morning all!

how is everyone today??

mygirl, i hope your dd4 stopped throwwing up!was she ok after the jabs?

charlee, so sad about your ds! he sounds like he's being a very brave little man though! hope he gets better soon and that he gets some sort of diagnosis.. living in limbo must be so hard right now.. but we're all here for you!

stacey, how was your volunteer? was she helpfull/friendly! sorry you had a bad day.. it's so hard when their both screaming at you! i take 5 minutes out in the garden when that happens.. chill.. then go back in feeling calmer.. sometimes! deep breaths chick!

kaybee, couldn't tell you what i do that makes him sleep through.. my boys just like their sleep! ds1 was the same..

hapycat.. glad your scan went well, must be a load of your mind! i didn't ween ds1 until he was 6 months, but only due to a lack of interest on his part (i did try) he stil has little interest in food and would quite happily live on bread and water and bananas! unfortunately for him i have other ideas (i'm mean, i feed him veggies )

Bethbe · 24/01/2007 11:44

I give Ross one bottle of no.1 formular every night, but it's now not enough. He drinks two (12oz). I asked the HV if I should put him onto no. 2, she said no, and that I really shouldn't be giving him any - Breast is best blah blah blah blah, - so I got no help at all! And it's only for one feed FFS!!

He feeds every 2 - 2.5 hours even through the night the little bloater - whinge whinge whinge.........

Just feeling very unsupported and so thought I'd whinge on here. Hope you don't mind!!!

saralou100 · 24/01/2007 12:37

bethbe, whinge away! i do believe thats what we're here for!!

yes breast is best.. but he's your son, you decide how you want to feed him!

ds1 had the hungry baby formula.. it did him no harm... he went from feeding every 2hrs to 4hrs, it satisfied him whereas the 1st formula didn't.. follow your mummy's instinct.. if you think it's right, do it!!

i'm lucky to have a hv who doesn't intefere, she's lovely, never tells me what i should be doing just supports the decisions i made for my children!

Bethbe im doing the same as you im bf but started giving ds 1 bottle of formula had to move to 2 as it wasnt satisfying him enough. He was the same feeding every 2 hrs,and last nite he slept from 10.30 to 4.30 this morning had a 5 oz bottle then went back to sleep till 6.30 bf him then and at 7.30 then he went till 9.40am.So u do what your instincts tell you he is YOUR baby and you know what is best for him.Has anyone seen my thread for my ds posted fro advice as he is grunting in the morn only in the morn but its got worse today so im taking him to the drs. Will catch up with everyone soon when i get chance to read the thread.

NatalieJane · 25/01/2007 09:37

Charlee, keep going hun, hopefully things will start looking up soon xxx

HC, glad the scan was clear

Bethbe, I agree with everyone else, Ross is your baby, and you are free to do with him what you want, HV's have a list of things they have to say, the good ones take no notice of it, the bad ones will quote the list till their dying day. You know your baby better than someone who sees him for 5 minutes every week/fortnight. The no. 2 formula will do him absolutely no harm, try it, there is nothing to lose.

Well we picked the car up yesterday, we must have been the only people with all the windows open, I hate that smell, so we had to freeze our arses off till we got to the garage and now it smells of sickly sweet bubble gum, a touch better than new car smell!

George has been a bit 'off' for the last 24 hours, his poo has gone really really dark green, and last night he started being sick and has carried on being sick, everytime I pick him up he just throws up all over me, poor thing cried for the first time ever yesterday , he is asleep now but has been awake all night, I rang the HV this morning and she says it is colic I am not convinced, but I will start the colic drops and see whats what.

NatalieJane · 25/01/2007 09:41

Sorry x posts Debbsy, I hope everything is OK at the doctors.

Debbsyandson · 25/01/2007 10:33

Hope george gets better soon nj

Yep, I am sure it isn't colic and is just a bug, DS1 is full of a cold so maybe George is coming down with that and this is just the start of it or something, no one else is ill.

Bloody HV, if I rang saying his head has fallen off she would blame colic....!

...Can you tell my HV reads from the before mentioned list?!!!

Bethbe · 25/01/2007 12:51

Thankd guys!

I will move him onto no. 2. I was going to anyway,- but just wanted reassurance that I wasn't harming him. The question wasn't WHETHER to give him formular, but HOW!

NJ: I hate new car smell to,- makes me feel sick. Only thing worse is those magic trees.

Debs: MY LO sounds similar to yours, only we get max 5 hours (usually not that), but after that very frequent feeds. It drives me mad as I'm never ready to get up for them.

my computer is demented! wrote a nice long message, clicked on post and lost it... so i'm going to smash computer into tiny little pieces... maybe that will remove all viruses.. and ds1 has killed the keyboard

random messag over

feel better soon all you poorly bubba's xx

KaybeeandZak · 25/01/2007 13:13

I was thinking of moving my ds to nbr 2 formula too as he seems very hungry and unsatisfied with what he is getting.... do you have to check with the hv before going ahead or not? Surely he's my baby and i can do what i think is best ( not that i really have any idea)

staceym11 · 25/01/2007 14:04

hi everyone,

mygirls - the homestart visit went well, got a lovely woman who is brill with the kids so takes some of the pressure off!

Well my mum has taken the kids off today so iv got a bit of peace and quiet, lovely to have a peaceful sleep but really odd to not have them.

dd has thrush, which is great fun, poor little mite has got to have cream on her bits for 2 weeks, thankfully its helping her so she isnt too angry about it!

As for feeding your lo's do whatever you think, iv never asked my hv for advice on that, they've tried to shove it on me time and time again but i dont tend to listen much, you will know what is right. keiran is on hungry baby milk as otherwise he feeds every 2 hrs! he seems happy, it hasnt constipated him or anything (which is what the hv said she was worried about, the few times she offered her advice) he is happy content baby, esp now hes on solids!! and finally got my hand blender back from my mum so hes getting home cooked from now on!

NatalieJane · 25/01/2007 14:15

I think re. food be it formula, breast, or solids, the advice is there for a reason, but, every baby is different, what works for one, won't always work for another.

I am breast feeding exclusivly and plan to till at least 6 months because those are the guidelines, but at the end of the day, I will do what is best for George, not what is best for the "average" baby. As it is, even at the size he is, the breast feeding is going so well he doesn't need anything else, but when he does start to look for more, whether that be at 3 months 6 months or 9 months then I will start weaning.

Speaking of the size of him, I am now about to go and order some clothes in 6-9 months, he is squashed up in his 3-6 month sleepsuits already, he is only 7 weeks, it isn't fair I want a little baby for a while!!

saralou100 · 25/01/2007 14:20

know what you mean nj... first words out of everyones mouths when they meet ryan the first time... 'oh, isn't he long!!' well daddy is 6' 5", my boys were never gonna be little!!! i bought 6-9 sleepsuits the other day... just can't bring myself to put him in them, so it's squishy toes for a bit longer (they look soooooooo big )

fatbetty · 25/01/2007 14:34

I have a friend who recently had a baby in the States and the paedriatricians there told her to add baby rice to her formula. When our first child was born (4 years ago!) the midwives were very strict about never doing that. I find it funny! It's just best to go with your instinct. You know your baby best.

I've had some miserable days lately with DS1 and DS2 and I'm about ready to pull my hair out!! I think they have just completely tuned out my voice and never listen to anything I say. I'm sitting here thinking about making up a reward chart but we've tried that before with little success. Argh! Tempted to leave them in their rooms the rest of the day. Bad mummy, bad mummy!!

fatbetty, ds1 also appears to be selecting to not hear me (and so does dp) pita or what!!! and the little s*d always does it when i'm feeding... just looks at me with his big blue eyes, grins and carries on misbehaving!

staceym11 · 25/01/2007 16:08

fatbetty, if you need a chat email me, we seem to be having the same problems atm....if you want to come over next week rather than going out (although going out might tire the boys out and make it easier for you!) thats fine, just let me know, iv had some huge bad days with dd recently, you are a good mum, you'r two brilliant boys and little madelaine (who is absolutely gorgeous!!) chin up girl, you'll be alright, you know my number if you ever need a chat!!!

podglet · 25/01/2007 18:59

Hi all,

I shall have to join the long list of those with poorly babies. DS1 has been miserable for the last few days and this morning cried from 3.30am onwards took him to the Dr who has diagnosed oral thrush (even though his tongue isn't white) and given us both meds to treat it. He slept for 2 hours this afternoon and has just gone to bed after a nice bath so I hope he will be on the mend soon.

Hope every one gets better soon

podglet · 25/01/2007 19:14

DS1??? I only have 1 DS. Am mad, do ignore me

Mummy2TandF · 25/01/2007 20:48

Haven't had time to catch up properly but took dd to be weighed today - 12lbs 6.5oz - she is a little heffer.

fatbetty · 26/01/2007 10:00

podglet, can sympathesise with you on the oral thrush. DD had it when she was in the hospital with bronchlioitis and just screamed and screamed. I think the medicine kicked in right away - so hopefully your LO is getting some relief.

I know I'm not the only one out there with older kids who do not listen. Just feel like I'm on my own at times. However, after a horrible day with them, they were brilliant when it came to putting them to bed. Maybe my patience had returned by that point!

I think I'm losing my mind too! I put the baby aspirator someplace and can't return where. I completely visualise it laying down where I left it, but can't remember where! Argh!! In the meantime, DD snuffles away!
