As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello all.

We got home from hospital earlier on today. Dd is really unsettled still but I think its just the fact she has no memedication in her system whilst we wait for the new stuff to work. We have been able to put her down foran hhourwhich since she was born has never happened so its progress.

Hope everyone is doing ok and getting babies to sleep

Bunny222 · 13/02/2013 01:00

Tinkle hope things are better for u now.
Lost. Re: grizzlng with wind/ bowel movements, I have exactly the same from DS. He is two weeks old today and for
The last two days has really screwed up face, twisted body and cried, have been sure its down to his tummy. Ive rubbed his tumny ib clockwise direction which seems to soothe him, health visitor didnt seem too concerned and als recommended burping over the shoulder and liying him on his back, and bringing both knees up to his chnd back down again, in a circular shape. Hope that helps.

Chand = chest and
Stupid phone!

theboutiquemummy · 13/02/2013 03:49

Bunty ooooh ouch is that on your good side aswell hats off to you for expressing and feeding after that

Tinkle sorry you've had such a shit time of late, hoping that the new medication works

theboutiquemummy · 13/02/2013 03:57

Evening bunny GrinGrin you should see the auto correct texts I've been sending out

One thing that helped us when LO had colic was the tiger in the tree and to walk around with him like that patting his back until he could burp for himself hope that helps

In other news God Bless Ewan had my first 6 hours sleep since LO was born followed the bath massage feed bed routine not sure if it's going to stick but oh my word there is hope was beginning to lose the will to live

Only thing is I can't settle so am wasting time lying awake worrying about lying awake ShockWinkWink

2blessed · 13/02/2013 05:25

boutique whats the tiger in the tree? Winding ds can sometimes take up to 30 mins so always interested to know of other techniques/ideas.

He went down just before 12 but i've heard him stirring for last 40 mins or so.

Bunny222 · 13/02/2013 06:01

Boutique six hours! My life, I cant get past two! I also tried to follow bath, swaddle, feed, cuddle, bed but would love ur result. How old is ur LO?

Also not familiar with tiger in the tree?

Lora1982 · 13/02/2013 09:59

I think tiger in the tree is laying your baby on your forearm with your forearm across your belly/under boobs so theier legs are dangling down, dont quote me though.

What a godawful night awake every two three hrs an he had a blocked nose so the poor thing couldnt breath unless upright i dont get any decent sleep cos i wake up to every grizzly sound he makes. Going to my sisters today because if i stay here with the so called dp i think i will lose it and scream at him. I feel like im doing this all by myself he doeant help at night even if hes not working and hes constantly getting beers in ive not drank for over ten months ffs he cant even last a couple of nights a week to help me!

Birdies · 13/02/2013 10:14

Got nearly 3 hours in a row then it went totally downhill. boutique I've been just like that but Bach rescue night remedy has been a massive help.

My DD seems to get awful wind too, especially overnight and I struggle to wind her. The thing is I hear clicking sounds when she's feeding and she keeps swallowing air and slipping until only has a tiny bit of boob in her mouth. Does anyone know if there's anything I can do about that? Is it just a poor latch?

salt1 · 13/02/2013 11:11

birdies is there a breast feeding group in your area? or there is the nct helpline or la leche website. hope they can help.

i am crossing fingers for a better day than yesterday. all afternoon and evening all dd did was feed, then cry, feed then cry - totally missing out the nap part. has anyone else has this? she had 3 hours in swing last night while i slept on sofa, it was bliss...

BuntyCollocks · 13/02/2013 11:40

birdies clicking when feeding is a classic indicator of tongue tie. That, coupled with the fact she's windy (tongue tied babies take in more air as they don't have a great seal on the breast - you also mention her slipping off the nipple), means I'd be pushing for a referral to someone who knows their shit when it comes to a tongue tie. That generally isn't normal midwives or paediatricians in my experience, unfortunately.

Can you afford to get an ibclc out to check her?

Message me if you want more details.

Birdies · 13/02/2013 13:20

bunty would I be able to tell by looking at her tongue? She has a long little tongue!

BuntyCollocks · 13/02/2013 14:08

birdies yes, but it depends on the type and location of tie. Dd has a Ptt and can stick her tongue out, but it points downward.

It's about range of movement with a tie, not just how far they can stick it out which is a common misconception even amongst medical types.

MamaMary · 13/02/2013 16:08

I'm so exhausted. I wish DD1 still took a nap. I need one!

I thought about going out today but it's been raining all day. Yesterday was the first (and last??) dry day in ages and I'm glad we got out to the park - DD1 certainly appreciated it. Poor thing has been stuck at home most of the time with us.

I think part of my tiredness is to do with my crappy diet. I'm eating far too much sugar and surviving on caffeine to get me through...

Birdies · 13/02/2013 16:45

bunty another question for you as i think you were the bra size expert too! My bra strap is rubbing and it hurts. But I got fitted by a rigby & Peller (or whatever) person so I think it's the right size. I want my huge bra band size back. Why do you think it rubs?

mama I'm eating lots of sugar too. Not caffeine though as didn't think you could have when breastfeeding? I may have made that up though!

Everyone - would it be wrong for me to buy two more pairs of comfy maternity leggings from asda?!! Blush

Tugstonia · 13/02/2013 18:14

Dd had her tongue tie snipped today. It's a posterior one and the consultant said she had v limited tongue mobility. Dd fed afterwards and it was initially pain free but then felt painful again but that's more likely the thrush which has ravaged my poor nips. The consultant took a photo of them to show at a conference where she's giving a talk on nipple thrush! Lovely. Poor dd has thrush in her mouth, bum and armpits :( I feel so bad. Anyway thrush aside I'm really hoping the procedure will help in the long term, though the thought of having to feed her every 2-3 hours for the next week fills me with terror. Hope the thrush meds kick in soon.

MamaMary · 13/02/2013 18:58

Yes, I think I will try to cut back on caffeine, though I'm not having any more than the recommended amount in the US of 4 cups of tea a day. It may make me feel less groggy though clutches at straws

MamaMary · 13/02/2013 18:59

tugs, sympathies RE the feeding regime, that's tough...Hope it will be worth it though.

BuntyCollocks · 13/02/2013 20:14

tugs bless you. I hope the snip helps.

birdies where is it rubbing exactly?

tinkletinklestar · 13/02/2013 23:20

Hi al.

tugs i hope everything gets better now for you. Poor little mite tongue tie and thrush!

I dont really know if things are improving here. Dd is better in that she is not in as much pain and the acid reflux has improved. However since she has been born she has slept on one of us or been constantly cuddled as if shes not she would scream and scream hysterically!

Now all she does is scream and scream some more..so I think she is still very unsettled but were finding it hard to know what is for attention and what is for pain as she doesnt grizzle or moan..just screams very loudly

Tonight I told dh we have to start being a little bit firmer, I cant keep walking around with her 24/7 as it's driving me a little crazy now.

salt1 · 14/02/2013 01:11
