BBL ha ha, someone told me 3rd babies were a nightmare and I dismissed it, even though the midwife seemed to agree when I asked her. How wrong was I?! 2 false alarms (how embarrassing when you've done it twice before?!) and then 13 hours, when the other two were 5 and 3.... maybe nature's way of population control?!!

skorpion could you have a homebirth? That's what a friend of mine did and it was very quick, smooth and sorted out their childcare conundrum. Don't fret about not being prepared, that's what happens the 2nd time and beyond but it's like riding a bike ... you'll just switch into the right mode as and when it happens and all will be fine.

ursi sorry to hear your mil is being such a pain. Whilst I'm not condoning her behaviour at all, do rest assured that children are well able to adapt to different rules for different people, so the holding hands when crossing the road thing won't be a problem. She will know that Mummy requires that even if you get an initial challenge to the boundary. And I've always found that children are like mini police when it comes to 'bad' behaviour in adults - Both DD when she was young, and DS1 now like to point out any bad words that pass our lips ... and DS1's favourite thing these days is to read the speed limit signs, and then check the speedo in the car and announce when DH or I am breaking the speed limit Hmm

skorpion · 02/09/2011 19:43

Ursi, hope you have survived! Sorry to hear that your MIL is like that. I hope it is like Scarlotti says - and she does not see Paula often enough for the influence to become permanent.

Scarlotti, believe me, it is something I considered. However, having had an emergency CS with Lucy and the subsequent meeting with a VBAC MW, who told me there was just no way she could have been born naturally, it worries me a bit. I sort of feel I am about to do this for the very first time... The MW told me they wouldn't accept me at the mw led unit this time, only the hospital so I haven't even bothered asking about a home birth...

On a similar note, I have just been re-reading my Ina May Gaskin book and made DH to read it, too (well, I didn't do a good job preparing him last time so thought this would help). First thing he did was to check the local hospital records for % of births without intervention, as Ina May states 98% on her 'Farm'... 44% at the Horton, 51% at JR. Was a bit shocked at that tbh.
I have also just read an interesting book on the subject by Naomi Wolf regarding the state of affairs in the USA. Let's just say that both have made me wish I could have a home birth...

Hi ladies! just a quick update, not sure when I will have time for more.
Anton Johann was born on the 3rd, with 3.755kg after a fairly quick and easy labour. We are home and fine, things are a bit crazy but my mum is here and constantly cooking.... and I am constantly feeding :)

Fruitpastels · 06/09/2011 18:24

Congratulations Ursi! What a lovely name. Glad to hear the birth went smoothly. Hope you manage some rest. Looking forward to hearing from you soon x

JuicyLips · 07/09/2011 10:18

Congratulations Ursi! What a beautiful name. Glad it went well. Xx

skorpion · 07/09/2011 10:28

Conatulations Ursi and Family!!! Hope you are well looked after, Ursi, sounds like you are :)

skorpion · 07/09/2011 10:38

Not much to report here, apart from great news that a friend has agreed to help out with Lucy when the time comes and another one said she'd be on standby too if the first one is not around. Feel very relieved and a bit emotional (hormones...) and touched by people's generosity.

On a funny note, Lucy has a new word, her own version of 'samolot' (Polish for airplane).... 'bollock'. Nice touch when you live next to a deli/cafe with tables just the other side of your fence, packed with people on a nice day, perfect for lots of planes to be spotted in the air... :o:o:o

scarlotti · 07/09/2011 21:57

ursi hooray and huge congrats to you all Grin Lovely name and great middle name (Ioan is the Welsh derivative of Johann so I might be biased!!) Glad it all went well and that your Mum is there to look after you. Hope Paula likes her new little brother

skorpion glad you have someone to help cover for Lucy, I'd forgotten you are having a VBAC when I'd suggested a home birth... it will all be fine so try not to worry. Loving Lucy's new word GrinGrin

All good here, DS1 went back to school on Monday and is enjoying it. He seems even more grown up this year! Ioan is doing really well, can't believe that he will be 2 in a couple of month - time flies!

helips · 10/09/2011 05:48

Hello all,

been away for so long, lurking but not having time to post. Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Ursi on the arrival of your little boy! Love the name and hope you are enjoying your newborn!

I've had a very busy summer with lot's of visitors. First my brother, his girlfriend and their 3 children came to stay, then my in-laws were here for 5 weeks! I literally have had no time for mums netting! Anyway, I am now back, woo hoo!

I have finally stopped breastfeeding. In the end it just happened, I went away for the weekend with just dh so M didn't have her bedtime feed for two nights and when we got back she didn't ask for it so I didn't offer and that was that! I'm really surprised at how easy it was to stop and how I don't feel too upset about it. After a week M pointed to my boob and said 'milk?' and I just replied that it's all gone now, she seemed ok with that, bless her! Now though I am feeling broody for number 3!

Will have more of a read through and catch up properly now before M wakes from her nap!

Ninjacat · 10/09/2011 15:14

Congrats Ursi Smile

MsInterpret · 10/09/2011 16:56

Congratulations Ursi! And welcome Anton X

JuicyLips · 13/09/2011 12:23

WOW school's back and am enjoying the time with Annabelle by herself for a change (apart from her not wanting to nap and taking off her pull-up every time I try to put her down!) Ds seems so grown up now he's in year 1 and seems to be enjoying school, so all my fears of him finding it difficult are unfounded so far. Annabelle has now started to use the toilet quite frequently so thats really good, and finding it refreshing that she wants to use it, as ds never wanted to go without me having to ask him. Sentences are coming along well, she is putting three or four words together now, like "daddy at work now." Or "NooOoo! Annabelle do it!" How is everyone else doing so far?

ursigurke · 14/09/2011 10:45

Thank you all for the congratulations! And welcome back to all those we haven't seen for a while.
Things here are easier than expected as Anton is still sleeping a lot and even in the crib. I remember that was a huge problem with Paula. So I hope it stays like this for a while.
If he is not sleeping he is feeding like mad and vomitting and pooing. So we go through a lot of muslin squares and cloths these days.
Paula seems to have grown soooo much in these last 10 days. I finally had to realise that she isn't a baby any more. She is mostly doing well with Anton which is great. She loves singing at the moment and sometimes we get a medley of 4 or 5 songs mixed and you can actually recognize them. Well, she is more shouting than singing. Very useful when I try to sing to her to get her to sleep when she suddenly starts to shout her mixture of Bah bah black sheep and Twinkle twinkle :)
I hope everybody else is doing well and enjoying our funny toddlers

helips · 14/09/2011 13:02

Ahh that's so sweet Ursi, Millie likes to sing too and her favourite thing is to sing twinkle twinkle little....Millie and then she laughs her head off! Glad Anton is being an easier baby and hope Paula is enjoying being a big sister!

skorpion · 15/09/2011 12:24

Ursi, that's lovely! Glad Anton is sleeping well, how are you finding the nights?

Bump still here. TBH I'm getting more and more fed up, as I feel quite achey (back, ouch!) and tired. Don't remember feeling this bad with Lucy, even at 10 days overdue. Next Wednesday is the due date and I just want it to happen NOW! We're pretty much packed and ready, so just twiddling thumbs.

Juicy, glad DS is enjoying school. Am very impressed by Annabelle's toilet skills, Lucy will gladly sit on the potty, but only fully clothed. Refuses to present her naked bum to it, though...

MsInterpret · 16/09/2011 22:38

Good luck Skorpion! Hope you have some news soon!

Rosa did a proper wee on the potty today! Previously just, ahem, dribbles... Grin

Back to work full time Sad so not time to post or even lurk much but thinking of you and your little ones often.

scarlotti · 18/09/2011 09:15

Another busy bee here so little time to post! All going ok though, although not even thinking about potty training here!!!

Lots of funny chat and songs though, so plenty of entertainment.

skorpion thinking of you and hoping all goes well when the time comes.

Big wave to everyone else Grin

ursigurke · 21/09/2011 07:26

skorpion, thinking of you and wondering if you are already mother of two. good luck anyway :)

skorpion · 22/09/2011 13:54

Well, due date been and gone... Thank you for thinking of me. I'm sure it will come soon, nobody is ten months pregnant, are they...??

Ursi, hope you, DH and the children are doing well. Is your mum still around to help out?

DontWorryBaby · 23/09/2011 16:13

Skorpion Hope baby doesn't keep you waiting too long. Thinking of you.

Waves to everyone else. Trying to finish a big uni assignment which is a struggle with toddler & baby. Hubby still unemployed so the good thing about that is he can help with the boys while I work! Hope everyone else is well as we approach second birthdays...!

helips · 25/09/2011 13:16

Good luck Skorpion hope you have your snuggly baby in your arms soon!

It's been a week of illness in this household. Ds has been ill all week and now I think Millie is coming down with it (or teething). I can't remember the last time I had a decent night sleep and dh is at the Singapore Grand Prix tonight so I will have to cope with two poorly children on my own. Ive asked him not to get too drunk as he might be needed but I doubt that will stop him! Its not even 8.30pm but I'm thinking of going to bed, so tired!

Hope everyone else is doing ok, we must all be busy as this thread is very slow moving!

Pavlovthecat · 25/09/2011 13:21

i am still here, vaguely lurking but mostly being a manic mum! I shall go read and see what has been happening. I have so missed you guys!

Pavlovthecat · 25/09/2011 13:23

ursi a belated congratulations! and welcome to Anton!!! Skorpion, hope all is ok with you x
