Here's hoping, anyway...

Joining so on thread. Here is hoping for that sleep. They start sleeping through at 10 weeks, right ? I wish!

We badly need to tackle daytime naps here, not having much success with those at all.

Music personally I would avoid those initials, in my job I have to write my initials out in full about 50 times a day and have worked with loads of immature dickheads so I disagree that the issue would end with primary school. Sorry.

On the sleep issue, it's battle of the boobs here. The boob discomfort is more likely to wake me than baby crying. I've decided what I need to do is wake up cos of boobs then look til I see feeding cues (which can be when they're asleep) then latch him on asleep, nappy change to wake then offer second side to get him back asleep. Seemed to work well last night. It meant I could get back to sleep comfortably and he slept for second stint long enough for me to have a bath before DH went to work.

Going to a restaurant with baby and DPs for lunch. I've booked online and asked for booth seating as breastfeeding but let's see how it goes shall we??!?! I'm scared!!!!

green That sounds horrible. Glad you are home. My little brother had a hernia that was operated on at 8 weeks and he is a very happy 28 year old man now.
music I think kids find something to pick on whatever you do. My middle name is Walford (my mum's maiden name) and I got called Wolf at primary school. They always find something do if you love the name go for it I say.

Booth not brilliant but well behaved baby and he only needed 5-10 mins of boob during pudding so successful trip out!

Sh*t Greenstone, you must be exhausted. What a worry for you all. So pleased it all went ok and sending you warm hugs and wishes for DD2s continued recovery.

DS is 5weeks and one day and has been increasingly unsettled and screamy for the last two days. He's much more alert when awake and much harder to get back off to sleep again. I'm guessing it's the growth spurt but it's frustrating when I can't seem to make anything any better for him.

I don't know if I'm being a bit mad, but I'm so scared of something happening to him that I struggle even to leave him with DP in the evenings so that I can get a couple of hours sleep before I have him for the night. It's turning me into a nagging nightmare because I don't think DP sees the potential dangers (the room can get very warm with our log burner and I worry he'll overhest). I also worry that DP won't cuddle him enough when he cries monger other things. Is this level of feeling protective normal? Or am I being really mad?

amy same here! Booth for lunch, pram blocking the view of others. Dd fed near the end of my main course but such bad manners... it was like I'd never fed her before! Happy grunting and shoving her whole face in my boob and grabbing at it with both hands!

I really want to master getting her to get herself to sleep. At the moment she has to be rocked in our arms (for a good 20 minutes at least and sometimes for hours) or fed to sleep. I just din't know how to start. If we put her down sleepy she just screams. For weeks now we've bathed and moved to a quiet room at about 8 and she still doesn't fall asleep until about 11/12. The hours between 8 and then are spent trying to stop her crying and keeping her calm.

thisis I don't know, some mums I know have told me they felt like that at first but it passed. I even took her with me to nap for the first week but I got so tired one night I gave her to dp for half an hour, fell asleep and woke up 4.5 hours later shocked that I'd not missed her even in my sleep. Since the I've left her for an hour with him several times. I think you have to do what you're comfortable with, I'm sure the time will come when you're happy about it. Hopefully dh will understand.

greenstone sorry to hear about your terrible start to the new year. Hope she is recovering well. What kind of hernia was it? DD has a alarmingly huge umbilical hernia, which Dr Google says will go away by itself, but every so often DH panics and suggests she need an emergency GP appointment

Back to less sleeping at night as the monkey as worked out how to spit or dribble out his gaviscon now doing at start of feed n hope he cries so can squirt it in as he has to swallow although still manages to spit some 15mls is least can put it in too.

Had 6weeks check today gp gave more gaviscon n review in 2weeks or before if needed. Referred also for squint which happened with ds1 too n the hospital just monitor really as baby.

Been n had a family pic done n couple of boys just had a small photo shoot at max Photoshop they are fab n get the photo within the hour. Ours was 3 different pics n one of each in 8x10, 6x8, 7x5 and 6 mini keyring sz of each for £25- bonus is its very quick. (They do a mini package for 5.99 of one pic in 8x6 and 3 of 6x4 n 6 key ring sz all of same photo). I have used them loads with ds1.

greenstone sorry to hear about the rough time you've been having.

this I get where you're coming from and think it's quite normal with a little baby. I have been consciously trying to avoid nagging DH now because otherwise I tend to bombard him with worries and instructions and I'm worried now about undermining him. It's got better with time - and now I can remind myself that he's looked after her on his own for a couple of hours plenty of times before and it's been perfectly fine. For me it was a question of making myself do it (the exhaustion helped) and then building up from there. But do what you feel comfortable with - hopefully your DP will understand that it's natural for mums to feel incredibly protective.

The Infacol appears to be working for DDs colic. However there are times when she will just not go to sleep. Luckily it's not at night.

I was wondering, is it possible for teething to start at 8 weeks? We've had endless drooling, tantrums and hand sucking for the last few days

Thanks for the advice on the name, I went with instinct and chose the name I loved, decided he doesn't have to tell everyone his middle name and if it gets too difficult for him we can add another one in later.
ladydolly I've found 8-10 one of DS2's busiest times for feeding and know what you mean about trying to settle at that time. I've decided as he's just 6 weeks I'll go with the flow still in the evenings and nights but find the days harder as he won't be out down for long, only one potential nap 2-4pm which is hard when trying to entertain/feed and do things with DS1. Wrap sling is helping.

Yay! Great night here, I slept through my 'feeding alarm' so DS slept from 8.30 last night to 7.30 and only woke once for a feed. Just fed him and he chomped 150 mls in 5 mins poor thing must have been starving. Not sure if I should be waking him every 4 hours as I was before or letting him sleep as he sewed so comfortable??

annatha - welcome and not sure on teething but if motherhood has taught me anything it's that the parameters of normal are very wide! Some babies are born with teeth through.
workfree - I bf so not sure on ff but I only wake up to crying baby or engorged boobs, no alarms or timekeeping here. I suppose it would depend on weight of baby, if unsure I'd ask HV. I'd totally enjoy the sleep
Snuffly baby here, he's kept me awake most of the night struggling to breath / clearing his throat all night. Feeding seems to sort him out a bit but I only figured that out at 5!

Welcome newcomers ??

I've been Up with a screaming DS since 2am. I couldn't do anything to settle him, and his feeding manners have completely gone out of the window with him pulling and tugging at my boob and struggling to latch. DP in the next room (who I can hear cough through the wall) didn't hear anything. How???

Shattered but can't face sleeping and missing what little dim daylight there is today. The thought of only seeing a couple of hours of daylight feels worse than the counterweight of sleep deprivation.

Work free I guess he'd wake if he were hungry so I'd enjoy the sleep!

We've got our 6 week check well 7 really on Wednesday, do I'll check them and also check with the HV when we see her on Monday.

He didn't want to settle after his 7 o'clock feed so I took him out of the Moses basket and put him into bed with me, where he's now snoring away.

ThisIs my DH is exactly the same can sleep through a frantic screaming baby as well as a nuclear holocaust. I'm beginning to think the sound of a newborns scream is at a pitch only mothers and annoyed commuters can hear.

Hello Newcomers!!

Disturbed night here too. DD is a bit snuffly and wouldn't settle. She finally went to sleep about 3 and woke at 8.30 for a feed/change. Very busy on the nappy front as well. Need to get some saline drops today.

Day 1 of trying cloth nappies. Eek. Will update at end of the day.

Hi Amy, we've got some of those too but I haven't had the time been brave enough to try them yet. Looking forward to hearing how you got on!

We're planning on using cloth too. But the ones I like the look of are best from 12lb so we've a while yet.

So far so good. No leaks. Going to use a sposie overnight but v happy so far.
Will write more details when I have 2 free hands.
