Hi!

Any mums out there with April newborns? If there is already a group going please point me in the right direction!

I’m a first time mum with a 2 week old little girl Smile looking for some people to chat to with similar aged babies!

@yustynne he fights sleep a lot during the day, but a sure fire way for me to get him down is to go for a walk. I walk miles every day getting him down to nap!

It does mean he won't nap in his cot but I don't mind as it mean he associates his cot with bedtime and all night sleeping.

Maybe talk to your HV? Does your little one not nap at all?

yustynne · 31/10/2018 22:57

amy at best she naps 15 to 30 min in her pushchair if I go for a walk. At home she fights her sleep and she wouldn't nap in her cot bed. Recently she is just screaming. She is never satisfied. I breastfeed her, give her some solid food thinking she is hungry but it takes her just 5 min and she is back screaming. She used to sleep through the night but last 3 nights she started waking up screaming 3am. I have to feed her to sleep. Do you have similar problems? I wonder if it's going to pass.

amysaurus87 · 01/11/2018 07:12

@yustynne my LB has never napped in his cot, I'm not entirely bothered by this as it means he associates his cot with bedtime and all night sleeping. He generally doesn't wake up unless he gets cold or in an awkward position, but patting his back and putting his Ewan dream sheep back on sends him back to sleep pretty quickly.

If you've started solid food it could be her tummy that's waking her up? Which might explain why she needs a feed to sleep.

yustynne · 24/11/2018 22:33

Hi, is anybody still following this forum? How are you all doing? Where are you at in a weaning process? I have another issue with my LO. She is 7 months and a half and she pulls herself up holding whatever she finds on her way and tries to stand, then she falls down backwards on the laminate banging her head. She doesn't want to stay in her playpen or a swing. I put the carpet down in lounge for her to crawl but she goes onto laminate and keeps banging her head there. What should I do? I ran out of ideas and I'm getting fed up chasing her everywhere.

amysaurus87 · 26/11/2018 07:12

I'm still here! Weaning is very very slow, my LB is just not interested. He grabs at our food but when it comes to him eating he only has a few spoons (if I'm lucky) and then that's it. He's about 7.5 months and still only on 1 meal a day.

@yustynne you must have your hands full with your LO crawling now! My LB is trying to work it out but he prefers rolling!

How is everyone else getting on?

yustynne · 26/11/2018 22:47

amy I'm holding my head! She is not only crawling but also standing and because her legs are not strong enough she keeps falling and breaking her head. I can't leave her for a second! Those days of a tiny baby in a moses basket are long gone. It's nice to see my LO progressing in everying but at the same time I can't do anything around the house.
She said her first syllable which sounded so sweet.
Weaning! My LO has most of the time 2 or 3 tiny meals a day that's about 1 or 2 table spoons at a time. Has anybody tried any meats yet? I tried giving her chicken with carrot and swede. It didn't go that well. Maybe I had to choose beef to start with as it's more forgiving meat on stomach.

Alxx · 27/11/2018 04:12

I’m here too!
@yustynne wow sounds like your LO is progressing really well! But it does sound like you have your hands full. I don’t have any advice I’m afraid. My LB isn’t crawling yet but he is trying, he gets on his hands and knees but hasn’t figured out what to do next! He does roll a lot though and get around that way so I’m already having to keep a close eye on him. He’s also started to babble a lot more which is really cute.

My LB has 2 or 3 meals a day, up to about 3 tablespoons usually, although he’ll eat a bit more if it’s fruit and baby rice! We tried a pouch that was turkey & veg which he liked (Heinz one I think) but he was less keen on a chicken one we tried. Not tried beef yet. I made lots of homemade veg purées for the freezer but he much prefers the pouches at the moment. He’s also only just started putting things in his mouth himself (and only melty puffs so far!).

amysaurus87 · 27/11/2018 22:08

@yustynne I think my LB may have said dada the other day, he says "adada" a lot, which we've taken as dada. I get lots of bbbbb and mmm as well as abababa it's so cute when he gets going!

Thankfully he doesn't pull himself up yet, he's trying to work out how to sit up though and he definitely gets about by rolling!

I was worried about how little food he eats, especially when the HV told me he should be on 2 meals a day, but he's putting on weight so that's all I care about. We had a few setbacks due to teething and colds but he's getting better. I'm going to try him on porridge tomorrow morning and see how that goes!

yustynne · 28/11/2018 15:46

Exactly! My LO also says similar sounds like mmm or bababa or tries to imitate the car sound bbbbb. That sounds really sweet!
Just wait you guys when your LOs start pulling themselves up and stand! I decided to buy a baby safety hat and I'm also thinking about a baby walker. These are probably the only things that may keep her safe. She is sitting up as well from time to time but she prefers crawling and standing. I have to always keep a close eye on her. It takes a second and I find her in another room checking out cat bowls of foodSmile
I believe I should buy some meaty pouches for her to try as I don't know what meat she will like. We tries tomato and leek puffs as well. She seemed to like them.

forestftm · 02/12/2018 15:37

Still here as well!

LO is 7.5 months old now.

Having 3 meals a days, at least 3 tablespoons per meal, mostly fruit or veg, some puréed some more mashed.

He has been crawling for about a month, and is now climbing and standing. It's very hard work as you can't leave him for a second and he wants to be on the go the entire time!

Annoyingly he has recently decided to wake up several times a night, not really sure why, he doesn't appear hungry or cold etc

Babbling away to himself, lots of things like ba da ma ra na

Amazing how quickly they develop and grow up

Alxx · 02/12/2018 16:46

How are your little ones’ teeth? My boy has 2 bottom teeth and 1 top one has just come through and the 2nd feels like it won’t be long until that comes through too. The issue is I’m still breastfeeding and it can be painful! Occasionally he has bitten but more often it seems like he’s trying to latch without his tongue covering his bottom teeth so it’s quite painful. I’ve read elsewhere to take him off and try again but if I take him off he gets upset and won’t always latch on again, which is obviously not great as I’m sure he is hungry. Any advice?

amysaurus87 · 03/12/2018 07:32

@Alxx I feel your pain! My LB has his bottom 2 and his top 4(!!!!) Have all broken through the gum as well. He seems to be good at covering his teeth as I've only been bitten a few times. I can't offer any real advice, just a I know how you feel!

My LB is not interested in food at all, tried him on porridge last week and he refused to eat it, he won't eat lumps and is still on 1 meal (3 maybe 4 spoons) once a day. I've been trying to get him to eat more, but with his teeth cutting, his awful cold and being on antibiotics for his cough he just wants the boob all the time!

He's trying to work out how to crawl, so I think once his teeth come through fully and he's over this cold then then will be his next thing. He's totally got the hang of rolling over now and is really trying to sit up by himself.

Are any of your little ones in their own room yet? My LB is still in his Snuzpod bassinet as we are waiting to move house so are not putting his cot up until we move.

Does anyone have any tips for moving little ones into a cot and their own room?

thethirdbiscuiteer · 03/12/2018 11:58

I'm going to join if that's ok!

DD is 7.5 months and a generally happy baby, though is a TERRIBLE sleeper, both during the day and at night (wakes up multiple times and doesn't always settle back down). We're doing mostly baby-led weaning, and she's more interested in mashing things than eating at the moment, but no rush.

Amy, you asked about moving into their own room. We did it at 6 months. She was previously in a Sleepyhead type mattress inside a Snuzpod in our room. We moved the Sleepyhead into her cot in her own room to help with the transition, so it was something familiar. DD seemed ok with being in her own room. We have a BT monitor with ok night vision and a thermometer, so it's easy to keep an eye on her.

Any other BLW parents out there?

Sam91TRS15 · 03/12/2018 20:47

Hi everyone, I've not been on here in a while. All the wee ones sound like they are getting on so well! My Little man has one tooth and not crawling yet, but expecting it to happen soon enough.
We moved him to his own room at about 5 months as he had been sleeping well, but after starting nursery at 6 months old it all went downhill and he was back in with us for a while.
He is almost 8 months now and seems to be getting back into the hang of sleeping. Hopefully.
His tooth isn't causing problems feeding but he scratches me while feeding and I am covered in a million little scratches that are all nippy.
He is a chunky wee thing and has 3 meals a day and usually 10 spoonfuls or so. I'm expecting him to be super tall like his siblings so hopefully he will start to stretch soon

amysaurus87 · 05/12/2018 21:53

Welcome @thethirdbiscuiteer

Thanks for the tips with cot transition, my little one is in a SnuzPod at the moment (He's 7.5 months and ideally needs to come out of it) we are waiting to move house before we move him to the cot. I don't use a sleepyhead as my HV told me they weren't safe so I never brought one.

Not doing BLW, I'm waay to scared for that!

thethirdbiscuiteer · 05/12/2018 22:25

Ah yes, healthcare professionals can't seem to make up their mind about whether the sleepyhead is dangerous. And our sleepyhead isn't even the genuine sleepyhead! I figured it was breathable if DD face-planted into it, plus now she can roll away in the event of face-planting...

Alxx · 06/12/2018 05:55

@Amy wow 6 teeth! Glad it isn’t affecting your feeding. My LB seems to be getting better at covering them, I guess they’re still getting used to having these new things in their mouths!

My LB just started to crawl, he’s been trying to for a while but yesterday he actually got across the room! I love that he can get to wherever he wants, but I think I’m going to need eyes in the back of my head!

My LB is in his own room now too, although I don’t have much advice because he was always sleeping in the nursery, with me sleeping in there with him, so it wasn’t too much of a transition (for him at least!) when I started sleeping in our bedroom again. That was just before 7 months. He’s in a big cot now but before he was in a sleepyhead in a snuzpod too, but he was getting a bit big and starting to roll more so at about 5.5 months we moved him. It did disturb his sleep for a few nights but now he loves it and is always wriggling around!

Is anyone back at work yet or going back soon? I’m due back in January. Little one will be in nursery 2 days a week and with his dad 2 days (at least until his dad gets a new job, then he’ll probably be in nursery full time). I am dreading being apart from him so much! Also not sure how starting nursery will go, but I think (hope) he’ll love it once he’s used to it.

amysaurus87 · 09/12/2018 18:54

@Alxx I'm glad it's not affecting feeding too! Sleep however is another thing. He's started to wake up at 2/3 every night and needs a feed to get back to sleep!

I'm not going back to work anytime soon, it's likely to be at least April next year, but it could well be June! Child care will be the bridge I cross in January!

amysaurus87 · 20/12/2018 13:17

How are all the April babies? Are we all looking forward to Christmas?

yustynne · 20/12/2018 20:56

Hey!
amy we are fine and can't wait for Christmas! I'm just worried about Christmas tree. Not sure where to put it. I'm sure it will go down because my LO loves everything new she sees.
Alxx I'm also going back to work just after New Year. My return was due in March but I have to go back earlier as Mat pay finished and I can't afford staying at home. Are you excited to go back?
Anybody else's babies still sleep with them in the same room?

amysaurus87 · 21/12/2018 19:58

@yustynne my LB is still in our room in his Snuzpod, he is going into a cot in our room tommorow, we were hoping to have moved house first but that's not happening and we can delay his move to the cot.

amysaurus87 · 31/12/2018 08:16

How long did it take to transition your little ones into cot bed, we've started to do this with my LB as he is now to big for the Snuzpod.

He goes down after his last feed really well, he might stir a bit but nothing the white noise can't fix.

However he is waking up at 1am every morning and even with a feed will not settle back in his cot, so he ends up either in his Snuzpod or in bed with me.

Any tips? I've tied a top of mine to the bars of the cot, slept on the mattress cover so it smells like me, but nothing seems to work.

Alxx · 31/12/2018 13:52

@Amy does he settle ok in the snuzpod at 1am? It might not be for you but I’ve read about putting rolled up towels under the sheet to make it feel more cosy then gradually moving them outwards before eventually taking them out? Also does he have a comforter or anything similar? I don’t have much other advice, my LB took a few nights to get used to it but now he settles great in his big bed because he can wriggle around until he gets comfy.

Hope everyone is having a good first Christmas with their little ones?

@yustynne my LB is pulling himself up loads now, is your LG still? He’s constantly standing at the moment, even in the bath! He loves it but we need eyes in the back of our heads. He’s getting a little bit better at sitting back down without hitting his head but we have had a few knocks.

I’m back to work in 3 weeks and I’m dreading it. I’m having massive mum guilt about leaving him, and I know it’s silly but I’m worried our bond will lessen when we’re not together all the time Sad

Lost this thread for a while!

How are all the April babies doing?

Loosemoose28 · 18/02/2019 01:35

Anyone here pregnant again?
Logged back in to have a meltdown Grin we are doing well. Just now wondering how the hell I cope with two under two and I wean my current boob monster as mentally I know I will not cope tandem feeding.
