Thread 4 - that's one a month!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kittycatcat · 12/09/2011 04:42

Ps he went from 839 to 231 between feeds and was sick 45 minutes later. Could it just be reflux as his tum wasnt ready?

daisylulu · 12/09/2011 06:30

kitty sorry to hear your LO is still unwell. Sad bit different but J had a few puking episodes and her paed said her reflux was probably flaring up due to catching a minor bug - he said to expect symptoms for 14-18 days. However it's always worth a quick mind-put-at-rest trip to GP.

Cyclebump · 12/09/2011 07:35

Talking of I'll babies, any tips on dealing with heavy colds? H spent last night in various positions on me on the sofa as he was so bunged up he could barely breathe. We've tried the Karvol but it's nit making a dent Sad

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 12/09/2011 07:46

Kitty Sad I would take him to the GP I think. It could be reflux where his tummy is irritated from the bug but I would still take him.

Cycle - have you tried feeding in the bathroom while the shower is running really hot to make loads of steam? If you do that at the bedtime feed and then use karvol or olbas oil or whatever. I think we used to prop DS1's mattress a bit as well.
It is grim, because there isn't much you can do.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 12/09/2011 08:20

Cycle - karvol do a plug in that I think is quite good. Also, prop one end of the mattress up by putting a couple of folded towels under one end of the mattress. But tbh there isn't much you can do when lo's have a cold.

Fizz, your mum sounds like a wise woman! You shouldn't beat yourself about ff B, goodness knows you done your best with the pumping.

Daisy - crying yourself until you vomit, whilst isn't pleasant, is quite easy for a baby to do. Their gag reflexes are quite far forward. Some toddlers I know do it too, but that's because they know it's an attention winner.

Nice to hear some aprilites got together for a meet up Smile

Hurrah for P sitting unaided. Ds isn't quite there yet but I can't wait when he can because he's not content for very long when on his back

Cyclebump · 12/09/2011 08:39

I second the support Fizz, you've put up with a lot and done far better than I would have done in that situation. I sent H out with a carton of formula on Saturday in case extra milk was needed as I couldn't pump much. If H needs food he has it and if I can't express of enough it's not my fault.

caramellokoalalover · 12/09/2011 11:13

Cycle you could try saline drops before a feed too if he's still blocked up. Or the snot sucky thing, aspriator or something I think it's called. Also a humidifier in their room can help. I used to rub the karvol balm on a muslin cloth and put it under the sheet just above DS's head too. As ILTMIMI said though, nothing magically works really.

kitty how's S doing now? I think it can take awhile for their digestive systems to get back to normal after a nasty bug. Is he still getting plenty of wet nappies and alert and active while he's awake? Hope he's feeling better today.

We forgot to take pics when we met up the other week ! We'll have to meet up again and snap the Aprilites together.

daisy let me know if the food makes any difference to J's reflux. S's seems to be under control at the moment with meds so I'm just going to sit tight and see what happens. She's 20 wks this week I think and I had her weighed on Thursday and she was 12lbs 12oz so ticking along nicely on the 9th percentile line, not dropping weight anymore so that's made me reassured.

We've had a few days and nights of awful sleep due to S learning how to roll onto her tummy in the cot. She gets onto her tummy in her sleep and when she stirs and finds herself there she freaks out and I have to rescue her and put her back onto her back. Repeat hourly throughout the night. We changed her crib into the cot yesterday and she slept better last night though so hope the worst is behind us. Wonder how long it will take her to work out how to roll the other way.

Off to 'friend' Beetle so I can see this poo pic!

kittycatcat · 12/09/2011 11:36

Yep nappies are wet and he just did the biggest poo ever. Hurrah. He's v happy and alert when awake. You wouldn't know he is poorly.

GlaikitFizzog · 12/09/2011 13:59

Carmello Have you "friended" me instead of Beetle?? Obviously I am happy to be your friend, but there are no poosplosion pics on my FB!!

Much better night from B 8 til 5.30 then back down until 9. Just put him down for his afternoon nap with no hystrionics. Result!!

Pump goes back on Friday, I have my Swing, but I'm getting so little now it's almost not worth it.

It's so windy here. Neighbours are having an extension done and they are just putting the roof on. A sheet of that foil backed insulation blew across the road and hit our house! It's like Kansas, maybe I'll end up in Oz.....

kittycatcat · 12/09/2011 14:42

It's horribly windy isn't it.

Dh had to pull out of the marathon after 6 miles cos of a knee injury.

Cyclebump · 12/09/2011 16:22

Oh no Kitty! I hope he's ok. I have friends who do marathons and it's better that he pulled out than he did more damage I reckon but he must be very disappointed Sad

kittycatcat · 12/09/2011 17:36

Yeah I made him promise to be sensible. As u say better to stop than do long term damage.

MrsWajs · 12/09/2011 17:58

Fizz I have a request from caramello too so perhaps she is just befriending everyone, either that or she can't remember who the RL dairy is so is taking a stab in the dark!! Wink I know I have problems remembering who everyone is!! I've sent a request too to see this poo picture!!
It's sad when your supply starts tailing off isn't it? I hated that part the worst when I was winding down the expressing. I second what everyone else says though, you have done amazingly well. :)
How's the weather with you anyway? It is mega windy here but rain hasn't been too bad so far!

Cycle Can't add much more to what everyone else has suggested but HV was telling us at baby massage today that the toe massage move that we do can help with congestion when babies are bunged up?! Don't know if you've been to a massage class or not and think it might be difficult to try and describe on here!!

Well DP has gone on to nightshift tonight, for the first time ever :( I now appreciate how he feels when I do it - lonely On the bright side I get to watch what ever I want on tv and can mumsnet til the cows come home!! :) I'm not so worried about it just being me and R but DSS comes on a tuesday for tea and sometimes stays so that might be a bit more challenging! Doesn't help that it also coincides with my weight watchers class, a visit to my mums to offload a couple of kids might be in order!!

GlaikitFizzog · 12/09/2011 18:13

DH is stuck somewhere between here and Glasgow! there is a broken down train further up the track. He is waiting for the "alternative" transport!

It has really picked up wind wise here, and thats just B :o!! The recycling is currently blowing around the back garden and the house is actually shaking with the wind! Rain is off and on, but there had been no sunshine here at all today!

I suppose I'd better go cook my meal for one! Who knows what time DH will be in!

The poo picture is on Beetles MN profile though.

BuckminsterFullerene · 12/09/2011 18:30

Just a quick one: F finally had 3 good feeds from the bottles today! 190ml between 8am-5pm (4 feeds of 20ml, 30ml, 50ml and 90ml) Grin

Now I need to work out how much he should be having so I know how much milk to pack.

Back later!

BuckminsterFullerene · 12/09/2011 19:32

And now for the proper, namechecking post!

Natzer - bum, forgot to try the tongue thrust check. I'll have to try tomorrow morning.

ILTMI - glad to hear it's not just my DH! Our town is pretty sleepy, but we've got some questionable neighbours (been lovely to us directly, but have the police round several times a week Hmm)

Fizz - your mum's right. I now feel guilty about not feeling guilty about being back at work! You're doing brilliantly!

Hope the wind stays on the entertaining side of things, and doesn't move into damaging territory. Oh, and hope your DH makes it home ok.

Daisy - what a palaver, your sleepwalking DH! I think F's had the vom-inducing-meltdowns, although it was hard to tell for ages, as he was so sick, and would get so angry, we couldn't see a link or which way it went if there was one.

Hope the weaning goes well! Just 2 more weeks to wait for us!

Chilli - love the weaning picture! Grin

Star - well done P! Maybe that's what all the sleeplessness was all about - another developmental milestone?

Kitty - hope S is better, it must be so worrying for you. Oop - just read he's happy & alert, that's good and reassuring! Shame about your DH's knee, but as others have said, far better than making it worse.

Cycle - whenever F is snuffly we use a saline nasal spray. He hates it initially, and screams, but realises quickly that it clears his nose out brilliantly and usually calms down quickly.

I've also done the bathroom thing as Ali suggested - when F had his bad cold I put him in the bathroom in the bouncy chair while I had a shower (multitasking! Grin). Not sure if it helped, but I got to have a shower!

Caramello - poor you with the nocturnal rolling baby! I dread the day F learns to roll onto his tummy at night. I'm starting to think it's a good thing he's not a great roller! A friend of mine bought an extra-long sleeping bag and tucked it under the mattress to stop her DS rolling around and getting his legs wedged through the cot bars (he managed it even in a sleeping bag!). Might be worth a try?

MrsW - when you say DP is doing the nightshift - do you mean he's getting up with R overnight? I'm half hoping that if F gets good with the bottles I might be able to have a night off. But, I think I'd miss him too! Let us know how it goes.

Ooh, that was a bit massive. But it was good to actually read the thread properly & respond (F was shattered so got to bed early tonight). I should do some work now, I think! Confused

DairyBeetle · 12/09/2011 19:53

Yes, Poo Picture is on my MN profile, just click on my name here and it should take you to my profile. But all the friend requests on FB are very welcome!

Today I had all my mummy friends and their babies over for the afternoon. There are seven of us and today was the first time that we'd all been together with babies instead of bumps. Was a little bit chaotic but then we had an 8month old, 2 x 5 month olds, 2 x 3 and a bit month olds, a 6 week old and a 3 week old, that was a lot of babies in my living room!

Buck Brilliant about the daytime bottle feeds.

Fizz Hope DH gets home soon.

MrsW Hope you don't get too lonely on your own. My DH is away too but the control of the TV remote wore off quickly yesterday as there was bugger all on tv!

Kitty Hope your DH's knee is ok.

Caramello Hope the rolling over novelty wears off soon so you get more sleep. I'm quite glad that so far S only seems to be happy to roll over when naked, means I can get away with leaving him in one spot and him staying there for a little bit longer. Grin

Star Yay for P mastering the sitting on her own!

Cycle I hope H is feeling better.

Sorry if I've missed anyone!

GlaikitFizzog · 12/09/2011 20:48

DH is home! They put taxis on! No wonder trainfares are so high!!

I'm posting quickly because thats the power flickering on and off!! I quite like the idea of waking up in Oz tomorrow!! I have my own ruby slippers! :o

MrsWajs · 12/09/2011 21:06

No buck DP is actually working nightshift, mores the pity!! Not that it would matter as I always do nightfeeds anyway, even at weekends. He did feed R a few times overnight but made such a noise and insisted on waking me up anyway with stupid questions that it was easier for me just to do it (probably all part of his master plan!!) Thankfully at the moment we seem to be back to better sleeping this week so hopefully won't be doing any night feeds as such.......
Good that F is getting better with the bottles though :)

Well I checked the tongue thrust thing and R doesn't seem to have hers anymore, however when I've tried her with babyrice she does seem to push it around and back out again, so maybe it is still there?!?? But anyway, yip not weaning here yet, nope, nope, nope....ahem Hmm
Ok in all seriousness though we have been trying her with little bits and she LOVES it!! She threw a massive tantrum the other day because I was eating an apple and she wasn't getting any, so I peeled and gave her a bit to gum and she was happy as larry!! Other than that she gets babyrice and pureed carrot, apple and sweet potato. Really need to get a book though as not sure how to progress from there, is the anabel karmel one the way to go for pureed stuff? Am gonna start introducing a bit of BLW as well once she's at the 6 months stage.

Dairy Still need to go and check out the pic! Novelty of tv conrol is over here too as all the soaps are finished now!!

BuckminsterFullerene · 12/09/2011 21:13

MrsW - that is tough. DH keeps me sane some nights. x

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 12/09/2011 21:28

kitty your poor DH :(

Fizz - glad DH has made it home!

Yay for everyone who is sitting up/rolling over! Grin

T has decided to start weaning himself today (he's 24 weeks). He grabbed toast at lunchtime, and then this evening he sobbed when I took the potato wedge (homemade) he swiped at the dinner table. So I let him have it back and he ate 3 of them!
It is a little sooner than I would have liked, but he is sitting up without cushions on the floor, no tongue thrust and he has got a proper pincer grip.

Starshaped · 12/09/2011 22:13

Oooh, it sounds like weaning is starting in force for the Aprilites! We'll still be on a milk only diet here for a while longer though. P might be sitting up unsupported but the tongue thrust reflex is definitely still in force. She's like a little lizard!

Buck Fab news about F and the bottles. Hopefully he'll take to them with gusto now.

Fizz Still windy here too but not enough for a power cut I wouldn't think. Glad that your DH has managed to get home ok.

Good luck to those of you whose DH/DP's are on nights or away. I've still not done a night on my own. I know it's a bit pathetic but I'm a bit worried about not having DH around for back up! Blush

GsyGacheFiend · 12/09/2011 22:14

Sounds like T has got the right idea where BLW is concerned Ali Grin

kittycatcat · 12/09/2011 23:00

Glad ur dh is home fizz

Love it Ali

S just woke screaming the hotel down. Took calpol like a good boy and is now dozing in my arms. Hotel screaming is horrid cos u worry more about the noise. Mind u it makes a change that it's us after the last two nights.

Cyclebump · 13/09/2011 07:48

Eugh, another hugely snotty and wheezy night. He went to bed at about 7.45, woke up distressed at 8.30 needing to be resettled then woke up at midnight and spent the rest of the night on me on the sofa again as he was so bunged up he could barely breathe Sad

I propped the mattress, saline sprayed and sucked his nose before bed and had Karvol on a muslin by his head in the cot but nothing worked. DP and I talked about it as I felt bad that I let him sleep on me two nights in a row but he was adamant that the he sleeps in the cot rule doesn't count when he's ill.

Glad your DH got back ok Fizz, sounds horrendous.

That's an AMAZING poo Dairy, looks like it was a 'hose him down in the shower' jobby.
