Pull up a comfy chair, grab a cuppa and a piece of cake, switch the monitors on low and let's PARTY.....!!!

PA I find that putting the lid on the blender really reduces the splattering... :o

Lots of poorly DCs around at the moment. DD1 is fine and back at school today, hoorah!

LBH lovely to hear from you. DD2 says cuggle instead of cuddle as well. Your mention of arse made me remember that my nephew (now 14) used to call me arse instead of my name, which coupled with his use of low for hello made for an embarrassing situation when my sister brought him to see me at work one day and he shouted "Low arse" across a supermarket at me...

BG remind your DD2 that she needs to remember who is there for her during the week! I think it's just the imbalance of is that gets me. But she did let DH get her dressed after her bath last night (though I still had to do the bedtime story).

Yesterday we had an interesting shopping expedition where DD2 refused to sit in her pushchair and insisted on walking at all times. Not a problem, except that she would not stay near us and I actually lost her for a couple of minutes in a huge shop . DH and I were exhausted by the time we got home, though in reality she was just excited about being out and having a brilliant time. She was attracting a lot of admiring looks and chuckles, but still...

PenguinArmy · 23/01/2012 10:34

ah, we only have a handblender so end up doing it in the saucepan

thanks for that tip BC She's been eating chilled fruits OK and other foods if she has had pain relief.

SconesForTea · 23/01/2012 16:12

Oh dear lots of poorly LOs Sad Glad DD1 is better BBB.

I can even throw DD1 and me onto the poorly pile too. We've both got a pretty mild cold, FX it stays that way. At the moment lots of runny noses (oh, so much snot) and wet sneezes spraying everywhere. From both of us. Delightful.

Great to hear from you LBH. DD1's GPs think she's a genius too Grin I only do half the time Grin I can definitely say that DD2 gets less attention, when DD1 was a baby my memory is of having to occupy her a lot of the time or she'd cry. I more or less leave DD2 to it unless she is screaming, but she hardly ever screams so she spends a lot of time amusing herself. She has found her thumb - wow - it is never out of her mouth now Shock

I have very ambitiously put DD1 down for a second nap. She needs it as was up half the night due to her cold, and I need it as we just had a very stressful outing to a park. Even if she doesn't go down (and it sounds like she won't), I am going to drink my tea and eat my biscuits in peace Smile

BBB DS is a daddy's boy at the moment if he's home. If we're by ourself, he's happy for me to put on his shoes/jacket/put him in the car...

LBH nice to hear from you.

Happy birthday rainbow DD

DS can pedal on the tricycle Sometimes he also calls me 'honey' as DH calls me like that.

PenguinArmy · 23/01/2012 19:35

Just popped on to wish rainbow's DD a great day even if it is late

Happy Birthday to rainbow's DD!!
First on the thread, hope you've had a lovely day!

DD had a early nap, was hoping she would have two as still ill but also had the rough time before bed. I even offered her pasta but she ate porridge instead. She skipped her jabs again as she still had a mild fever when we got there.

BigBadBear · 23/01/2012 20:21

Happy birthday rainbow's DD! Can't believe our babies are turning two...

Good to see the MN jinx has affected consumption of my usual failsafe daal recipe! Sorry PA didn't mean to patronise earlier, I forgot about stick blenders (and used mine this evening in celebration at remembering).

IC I'm not sure about enforcing naps. It has never ever worked for my two...

Sending get well and sleepy dust...

PenguinArmy · 23/01/2012 20:41

don't worry, I didn't take it that way :)

StoneBaby · 23/01/2012 21:19

PA about the hand blender I find that there's less splashing if the food is transfered into a tall but narrow container like a pint glass. Or use a tea towel to cover the pan when the mixer is in it (can be messy and the towel will definately need a wash).

For his birthday DS is getting an easel from us (blackboard on one side and magnetic white board on the other side), some kind of computer from my mum and a Gruffalo book from my auntie (in French). Plus I guess some money from my MIL.

I found the design of the cake (a carrot and walnut sponge) - a Noddy's car! I just have to think how to do the decoration as the recipe I have use buttercream as the main 'topping and I hate buttercream. So I may just use colored marzipan. Hmm

SconesForTea · 23/01/2012 22:58

A late happy bday to rainbow's DD. Wow, our babies are turning 2. Where have those 2 years gone?

SB I am very impressed at your cake making/decorating plans. I plan to ask my Dad if he'd like to make DD1 a cake Grin

DD1 didn't have her second nap, but i didn't get her down til I'd had my tea Smile I'm with your DH, IC, I'm going to try to keep DD1 napping for as long as I can. Thus far, even a late nap hasn't interfered with her going to bed. I sometimes put her down at 4pm if I need a break Blush

Get well wishes to poorlies. As I'm one of them I'll head to bed.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/01/2012 13:34

Ha, well to be fair I can't force DD to actually fall asleep, BBB! But if she's reasonably content to stay in her buggy, she usually drops off after a while.
She's in there now, but that was a no-brainer - she looked knackered over her lunch and her head drooped before she'd swallowed her last mouthful. She woke up in the night and although she went quiet almost instantly after I left her, I suspect she may have taken a while to actually get back to sleep (as did I - I was trying not to think of my scan....)

...which I had this morning and it's all good. Heartbeat, and lots of wriggling, plus measuring a week bigger than my dates (better that way round, I think!). So far, so good! I put myself at about 8 weeks, the scan put me at just over 9, but there's a 5 day margin or error at this stage.... Smile
Very relieved. I was in tears when the sonographer pointed out the flickering heartbeat.

Good news IC! Smile
Late happy birthday to rainbow's DD.

Bearcrumble · 24/01/2012 16:01

Lovely news, IC so pleased it's all looking good.

Belated happy birthday to rainbow's DD.

My DH is off at the office in Hamburg until Friday, so I had to go alone to my consultant appointment yesterday. Everything still seems fine growth and blood pressure wise so that's very reassuring. He said because they had to do a vertical cut as well as a horizontal one when I had DS it's not safe to labour as it makes me much higher risk for uterine rupture so if all stays well I'll be having a caesarian at 39 weeks. That's 10 weeks on Friday.

We have chosen her name even though we said we would wait until we'd seen her.

DS has had a few tantrums recently - I knew showing off about his sweet nature would jinx it and he'd start. He was screaming on the train today because I took a massive pot of raisins off him to save half for later. And he lay down on the floor when I tried to put his coat on in the Natural History Museum.

I don't think I'll be able to make Godstone Farm. I don't drive (I have a licence but I haven't driven for ages and I'm nervous) and it's the week before we go to Center Parcs (did you see that thread? We won't be doing that) so I can't really ask DH to take more time off to drive us.

So as well as the subsidence - the estate agents who bought the pub next door have applied for planning permission to build a house right up next to ours (ours is the end of the terrace, adjoining the pub garden). I don't think we'll ever be able to sell. We will object but the plans look reasonable - the house is the same style and height as ours so it could get accepted even though this is a conservation area. We'll see. I have a terrible urge to key all the estate agents cars when they park them outside my house now.

BabyGiraffes · 24/01/2012 18:10

IC Grin

StoneBaby · 24/01/2012 18:40

bc good that everything is going fine. At least you know when your DD will come Grin Shame about your house.

PenguinArmy · 24/01/2012 19:57

looks like it might just be and you BBB

BC sorry about the more bad news on your house

DD has come out in an apparent viral rash on top of the HF&M and still possessing a slight fever. This afternoon was hard work but we got there and still had some fun.

StoneBaby · 24/01/2012 20:07

IC and BG great pictures

Thanks all for DD's birthday wishes! We celebrated the weekend before last as the 23rd is Chinese new year - dragon year for those of you who are expecting. :) plus i had to trvael last week. Had a small party with 2 other toddlers, we didn't plan any activities. Just had balloons and a lunch for the parents which the children also joined in, then just let them run around playing with the toys and balloons. The trampoline was also very popular. The chocolate cake was a hit, with DD actually putting her mouth to a corner and taking a bite before anyone could stop her! Will post pictures to FB. Last weekend was all Chinese new year celebrations, feeling down ATM as it seems DD's missing out on all the cultural aspects of CNY, plus Relations with DH in a grumpy state today so your wishes to DD have really hit the spot!

Get well soon all the poorlies, and good luck with the interview PA. Going back to sleep now.... Zzzzz....

SconesForTea · 25/01/2012 11:13

IC fab news on your scan Grin Very pleased and relieved for you. Only 3 weeks to go til your dating scan now!

bc I can't believe you will be giving birth in 10 weeks! Shock Your pg seems to be going remarkably quickly. Not you you I expect... How are you feeling these days? Bad news on the house front Sad

I think I will have to bow out of Godstone Farm too Sad I will be staying at my mum's later in Feb, but am already busy on the Friday seeing a London-based friend and I think it would only really be manageable on a Friday so that either my mum or DH could drive me one of the journey legs. Even from my mum's it would be 1.5 hours by train then a bus. It's a times like these I wish I drove more... (I'm like you bc in that I have a license but I hate driving so rarely do and I'm extremely nervous).

PA how is DD doing? Poor thing. How are you finding it coping with ill DD and baby DS?

Hi rainbow your DD's party sounds fun. I wonder if I can get a trampoline in the pub function room... Sorry to hear that relations with DH aren't top notch.

Well I am once again about to wake up DD2 from an extraordinarily long sleep. 13 hours and counting. Surely this isn't normal? I'm starting to worry a bit.
