Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Or candrcane, you know like wot you hang on the tree?

Ssmile and Candr, I've had some days like that where DD has just been a complete koala and clung to me; it's so frustrating. She seems to have suddenly got really sensitive to light and won't sleep during the day if it's too bright. I've just put her to bed in her cot, in a darkened room coz she won't doze in the living room in the bloody expensive swing that I bought for her!

Snowysebs, where are you that you're forecast snow? It's still ludicrously warm here in Cornwall and I've not yet put the heating on! I cannot believe that it was deep snow this time last year. The sandblasting sounds quite full on but I'm sure the ILs didn't care a bit, they were there to see your DD and you and DH and I bet they had a lovely time.

Ssmile, yyy to a 'day off'. Wouldn't that be lovely? The furthest I've been without DD is a 5 min walk down to the village shop a fortnight ago which felt very weird indeed. My HV keeps telling me that I must arrange to do an exercise class by myself one evening a week but it's not that easy is it? It's not as though DH can BF DD to sleep the way that I can and I can't help but feel that it would be unfair to him, DS and DD if I leave them all to battle it out at bedtime without me.

Hi everyone
Lo is much much better now thank god! Sleeping well and has now became less clingy than he was when ill. He is now also drinking his normal amount of milk and growing fast currently 14lb and he is only 8 weeks old!

My heart goes out to you all that are having problems with your LO sleeping

Christmas shopping all done but none wrapped yet hoping to do that tonight or tomorrow nearly everyone is getting pictures of LO in one form or another lol

I need a christmas name!! Suggestions please!

LovesBloominChristmas · 05/12/2011 18:20

JoJoJoHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 21:26

Thanks ssmilewithfairylights Xmas Smile

falalalalagirl · 05/12/2011 22:38

Wow, Loves, was it a full 12 hour stint? I'm Xmas Shock and Xmas Envy of your full night's kip!

Are you all doing dream feeds? I did with DS but I haven't so far with DD as I decided that I would properly feed on demand this time round. I'm curious as to whether she would go all night if I did dream feed but it became a bit of a rod for my back with DS.

Minkyjj · 06/12/2011 00:54

Loving your new tags - didn't quite manage to get on the pc today as ds1 was up last night with ear ache and as he had a gromit op when he was very small and hearing problems it was a dash to see the gp who confirmed it is a bad infection and he is now on antibiotics and painkillers. Went to school to drop in school dinners order for next half term and wished I hasn't as there were far too many ill kiddies waiting to be collected by parents as a result of the dreaded winter vomiting bug - I so hate this time of year, I spend my whole waking time dreading and fearing that one of us will get it. Have such a phobia. Anyway, even contemplated keeping ds1 at home for next two weeks until break up to avoid the risk but then sods law would be that dd would bring it home or we would get it from another source !
Still feeling rough - 4 weeks into this blasted throat and chest virus. Poor ds1 is having nosebleeds as well as ear ache - bless him, he never complains. I also have chronic back pain as my joint condition is starting to deteriorate with the drop in pregnancy hormones - moan, rant and rave !
Smile - I know exactly how you feel, frustration with a capital f. I so wish I could just enjoy lo without the guilt of everything I am not doing - trying but not easy if you are usually a do-er. Cannot even begin to imagine how I would cope with sandblasting - think you are amazing !
Off to sleep now - please let it be deep and refreshing and long Wink

snowysebs · 06/12/2011 12:17

Minky - hope things get better ... It is a tough part of the year

Falalalala - I live in north Wales but about 1000 feet up so if it's going to snow we'll get it! It's been freezing and we live in an old stone house so pretty cold at night - heating been on for ages! Lo was in a hat to sleep last night! Snow didn't come yestaerday but I've vacated house again today - decamped to my dad's until 3 when I have to get back for DSD ... Hoping they finish sand blasting today. There was a little smattering of snow but fingers crossed no more. Think more forecast for friday for us .

So need to get presents sorted - we were going to go weekend but now have the kids (their mum decided she is away... How convenient) so that's scuppered those plans and oh's parents up following weekend. Must get on Internet!! At least we can take kids shopping to buy each others presents and theirs for oh and their mum. I am always a last minute person...

ssmileWithFairylights · 06/12/2011 16:34

Wow* loves enjoy the sleep very Xmas Envy but I can't complain too much Lo was Fab last night as I got 5hrs sleep,45min feed resettle then another 3hrs sleep oooh I felt like a different person today was SO nice. Not enjoying the hair coming out though, my hair longish and dark so really noticing handfuls coming out now when I wash or brush it.
Lo much easier to look after today, we went around supermarket she actually fell asleep in the baby chair on the trolley, then settled herself for half hr nap in her cot at lunchtime with no crying. She still prefers sleeping ON me during daytime though. So I sat watched Jnr Apprentice whilst she had hours sleep on my chest :)
sebs sandblasting ugh horrid when building dust gets everywhere I've had 3yrs of it, so nice our place is nearly all done now.
feralgirllalala I'd be impressed if anyone makes it out to an exercise class in the eve with baby this small, I try to squeeze some walks, and bit cycling in when DH home at weekend but still feel vfat n unfit.

snowysebs · 06/12/2011 17:34

I agree... feeling v. fat and unfit... wasnt too bad post birth, but have put on loads since - eating like I was still pregnant, but have got my crappy metabolic rate back... will diet after New Year (I lost 3 stone a couple of years ago and kept it off, so hoping to do the same - but harder now as don't live on my own now) - too many mince pies around to do any dieting now! But determined to diet as have little to wear but don't want to buy any more size 16 clothes...

Ssmilewithfairylights - good sleep!!! Xmas Envy My LO is 3 months on Friday but still not sleeping through. Having odd night where she won't settle after feed in the night and ends up in our bed (which means I have a numb tingly arm all day from sleeping on it badly) - last night being on of those nights, but thinking cold weather didn't help either.

(Do you think Lord Sugar actually wanted the other team to go through rather than fire them?? Think he liked the Harrys! Xmas Grin)

YAYAYAY! They've finished sandblasting Xmas Grin ... but so dusty in here Xmas Shock ... at least OH is bringing takeaway home! Kitchen covered in a fine layer of dust. Need to blitz tonight and tomorrow now - just hope doesn't irritate LO.

Well, LO is demanding attention so best get playmat out and let her kick kick kick... so nice to not have to cook tonight!!! (Even if it means loads of cleaning later...)

the100yearsofchristmas · 06/12/2011 18:08

Ssmile. I have been very poor at my exercise recently. I started doing stuff then got tired from doing a lot of things and stopped, I need to get back into it. It's my birthday this weekend and everyone keeps asking me what I want. Well TBH I have what I had longed for and just don't have that need for monetary things, so it's been hard to make a list, I've put a few DVDs and smellies down, but like you I would like a full night's sleep, and someone to run around after me for a bit instead of me doing it! But I wouldn't range things.

falalala, happy birthday to your DS for the other day. :) John Lewis are fab, we bought a table and chair from them a while ago and one of the chairs was broken, they sent us the whole set again as a replacement and didn't ring to arrange collection of the broken set, so we have 2 little tables and 3 chairs now :) as opposed to 1 table and 2 chairs. We did end up buying a new chair from somewhere else, but one has broken in the past few months, was only cheap and we will get a proper set when we buy a house, but for now this works fine. We managed to change the rug for the same one on Sunday :) I've had a few hours 'off' by going into town myself and shopping, but LO decided that she would then have a melt down while I was out. I've also been out a couple of times running, but that's it so far. And evenings would be a no go as LO cluster feeds in the evening and we are only just into a sort of night time routine for OH to pick it up now would possibly be hard for a while, going to leave it to me till after the festivities are done and the trips away are done before we see if she settles properly for OH.

Minky, hope you get better soon. And if you want to use festive hats you have to physically type in [ fsmile ] without the spaces around between the brackets and the word. That gives you Xmas Smile and [ fgrin ] gives you Xmas Grin on the iPhone app the smilies are all there easy to use, but you need to type them in if you want christmas stuff. The night was much better thanks :)

candr, how was your night? Yeah LO loves nappy off time, but I limit it to being on the changing table either in the morning or in the evening.

snowy, sandblasting sounds horrible, hope the dust doesn't stay long.

jojohoho, wow to your LO weight. Mine was 11lb 10 at 12 weeks!

Love, excellent news on one of yours sleeping through :)

Well, what's new with me....

LO has on a couple of occasions now settled herself to sleep in her cot in the evening by sucking her thumb to sleep. I put the music on and I think she knows that it's sleep time, starts thumb sucking and last night was asleep in less than 5 mins after putting the music on! So my hard work is paying off. I hope it lasts, I'm prepared to stick with it and keep doing exactly the same thing every night as it's working at the moment. I don't know how long it will work for, or if this is it now and she is going to go down now for me, but it's nice to have an hour before bed myself after putting her down. :)

My tree is up, and my OH got a work email today about how dangerous certain types of lights are and so we have ordered some new ones as the ones we have are straight from the plug as opposed to having a transformer between the plug and the lights.

I think my LO may be teething a bit, as she's doing some gnawing, and when I put my knuckle or finger on her gums she chomps and makes happy noises! But she definitely doesn't want feeding at that point.

And I'm also after ideas as to what to use to help her sit. She is lifting her head off the floor when on her back, she is pulling herself forward when in the bouncy chair and is properly holding her head up without a problem, lifting her head off the floor loads when on her front too. I've heard some bad reviews about a bumbo when LO are wriggly little things they try and throw themselves out of it backwards etc and my LO is a proper wriggler and so I am not all that keen on getting one. But I think we need something for LO to use to help her sit until she can support herself. Does anyone have any ideas, other than propping her up with loads of pillows and cushions.

I'm not sure if I'm coming down with something myself, but it's come to nothing so far, maybe it's my body knowing that OH isn't feeling great and when he gets better I'll then go down with whatever I've got lurking. I hope it waits till after Saturday when it's my birthday, my first as a mummy :)

ssmileWithFairylights · 06/12/2011 19:18

snowysebs I suspected it was expected to he the two Harrys in the final two, now I expect Zara to win even though she is exactly the sort of person Lord Sugar would not choose! I've enjoyed watching it though.
100yrsofchristmas well done on your routine sounds like its working. We always had to have gd routine with DD1 to get her to sleep and a music cd. This one I've not needed the music but have now realised this could be a problem when they share a room with one needing music and one not! Hohum will tackle that when need too. I had hoped by 6mths we could put them in together but now I'm not so sure, as DD1 wakes up with slightess excuse still.
Going to try and make some more salt dough tom, had ago at weekend as was trying to make imprint of babes hands &feet &make Xmas decorations with DD1 but it didn't work very well so binned them. Since found different mix. Anyone else tried it or got another safe way to make hand/feet imprints? I wondered about clay but wasn't sure what type to use.

snowysebs · 06/12/2011 22:26

100years - well done on night routine. Think we need to be stricter but with the other two older kids it's harder as they need sorting too. Mind you the first part of night is generally ok- it's after her middle of the night feed thats the worst part

I'll be interested to see what replies you get about sitting LO up - I was thinking of the bumbo. But not sure yet.

Hope you don't come down with anything, especially around birthday.

Ssmile - not sure about prints sorry. And yes think Zara will win.

Finished cleaning house - knackered now!! Will need another going over on weekend but better than before although throat hurts now and was heaven to take contact lens out!!

Night!! Hope sleep fairies kind to all Xmas Wink

the100yearsofchristmas · 06/12/2011 22:56

I might have to see what happens if we go musicless one evening if it still works. She falls asleep sucking her thumb now so it might just be an added bonus for her having the music. It's not always on till she falls asleep as sometimes it's finished by the time I've chattered through the days events and fed her a bit. But it'son before she drops off. Could u turn the music gradually down till its barely audible and then just not have it at all? Would that work?

the100yearsofchristmas · 06/12/2011 23:00

Sorry sebs hadn't refreshed screen before typing. On my phone. I have had a few replies on fb and a few people are saying just pillows/cushions. One or two said highchair but obviously would need to be right one for enough support at this age and someone else said jumperoo. Will see how we get on with the cushions for now.

MinkyjjMincyPies · 07/12/2011 00:31

Just a quick post to see whether I managed to change my tag .... Here goes ....

MinkyjjMincyPies · 07/12/2011 01:44

[FGrin] now did that work or do I now just look stupid ?
Brilliant news on the end to sandblasting, brilliant sleeping ability of some of our little ones, up and coming birthdays and generally the super mummyness of everyone on this thread.
Just spent the evening uploading loads of photos of lo onto snapfish as they have an offer on at the moment that means you can get up to 100 photos printed for 1p each. Cost me £2.49 for 100 photos delivered which I am going to give to family as extra presents. You need to enter a code at checkout but if you can't find it online let me know and I can post it.
Ds1 still not over his ear infection but is begging to go back to school as there is alot happening so will hope for the best tomorrow. Off out with lo tomorrow with a group of ladies for Christmas get together lunch - cannot wait !
Eyelids are closing so night all

the100yearsofchristmas · 07/12/2011 05:36

Hey Minkyjjmincepies :) lovely idea with the pic thing :) you needed to use lower case for the fgrin bit but you had the right thing :)

LovesBloominChristmas · 07/12/2011 07:28

Morning folks

It wasn't 12 hrs, put him down at about 10-10:30 when I went to bed and he woke at 7am. Dd woke twice though, including wetting the bed, but I can cope with one waking up up. It's when they both wake 2/3 times each, at dufferntvtimes that's tge killer. This is my third day in a row with both sleeping till 7am. Typical cause I've just ordered a groclock for dd. Ds hasn't slept through again yet, twice waking up the night after going through and once last night, although that was at 4;45 so getting closer I feel.

Ds is al dribbling and gnawing, his sleepsuit and sleeping bag are wet when I've just picked up up to feed. Plus am having a couple of times where he is clamping down on my nipple ouch!

As usual am on my phone so hard to remember who said what but will try and remember what I was going to say.

Bumbo - had one with dd, even had tge tray but she hardly sat in it cause she was flinging herself back and therefore not very safe. If you're not sure you could get one off eBay or buy one and see how you go and take it back if not (naughty I know).

I know someone mentioned tge jumperoo, I cannot speak highly enough about it. Dd had one and it was the best thing she ever had! It really is one of my favourite memories to think of her bouncing away to the theme of hollyoaks. She used to go mental when it was on Xmas Grin

Must remember to do more nappy free time. Ds got a couple of sore bits recently, thinkbit was linked to me being I'll/taking tablets. When dh changed his nappy last night, one had bleed Sad

I'm not doing an exercise either at the moment, remember I'd dine well with losing weight and only need a couple/3 pounds to drip to the next stone? Well instead I put on but have managed to get back again. Maybe by Xmas? Mum says she wants to buy me some new cloths for Xmas. Must admit I do look like ice been ill sometimes they are very baggy. Just can't afford to buy any, money is so tight right now. Am having a credit card Xmas Sad and will be looking for a ft job after in the new year double Sad. I had 10 months off with dd and went back to my ft job but was made redundant shortly after so didn't work again for another year then got a pt job. Pt really isn't gonna cut tge mustard anymore though. Dh got cut to 4 days a while ago and it has now squeezed us quite tight. Luckily his hours should start increasing a bit now it's cold though. Probably the only one if us glad it's colder!

Anyway thinkbi can hear dd stiring see you soon Xmas Grin

ssmileWithFairylights · 07/12/2011 14:59

100 with DD1 she spent lots time sitting in our plastic laundry basket with a cushion or the babybath with her toys :o much cheaper than a bumbo this was from 4-5mths old. I've also made a V shaped beanbag which is gd once babe is 5mths+ and got more body strength to sit against with out slumping.

Are you ok jimmijam been quiet lately?

the100yearsofchristmas · 07/12/2011 15:46

Loves I'm getting the. Chomping on nipple thing too occasionally and trying to feed when LO sucks her thumb but she has on occasion refused the boob and put her thumb or fingers in her mouth. It was me that said about the jumperoo, thanks.

Ssmile I'll look at using the baby bath and put pillows round her :)

LO is much out of sorts this afternoon, she's sleeping on me and stirred a couple of times with a sad cry and sad face, it's different to when she's screamed before this is properly sad :( then gone back off to sleep, poor thing. But I'm enjoying the sitting here doing nowt and cuddling her. I'm not feeling 100% yet, sound croaky too but so far it's come to nothing still. We go away tomorrow so I hope it doesn't get worse.

Thinking of using a bit of lansinoh stuff on LO's thumb where she's been sucking as its quite red and sore looking. Figured it's safe on boob so should be on if she sucks on it on her thumb.

ssmileWithFairylights · 07/12/2011 19:23

Hope u don't both get sick 100yrsofchristmas and enjoy your time away.
My Lo been mega sucking fingers and tryin.to stuff her whole fist in her mouth and making herself choke! I've been giving her a muslin to chew on and we have been trying with a few toys which she is now taking a lot more interest in. She is no longer prepared to sit in her bouncy chair and just watch the world around her she wanting a lot more interactiion which is gd but can be hard when I'm trying to get stuff down. However the bonus is that now DD1 can interact with her more as she is desperate for a sister who actually plays with her Xmas Grin I suspect this new 'love' of her baby sis will diminish when she starts chewing all her toys too :o

candrcane · 07/12/2011 19:52

Yeah, like the name - cheers. Well had 2 days of nearly non stop crying / screaming and lack of sleep but on day 3 he slept for 2 hours in morn and did 3 big poos, has been back to cheery little self thank goodness but at night where I used to be able to feed him then we would both lie down to sleep he wants to stay attatched even when not sucking and cries if I move, took till 2am ish to get him to sleep without boob in mouth. Has also started chewing fist and retching on it so think it may be teething as some of you have same issue - wish he would accept a dummy. Has also got quite clingy with me but I am going out for meal on Fri without DH or DS (will feel really strange) so hope he will take bottle and let DH settle him. Bet I come home and find them both asleep on couch. Has jabs on Fri morn too so hope any reaction is over by the time I need to leave.

jimmijam · 07/12/2011 20:11

hello all!! hope urr all doing well and enjoying parenthood. sorry I havent been on recently, my new phone wont load up the mn threads :-( and i dont get much time to come on the computer with 3 kids. hope 2 b able 2 catch up soon
best wished to you all :)

falalalalagirl · 07/12/2011 21:21

100, I have a bumbo that I used for DS very successfully from about 4.5 months, before he could sit up properly. I have since then read stuff saying that you shouldn't encourage babies to sit up artificially before they're ready though as it can be bad for their hips. However it didn't seem to do any harm to DS so I suppose that, like all these things, it's fine so long as they're not left for too long. DS had a tray on his bumbo so really handy for picnics in the garden once he was 6mo, also good coz you can put it in the shower and hose it off to clean it!

I use my widgy feeding pillow to sit DD up on the bed and she usually sits in her swing chair when downstairs. I quite fancy one of those door frame jumper things - again, I know they're supposed to be bad for their hips but it's not like I'll leave her in it all day!

And yes to the routine thing at bedtime. I have been doing the exact same thing with DS every single night for the last three years! He didn't sleep through for ages but he has always been brilliant at going to sleep as soon as he goes to bed. I have tried to play the same music to DD that DS had but she doesn;t like any sort of stimulation at all when she's tired, she just screams until I turn it off.

I made DD a taggy blanket today to suck on and she hasn't let go of it, she's also gnawing away like a little rodent so obviously her gums are hardening in preparation for those pesky little teeth! At least we can all go through the dribbling and wailing together (and that's just us, not the babies!)

Loves we are also having a credit card xmas and I am just doing the ostrich about money until I get back to work in the late spring. We'll get by somehow...

Minky, hope you had a nice lunch and that your DS is feeling better toady. Ear infections are just horrid; I used to suffer dreadfully as a kid and DS has inherited my tendency for them. It is miserable Sad

And finally, yes, I think Sugar was gutted that the Harrys lost on YA; they were far and away the better team imo. I think Zara (sp?) will win, even though she's a bit of a madam!

Finally, finally, just being nosy; what are you all getting the babies for christmas? I said I wouldn't get much for DD as she won't appreciate it but I've spent way more than I originally intended. I've got her a Sophie the Giraffe and a whoozit teething toy and some nice mobiles, wall stickers and a name plate for the door for when she moves into her own room.
