My DC2 was born on 5th August and I'm up in the wee hours feeding away. Anyone else with their August babies care to join me?

I still can't believe he's here and in my arms!

Fanby yey for the good sleep. I got a reusable swim nappy from bambino mio and then a normal swim costume on top. She did poop in it the first time I used it but only a little bit. Tbh I prob wouldn't recommend it. Best to get disposable swim nappy I reckon. It did seem to contain it but I think if it was a lot of poo 'im not sure it would.

Mzzf my dd does that with the one good sleep then fussed the rest of the night. It's most frustrating.

Fatty that's great that you're working it all out. Sounds like a perfect set up.

Effin I've got little lambs but have only tried them twice so far. Nearly at the end of my size 1 disposable supply so will start using them properly then. Bit worried about the extra work I'm creating but will give it a go. I never even look at the line on the disposables anyway. Just change her when I realise I've not done it for ages. Hope the little lambs are as good at holding her wee because I don't change her overnight if she's not dirty.

Dozygirl · 12/10/2015 15:54

Oh and go you doing your PhD. I still have one module left at uni to complete degree in neonatal nursing and I can't be arsed doing it. Was gonna start it in January but I bet I don't want to start it then either. Wish I'd finished it when I was supposed to bu I went through a rough time a few years back and I put it on hold and then struggled to pick it back up again.

mzzzf · 12/10/2015 22:03

Balls - I'm coming down with a cold. Itchy runny nose and feeling woolly - bleurghhh!

Worse though is that I think mini mzzzf might be too. She looks a bit off colour today, was quieter than usual and has done way more poos than usual, coupled with a few little coughs thrown in for good measure Sad

I'm guessing if I have something anyway it won't be long until she does... All baby cold management/treatment advice appreciated!!

FattyNinjaOwl · 12/10/2015 22:06

In bouncer in bathroom with shower running for steam.
Snot sucker
Snufflebabe
Lots of cuddles.

Joskar · 12/10/2015 22:09

We use Little Lambs two part nappies with both girls. I'm using disposable at night at the moment. Disposable is easier to change in the dark and I can't risk waking dd1. I've always found washable so better for containing the poo. Much more likely to get a shitastrophe with disposable. I do change every two hours though because pee can be uncomfortable for them. It is a bit more work but not much and saves money and landfill. I'm glad we did it.

Effin, no bugger has a clue what they're doing. You just bumble on and eventually you get better at not giving a rat's bahookie what anyone else thinks.

Fatty, I'm so sorry about your dog. He looks lovely.

Clstow · 12/10/2015 22:59

Well project nap was a massive failure... DS was so not interested in sleeping in his Moses basket in the day so it was back to the trusty sling, then later he managed a whole 20 mins in his car seat which is better than last week but nothing like the proper naps he used to do in it. Grrr.

Does anyone else have the Quinny Buzz travel system? We got it second hand off my bro so no instructions and I have a couple of questions...

Think I'm getting poorly as well Mzzzf. I recommend saline spray for tiny snotty noses. There's normally loads of lurgy going round as the seasons change and it definitely felt much more autumnal today. Better dig out my winter coat.

Can't remember who asked but we use a gro-bag in the Moses basket. The excess material just bunches up at the end - DS can't wriggle down coz of the arm holes so there's no worries there.

The last 3 nights DS has gone down around 9:30. It's amazing having even a small portion of the evening back. Managed to do my nails for the first time in ages which has made me one happy lass. Simple pleasures!

mzzzf · 12/10/2015 23:03

Thanks fatty! Will have to google a snuffle babe though.
Satan looks adorable (not a phrase used before!!) so sorry he's gone.
And whoever said it up thread, even in dream land, let's do a dog walk with gin, cake and GIN!!

FattyNinjaOwl · 13/10/2015 00:48

Snufflebabe = baby Vicks I think it's only suitable from 12 weeks though.
I found saline spray just made the snot runnier and they would end up breathing it in and getting mucus on their chest. I was told by GP not to bother with it. But it worked for my friends baby so always worth a try.
There's olbas oil for babies too. Put a couple of drops in a bowl of hot water at night and leave over the radiator in the room baby sleeps.

Can you tell we get a lot of colds? Grin

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 13/10/2015 00:50

Mzzzf, it's just like Vicks for babies. Great stuff and lasts ages.

I have terrible insomnia tonight. Both kids and DH fast asleep and I am wide awake! Soo annoying!

Mil has the heating on at night though so am boiling too.

Hope no one does get poorly. It's horrid when you still have to do everything but feel rough Flowers

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 13/10/2015 00:52

X post Fatty! Sorry to hear about your dog btw. We lost ours when I was just pregnant with DD and it is heartbreaking. She'd have loved the kids x

I currently have DS1 in bed with me. He was really upset earlier. I don't know why. I think he's feeling unwell but won't tell me as he doesn't like being off school. Poor thing. So I'm snuggled up with him. It's mad because he is so big compared to the other two, and with being nearly 7, he can't possibly be seen to show mum too much affection in public, but when he snuggles up in my bed and I get squidges, it reminds me he is still little. He's still my baby. I will hold on to these moments when he's a teen and being an arse Wink Grin

FattyNinjaOwl · 13/10/2015 00:58

nolonger its awful isnt it. My older two adored him. He was old though, and his legs went. Poor thing. It wasn't fair on him to keep him alive. He was my fluffy rugdog. Grin
Which is why we now have a kitten. I'm not ready emotionally for another dog yet, so kitten it was. It's mad how attached you become to animals.

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 13/10/2015 01:23

So awful. Ours had bone cancer so I know what you mean about it being crueller to keep them alive. We have nothing at the moment but will get another dog in a couple of years.

Hope your DS feels better soon. My 2 year old already feels massive next to DS!

EffinIneffable · 13/10/2015 09:22

No posts overnight? Must be because everyone has had a beautiful uninterrupted full night's sleep Wink. We didn't do too badly, waking at 1 and 5 and then 7 which I think was due to a soaked nappy (slacker mummy here didn't bother changing overnight...)

I've got a trial pack of cloth nappies from a volunteer nappy library with lots of different brands. So far we've tried tots bots and a few others in daytime only, but I think ds can feel the wetness quicker and gets grumpy , and several have leaked round the legs so not sure whether I can be bothered to continue. We might come back to them later. I haven't tried the little lambs yet so might give them a go.

Hope the cold passes quickly mzzzf that doesn't sound fun.

dozy it's hard to get back into the study groove isn't it? Especially when you've got plenty of other things on your plate. But only one module to go - you're so close! But it needs to be the right time for you.

clstow is there anywhere else your dc can sleep for naps? We found the moses basket a total disaster zone after the first couple of weeks when he would sleep anywhere. Now we do get some naps in the crib upstairs. With blackout blinds and white noise going.

We have two cats. Dh is desperate to move ds into his own room as soon as possible so they can come back on to the bed. I hope they don't get too pissed off when ds gets mobile. Sorry fatty and nolonger to hear about your dogs. These animals really are part of the family too aren't they. Your dog was gorgeous fatty.

Fanby · 13/10/2015 09:37

Not a bad night here, asleep by 10:30 which is a bit later than usual, then feeds at 2ish, 6ish and up from 8! Happy days!

Thanks dozy! We have some of those disposables and I think I'll get one of the happy nappies from ebay if I can.

Hope you're feeling better mzzzf and LO. Molly is the same plus a few others from our NCT group, sneezy, coughy, extra poo's and more of the green mossy variety too...

Clstow - well done on doing the nails, I'm seriously hoping to do mine by the end of the week, might even attempt to go somewhere for shellac! Always hated it but like the idea of it not chipping!

sianihedgehog · 13/10/2015 09:44

effinIneffable my cats are still in with us. They don't like the unpredictable thrashing and vomiting that Fergus does, so they just stay clear of him. I occasionally end up with a cat wedged into my lap while I'm feeding him, mind. They really miss getting to cuddle with me.

I've been trying Little Bloom eBay cheap cloth nappies - I reckon with how many nappies we go through in a day there's no way I could afford more expensive ones. Going to make a proper attempt at cloth once Fergus outgrows size 3.

sianihedgehog · 13/10/2015 09:46

Oh, and it was another shit night here. Pretty sure Fergus is not going into really deep sleep because he's cold, so he's weeing every 45 minutes and waking up. Going to put an extra layer on him tonight and tell the grobag guidelines to piss off.

Frolicacid · 13/10/2015 10:05

Morning all!
We had a good day yesterday taking ds to see his granny and great granny. He was on good form, smiling, laughing and charming them both. He also slept through both 2 hour journeys thank god. And he slept pretty well last night Smile

I cut ds' nails with my small scissors the other day. They are a bit sharp, but got it done very quickly.

I have some cloth nappies to try. They're bambino mio I think. My friend used them for her daughter and loved them. They are quite old but look in good nick

Well done on the long dog walk mzzf. The sling really helps I find.

Satan like a lovely dog fatty. I'm sorry for your loss. We lost frolicdog's sister last summer and it still breaks my heart.

I also have a turboboob effin. My let down on the left is super fast, so lazy little ds prefers to go right. He likes to recline on the feeding cushion and take his milk in a leisurely fashion. Let's hope we don't end up lopsided! Your mum sounds fab.

Frolicacid · 13/10/2015 10:12

Whoops! Pressed post to soon.

I've not tried the cloth nappies yet as we have been given so many packs of disposables to get through first.

I hope your visit to your old child minder went well fanby.

I hope your colds have improved over night mzzf and clstow.
Mugabe a good day everyone. We don't have any plans until this afternoon so are enjoying a lazy snuggly morning in bed Smile

Frolicacid · 13/10/2015 10:13

Mugabe??? That should say have!!

Fanby · 13/10/2015 10:18

Good typo frolic lol!

We're the same, no plans this morning, I'm determined to finish doctor foster then I'm going to meet a friends after she finishes work this afternoon woohoo x

Dozygirl · 13/10/2015 10:20

A good night for me. 7 hours sleep. I woke before dd did. She's snotty today so I guess she's finally caught the colds that me and dp have had. She seems ok in herself though.
I've still got toothache. Dentist yesterday filled up the hole but that's hasn't fixed the problem. I'm guessing I have an infection seeing as the pain is constant but he didn't seem to take notice when I told him that yesterday.

Fatty glad to hear your ds still enjoys his mummy cuddles. You're definitely right about treasuring them while you can.

FattyNinjaOwl · 13/10/2015 10:22

I was meant to go shopping this morning. But I'm feeling rough, so I ohibed DP at 7 to come and do the school run while I went back to bed. He's still not back. I'm hoping he's gone shopping for me. Grin

Clstow · 13/10/2015 10:48

Mugabe good day is my new favourite phrase Grin

Yeah I'm thinking about trying to get DS to nap in his cotbed Effin but it's not very accessible at the mo as there's piles of maternity clothes and pregnancy stuff on it that I keep meaning to sell on. We live in a tiny flat so feel like I'm constantly just moving stuff around.

We had another good night with DS waking for one MEGA feed at 3. He fed for an hour which he's not done for ages. Guess he was tanking up though as he went back down till 9 which is fine by me.

Worryingly he's not had a poo since Friday, so I'm guessing when it comes it's gonna be a tidal wave of mustard. Not looking forward to that.

Enjoy your lazy mornings everyone, we're having a quiet one too. Off to meet a friend in central London later so saving my energy for that.
