Shock at Catherine the Great. Apparently it's all lies. What a way to go....

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 15:14

She was fascinating. Didn't die like that though.

YellowWellies · 31/03/2014 15:38

No it was all slander by the insecure male courtesans and other machiavellian political operators in the Duma (or whatever it was called after Peter the Great got rid of it) who couldn't handle a strong woman handing their asses to them on a plate on a regular basis. How do you insult a woman - slander her sexual pecadillos, it was ever thus eh? I love Catherine the Great she is a historical crush of mine (along with John Rae who no one seems to know about...).

ValiumQueen · 31/03/2014 15:38

Or on the toilet.

ValiumQueen · 31/03/2014 15:41

Please peeps Google no further!!!

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 15:42

Yes strange isn't it how women have always been treated like that as soon as they get in the public eye. Some things never change.

Zamboni · 31/03/2014 16:01

Elizabeth I and MQS both had the same issue (guess my period of historical interest/geekdom?! DSD had to do a presentation on one of Henry VIII's wives and I practically offered to come and do it for her!)

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 16:18

As did Marie-Antoinette.

YellowWellies · 31/03/2014 16:48

Am loving the assorted history geekery being confessed; especially the mental image of Zamboni wanting to give her DSD's presentation!!! Grin

Right time to collect Jonas Bear from nursery and then he can help me plant a few plants in the front garden whilst DH decorates the lounge. And there's a roast chicken dinner cooking, and I've even managed some freelancing (and invoicing hurrah!!) busy day at Chez Wellies honestly didn't waste any time looking at holidays inspired by Pass's photographs of Mediterranean sunshine when it's shit and grey here oh nooooooooo.

Elizadoesdolittle · 31/03/2014 16:55

I was am obsessed with the tudor period. I used to wish I was Anne Boleyn. Apart from the bit where she got her head cut off!

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 17:13

Poor Anne Boleyn :(

Elizadoesdolittle · 31/03/2014 17:23

I also feel so sad that she never knew what a marvellous woman and queen her daughter was. Although I guess having her mothers head cut off was part of the making of Elizabeth and certainly the way she ruled. Fascinating women.

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 17:44

Yep. There are so many. There was a great thread a few weeks ago about fab women in history - lots of relative unknowns.

ValiumQueen · 31/03/2014 17:50

I am more into visions of the future. Ridley Walker anyone?

Pikz · 31/03/2014 18:15

Feeling rather flat today.

Think I'm at a big work crossroads. But I need to hold in there til hopefully I'm on mat leave again soon. I feel like going back part time has given me nothing to aim towards anymore.

ValiumQueen · 31/03/2014 18:19

You do sound flat Pikz. Take it over to FB and have a good sound off if you want. I also am at a work crossroads and just want to cling to the signpost and do nothing.

Elizadoesdolittle · 31/03/2014 18:35

tumbleweed indeed vq. I'll google him later.

Hugs pikz

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 19:00

pikz I had that feeling between babies. Though I was full time and dealing with my boss. Without whom LO would never have been dreamed of. Wasn't going to have a second, and she wasn't quite deliberate but I did kind of shrug when she happened thinking well, this wasn't going anywhere....

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out anyway. Try not to worry.

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 19:05

Not that ft was any different to pt. I was sat twiddling thumbs a lot...

Pikz · 31/03/2014 19:22

Thanks Eliza, VQ and PR. That's how I feel. Can we cling to the sign post together?

ChasingDaisy · 31/03/2014 19:33

Evening all,

Finally caught up on thread - you lot were chatty today! I had a smile on my face reading all the cock and history talk Smile My area of history geekiness is trench warfare/war poets etc.

So, a better day here. I hope it isn't insensitive of me to say that I am fucking loving my job. Part of me wishes I could be there full time. Using my brain again and being part of a lovely work environment feels better than I could have imagined and I'm getting on well with everyone. My boss is off this week so I'm long it alone already, but I'm loving the challenge. I'm managing to spend a bit more time with O as well, as my dad is giving him his nap a bit earlier so that he is ready to wake up when I get home Smile

PetiteRaleuse · 31/03/2014 19:38

That sounds great chasing sounds like you've got a good compromise there :)

BigPigLittlePig · 31/03/2014 19:40

Grin ladies, you have made my day!

Glad you are enjoying work Chasing, and good of your dad to put O to sleep earlier so you can enjoy more time with him too.

VQ how are you feeling today? Am guessing a little better since the jokes are coming thick and fast? please don't turn that line into smut

So today F slept in til 8.30. Then had a nap at 11. And another at 3. And was ready for bed by 6 alhough we dragged out bedtime. Wtf? Am now paranoid something is wrong, she never sleeps like this Confused The cat is currently curled up with her in her room keeping watch for me.

Kyz · 31/03/2014 20:11

No idea where I got up to, i've been reading the past few days but can't remember when I last posted, which is no good!

I won't say the usual 'i'm going to keep up from now' because it doesn't seem to be working very well.

How is everything, are all the poorly quichesters getting better now?
