Good morning, it's been quiet on here. Is anyone finding it nearly impossible to carry there wee one in a car seat? Joel is now 20lb 10oz! We went to Mothercare the other day to look into buying him a bigger car seat but they strongly advised us against it. They said the longer you can keep him in a rear facing one the better. She then went on to tell us that there have been cases of babies being in a forward facing car seat too young and if they're in an accident they're wee heads have been thrown forward which resulted in a snapped windpipe - scary stuff. Shock
Are all your wee ones still in wee car seats?

mummyhill · 05/05/2006 11:17

We have a britax one that faces both ways. A must as trying to carry D in a car seat would kill my spine. plus he is way to long for one of those seats now anyway.

milward · 05/05/2006 12:44

ds4 still in the maxi-cosi car seat. It's heavy carrying him to the car but I put him in the baby sling when out & about - especially when collecting the others from school.

Thunder storms predicted here - waiting for them to start at dds bedtime :)

beatie · 05/05/2006 14:20

Hi everyone - sorry to be so scarce. I'm trying to get back into studying and MN becomes such a distraction, even if I only intend to check in here for a quick visit.

Alice and dd1 are well. Alice is sitting well now. Still no rolling or other movement but that's fine. We've put the travel cot up, downstairs, to use as a playpen for the next couple of months. We put her in it now so she gets used to being trapped before she gains the freedom of movement Grin

It's nice to be done with a lot of the other baby stuff - breast pump, bouncy chair, bumbo, baby bouncer, baby bjorn. I'm managing to sell quite a bit on ebay.

ych Car seats. We bought a carseat which can be rear or forward facing. The one we got is a Concord Ultimax. We couldn't recommend it enough. You could consider doing that.

For dd1 we kept her in the infant carseat until she was a year old but we stopped carrying her in it when she was around 6 months old. We left it in the car.

Nikkinoo · 07/05/2006 09:56

Morning all

Its a bit quiet on ere at the mo!

Its all echoey Smile

ych · 07/05/2006 19:37

Thanks for car seat advice.
I have a rather embarrassing problem, sorry if TMI but I have a tampon thats went astray. I'm going to have to go to the doctors tomorrow to get them to remove it. Blush It's never happened before, is this what childbirth does to you?!? Anyone else had this problem?!? Blush Blush

beatie · 07/05/2006 20:12

Not personally but I have heard of others having to have them removed, so I am sure they, like with everything, will have seen it all before.

Don't be Blush about it. :)

ych · 07/05/2006 20:55

Thanks Beatie, I can't help but Blush just thinking about it! I'll just be glad when its over.

jaamy · 07/05/2006 22:02

Hello All!
Re: car seat - we had DD1 in the travel system car seat until she was nearly 1 but DD2 is much longer so don't think she will last that long. Though I too have been told that the longer you can keep them in a rear facing seat the better. Will probably wait until about 9 months.
Took DD2 swimming for the first time yesterday. She took to it much better than DD1 did and will soon be jumping aound splashing like her big sis.
Milward - how cool that DS is very nearly crawling forward. Not much movement here. DD2 is usually eating: bitty (!!) followed by cereal for breakfast; some kind of cheesy pasta/ veggie rice followed by fruit puree for lunch; bitty (or bottle if at nursery) mid pm; and fish/pork/chicken with potato and veg and yoghurt for tea. Particularly partial to spag bol. Bitty or bottle before bed. Have absolutely no idea how much she weighs. Is that really bad?
Beatie - we're like you - can sit up pretty well but not much rolling going on. Think it's because she's quite long. Likes to swivel herself around on her back, though depending on what interesting things are going on around her.
Ych - hope not too Blush tomorrow. I'm sure they'll have seen it all before and I too have heard of it happening.
Nikkinoo - cars, eh? Who'd have 'em? Sorry to hear about your car/van traumas. DH popped out dent that I made on my car bumper today. Doesn't look to bad now. This after a service that cost nearly £400 and further work that's gonna cost £300. The flaming thing's only 3.5 years old!!!
Hope everyone else is ok. Night night

PiccadillyCircus · 08/05/2006 12:18

Hello Smile.

Alice and I survived her first settling in session at nursery (I was with her for all of it) - I think she will probably quite like it.

It is much too wet here.

No rolling at all here, Alice likes to sit up, grab things, eat, steal DS's toys, drink water, play with toys etc.

ych I remember a thread ages ago where someone had left a tampon inside. And I'm sure a lot of people said they had as well. Hope it's all right.

Hello everyone... very long time without posting, Nikkinoo e-mailed me to make sure I'm ok it's been so long!

just been so very busy - my first exam is on 23rd and I'm beginning to get that hollow dread that i've not done enough work...

Ah I'll have to just tell you the whole anti-climax that was getting together with DNM - he came back from Scotland and I met him off the train so we could go out... we had a lovely evening and continued the long chats that we'd been having on the phone over his holiday - but I'm afraid it just brought it home to me that I'm not really ready for all this New Man stuff Sad DNM on the other hand wasn't able to read my mood and was really keeeeeeeeeeeen!!! I just found his puppy dog enthusiasm really off putting Shock (I know, there's no pleasing some!!!) when I suggested the next day that we take the whole thing a little slower he went into full blown girlie strop mode! put the phone down on me Shock and betrayed a side to his character I'd just not anticipated at all - I like my men to be men... Anyway - subsequent calls consisted of him attempting to analyse me... but he doesn't KNOW me! - Girls, I called it a day. I'm just putting it down to experience and will be just a little bit more wary about getting all excited about anyone else - well I probably wont because it's the way I get when I meet a guy! I'll just wait until I'm more ready Smile

NORTH MEET girls - Did a recce in Chester - we could meet at Cafe Nero in the main pedestrianised street.it's central and really close to the cathedral. Chester's quite a long haul for us midland girls so we'll only arrange it if some of you North West girls are coming... Bubbles? Jaamy? any takers for 11am on Friday 14th July?

SOUTH MEET girls - I've not been to Kew but the web says there are lots of cafes and restauraunts dotted around the gardens and I would love to go... PC you're first back at work on July 3rd so which would you prefer? the last week in June or further into july? perhaps tuesday July 25th? you said tuesdays and fridays are good for you, will you be doing a three day week?

I have little worries that I don't feed C enough solids but he's looking well and gaining (though I've not weighed him lately but he's growing) he still loves his milk and this seems to be his main source of nutrition... anyone else the same or are all your babes really enthusiastic about food?

back to studying after the Archers so later all xxx

franch · 08/05/2006 15:44

Hi all, just popping my head in VERY BRIEFLY as I promised PC I would Grin - DD2's just woken so bad timing ...

I've been lurking for ages but trying to limit my MN time so have resisted chatting ... DD2 is a joy, very happy and smiley these days and sleeping well (after going through a really bad phase a month or so ago). DD1 adores her, which helps a lot - though of course we have good days and bad days.

I'll be back. Love to you all, hope your little ones are thriving :)

mummyhill · 08/05/2006 16:26

Hi all

D is growing out of 9 - 12 month clothes. So we had to go out and get some a bit bigger for him today. I hope he slows down some time soon cause it is costing a fortune to clothe the little swine!!!!!

Rabbitt - Glad you got home ok did you get on the motorway ok???? C is fine just the way he is hun not all babies are guzzle guts like D.

YCH - Had to hold a close friends hand through this. They will of seen it all before. They use a speculum and have a look to see where it has got to and pull it out. After having kids we should be used to people looking up our flues but it still gets embarassing.

wabbitt · 08/05/2006 17:59

Hi Franch - lovely you'er back Smile

Mummyhill - yes, I got back just fine - was really surprised the M6 wasn't busier on a Friday evening, it had been such a beautiful afternoon it was lovely to spend it in the park. N thought you were great! loved your company - we'll have to repeat the park thing over the summer... perhaps you'd like to come over this way? It's very pretty Smile

Nikkinoo - I've e-mailed you now sweetie xxx

PC - Hello to Alice's new toothy peg! Smile

PiccadillyCircus · 08/05/2006 20:49

Glad you popped in franch Smile.

As far as a meet up goes, we're away from the middle until the end of June, so would prefer some time in July. As you guessed wabbitt, I will be working Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays so Tuesdays or Fridays would be better (although I could hopefully organise some holiday if necessary).

I'm going to an away day at work on Thursday and DH will be looking after DS and Alice. I am only just realising I will have to talk about things not related to babies for a whole day - not sure if I will be able to manage Grin.

ych · 08/05/2006 21:18

Well the offending item has been removed! Wasnt as bad as I thought but wouldnt want to do it everyday! Smile
Wabbit - sorry things didnt work out with your man.
Joel now has 4 teeth. He rolls from one side of the living room to the other. He can't sit by himself yet but constantly pulls himself onto his feet. We can't eat anything in peace as he always wants what we have!

mummyhill · 08/05/2006 22:24

Wabbitt - Would love to pop over your way after you have finished your exams hun. Noop is a credit to you. N didn't stop talking about her all weekend. She was very impressed with her new big girl friend and thought that D's baby friend was lovely too. I was quiet impressed to find both of mine sleeping by the time we got to Dh's work to collect him.

YCH - Glad it wasn't to much of an ordeal for you.

Franch - Welcome back hun we've missed you.

On the subject of missing persons does anyone know what has happened to STM????

Nikkinoo · 09/05/2006 09:51

Wabbit- you had me worried there!!!!!!!!!!!!! got your e mail, gosh hes gorg!!!!! Sad about you and nm but very brave of you to not go ahead with it if it isnt feeling right x. Will reply to you, just gonna change C, back on the cloths due to finances and she needs changing every 2 hours or so.

No worries about the car, these things happen Grin

Hi franch lovely to see you again

Hi mummyhill hope youre not too tired at the mo hun x

ych- happened to me once, honestly the docs seen alot worse probably involving men and strange implements!

see you soon

Rhumba · 09/05/2006 10:16

re car seats G is still in the mama and papas first rear facing one. Think we put DS in the Maxi cosi prior one around now but he was bigger heavier and had been sitting up for a couple of months. Will wait til she's at least 9kg and then will prabably put her in his maxi cosi and get a booster seat for him as he's fairly tall.

G also has a wee tooth. Noticed just the tip of it a couple of weeks ago and it's still sitting there half hidden. She's aslo a bit snotty but doing ok at night considering.
She's now sitting fairly well but not showing any signs of crawling backwards or forwards. She can't get herself into sitting yet which from memory comes first.

Wecome back to ych and franch. Glad that's all sorted ych!

Right got a 3rd birthday party to arrange. we're having it in the garden so let's hope it's sunny!

mummyhill · 09/05/2006 11:05

Cat just cost me another vet bill. He has an abcess where the squirrel bit him so more antibiotics for him. it's great fun trying to manouver a double buggy and a cat carrier on the bus.

jaamy · 09/05/2006 13:15

Am house bound as car (which was serviced on Sat) refused to start this am...hoping won't be docked a day's pay for not being able to get to work as really can't afford that. Waiting for bad news from garage as I type.
Ych - glad the deed was done and you didn't have too bad a time. Will ahve to go outside and enjoy some of the sunshine.
Wabbitt - sorry it didn't work out with prospective NM. Maybe it's time for some selfish time for you, C and N? Good luck with revision and thanks for trying to arrange meetups. I can't do a morning meet as DDs have play/music groups to go to. Thurs/Fri lunchtime/pm would be best for me tho I know that it's going to be impossible to accommodate everyone.
Rhumba - have fun party planning - are you having a theme? Is it at home or away? DDs' nursery has just announced that they are installing a play area that will be let out for parties so that's DD1's birthday sorted for next jan!
DD2 has 2 teeth on the bottom and has been desperately growing the two top ones for ages. They look like they're about to pop through any day now.
As it's entering holiday season, where's everyone going this year - SR is in America, PC where are you off to in June? - go on, make us jealous...
Have been looking out for STM too and a few others - jofeb and bubbles and still no sign of sallie, it's been a long time. Hope everyone is ok and just too busy to post?

PiccadillyCircus · 09/05/2006 13:18

We're going away twice in June Blush.

At the beginning we're going to Italy, as it's my FIL's 60th birthday. There'll be 9 of us there (all with the same surname Smile).

And in the middle of June, DH, DS, Alice and I are going to France to a Keycamp Smile.

OP posts:
jaamy · 09/05/2006 13:25

Sounds lovely pc - I lurve Italy and extended family hols are always great fun. Never done the keycamp thing yet but plan to do something similar in the next couple of years - it's just that looooong drive from here all the way down to Calais that puts me off. Guess it's not so far for you.
We're off to Centerparc (again!) in June and then visiting family in Ireland in July as a lot of them haven't met DD2 yet.
