Morning all

George was weighed yesterday at 8 weeks and 6 days he was 15lb 4oz I confessed all to the HV about the baby rice and she asked if feeding him EBM through a bottle would help HELLO???? What difference does it make where it comes from?? Then she even suggested formula, again what difference would it make, I know she has her job to do and everything else but it pisses me off when people try to tell me what to do for my baby! And then she came up with the most patronising line in the book, "I know it's hard breast feeding but..." I didn't say it was hard, infact it is a hell of a lot easier than spoonfeeding, silly cow!! Grrrr, sorry got it off my chest now!!

Anyway, George had his first injections as well, he screamed when they did it, DS1 didn't make a sound so I sort of wasn't expecting it, then we spent the evening pouring calpol down his throat to try and bring his fever down, he eventually got it under control about 10 o'clock-ish and had a reasonable night even though he was feeling poorly bless him. He cried , it is only the second time he has ever cried and I am affraid I flap, I'm just not used to it, took me a good two minutes (though it seemed like hours!) to get my head round the fact he was crying!! LOL I am wally. He seems fine and back on form this morning, just got to look forward to his second lot of jabs now, it is such a shame for them

His highchair is being delivered today, I must admit I can't wait to have a play, DS1's highchair was one of those that goes from the highchair to a table and chair, but this time I got one that can be either high or low and it reclines and it sings and dances, OK it's not quite that good but I still can't wait to play!! LOL

And after all of the warnings about the snow (we live up on a mountain so we were 'doomed' obviously ) we have had a couple of very light flutterings and it hasn't even settled!

God I am getting synical in my old age.... TC xxx

staceym11 · 08/02/2007 09:49

Well we have lots of snow

Nj george is huge! lol, you're doing a good job!

you never listened to midwives, why you bothering with hv's?

got dds 2 year check today. hv thinks it'll just be ticking all the boxes as shes seen dd enough to know shes fine! lol

NatalieJane · 08/02/2007 09:58

Believe me I only bother with them when I have to, for precisely this reason!

And our snow is starting to stick now, poor DS1 is at school, he will be itching to get out at break, if they let them out, they didn't last time it was snowing 'in case one of the children slipped and hurt themselves' WTF??? Kids fall over everyday and get back up again... sorry I am in a bloody moany mood today, it's because I have to clean the windows and I hate doing it!! LOL

NatalieJane · 08/02/2007 10:03

Sorry just re-read your post, I somehow managed to completely not read the last line of it!! I am sure the HV check will go fine I think all they ever do is tick the boxes, I raised a few points yesterday about George and in his red book not one of them is mentioned.

I am going to get some chocolate, might put a smile on my face!!

saralou100 · 08/02/2007 10:24

snow?? whats that then?? we have a beautiful blue sky down here in sunny dorset! might even go to the beach later (ok thats a bit extreme, its very very very cold out their!! )

bloody tax credits people... why do they not listen... i told them about changes to dp's income and they've written a completely random number down and my income is wrong aswell, they seem to think were getting paid more than we atually are, so i have to phone them again now - joy.

nj, i've said it before and i'll say it again... george is huuuuuge! you definitely win the award for having the best mummy milk!

mil has been down for the last 2 days and we all had a lovely time! she's a photographer and bought her work camera and studio with her, she took some lovely shots.. but it was hectic! ds1 managed to pull the screen down on top of me and ryan.. he also was very difficult to keep still and refused to pose! the dog was also a pain and refused to sit for his photo and also tried puling the screen down on us all! i couldn't stop laughing either! and dp... well he's just uncomfortable!

NatalieJane · 08/02/2007 10:39

LOL I don't know about the best mummy milk, but George can probably claim the biggest belly on a baby you ever saw award!!

Right, I really must start the windows....

KaybeeandZak · 08/02/2007 12:43

You are so lucky NJ that George never cries, if only that were true for Zak!

Debsy, he is having about 160mls (5oz) 5 or 6 times a day....... And it's hungry baby formula! We started on that to try to get him to last longer between feeds

saralou100 · 08/02/2007 13:01

poor kaybee xx (((hug)))

my nephew used to scream whenever he had the bottle taken out of his mouth... i think he had reflux.. trouble was they had to take the bottle out regularly to wind him so he wouldn't projectile vomit everywhere! i have no suggestions for you.. i'll ask sis what helped her (if anything did help!) my nephew is one happy little dude now though (getting very cheeky too ) no longer the miserable little s*d he was, if that helps at all ?

Debbsyandson · 08/02/2007 13:08

kaybee i had this i put him upto 6ozs then seems more satisfied now,i stop breast feeding on sun not an easy decision ive had to make but best for me and him.

saralou100 · 08/02/2007 13:12

debbsy, have a hug too then (((hug))) it's horrible making that final decision!

KaybeeandZak · 08/02/2007 13:31

Thanks Saralou

And hugs to you Debsy. I stopped bf when he was about 4 weeks as he was never satisfied with that either. I don't think it's the quantity of food thats the problem, he just wants to drink and drink and even when he is so full he is throwing up he wants to drink at the same time!!

Debbsyandson · 08/02/2007 13:38

Thanks Saralou
Have you tried him with water? my friend told me to give ds a couple of ozs a day to quench his thirst as he is feeding from me all the time till about 10pm then he has a bottle of formula and settles more,i gave him water yesterday and you wanted to see him guzzle it down,as long as you dont replace it with food they are ok with water i think.I symathise though as im going through the same thing.xx

saralou100 · 08/02/2007 13:42

i'm assuming that you've gone down the dummy route? does he have one?

ryan will not have a dummy, but he does like to suck in order to go to sleep.. if you take the bottle out too soon it wakes him and he gets all flustered!

maybe zak just likes his grub? and doesn't want it to end (you know, when your eating something really tasty and you carry on way past the point of being full up.. if that is true, expains my nephews eating habits... the child don't stop eating and will eat anything ( i'm , ds1 doesn't do eating very well )

my girl dd is 24lb and she is 27 month! lol

NatalieJane · 08/02/2007 16:49

Yes he is huge it is confirmed, his high chair has arrived obviously checked out he was going to be safe in it, tried to do the straps up, couldn't, I have had to put them through the higher lot of slots on the back, this high chair isn't supposed to be suitable until 6 months, and he is already bigger than the first setting!!

I don't get why he is so huge, he doesn't actually eat that much, and I know I said about the biggest belly, he is fat but in a baby way, if you know what I mean? It isn't as though he can barely move his arms and legs for rolls of fat or anything. I did again ask the HV if we should be worried about him putting it on so quickly, and she said absolutely not, I can't not feed him to stop him growing!! Comparing with DS1, he was 15lb spot on at 13 weeks, so 5 weeks older than George, but George was a lot bigger at birth than DS1, by the time DS1 was 8 weeks he'd put on just under 5lb, George has put on just under 7lb in nearly 9 weeks. Is that that much difference?

I know a good HV is hard to find, and I do take most of they say and rubbish it, but it still pisses me off when they are that rigid, what if I had have a question re. weaning? I don't think she'd have said anything helpful to me about it, which I think is worse than anything I feed him! Grrrr again!!

staceym11 · 08/02/2007 17:28

oh NJ hes not huge hes just right! lol, you have great mummy milk and a big boy, thats all, nothing wrong with that! lol

as for high chair glad it arrived and you got to play with it!

podglet · 08/02/2007 17:29

Debbsy - have a hug from me too (((hug))) it can't be an easy decision for you and you must be feeling sad but your DS is thriving and you have to do what makes you happy - being a sad mummy isn't fun - I know, i was a sad mummy for a little while until I started on my vitamins and omega 3.

we are still waking every 2 hours in the night, which is tiring but he is happy in himself and feeding well so I suspect a lengthy growth spurt.

We saw my friend's twins yesterday who are nearly 1. Her dd thought DS was a doll and kept trying to cuddle him and give him "cups of tea" from her tea set, like she was doing with her teddies - very cute!

saralou100 · 08/02/2007 21:02

nj, i hope you haven't taken any offence by us saying he's huge? you should be so proud of yourself! he sounds like he's a happy contented little dude, who's just very good at growing!

mygirl, i've got dp's book here... he was 22lb at 7months! it's quite funny reading it! in fact, i've just looked and at 9wks he was 15lb 6oz, he's 6ft5, so nj george is probably gonna grow to be a big strong lad and thats the way he's supposed to be.

tell me to shut up.. i'm waffling (and bored !)

NatalieJane · 08/02/2007 21:10

No, no offence taken at all!! I suppose just sometimes when I have the time to think about the size of him, I just get carried away with thoughts of all these reports of obese kids and things, how daft is that at 9 weeks?!!! LOL I have too much time on my hands for thinking!!

As much as HV's are almost completely useless, if she isn't worried, I'm not.

Crimewatch is calling, in fact a cuddle on the couch with my biggest boy (that would be DH!!!) is calling G'night xxx

Debbsyandson · 08/02/2007 21:22

NJ give yourself a pat on the back you are doing so well
Podgelet 2 hrs? i had that you must be exhausted thats why im quitting as im only off for 6 mths with him i want to make the most of our time and not be catching up on sleep and too knackered to go anywhere.Even though my hv said some mothers wouldnt mind being tired all the time, well there is tired and there is tired, she really got my back up cheeky cow i felt like saying and did you bf at all with your children then!! but she did make me feel like i was failing ds a little, but i know my son and he is more settled and happier on bottles and if hes happy kim ecstatic .
So you have a hug too ((hug)) 2 hrs blimey how long has that been going on for?
im off to watch crimewatch too now ds asleep

staceym11 · 09/02/2007 08:46

NJ, you can't make you ds obese by bf him!! you're doing exactly the right things, hes a big strong lad, don't worry!!! lol

well ds still isnt sleeping through, but we stopped his solids coz he went off milk, so i know he'll sleep through when he's on solids so i can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

debbsy, dont worry what anyone says, its whats right for you and your ds, keiran was bf for 24hrs but i panicked i didnt know what he was taking. when he went on to bottles they worked out he wasn't eating enough etc. due to jaundice so i had to wake to feed (and force feed which was horrible) so he didnt end up tube fed. if i'd still been bf i dont think they'd have noticed till they next weighed him which was at 12 days!!!

anyway, sometimes you know better than they do! acctually thats normally most the time!

podglet · 09/02/2007 08:51

Thanks Debs it has been going on for a week now - getting beyond funny! Last night he went down at 8, then didn't wake until 1.30 am which was brill, then it was 4, 5 and 6.30 he's asleep now, and I would be too but I am waiting for the Tesco man to deliver my shopping as supermakets are too much like hard work. He is so content though, during the day he only has about 3 one hour sleeps so I have no idea how to resolve it. I do make sure he has a good feed in the night too rather than just a few sucks and then nodding off again. Any ideas anyone?

All the snow has gone already here and we are left with nasty ice.
