Thought I'd start this thread now as I think there's already a couple of people to go on it, and I know there'll be an awful lot more!!

Will update when I get a chance

OP posts:

Thanks Naetha - I have a real kicker as well so I think I'll give the grobags a try.

Having some problems with milk supply as well, at least I think I am. Truth is I'm never sure whether my boobs are really empty as there always seems to be something there even if it's only a trickle. I'm assuming that when she spits it out and complains loudly then it's time to switch sides.

lilyloo · 03/02/2008 20:16

Evening all
(((hugs))) Becky and Fluffy.
Fluffy poor you that sounds terrible but at least you spotted it quickly so hopefully won't be so bad this time round!
Rockdoctor would def try gro bags. Mine is 0 - 6 months and is fine don't see why it shouldn't be used i find it keeps dd really warm in the night as we don't have the heating on then!
Naetha not sure how long we will have Martha with us i kept ds with us until 6 months but dd until 3. However they each have their own bedroom now so Martha will be sharing so that will probably mean we will delay putting her in own room for a while!
Katy here's fingers crossed you get a better night tonight. I know what you mean about being less patient with other dc's i the same and then feel guilty for that
Angechica it must be really hard as your mum prob thinks she knows best but she needs to let you and dh find your own way! I often speak to friends who have this problem sadly my mum died just before ds was born so kind of miss her being around but would prob be the same as you if she was !
Nicky how did last night go ?
Sending much love to everyone else and it good to know we all feeling the same!
Well poor Martha's eyes are a real mess today. One of them just looks sticky but the other is weeping and is nearly closed and looks swolen all around it. Is this still sticky eye or should i be worried ? I am still trying breast milk in it and the midwife coming tom so will show her. She has been unsettled today but am sure it must be hurting her and feel so bad i can't help

Housemum · 03/02/2008 21:09

Rockdoctor - the grobag I have is 0-6 mths but only sover 10lb weights, so unless your DD is small I'd go for it - was thinking of putting Amelie in one tonight but then remembered she had long sleeve bodysuit on so wasn't sure if she'd be too hot - perhaps will tomorrow,

Naetha - dead impressed at 2-3oz expression! Is it an electric pump? My 10 quid Tommee Tippee is OK but not that great - would have liked the Medela Swing battery one but as I'm not working and only need to express for in-case-of-need eg if go out or am ill, then couldn't justify the cost. I will just have to defrost lots of little bags to make one bottle!

For anyone struggling with feeding there's a link to a good website here: www.kellymom.com/bf/index.html - someone on another thread pointed it out and it's great for reassurance!

katyt1 · 03/02/2008 21:49

aww (((fluffy))) all sounds a bit horrific for you. glad dh is being a sweetie, if you got through it once i guess the good thing is you know you can get through it again but the bad thing is you know what's involved.
keep coming on here to vent/let it out/etc.

hi mum2sam

naetha - thanks my parents were better today, ds1 went into their room and woke them up, they took him down for breakfast, and made us all a roast for lunch
they've left now and my in-laws are here until next sat to help. dh back to work tomorrow and he stays away lots with work will see how it goes...
lucky you getting proper smiles
and well done on avoiding the mastitis.

re LO in our room, i moved ds1 at 10wks and planning to move ds2 before then, we all slept so much better once he'd moved and he slept through the night from 2 nights later
not sure when i'll move henry, will see how the feeds settle down at night. only want to stagger across the landing a limited number of times

re grobags, yes i thought it was weight determined. need to dig mine out from last time to see. at the mo we have the heating on full time tho i'm sweating so much it would be nice to turn it down!!

becky - best of luck whatever way you go with the feeding

ange - lol at 'sectioned'
i agree re the numb jelly belly by the way
re positions...there's the 'watching tv' hold when you put your 'spare' arm between his legs and under his body - can't do anything other than watch tv as no hands free! shd help hold lo up off your tummy. stick with the v cushion if it helps. the rugby hold never really worked for me before.

rockdoctor - my one rule is never wake a sleeping baby ds2 often sleeps longer then 2 or 3 hours (during the day sadly!!) between feeds, longest was 6 i think (why not at night hey???!!). but he just made up for it when he woke up.

lilyloo - sounds like more than just sticky eye? hope our other dcs forgive us/or forget this bit!

hi housemum

oh also re feeling empty of milk - some of you have older babies now and your bodies may just have sorted out the supply and demand so you don't get that full feeling/hard boobs, doesn't mean there isn't milk there when needed. if they have a growth spurt then your boobs might feel a bit fuller for a few days then settle again. i for one am looking forward to having less full onesright huge post sorry

Susiemj · 04/02/2008 13:06

Hey ladies!

New pump[an electric double pump] arrived and I can totally recommend it. Didn't get tons {4oz / 10 minutes} but it is SO much easier and faster than single hand pump! Also much less uncomfortable on the nipple. Expensive but Inlaws paid for it, bless 'em!

IMO - FAB! here

madmouse · 04/02/2008 13:34

hi all

my beautiful nathan isaiah was born on 1 feb after 3 and a half days of labour ending in forceps delivery. he weighs 7lb4 and has blue eyes and blond hair.

we had 12 blissful hours cooing feeding and cuddling him. then he suddenly went blue and his eyes lost focus. they discovered he was fitting and that was stopping his breathing. he is now in intensive care all wired up in an incubator. it is heart breaking.

they have stopped the fits with drugs and are trying hard to find what is happening to my little boy possibly a metabolic disorder, so at the moment we have no idea what the future holds.

i have not read any of your posts as just catching glimpses of baby cries and nappy talk has me in floods

love you all.enjoy your gorgeous babies.

MamaMaiasaura · 04/02/2008 13:47

madmouse just logged on and saw this. In tears for you all and hope that little nathan isiah is better soon and back in your arms being cooed and loved.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

lilyloo · 04/02/2008 13:54

fluffymummy · 04/02/2008 14:38

Madmouse - DH and I are both thinking of you and sending you and your dh and little Nathan Isaiah all our love and support....was welling up with tears as I read your post and desperately hoping that the hospital get him fixed up and back in your arms for cuddles and love as fast as possible. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

scaryhairycat · 04/02/2008 14:43

madmouse - So sorry to hear that sweetheart, praying that things will work out for you.
Lets hope they find out soon what is causing these fits - it's terrifying when you see your little one like that, sometimes it's not as serious as it looks though - fingers crossed that it's not and they can sort it.xxx

fruitfulinotherways · 04/02/2008 14:51

Oh Madmouse. I will be praying for you, for Nathan, and for his doctors to know what to do.

Are you able to put your arms around him in the incubator?

toomanyshoes · 04/02/2008 15:05

Madmouse, am so, so sorry you are going through this. Will be thinking of you all and hoping that little Nathan is back in your arms soon. It must be so hard.
Would it help to start a new thread so we can all offer you a bit of support and a place to talk away from all the other baby chatter? If you want me to start one, just shout xx

LuckySalem · 04/02/2008 15:41

Madmouse - I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending all my thoughts and prayers your way and hope little nathan is up and about soon for you.

ANGE - I tend to let her lie on my belly and hold her head with one hand and my boob with the other (I aim too) If I don't hold my boob I suffocate her. I don't have too much discomfort with her lying on my belly as it overhangs the section place and so adds abit of cushioning. My main problem is getting up and down cos it pulls at where the incision was made.

lilyloo · 04/02/2008 15:58

toomany i think that's a really good idea to start a new thread for mm. As she may loose our messages as she won't have much time i'm sure to trawl through this thread and like you say away from baby talk for now!

Susiemj · 04/02/2008 16:22

Madmouse - congratulations on the birth of your beautiful boy. So terribly sorry he's not well. sending lots of love to you. I'll be praying that you're all home safe and well very soon.

Good idea about the thread toomany. i think you should go ahead.

toomanyshoes · 04/02/2008 16:36

Right, have started a new thread for madmouse here

Amani · 04/02/2008 16:54

well done on setting that thread up toomanyshoes - I've posted my msg for madmouse on that thread.

nicky6 · 04/02/2008 16:59

madmouse sending lots of love and hugs.

Last night was ok - dh decided i was just too tired and stayed here.

Breastfeeding so hideous - one inverted nipple is absolute agony - to the point where i dread every feed.

Midwife today thinks charlotte is tongue tied so back to hospital tomorrow and they may cut it - apparently it has a real effect on breastfeeding. also using nipple guards which are helping and trying to express to see us through the night.

So will give it another 48 hours and otherwise i am switching over to formula as it is making me really unhappy. glad to hear that lots of other people are doing the crying thing - so not like me - as i was beginning to panic and think that all the crying might mean i might get post natal depression.

Also the vulva infection seems to be clearing up so at least thats one good thing.

No sleep again last night and no nap today as yet so utterly knackered. Dh absolutley exhausted too.

Oh well can only get better.

barristermum · 04/02/2008 17:16

Oh my god - poor madmouse - puts ff v bf concerns into perspective don't it?

Grobags are weight specific - mine (Which we are not getting much use out of as Cerys likes swaddling) says to put lo in it in a vest and longsleeved sleepsuit.

Naetha - we moved cerys into her own room at the weekend - Iwanted to do it before dh went back to work in case she found it v disruptive but in fact she has slept better and obviously so have we all, esp dh. I don't really understand the SIDS advice as it's not as if I'd be able to prevent cot death if asleep next to her any more than asleep in a room just opposite our own. So have gone ahead with own plans.

Hang on in there Nicky and Becky - as fruitful says - this too shall pass.

Fluffy - poor you - sounds most uncomfortable to say the least. Text me if I can bring you things to make life easier.

Still no poos from Cerys - paediatrician friend says not to worry but now 5 days. No HV or MW visits due - whadya all reckon?

gingeme · 04/02/2008 18:31

Afternoon ladies.
So sorry to hear yout lo is poorly Madmouse. Realy realy hope all turns out well.
We have had my parents here for the weekend. Was nice except they did lots of cuddling of lo and he wont stay in his chair now. I am in fact typing this with him in a sling as he wouldn't even let me make a sandwich for my ds's without screaming blue murder. Going to definately start a bed time routine tonight and get him to sleep in his moses basket if I can. Co sleeping is all good and well but Im not getting much sleep in between feeds in fear of squashing him.
Feeding is going realy well though and hes going roughly 3 hourly now In fact I had him weighed today and hes has put on 4oz so he weighs 9lb 2 oz now. Good boy.
Im going to have a look at baby hammocks if George doesnt settle in the moses basket. Anyone had experiance of these?
Getting into all my old clothes now too. Had 'real' jeans on this weekend and felt great. Going to my friends wedding on the 18th Feb and going to treat myself to a new outfit
Well time to bath my other boys soon.
Take care all xxx

MamaMaiasaura · 05/02/2008 15:00

about gettin g in to old jeans. Tbh tho i havent actually tried on my old jeans yet.

Have managed a couple of pairs of pre preg trousures but they are tighter than before.. my jelly belly

Got a stone to lose before pre preg weight too. Not too worried as took 9 months to put on and he isnt even 6 weeks yet.

LuckySalem · 05/02/2008 15:11

BM - Have you got a number you can call for the HV? I'd give them a quick buzz and just get them to confirm all ok. HOWEVER if your pead friend says ok, then chances are it is.

Awen - old jeans (pah) haven't even got outta my mat jeans yet! i've got a really bad overhang now which I just don't think we're going to shift.

Crappy nights sleep again last night, i'm wondering if she knows DP has gone to work now (works nights) and so thinks she can wind mummy up!

HV coming today (any minute now) to do her checks and have loads of questions for her. Aly has got a wierd thing on her eye (looks as though she's grown an extra layer on the glassy bit, IYKWIM) she's got spots which look REALLY sore and I wanna know about swimming cos we're both desperate to take her.

Anyways... Hope everyone is ok. XXX

Susiemj · 05/02/2008 15:15

(coughs in embarrassed fashion) - I weighed myself yesterday and have 2 stone to lose to pre-preg weight! And I didn't EAT anything while pregnant . Oh well. hopefully with bf, hill at end of street and exercise bike i'll be ok. have to recover from cs first.

Amani · 05/02/2008 15:46

afternoon ladies,

Ventured out to parent and toddler group with DD1 and DD2 today. It felt so wonderful to meet other mothers and have a bit of a natter. Much as I love my princesses it was lovely having a conversation with an adult.

Am about 10lb over my pre-preg weight, and bought myself a lovely and reasonably priced pair of George sized 12 trousers, which nicely accomodated my chunky thighs.

Nicky6 - sending you lots of hugs...
