Pull up a comfy chair, grab a cuppa and a piece of cake, switch the monitors on low and let's PARTY.....!!!

This is the best age every for our LOs to have Christmas Xmas Smile. dd2 just helped me decorate the Christmas tree while singing Happy Birthday to herself (her favourite song at the moment). I store Christmas and Easter decorations in the same blanket box... you can probably guess what happened Xmas Grin. I will retrieve the Easter eggs when she's having a nap later Grin. She is also very impressed by the nativity set and keeps putting the baby Jesus to bed...

Oh BBB have some mulled Wine, forget work and have a lunchtime nap...

BigBlueBear · 12/12/2011 12:45

Thanks BG. I'm drinking mulled wine tea to get me through the work - just 20,000 words to edit on cancer today, so no nap for me :(

RedNoseBabyGiraffes · 12/12/2011 12:49

Ouch, so much for you having given up work.... Wink. Freelance sounds very busy but at least it cuts the commuting. Hope you have a better night tonight. Any idea why your dd2 had a bad night?

BigBlueBear · 12/12/2011 13:01

She had a bit of a temp on Saturday, and has a cough, but nothing else of note. I'm blaming teething (she still doesn't have her bottom outside incisors, let alone her canines) and/or a cold. She's gone to nursery today (bad mummy emoticon), on the grounds that she was fine during the day yesterday. DD1, on the other hand, sleeps wonderfully but is being pretty horrible during the day. I think she is tired after her first term at big school.

Still, it's a lovely sunny day, and I'm making tortilla soup for dinner! So not all is blue with the world!

I'll stop whining now. Hope everyone else is OK?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/12/2011 13:22

Aw, poor you BBB - and your DD2. I hope you get your editing done so you can have a rest - and your DDs and DH give you a bit of breathing space....

PA could be.... I stopped BF because DD had a cold and was biting me. It could be linked to more subsequent colds, I guess. But I think it's more to do with the fact that we are much more sociable since coming back from Spain, so DD's mixing more with huge numbers of assorted snotty toddlers....

DD hasn't really got the idea of Xmas at all so far, RNBG - although she loves me singing "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree" (very traditional in this house....!)

DD has cottoned on to my 'kiss it better' technique so when she stubbed her toe this morning she bent down and kissed it better

made a mad dash into the city centre this morning for our annual small dec buying (well I say annual, we started it last year). Last years is still in it's original packaging and we don't have a tree to put them on.

DD is still ill, but at least she's good at blowing her nose. She's down for her second nap of the day. Cough is still on the worse but skin is clearing on our new regime.

Lost track between the two of them of how many dirty nappies have been changed today.

When out I walked past a shop and saw a BF compatible dress. Thought about trying it on but DD shouting 'poooo' in the shop made me just leg it to the car.

StoneBaby · 12/12/2011 16:33

IC and PA I don't know lots about BF but I was going to suggest that as you're going out more into toddlers group, the colds may be the result. DS had lots of colds/chest infections last year when exposed for the 1st time to germs at nursery but this year (touch wood) he's better.

PA Xmas Grin at your DD kissing better herself

BBB good luck, I hope your DDs will get better and that you'll sleep tonight

PA Xmas Grin but sweet

RedNoseBabyGiraffes · 13/12/2011 08:10

IC Angry I've been singing 'Rocking around the Christmas tree' half the night thanks to you.... Xmas Grin

BigBlueBear · 13/12/2011 12:16

PA Xmas Grin

A much better night here thanks. She was pretty miserable after nursery (though apparently fine while there), so I gave her some ibuprofen at bedtime. She woke up screaming for no apparent reason once (a night terror?), but settled back down quite quickly, and then slept through until 7:30am. So we're all feeling much more lively today!

Last night's tortilla soup was excellent, even if I do say so myself. This week is very Mexican themed in our house, as tonight we are having Mexican humble pie and later in the week we will have winter tacos.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/12/2011 13:44

PA Xmas Grin

RNBG Xmas Grin

Good news, BBB!
What is tortilla soup, out of interest?

We had a toddler group Xmas party this morning, which was very sweet. DD enjoyed herself hugely, the most independent I've yet seen her at a group. Mind you, she conked out in the buggy on the way home, but woke up soon after we got back (me looking like a drowned rat, thanks to being hailed and rained on all the way home). Which means she now sounds suspiciously lively up in her buggy - I think the 15min power nap may have been enough to revive her and kybosh any further sleep. Ah well. I'm leaving her there for some quiet time and if she doesn't get back to sleep, it'll be an early bedtime.

DD's little friend gave her a bit cuddle today. In the past she's yelled at him, kicked out at him, or shouted for me to rescue her but today, despite looking a bit dubious, she took it in her stride.

The cold seems to have entirely gone, thankfully.

BigBlueBear · 13/12/2011 14:15

Yay for the cold going IC! Shame about the nap, but I think it's par for the course. DD2 often doesn't have a nap on the days she's with me, but I'll always take night sleep over day sleep!

Tortilla soup is a spicy Mexican tomato soup thickened with polenta that is garnished with various things like tortilla chips, chopped avocado, sour cream, feta cheese and coriander. I use this Thomasina Miers recipe. DH often turns his nose up at soup as a dinner (obviously I don't let it deter me), but even he was happy with this!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/12/2011 15:06

That sounds delish, BBB!

We have soup for dinner often. Love it. Homemade and hearty, with plenty of toast, why not?!

Yup, gave up on the nap and DD's now running around full of beans. Which is fine! DH is unexpectedly home early, so that gives me a breather anyway.

RedNoseBabyGiraffes · 13/12/2011 18:01

I might try that recipe BBB although my dh is the same as yours and does not consider soup to be dinner. We had thick pea soup (proper split peas) last night and he went off to find more food at about 8 - not because he was hungry, just because he felt soup was not a proper meal

Bearcrumble · 13/12/2011 18:10

PA - love 'owl'.

Tortilla soup sounds amazing.

DS's face scrape is a lot better. The nurse at A+E last time and the chemist this time both said that vaseline is great for healing/preventing scars so I've been using iton him a lot.

I can't remember if I said - we went on the santa steam train down in Tenterden on Sun. It was great - he loved it, think we will make it a yearly tradition.

StoneBaby · 13/12/2011 18:51

bc your DS seems so happy on the train's picture on FB

DS can not open the tall cupboard door in the kitchen (only one not with a child lock) and from it he pulls out the cheese crackers box. He then got upset whne he couldn't open the box Xmas Hmm Now I need to think on how to secure this cupboard...

BBB could the full moon had effect on her sleep? DS always has bad nights around it. I like the sound of that soup, DH has soup most night when he finishes work at 1am as it's easier to digest. I can't eat soup since been pregnant.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/12/2011 21:07

Good to hear DS' face is getting better, Bc!

Apropos of nothing at all today, DD suddenly turned to me and said "I love you, Mummy!"
I could hardly believe my ears and as you can imagine, I melted immediately. DD's never said anything like that before, solicited or unsolicited. Such a lovely surprise Xmas Smile

RedNoseBabyGiraffes · 13/12/2011 22:39

IC Awww....

StoneBaby · 14/12/2011 00:28

IC I would have been in tears if DS said something like this

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 14/12/2011 06:36

Hi all! It is difficult to post with DH here all the time!

I will be moving hopefully soon Confused and post even less, not sure how the connexion will be. sightly stressful for me, that why DH likes it here though! So seasons greetings to you all Xmas Grin

IC that's cute.

BBB tortilla soup sounds really good.

bethy I hope it is going well with the doc appointments, and your DS can go back on a diet which suits him.

PA It is not because you stopped BF. It is the move, different cold viruses here from california so she is catching up on the local varieties. I found that every time we moved regions DD1 was spending the 1st few months (/years) catching a lot of cold and childhood diseases. DD2 never moved and is not even half as sick as her sister was (and she was BF less). I could explain more scientifically the theory behind that but my head is still half a sleep! Playgroups/libraries/swimming pools are breading ground too.

rainbow hello!
I can't remember anything else to say to anybody else Blush, but I am thinking of you Brew

So DD2 is still way behind on talking I will check with the pead. soon, probably after the move. A few weeks won't matter, right?

I had to get rid of baby things Sad as DD2 is too big for the travel cot, the ergo and her high chair. Her cot will follow quicker than I planned too.

DD2 is getting a garage, a toolbench (both toddler), a tea set with tea bags! (wooden) and a squirrel. (us and 3 set of GP).

And last, can I brag about DD1? she had her 1st term exam results and she is excellent!

It looks like she as already caught up, her mean mark is 93/100! She is not really happy about it though Hmm she wants 100/10.

OK, DD2 is now on my lap, "helping" with the typing, this is getting very tedious! It is probably long enough by now anyway.

So good luck, have fun and I hope to get back soon
