My DC2 was born on 5th August and I'm up in the wee hours feeding away. Anyone else with their August babies care to join me?

I still can't believe he's here and in my arms!

I'm up for it. I need to lose 3 stone to be back to pre Nathan weight and a further 2 stone to get back to pre DD weight!

mzzzf · 10/10/2015 13:55

Gooooood morning Vietnam!! Grin Guess who had a 2hr nap - moi!

Ridiculous really as I'm still massively sleep deprived but 2 solid hours has helped. I tagged do in at 7am this morning after mini mzzzf totted up an impressive 12 wakes during the night. Annoyingly though dh let her sleep through another feed this morning so she's off kilter again - joy!! Saying that though she does have her own rhythm so just gotta roll with the punches eh?!

Right ladies - re the napping. Where do they sleep and are they on their own?! Mini mzzzf naps on us during the day, rendering whoever is the 'mattress' useless. I'd love to put her down in her cot to sleep but I thought they weren't meant to sleep alone for the first 6 months... Ahhh naps/sleep advice are so confusing! Are you guys using travel costs or different rooms and a monitor?! I'd worry I'd be up and down the stairs 50 times during her naps to check she was alive, hmmmm could be good for shifty the cake off my bum though!!

Yes for eating better but if I need chocolate I'm going to have it just need to do squats/stair climbs to make up for it!! I might do a squat challenge next week instead actually Grin. Grrrrr another reasons to get DD napping so that I can make and eat good food instead of grabbing one handed easy food like biscuits!

FattyNinjaOwl · 10/10/2015 14:29

mzzzf DS sleeps in his pram during the day, or on the playmat on the floor if DD is behaving herself. Or on me if I can't be arsed doing busy work Wink Grin

sianihedgehog · 10/10/2015 14:52

mzzf Fergus sleeps in the bouncy chair on the rare occasions that he sleeps in the daytime. I usually leave him in the cot asleep for an extra hour or so when I get up, too. And if he's asleep when we get in from a walk he sleeps in the pram. I use a monitor so I can hear him wherever he is, but I'm still checking on him constantly. Mostly he sleeps on me, though.

FattyNinjaOwl · 10/10/2015 16:09

Found a new distraction technique!
I may have put Timmy time on for DD to keep her quiet while I tidied up the mess we made baking, well Nathan is watching it and laughing and cooing and gurgling at the TV. He's meant to be playing with his toys on his playmat, but obviously he likes the sheep better!

Fanby · 10/10/2015 17:03

Oh frolic he's so gorgeous!!

Molly is a also a day napper on people only!! And at night she only sleeps in her pram bassinet, no Moses basket for her she made that disgust loud and clear! So yes, I effectively push her around in her bed during the day....

Made it to my folks...bawled my eyes out as DH and I had a date and went to lunch, we left her for 1.5hrs so getting better!!

I've also enjoyed a nap, lovely stuff! Yay for grandparents x

Lilydreams · 10/10/2015 17:04

In the last few days I've started putting Luca in his sit me up cosy for naps and he sleeps much better in there although this could be fluke! Generally the cost is on the couch and I am in the lounge or kitchen and keep popping in on him.

I was confused by the sleep advice especially when HV asked 'and when he's sleeping in the day are you managing to get things done' I thought- hang on im supposed to be in the same room how would I get things done!? Also I noticed of an evening when he was sleeping in the lounge the TV and us and the dogs began disturbing him so asked her about the same room till 6 months advice and she said to start putting him upstairs with monitor. She also pointed out once they outgrow the Moses most people's bedrooms won't take a cot and so it's fine to put him in own room at that point with monitor and doors open etc.

I have a video monitor which saves me popping in ALL the time to check him but I am probably going to wear out the zoom button on it soon! Haha!

Lilydreams · 10/10/2015 17:05

Well done you Fanby for leaving her for a date! That's a whole 1.5 hours more than I've done!!

kbro79 · 10/10/2015 17:16

DS naps on me or DH ir sometimes his bouncy chair. Never in his crib. But currently that is because I can't get him too. We used to have the Moses basket in the living room during the day but he slept in if so little we started just putting our crap in it. So have stopped trying. We live in a flat and have not mastered art of getting sleeping DS upstairs in the pram without waking him.

Fatty thanks for the dream feed advice. Have been wondering about it too. We have tried a few times but always end up waking DS. He is a light sleeper. Will keep trying. The other problem is though that he is partial to a pre bed poo and dream nappy change doesn't work. Smile

Lots of love to those having shit nights. I think you should give yourself a massive pat on the back for doing so well. We are managing 2 chunks of about 3 hours which feels like loads compared to the early days. Really hoping you get some good stretches soon.

Loving that the nicer weather seems back. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday.

kbro79 · 10/10/2015 17:19

Oh and fanby we are at my mum and dads now. I second the thank God for grandparents.

Fanby · 10/10/2015 17:26

Yet to use our video monitor as the beast sleeps in our room, might set it up purely to spy on DH to see what he does when he's keeping an eye on her and she screams the place down Wink

EffinIneffable · 10/10/2015 18:07

Ds sleeps in the sling, sometimes in the pram but only when it's moving and never in the house, and we're starting to roll out some short naps in his crib. At the moment I stay with him for naps but hopefully we'll get the monitor set up and be able to leave him a bit. I know the advice is to always sleep supervised, but that would involve all naps in the sling or pram which I'm just not prepared for. For those of you who put your dc down to bed early in the evening, do you have them with you or use a monitor? So far I've gone to bed when ds does so the question hasn't arisen.

EffinIneffable · 10/10/2015 18:10

Ah, I see several of you have answered that question since I started writing my post a couple of hours ago!

sianihedgehog · 10/10/2015 18:16

I can't really see how the dream feeds work, really, because Fergus wakes up for a pee before a feed, and will not sit in even the smallest amount of wee without screaming - We go through something like 20 nappies a day. :/ I'm super jealous of people who only get one poop a day, we get at least 5, often more like 8!

Joskar · 10/10/2015 18:42

Bf babies are renowned for pooping infrequently. My girls have both been once a day but my friend's wee one used to just do once a week.

Dream feeds haven't worked with either of mine. Makes no odds to when they wake or wakes them up and they feed for an hour. Boo.

Tell me...are pots, pans, roasting tins dishes? As in if you were doing the dishes would you wash these thing too? Or would you, as Dh does, leave them to "soak"? Clearly he thinks we have a dish fairy.

mzzzf · 10/10/2015 18:49

Ahhhhh 'soak wankers' as I call them! Also known as can't be bothered to wash them so will use the excuse of needing a soak!! Level 4 rage for that one Joskar - unless he's a repeat offender! :-)

Yup I wonder re the nighttime too, leave them be upstairs with monitor or bring down. So tonight I'm going to try something different. We're going for bath/feed/ fall asleep upstairs. Then once snoozing I'll come down with sleeping baby to watch TV and eat before adult bedtime later. Not sure how it'll go but I'm trying to set us up for real bedtimes later down the line and get rid of the overstimulation fairy!

Fanby · 10/10/2015 19:02

Soak wankers - classic!!!
Did I share my DH's nugget on Thursday when I had the worst day of screams..."people keep telling me how amazing I look, they can't believe we have a 7 week old baby" err cheers for reminding me I haven't washed in days and I look horrendous....It's not surprising as you're sleeping in the spare room and not up every 2 hours!

Fanby · 10/10/2015 19:03

Oh and we have about 8 pooey nappies a day! These once a week babies blow.my.mind! Thank god she's in the cheapy aldi nappies! X

Lilydreams · 10/10/2015 19:42

Oh don't get me wrong DS still in our bedroom it's just a few hours in an evening he's up there on his own via the monitor because he was getting woken up in the lounge and was a right grump as a result! I dread him outgrowing his Moses as although his cot bed will fit in our room it took forever to put up and won't fit through the doorways and DH says he's not prepared to take it down to put it up again so he'll have to go in his own room Sad

Dozygirl · 10/10/2015 19:59

Lol mines a once a week kind a gal heehee. And she doesn't mind being I a wet nappy so her are lasting forever. Coming to the end of the size ones though so then I'll set on the reusables. I'll be grateful of her once a week pop habit then lol. Less poopy nappies to wash and get stained.

I always seem to go somewhere every day with dd so invariably she falls asleep in the car seat from a long nap in the day. I know theyre not supposed to stay in car seat for long and I was never going to leave her in it but as that's when she falls asleep I won't risk waking her by taking her out. although today me and her had a lovely long snooze on the sofa together with dp supervising. It was lovely.

In an evening she still cluster feeds so I don't have opportunity to put her upstairs while we have some peace. She feeds right up until whenever we give her a bottle at bedtime. She'll doze on and off next to me by will wake up as soon as I move her.

Well on top of the cough and toothache I've got, I've now been hit with a vomiting bug or something. Went round dps family's house and dp went to be sick and then I followed suit. Still feeling pretty crap but dd wants feeding. What a fun weekend. Can't wait for this tooth to be looked at on Monday although it prob just needs taking out which I'll have to wait for that to be done a the hospital.

Gorgeous babies frolic and molly.

sianihedgehog · 10/10/2015 21:26

Fanby thank god someone else gets that many poops, I was genuinely starting to worry there was something wrong!!

Here's Fergus in his usual napping position, in a rare pause between vomits. I went through three sets of pyjamas today due to baby sick. :/

Frolicacid · 10/10/2015 21:57

Evening all!

Re: napping. Ds will nap in the day for anywhere from 20 mins to 3 hours, depending on mood. We are nowhere near being in any sort of routine. He sleeps either on me, in his bouncy chair that has a lying position or in his pram. Our house is tiny so the pram is in the lounge diner anyway. The carry cot part of our pram is also a lie flat car seat and suitable for overnight sleeping. I find it very handy to be able to just leave him in it after being out for a walk or in the car.
He generally tends to have a bit of a lie-in until about 10 in his sleepyhead in the crib, so I use that time to tidy up a bit or have a shower. So he is alone for very short periods as I go about the house. We haven't bought a monitor yet. Frolicdog tends to stay with him and come to get me if he wakes.
He stays down stairs until I go to bed.

We started off on about 8 poo's a day. He'd got down to just the 1, but my antibiotics have thrown things off and he's done about 4 a day in past few days.

I hope you enjoyed your date fanby.

My dh is also a soak wanker. Sometimes we get into a bit of a Cold War over a soaking dish and just keep moving it to do the other washing up, waiting to see who will crack first. It's always me Angry.

Fergus is adorable siani. I love his outfit. We have loads of the little bird stuff too. Today ds is wearing the toadstool print leggings. A bit girly according to my niece, but very cute.
I'm always covered in sick and posset. Ds is quite skilled at covering me whilst remaining clean himself Grin.

sianihedgehog · 10/10/2015 22:13

frolic I'm obsessed with the little bird stuff - it's so fun and bright. I've basically been buying everything that fits him.

Joskar · 10/10/2015 22:18

If dd1 didn't nap in the car she would never nap at all. Fortunately our nearest neighbour is two miles away so we are able to leave her to sleep in the car no bother. No idea what we'd have done if we lived in a high rise in the city. If I park in the right place I can see her from the kitchen window. Also I've always slept on the sofa with my babies and no supervision. Dog at my feet, shite on the tellybox, baby on the boob, zero sleep the night before. Inevitable. It's been all well so far!

My other bug bear is that I consider it part of doing the dishes to wipe down the worktop and stove top. AIBU? He never does this! Never!

Fanby · 10/10/2015 23:04

Oh dozy! Sounds horrendous! One of my NCT gals got norovirus when her bubba was just 3 weeks old, sending you lots of love and get well wishes!

Love fergus' outfit, he's such a cutie!!!

We're on my first night out, it's a family party so moll's is with us. I've been drinking, maybe just over half a bottle of wine. He we forgot to bring the expressed bottle, he's driving, and so I'm feeding her now as she woke up. Hope she enjoys the White wine ConfusedBlush. Still he means there is two in my parents fridge ready and waiting so he can do two night feeds, although don't know why I'm getting excited as I'll still no doubt have my insomnia bout from 2:30 or have to pump! Joy oh joy!

Oh and don't even get me started on not wiping down services or cleaning the oven top......
