Thread 4 - that's one a month!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Starshaped · 11/09/2011 07:18

That last message was meant to say 'argh' not 'arch'. Honestly, auto correct on this phone drives me mad!

Last night wasn't too bad once DH got her back to sleep. Just one more feed around 3:30ish.

How was the wedding Ali?

JKSLtd · 11/09/2011 09:43

ILike - well done on party bags and avoiding lots of plastic tat! the fish is inspired, can you just buy them or have you collected loads from crackers over the years?!

Had a day out at London Zoo yesterday so missed all the rugby, hoping to catch the F1 later, and catch up today's rugby & did Andy Murray play last night? I gave up on Federer and went to bed.

Oh and DTD - tis done Blush Have random gynae appt next week and wanted to be able to say all was ok.

DairyBeetle · 11/09/2011 10:00

Why do I think that this week without DH isn't going to be fun? So far we've had non-settling baby yesterday (4 hours of whinging to full on meltdown), he finally zonked out on DH at 10ish and rather than risk trying to get him into his cot we slowly slid him onto our bed and co-slept. S woke at 2.30am for a feed, then DH was up at 4am to get to Heathrow for his flight to Germany (cue an hour of him banging around until the taxi came!). S was awake again at 6.45am but thankfully fed and went to sleep till 8.30. Compared with most this is probably not to bad a night and I shouldn't complain I know.

To add to the night time fun S decided that he'd save the poo'splosion for Mummy today...during nappy free time Shock I'll put the photos on my profile (yes it was so bad it was worthy of photographic evidence for his 18th birthday >evilboak<

Cycle there's always at least one stroppy parent, at least you know right from the start of term who to look out for! (Just before I went on maternity leave I had to give an admissions talk to 50+ parents and prospective students, one of the parents actually complained that I was heavily pregnant as it was, apparently, inappropriate to talk about university while 'in that state', Confused )

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/09/2011 12:30

Lol at inappropriate in that state, what twats!

Can't wait for the poo picture, it sounds like it's going to be a good one Grin

I also lol'd at JKS doing the deed just so she can say all is ok!

I bought the fortune telling fish off eBay, they were really cheap, as were everything I put in the party bags. Maybe I should start a party bag business?!

The whole rugby thing has passed me by completely, is it the world cup?

I was loving Strictly last night. Chinese take away, bottle of fizzy plonk, and Strictly. I was in bloody heaven!

Birthday part two today, we've got the family round. I've made ds a dinosaur cake. Well I say it's a dinosaur cake ,,..... It's a chocolate cake smothered in green buttercream icing with toy dinosaurs artfully arranged on top!

Cyclebump · 11/09/2011 14:09

Am sooo tired today it's unreal. H's cold is producing epic quantities of snot. Poor baby can't sleep properly and it's having a knock-on effect on DP and me.

That parent sounds awful Dairy. but I think I win with the report to my boss that I was so harsh in my lesson that it was 'akin to a young offenders' institution' Sad I am quite strict in my lesson but I only get half an hour and with unto 15 kids you get nothing done if you're not. Am trying not to take it personally.

BuckminsterFullerene · 11/09/2011 19:12

cycle you're a legend! And totally right about being strict. I actually missed that 'firm' interaction with the teenagers while I was on leave. I'm not naturally a lovely mummy type.

Which is my excuse for being so crap and grumpy on Saturday. It was a Bad Day. Much better all round today. Which is good & reassuring. I think it's partly to do with F refusing the bottle, me with sore nips (lazy latch, it seems, combined with a lot of cluster feeding), and therefore feeling like BFing is no longer a want but a need. Which is ridiculous considering I'm at work 5 days a week. Maybe the sleep deprivation has finally sent me mental Hmm. Oh, and partly to do with DH saying ridiculously stupid things about 'days off' on Friday night. Grr.

Glad things are all good kitty.

Beetle, presumably that parent found their child under the gooseberry bush in the 1950s.

Hope the bridesmaiding went well Ali ( it was Ali, wasn't it?)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 11/09/2011 19:15

Hello ladies!

Cycle - rah at the horrid parent, good that your boss backed you though.

Beetle - fingers crossed for your week.

The wedding was fab, and actually the dress was fine - I sewed up the cleavage by about an inch once I was in it which made it a bit less revealing and a bit more secure! My boobs were fit to burst by the time I was able to change and feed T at 5pm!
DH and I were on the dancefloor juggling 2 boys and 2 glasses of champagne and trying to dance GrinGrin

Absolutely shattered now though, and DS1 has got a horrid cold and is mega grumpy. I think we might skip music group first thing and then take a view on tomorrow afternoon's preschool.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 11/09/2011 19:20

x-posts Buck - What was your DH wasn't suggesting? That you should take over just because it's the weekend?

BuckminsterFullerene · 11/09/2011 19:39

Ha! No, Ali, he was moaning that he hadn't had a day off this week.

He had - he just had F at home with him. To which I thought "YOU haven't had a day off this WEEK?! By those standards I haven't had a day or night off for nearly 6 months!"

I said: "right, well, I'm going to bed then. Don't forget to close the patio doors". He did forget. Open all night. And on the same evening he checked the house insurance. I swear I've got 2 children.

So I was feeling overly responsible and under appreciated.

We have talked most of it through. And since the door episode is the 2nd this summer, I've automatically won the right to take the piss out of him and patronisingly remind him of very simple tasks.

Which I think adds up to a healthy marriage, no?

BuckminsterFullerene · 11/09/2011 20:00

ooh, blimey, just seen the weather forecast: batten down the hatches Scots contingent. Stay safe.

And just ordered a new carrier (from Amazon, though, because it's much cheaper!)

GlaikitFizzog · 11/09/2011 20:01

My baby has turned nocturnal. He was awake from 2-6 this morning. Happily chatting to himselfHmm. Then at lunchtime today fed him before getting ready for swimming. He fell asleep and was still sleeping when we were due to leave. So we didn't go and he slept from 1ish until 5. He just had a pre bedtime meltdown but has settled to sleep now.

I had a baby who would sleep from 8 til 6. Where has he gone? He is now on 5 7oz bottles a day and I think he would take more if offered.

He's 19 weeks. Sitting up unaided in his highchair and I'm not too sure what the tongue thrust is or how to check of it's gone. I need your opinions on maybe starting baby rice or porridge? It's too early isn't it?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 11/09/2011 20:01

Sounds pretty healthy to me Wink

And by his reckoning, I've had about 72 hours off in the last 3.2 years Grin

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 11/09/2011 20:05

Fizz x posts. If you think he would take more milk then I would give it. It's really common for babies to reverse cycle at this kind of age.

BuckminsterFullerene · 11/09/2011 20:16

I've kidnapped the sleeper Fizz!
Oh no, wait a minute, I haven't. And F was up 3 times last night

F's 24 weeks tomorrow and I've spent all day trying not to think about steaming carrot sticks for him! I don't know what the tongue thrust is either, but I'm pretty sure it's gone - judging by the gusto with which the gaviscon disappears off the spoon.

this will help you resist (if that's what you want).

Thanks Ali!

Cyclebump · 11/09/2011 20:25

Sounds good to me Buck, I think ritual teasing is crucial to lurve...

Natzer · 11/09/2011 20:32

OK, I've just googled tongue thrust, apparently if you gently press the bottom lip, if the tongue sticks out then they aren't ready for solids. If they don't stick their tongue out they are ready.

Dammit she's alseep, will have to wait til morning. Grin

DairyBeetle · 11/09/2011 20:45

Photos for the future humiliation of my son are now on my profile... Grin

Buck I am Envy of the Ergo. I'm thinking of trying to persuade DH that he I wants one!

And maybe it's a man thing with the patio doors, my DH has left ours open too many times to count...but then I'm terrible for leaving my keys in the front door Blush so I guess we're on equal footing when it comes to piss taking!

Ali I'm glad the wedding went well and have a brilliant image in my head of you and you DH juggling your boys and champagne!

BuckminsterFullerene · 11/09/2011 21:12

oh my god, beetle, that is truly... amazing! He looks so pleased with himself too!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/09/2011 21:15

Woah Dairy, that is some pretty impressive pooing from ds! He is going to hate you for that in years to come Grin

Dh often leaves the back door open or unlocked. Luckily we live in a village in Suffolk ....

Give B more milk Fizz, and remember that things will ALWAYS change, and just when you've got used to one thing, something will change. Sleep in particular can be up and down for a couple of years, and often you can't attribute it to anything.

Glad the wedding went well Ali. I bet that by 5pm you were desperately shoving T on. Ahhhhhhhh, the relief!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 11/09/2011 21:44

I just pressed DS2's lip and he took my hand away. Tried again and he latched on Grin I'll try again in the morning!
He will not sleep - grrrrrr.

GlaikitFizzog · 11/09/2011 21:46

Geezo DairyBeetle! That is a poo to be proud of!! I'm particularly impressed by the way he's managed to spread the love around the changing mat!!

I think I'm having the guilt again about him now being totally FF and contributing his sleep changes to that. It's probably not connected, but I can't help but put 2 and 2 together and get 5! I'm stepping away from the weaning spoons!!

My mum was right when she said, if you are not worrying about something you will be feeling guilty about something else!

We are bracing ourselves here for the tail end of Katia. DH is at a seminar in Glasgow tomorrow, so I just have to hope the trains aren't affected for him getting home! There's a chance we'll have power cuts too. everytime there is a lot of rain or high winds our power goes off!! I'll just have to keep a flask of water on the go, just in case!!

daisylulu · 11/09/2011 22:37

Quick update whilst I have 5 mins. Sorry not to namecheck properly but I'm typing from iPhone and can't scroll back.

Ali I was also a bridesmaid this weekend too. Glad yours went well. J wasn't invited to wedding so was very odd havjng first night away from her. I missed her loads but think it did DH and I good. I was hoping for a good nights sleep but DH started sleepwalking at 2am and said 'don't you care that the vampires are trying to suck Js blood' !(we've been watching True Blood boxset). Needless to say it totally freaked me out and I then couldn't really sleep all night....grrrrrr.

My mum babysit and j was brilliant . However when it came to bedtime
J had a tantrum that resulted in her making herself sick Sad has anyone elses LOs cried so much they've vomited? My mum said it was a really quick but really loud tantrum - as soon as she had been sick she calmed down and went to sleep (my mum had been cuddling her throughout the whole episode as j likes to be cuddled to sleep, but it seems like only by me!)

We started j on baby rice and apples yesterday on advice of gastro paed. I wanted to wait until 6 months but after reflecting for a few days decided we should listen to the expert.. We gave her a very teeny tiny amount. It went down well Grin i spent the afternoon puréeing sweet potato and carrot as don't want her to get a sweet tooth- am introducing new stuff very very gradually though.

Hope everyone has a good restful night.

chillikat · 11/09/2011 22:54

Quick post before bed. We've started weaning this weekend at 24 weeks - carrot yesterday, sweet potato today. The sweet potato photo will be funny for years to come - I'll post it on Facebook tomorrow :o not sure how much food actually got eaten but she was keen for each spoonful.

Starshaped · 11/09/2011 23:19

Wowsers! That is epic Dairy. Impressive stuff!

Exciting times here today - P seems to have mastered sitting up unsupported. She seems very pleased with her new party trick!

kittycatcat · 12/09/2011 04:36

S was fine all day Sunday but just woke us up being sick quite alot. It's lumpy. He started being ill wed and it's now monday. Is it normal for bugs to last this long. He also has smelly wind but no poo since sat I think.
