatal group on tuesday, told her what had been going on with Arben and she said that i was right to stop for the mean time. Arben is still not drinking enough during the day, sometimes only 3ozs but he seems happier
He has got his first cold today, we have a snot river running done his face mmmmmmmmm nice

HammerHeadShark · 08/02/2008 19:40

Evening all

Arbensmum - ahh, hope the poor little mite feels better soon, Millie has had a cold for ages and her poor little nose is too tiny to breathe and feed at the same time and she gets cross as she is so hungry!

Mrs Fish - that organic baby food sounds good - is it pricey compared to jars? Must be good stuff as it has the word "organic" on it right How is Ben's skin getting on by the way?

Canadianmum - agree about twins and the playmate payoff and glad to hear Anna is settled again.

MrsBumblebee - your anniversary plans sound fab, something to really look forward to. Would love to get away sans children but think all three would be too much for my mum and dad Pensioners are no match for toddlers!

PLP - hope you had a fab birthday and got a bit of a break in the end.

kinki - how did your scan go and any progress with your chat about suing the buggers finding the best way forward?

Millie astounded me by sleeping for 11 hours last night, bless her, but I was up with a killer headache and took anadin extra by mistake because I am a muppet! Luckily by the time she got up I had reassurance that my milk would be safe once more. Fingers crossed she does a megasleep again tonight, but I'm not expecting miracles.

Its very quiet here at the moment - hope you are all doing very exciting stuff
