Thought I'd start this thread now as I think there's already a couple of people to go on it, and I know there'll be an awful lot more!!

Will update when I get a chance

Hi everyone, I finally get to join you here 'officially'!!

Tamara Lucy was born on Tuesday evening (24 hours or so after I posted that I was heading into hospital on the 'due in Jan' thread ) weighing 8lbs 9ozs. And hurrah, no induction!! She's brilliant, we love her and we're all horribly luvved up at the moment

I'll post a proper birth story tomorrow, as soon as I get a chance to breathe - we only got home yesterday and we've been trying to make lots of time for DS as well as our lovely new DD.

Lots of love and hugs to all of you, will read up and catch up properly soon, off for a feed, Fluffy xxx

congratulations fluffy! great name. welcome to the world Tamara.

Amani · 01/02/2008 10:47

Well done Fluffy and congratulations!

Can't remember if this has been mentioned before, but I sometimes seem to spend ages trying to wind Aliya. Last night I gave her a bottle top-up and it took me 10 mins to get her to burp. When it's 3am it feels like I'm sitting there for for an age trying to get the wind out.....

Amani · 01/02/2008 10:48

Anyone else thinking that their heating bill is going to be huge this winter? We've kept our on more or less constantly since Aliya was born (obviously keeping her warm is priority).

Naetha · 01/02/2008 12:19

I'm with you on the burping Amani - me and Ben have both fallen asleep with him draped over my shoulder waiting for a burp... Infacol really does help get those burps up though - makes a world of difference

As for the heating, we used to have ours on 18 degrees for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening, and the thermostat set to 16 degrees the rest of the time. Now we have it set to 18 degrees all the time and I think it's going to be costing us a fortune My own personal body temperature thermostat hasn't sorted itself out yet though - I feel really cold for ages and put on a down bodywarmer just to keep myself warm, then all of a sudden I'll be absolutely roasting and sweating like mad! I guess my body hasn't got used to losing my central heating system (Ben!) yet!

We've just given in on the whole co-sleeping thing for the time being. It's the only way any of us can get any sleep, I just hope he'll go into his own cot in good time!

hey girls, thanx for all the input on the bf/ff issue and expressing. Tried expressing again last night and did a little better, twice the amount previously but still only an ounce - maybe it's just persistence. will see again this evening.

actually wondering if cerys is on growth spurt as she fed every 2and a half hours last night so bit knackered today. earlier in the week she was sleeping 5 even 6 hours at a time.

Also, sorry if tmi but no poos from her in two days - lots of wet nappies but no dirty. Should i worry? Wondering if my iron tablets are constipating her as well as me?

and to continue the toilet theme I am now on antibiotics for nasty bout of cystitis which earlier in the week was keeping me awake more than cerys! It's all glamour this motherhood lark isn't it?!

Lets have the birth story fluffy. Glad all so much better than last time. How is big brother taking to new arrival.
Finally - Mrs McJnr where are you?!!!

Susiemj · 01/02/2008 13:43

I'm in the antibiotics gang too! second lot here.

i'm not so worried about the heating as house seems permanently 18 degrees but i seem to be doing a wash every day. anyone else? some of them are half loads of baby clothes but all the same!

all sabela is doing today is feeding and crying. feeding every hour now. crying most unlike her. growth spurt?

think poo thing is ok barristemum!

got to go - more screaming!

gingeme · 01/02/2008 16:30

Hello all. Had a quick read through.
Many congrat Nicky and Mrs Biscuit. Glad to hear you carrying on bf Barristermum. Hope it gets easier.
Alls well here. Dh has taken it upon himself to sleep in thr front room. We all sleep better especialy as we are still co sleeping for now. Lo had his BCG today. He was very brave and didnt cry too much. Another good thing about bf great comforter
Ds4 has loads of teeth all of a sudden. He seems to have two growing on each side both top and bottom. Medised is a God send
My parents are here weekend. Will be a welcome break.
Take care all xxx

LuckySalem · 01/02/2008 18:26

Hi all,

Congrats Fluffy!! - I like Tamara. Wonder if aly wants a name change? lol

Registered Aaliyah today at the office she has a birth certificate now! Just need to sort out the child tax stuff now. Does anyone know if DP can apply for working family tax credit? He earns roughly £18k per year. is that too much?

Had another good night last night she slept from 10pm till 7:30am with one feed break at 4am. We're swaddling her at night now and I think that's what's making her sleep through. When she's not swaddled she wakes herself up pulling at either her eyes or ears.

I don't always get a burp when I'm winding is this a bad thing? Should I be continuing till something comes out?

Anyways.... hope your all ok. XXX

Susiemj · 01/02/2008 19:07

Lucky - i don't get a burp always and seems ok. i'm pretty sure your dp can get tax credit. dh does and he earns a bit more. his payroll should know.

LuckySalem · 01/02/2008 19:10

Will go jobcentre and see what they will give him.

I really want to take Aly swimming tomorrow but I don't know what to dress her in or if it's safe. I did start another thread but no-one's answered so thought I'd ask you lot too.

toomanyshoes · 01/02/2008 20:03

Hello

Congratulations Fluffy! Am delighted for you. Pics please!

Lucky, yes its safe to take them swimming before their jabs but some pools have a policy of only allowing vaccinated babies so check with pool first. The only concern with taking newborns swimming is that they don't get too cold so the recommendation is to only stay in the water for ten to fifteen minutes. You will need a swimming nappy, you can but them from the supermarket, they are called little swimmers. have a lovely time, I want to take Charlie next week! You have reminded me that we still haven't registered Charlie will do it on Monday.

Susie and barristermum, sorry to hear about the antibiotics, hope you both feel better soon x

I have had a horrible day today. We're all still full of colds and the car has been in the garage being fixed so been stuck at home. Can't really walk far because of the SPD so couldn't even go to the park. As a result DD has been totally vile all day. Kicking, hitting, shouting et. Woke Charlie up every single time he fell asleep and generally behaving like the spawn of satan! She is normally such a sweetie so very out of character Was so fed up and frustrated that I burst into tears earlier. Things are much calmer now she is in bed
Also, I realised today that if i was still at work i would be in Miami this week working on a fashion shoot, staying in a nice hotel and eating out every night! Instead I was stuck indoors, telling DD off and wiping up snot and poo all day. Ho hum, the joys of motherhood! They are worth it of course

Hope youve all had better days than me xx

toomanyshoes · 01/02/2008 20:07

Katy - forgot to reply re SPD, no idea how common it is to get it post natally. GP just said it sometimes happens. Will need physio to get rid of it, just unlucky I think. Feels like my nether regions have been stamped on by a cart horse

LuckySalem · 01/02/2008 20:09

Oh TMS - Sounds like a horrid day. Hope tomorrow is better. Having something like a Miami trip as an alternative must be hard.

katyt1 · 01/02/2008 20:37

Congratulations Fluffy
hope all is going well with 2 - forgotten sorry how old is ds? hope he is ok, ds1 still taking some time to adjust, tho the past few days he has at least given me some cuddles so think i may be forgiven!

tms - hope the physio gets working soon, meantime take it as easy as you can and remember the tricks re getting our of car/bed/etc, keep knees together if at all poss.
re miami trip too! was fantasising about the long train journey to see my parents (in plymouth) if i could go on my own all that peace and quiet and reading, etc. for HOURS!!! ah well.

lucky - yes check with pool re their rules, otherwise just a swim nappy is fine. tho there are some dead cute girls swimsuits out there
don't always get burps here either. if ds2 falls asleep at boob, then i put him straight down anyway, he either (mostly) stays asleep until next feed or stirs and complains so i'll pick him up again.
dh just did the magic daddy trick of holding him for 2 secs and he falls asleep - makes him feel like a superdad

gingeme - hope you are all getting some sleep, tho hope dh can move back in soon.
hope ds4 teeth coming out ok.

um - can't remember what else i was going to say!
generally hope all's well with everyone

Naetha · 01/02/2008 23:15

Another tough day of lots of crying I think we may have a colicky baby on our hands, which is one of the things I was dreading It's been ramping up every night for the past week, but between 6pm and 10pm and between 7am and 10am every day, Ben is a very uncomfortable and unhappy bunny. Infacol is great for getting his burps up, but doesn't seem to be relieving his pain at all. Anyone had any experience with colicky babies here? Is it worth trying to rule things out like reflux and dairy sensitivity? Some people seem to swear by a cranial osteopath...

OP posts:
Susiemj · 01/02/2008 23:52

Naetha - it's only a litle thing and you've probably tried it but have you done the 'colic hold' ? - lygin the baby tummy down along your arm and supporting the head wit hthe hand. I do this and I also lay her along my knee. The pressure on the tummy seems to help. - although I don't think dd1 is colicky - it might not be enough for a really colicky baby.

nicky6 · 02/02/2008 11:22

sore nipples an a vulval infection dont help with the whole teary thing for me.

she seems to eat well but during the day i have to wake her up for a feed. does anyone know if you are trying to feed three hourly whether you take the time from when you start the feed or when you finish th feed to start the next one.

she sleeps best when lyng on my chest and still doesnt like the moses basket at night so we are going to try to cot - she seems to hate being swaddled and restricted so we are going to try the cot and see if that helps - anything to make her sleep a bit through the nigt otherwise she can stay sleeping on my chest and i refuse to give myself a hard time. Although have been giving myself hard time about not being able to breast feed immediately get her to sleep through the night etc etc but am trying to be a little easier on myslef and remember she is only 10 days old today

Much harder thn i thought all this. Would people wake her up during the day to feed her?

barristermum · 02/02/2008 11:37

Oh nicky you sound just like I felt 10 days in when I really felt at the end of my rope. Do not be hard on yourself - this is a whole new set of skills and Archbold has no guidance! Also baby manuals are worse than house of lords for dissenting judgements. Do whatever you can to get sleep - have you tried grobags when moving her across from your chest? Also dummy may help? Re timing - I think you count from start of each feed. Re waking her - my health visitor said not to wake Cerys, but believe Susie was told to wake hers for feeding - so go with your instinct.

2mny - ruff old day poor thing!

Naetha - sorry to hear about colic! I was hoping if it hadn't started by now it wasn't going to - one of my manuals said it normally started when newborn was 10 days old.

Still no poo! 3 days now!

LuckySalem · 02/02/2008 11:46

Well we've got the opposite problem here!! Poorl ol' Aaliyah has got the runs and as a result won't let me put her down. Waiting for DP to get up so my arms can have a break.

DP goes back to work Sunday night n i'm panicking. It'll be the first time we've been completely on our own.

BM- Can u not ring your HV and ask her about no poos?
Nicky - I never wake Aly for food so she sometimes goes 4/5 hours between feeds but ultimately its upto you.

lilyloo · 02/02/2008 12:00

Nicky have you been advised to wake her in the day ? TBH i leave Martha and she can go four hours but she gaining weight so i am happy to do that. You may find if you leave her she will just cluster feed at some point in the day.

Lucky hope swimming goes well. I have never taken my little ones so early and i think dd would be most put out if we only went in for tem minutes. Apparantly though babies still have reflex to swim under water and not swallow water. I was reading of a baby swimming class where her children were swimming without any aids at 18 months after she took them from a few weeks old!

Naetha you have my symapthies. Sounds like colic, my ds suffered with this terribly. I would def try cranial osteopath. We never got told about this until afterwards. I found baby massage really helped though. There is a specific one for colic where you use the side of your thumb in circular motions around the belly button. Ask your health visitor for your local class. Also have you tried colief ? It is more expensive but i found it much more effective for colic. Hope these help as it is so distressing for everyone!

Amani r/e the burps i wouldn't worry if you don't always get them as it depends how quickly they drink and if they swallow any air which they may not necessarily do with every feed.

Barristermum i would def mention the no poo to your midwife / hv as it could be the tablets. Well done on persevering with the expressing it takes time!

Susie , toomany hope your lo's are a little better today toomany think most of us wouldn't say no to a day in Miami at the moment

Gingeme hope you have a nice rest with your parents help this weekend!

Well we snowed in here today!
Just a quick question i think Martha may have conjunctivitis ? She had a sticky eye yesterday and now it's in both eyes. Anyone know what drops i can use for her or will i need to see doc? Did someone say breast milk on here for sticky eyes or did i imagine that ?
Still co sleeping here managed to get Martha to go to bed in moses basket last night but she only settled for half an hour! She is so settled through the day in it it's odd!
Well me and dp resumed marital relations yesterday so alls ok on that front! although finding time is now some what of a task in itself so not sure it will be regular occurence!
Hope everyone else ok and congrats to Fluffy and Angechica x

Susiemj · 02/02/2008 15:51

nicky 6 - it's from the start of the feed - so a three hour feeding schedule would feed at 3, 6, 9 etc. I would wake her up but agree with barristermum - you know best about your baby. Sorry about infection.

barristermum - i think the poo thing sometimes ahppens with exclusively bf babies - the milk is so well suited that they don't have any waste to excrete .

Lilyloo - for the eye - I use cold recently boiled water and / or bm. it works for me, though not always fro many days. Sabela seems to have calmed dwon now - thanks.

Hello all. Has Angechica had her baby? Congratulations!

lilyloo · 02/02/2008 16:30

Yep she had a boy posted on the due in Jan thread. If any of you get chance maybe pop back to see the ladies left still 3 or 4 popping on there and some really funny posts r/e tumbleweed and being left to stack the chairs and clear the cups away!
