Well I just attempted project nap...

Saw a few yawns and with rocking she was not going to sleep. So I decide to take her to the nursery (her shoebox of a room which she's not using yet-just for nappy changes). Put her in her cot with dummy and within 5mins she's eyes shut. I was going to sit with her but thought sod this I'm getting in the shower...
So I got out of the shower and she was still semi sleepy but jumpy with eyes shut. Went to moisturise and dummy obviously had fallen out as there were murmers. Put it back in and took the washing out of the machine, came back into check and she's still sleepy but not asleep. Dummy still in. She's definitely on her way. So I'm in two minds, do I remove dummy and see whether she'll stay or keep it in until she proper falls asleep...well she made that decision dummy fell out and she was WIDE AWAKE and looking so miserable. Oh how she teases me!!

Still a good start?! We're now back on the sofa, she's on the boob and farting like a trooper to which she keeps de latching and smiling, gross x

Oh fanby she is beautiful. Aidan is a big fan of the teasing over nap time. He loves to do the sleepy tired eyes content baby in cot until I do something then wide awake baby is back. However today, randomly he is napping off me and on our bed. He never does the whole fall asleep, nap time is now, so this is such a surprise

Totally impractical nails for a mother of 6 but can't live without them Grin

fanby another example of my confessions - take my baby to the nail salon and don't even consider the fumes - guess they do no harm as taken all babies through the years!! Molly just gorgeous in her cot by the way .

fatty yet another confession - probably scratched many a baby and child over the years - you actually get used to them.

giraffe I favour noise when baby is around - can't avoid it my house - baby can sleep through Hoover, DCs screaming and jumping around, TV full blast - maybe she can't sleep all night as its too quietGrin

kbro too cute

Fanby · 28/10/2015 15:00

Thanks Kbro - Aidan looks super snuggly on your bed! Hope it was a good nap. I'm going to miss putting molly on our bed once she rolls - although I think we're a long way from that at the mo!

Gorge nails love! You're not a bad mother at all lol! I used to always do my own nails, I never have them long but I love painting them! I have a ridiculous amount of polish which I miss using lol.

Thank for the cakey fatty! Looks deeeeeelisb! I bet he's happy with it!!

I still haven't left the flat, we're running low on milk and was going to pick up a pumpkin but to be honest I don't think I can be bothered now, I know I should go out though , I bet I don't lol. So indecisive nowadays...

Lovely cake fatty HAPPY BIRTHDAY Alex - hope you're all having a great dayCake

Lilydreams · 28/10/2015 17:22

Mugabe Augmums! Going to read and post in a min but first who was it who said they had an ergo???!! Help me!

Just attempted to put it on to brave a dog walk without DH as he is working long days this week and an hour and a half later I'm still not happy with DS's position in it so have given up as its now dark and can't take the dogs out in case of fireworks! 2nd day in a row they've not been Help me!!!! I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I've been on YouTube and watched videos and everything but DS keeps ending up face planting on my chest and I'm terrified of him smothering! It was ok when he was awake as he held his head up but the minute he fell asleep he flopped forward and face smushed! He did initially have his head turned to the side but then moved and face planted! Also my back is now freaking killing me and everything I've read says how comfy they are and can carry them up to at least double his current weight!!! I don't get it!!!

Clstow · 28/10/2015 17:38

I have an ergo! Use it for hours some days and never get back ache. DS does bury his head in to my chest but smothering not a risk as he's high up on the bony chest bit, not soft boobs. You should be able to kiss the top of his head when he's in there so he should be quite high with all the straps quite tight... Are you using the newborn insert with the cushion? Can you send a pic of how it's fitting?

Soo happy to be back in London! Went with two (baby-free) friends to the Tate Modern today and just had such a lovely time. Love being away but love being home as well IYKWIM.

I still love getting my nails done Love - looking good by the way Grin I hadn't considered the fumes either Halloween Blush and have to justify the expense to OH but it makes me happy to have good nails and happy mummy = happy baby haha.

Am soo impressed with everyone's progress on Project Nap. I need to bite the bullet and work on things here as well, will give the pushchair another go tomorrow.

Happy birthday to Alex Fatty, hope he (and you) enjoy the cake.

Loving the lovely baby pics, keep them coming ladies!

mzzzf · 28/10/2015 17:43

Lily have you got the waist/hip belt in the right position?!
Face planting is ok, mini mzzzf favours that position!
Are you using the insert or the sleep hood etc?!
If he was able to have his head up but then face plant when sleeping and have lots of room it sounds like it might not be tight enough or he might not be high enough. His head needs to be above your cleavage.

Post a pic of you can. With a teddy in it if Ds won't play ball again

teddybearsbear · 28/10/2015 17:44

Lovely blanket kbro I don't think you can beat hand knitted /crochet

Fab nails as well love and smiles I managed to paint mine for the first time since ds was born last week thanks to some quick dry top coat

My dh brought up the subject of baby number 2 last night! Anyone else thinking about it? It seems so soon since ds was born but we don't want a big age gap and we would ideally like 3. I am 32 so don't want to wait too long but I am just starting to feel normal again after the chaos of the first few weeks I don't know if I could imagine doing it again so soon plus I am breastfeeding so don't know if I could.

mzzzf · 28/10/2015 17:45

Clstow - the travel cot arrived today so project nap starts in earnest once the snot has cleared up a bit! Saying that though she almost ALMOST fell asleep in her bouncy chair this afternoon and I've never seen her do that before. But she kept fighting it, then scared the crap out of herself with a startle that made the bouncer rock a bit more than she was expecting! Hahaha!!!

Mugabe!
Just grabbing a quick 5 mins before ds wakes up. We've had a really busy day with dn visiting family. Ds was introduced to his second cousins and was delightfully charming and seems to enjoy being passed around everyone.

I have a question about poo! How glamorous is this parenting lark! How often do your breastfed babies poo? Ds was a few times a day, but he's completely slowed down and hasn't actually had a poo now since the posh leggings poonami a few days ago. I know it's pretty normal for bf babies to go only every few days, but I just thought I'd check if anyone else has had a change like this? I'm getting through much fewer nappies, but I'm starting to dread what will happen when he finally goes. He seems fine in himself, so I doubt he's constipated yet.
We're going to a funeral tomorrow. My money is on another poonami then.

Sweet potato chips are indeed awesome loves. The Iceland ones are pretty decent for freezer stuff. I read the other day tha maccy d's are going to start selling them. Mmmmmmm Smile
Your nails look great.

rrra ds makes loads of noise in his sleep. I was initially picking him up every time he stirred so I could get him latched on before he started crying. Now I've figured that a lot of the time he will just go back to sleep. I don't pick him up until he's wailing now.

Poor mini mzzf. Get better soon. We have been lucky enough to avoid colds so far. I'm really dreading the first one.

fanby, dn is 8 and has barely stopped talking to take a breath since she started. She is a little poppet and is very keen to help me with Ds.
She looks super adorable in those pictures! Her sad face is proper heartbreaking. I bet she will get away with loads by pulling that in the future!

effin, I hope the insomnia fucks off for you. What a shitty thing to have with a new baby.
I seem to only get stuff done on the days where ds has good, long naps. When he doesn't I barely manage to get dressed. If your ds is only sleeping for 45 mins at a time then I'm amazed you manage to shower, let alone do anything else.

I love that your cat changes his friends each season magrat! Very sweet! Are you 100% sure he is a boy? My friend's boy cat surprised everyone by having two kittens last month Smile

Happy birthday Alex! I hope you're having a great day fatty.

lily, we have an ergo. Ds is kind of face planted into the top of my chest with it as well. Or sometimes he turns his head sideways. I've never felt like he might suffocate and he seems quite comfy in it.
Like clstow said, he should be high enough to kiss. I've never had back ache from mine either. If you post a pic we might be able to figure it out.

Well done everyone who is having success with project nap. We've had a few drives today, so Ds has slept well. I do need to crack getting him down for longer in the day without having to go out with the pram, especially before we get into proper winter weather.

We're not sure if we'll have another one teddy. I'm torn between worrying about him being an only child and never, ever wanting to be pregnant again. We also couldn't afford 2 lots of childcare, so will have to wait until ds is in school. I'll be knocking 40 by then, so who knows if we'll even be able to.

Lilydreams · 28/10/2015 18:04

Tindel- I wouldn't worry about the advice too much DS hS been upstairs in an evening for a good few weeks and was only 3 months yesterday! He was getting far too upset being woken by chatting/ the TV etc it was worth it. Plus I ran it by my HV and she was happy with it. I know lots of people that have put baby in their own room well before 6 months (one from a few days old) as they were such noisy sleepers no one was getting any sleep! Like others have said its about weighting up the risks.

Loves- the Mac and cheese was only posh because we were in a restaurant! I dont go about cooking lobster at home! Love the nails! I agree with others though I had to cut all my nails off when DS was born as I kept scratching the poor thing! Jealous of yours!

Fanby- give the lasinoh a try on cradle cap you never know! It's certainly not going to do any harm! How was your day? We ended up not going out anywhere thanks to the weather in the first half of the day and then the ergo failure! That said I've been busy pottering so I haven't ended up miserable thankfully!

Yes to baby crying out in the night!! He usually does it a few times before finally waking for a feed but last night was ridiculous- from 0115 it was every 20 minutes until 0330 when he fed (a meagre 2.5 ozs- argh drop the feed already!!) and then from 0430 till 0600!! Needless to say I was pigging tired today! Thought I'd have me s nap when he has his long afternoon nap- he only switched it round and did 2 and a quarter hours this morning instead!! As I thought he would only have his usual 30 mins I missed out!! He like to keep me on my toes clearly!

Happy birthday to Alex- cake looks amazing- we're near Wigan!!

Mzzf- how did LOs cold start? DS seems very snorty today and is snoring when sleeping! Has been a little whingier than usual too! Hoping he's not coming down with one!

Fanby that's defo a good start to project nap!

teddybearsbear · 28/10/2015 18:07

Frolic- my ds is breastfed and at about 9 weeks he just stopped pooing he didn't go for four days but seemed fine in himself and the hv didn't seem concerned then he did a huge one and it was another four days before anything else! it slowly came back tho and he is now going about every other day apparently it's normal for them to go through phases like that!

Lilydreams · 28/10/2015 18:23

Clstow, mzzf and frolic thanks for the quick reply! I don't really have cleavage so to speak of so its not that that would smother him- maybe I'm just paranoid! I will post a pic a bit later- just fed him so will give it a while as can guarantee I will get sicked on otherwise!! Grin I must be doing something wrong if it's hurting then! Unless it was all the twisting around I was doing to try to get it right! lol! Oh and yes using the infant insert by the way but with legs out as they won't fit in anymore!

Teddy Shock at thinking about number 2 already!! We have talked about it and DH has changed his mind from only wanting 1 to wanting another since DS arrived and charmed him! I swore I wouldn't do it again when pregnant as I didn't particularly enjoy it but i miss it now and my labour was so easy I can definately do that again! I think we'll probably have a 3 or 4 year age gap as I want to work part time till DS is about 2 and then I want to change jobs so will need to do a year in the new one to get mat leave! That's the plan anyway! Plenty of people have them back to back though- I was talking to someone yesterday who went back after mat leave for her first already pregnant with her second!

Frolic I love me some sweet pot fries I will have to seek them out in Iceland this weekend! I was reading that about mcDs too yum!! Never works when I makey own- think they need a proper fryer!

mzzzf · 28/10/2015 18:24

Lily - it was an increase in sneezes, then a runny nose and being very sleepy. Much like when adults get colds really. It's shitty though when LOs are ill.

I went o mums and tots again this morning. DD spends the first part watching the toddlers and other babies with big saucer like eyes then she conks out from the excitement of it all Grin I'm slowly getting to know the other mums. It's hard as they a couple of years younger than me and the ones who have babies are one their second one so aren't as freaked out by baby land as me. I absolutely HATE the feeling that we started late with the baby stuff because it's not like I'm ancient (34!) but I have to keep reminding myself that these women are uber SAHMs and traditional army wives. I do not fit into the stereotype at all!! Thank god!

That cake looks bloody amazing Fatty - giz a spoon!

EffinIneffable · 28/10/2015 19:24

Well after a textbook crib nap this morning it all went to shit and DS slept for about two stretches of 20 mins all afternoon, despite strategic deployment of sling! Don't know what to do when even that doesn't work! Cue major meltdown this evening. Think he might be having a leap as he's started trying to grasp things, and eventually conked out on my lap clutching my finger. Sweet, but how am I supposed to use my phone?!

Frolic yes about 8 weeks ds went from pooing at every feed to holding it for about five days. We now have a day of stinky farts and a day of poo. Stand back when they come! Or put DH on nappy duty.

That is a great cake fatty. Lucky Alex!

I had a go on my friend's ergo. Was ok but found it nearly impossible to do up behind me. Also have quite narrow shoulders and it never felt very secure and pulled on my back because I couldn't do it up tightly enough. I'm trying a manduca sling now that crosses over at the back, which is better for me. But in both ds face planted. As long as he's high up enough and you can see his airway is clear its fine.

Teddy, number two, what now? I've been telling ds he's gonna be an only. I would have liked two but just not sure I could do this again.

Fanby that is definitely nap progress. Anything that doesn't involve roaring protest is good in my book.

Nice one on bedtime kbro, and sneaky bed nap. Bedtime here generally takes well over an hour - lots of feeding, dummy, often a couple of transfers before success - so you're doing great with an hour!

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 28/10/2015 20:38

Mugabe Augums,

Sorry been awol for a couple of days but ds has been having major sleep regression so I've been exhausted. Like Frolic he only goes for a poo every 3 days so I think he gets uncomfy after a couple of days and can't get back to sleep after the 3/4am feed.

We had friends over for a play date today which was lovely with the grey and miserable weather.

Hope Alex has had a great birthday Fatty. Lovely cake!

Mzzzf, well done for taking the plunge with the mum friends. I have found that age becomes irrelevant and now have a lovely group who are all different ages. You bond over your babies regardless of what age you are. I am one of the oldest in my friendship group and have taken on a bit of a hosting role where they come to mine for coffee and cake which is lovely.

Loves, your nails are amazing. I had to cut mine after DD was born as I couldn't do nappies with long nails!

Fanby and Kbro, your children are just gorgeous. We do have some cures kids on this thread.

Right, I'm off to have some dinner and a sneaky glass of red Grin

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 28/10/2015 20:39

Cute not cures obviously!

mzzzf · 28/10/2015 20:39

Arrrrrrggghh!!! I was desperate for a poo so transferred mini mzzzf from sling to travel cot for my mad dash. She was asleep in the sling but I half expected her to wake up on transferring BUT she's asleep and still asleep now 15mins later!! WTF?!!!!
I feel weird, nervous and excited. Dh and I just did a jumpy hug thing around the dining room Grin
Not expecting it to last but even a 20min nap is good!

OP posts:
Frolicacid · 28/10/2015 20:52

Thanks for the poo advice! He is 9 weeks tomorrow, so bang in line with your experiences teddy and effin.
We've had stinky farts all day today. He's going to shit all over some old dear at the wake tomorrow, isn't he? Do you think that leakage could be minimised if I get some tights to put under his trousers? Cling film over his nappy maybe? Wink

Well done for braving baby clubs mzzf. That's my plan for next week. I also feel old sometimes at 35. The majority of new mum's around here seem To be about 20 Confused.

We're just about to watch last night's catastrophe. Ds is conked out on my lap - Fingers crossed he stays that way.

Clstow · 28/10/2015 21:01

Hurrah for poo desperation leading to good sleep. I swear someone else - maybe Fatty? - also discovered their LO could nap when they needed the loo... Maybe we should all start eating more food that'll get our bowels moving Halloween Hmm

No second child plans here... I kind of always thought I might only have one and now I've been through labour and the first few weeks I just don't think I could do it again.

Sleep regression already Nolonger? You definitely deserve several glasses of wine. Hope you get some more sleep tonight.

Yep DSs poos have gone from regular to random - and massive. When they come now it usually means a full outfit change, it's like a tidal wave of curry sauce!

Just feeding DS to sleep now, he's been so cross the last hour and I reckon he might be up for an earlier bedtime - probably because of the clocks changing. Going to see if we can get him down earlier tomorrow and see if we can reclaim more of our evening.

Lilydreams · 28/10/2015 21:09

Ok ergo baby experts pics attached (not very good ones!) I did somehow feel comfier this time though- I tightened the back strap more. Maybe I just need practice! It seems to fit differently everytime k put it on! He was awake so smothering wasn't an issue again but the position he was in I can imagine he would face plant again if he fell asleep? Maybe I am just paranoid?!

Lilydreams · 28/10/2015 21:10
