mlic cross-posted re bedding - that sounds a good and cheap solution re using a single quilt! Think I'll try that first.

Also, why on earth is cotbed bedding miles more expensive than single bed bedding?

Just read re bumbos www.babyandbump.com/baby-club/284527-if-your-baby-wont-poo-has-trapped-wind-try-bumbo.html. Looks worth a go for windy/holding-onto-poo babies!

The only problem for me is that A always does super-blaster, leaky poopernovas so will be regularly disinfectanting the bumbo!

CakeandRoses · 26/10/2010 13:06

gah!

try this

memphis83 · 26/10/2010 14:05

cakes im shocked by it too, i think its because my stepmum knows she wont be having anymore kids, she also says when hes naughty he has time out in his room/cot, what she doesnt think about is the fact that he isnt learning anything because he isnt staying in there by choice its like putting him in a cage! shes in for a shock when hes in a bed! he is 4 in feb and only last week became totally out of nappies!! my dad said you have this to come...er no dad i dont think so! love the term poopernovas by the way, we have been close to explosion but we havent yet had it explode yet, although we are now finally in size 3 nappies and they are leaking like when he was born wakes up most days wet! my little fat chunk doesnt have a bum to tighten nappy too!!

Chulita · 26/10/2010 14:19

cakes another thing with cotbed size stuff is getting the cheapass single size and just sewing 2 edges off to make it cotbed size (I hate sewing btw, won't do anything that takes longer than 30 mins absolute max!)

Shock at 4 yo in cot! What about at school? that's horrible for the little boy!

S holds on to his poo for a week at a time...oops, DD's knocking on her door, better let her out!

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/10/2010 15:04

Dylan weighs 15lb 6oz now :)

The hv told me a way to teach Dylan to self settle so Im going to start poss tonight if not tomoro.
She also told me to get a cherry dummy? Ive A) never heard of one and B) didnt think a hv would be encouraging a dummy.

Chulita · 26/10/2010 15:18

dh some of my bfing friends said the only dummy their little one was the Tommee Tippee Cherry, I tried it with Sam but then lost it and actually at 13 weeks I don't really want to start him on one now! Good weight! :)

cake we have an oil filled radiator too, haven't used it this winter but it kept the edge off DD's room last year quite effectively.

Chulita · 26/10/2010 15:18

[took]

CakeandRoses · 26/10/2010 15:31

chulita am impressed with your 30min sewing projects! i never do anything more than mend holes or sew buttons back on. you've inspired me to do a bit more. do you use a machine or by hand?

We have a couple of portable rads similar to oil-filled ones but at ds's age now i would be worried that he'd fiddle with it. Was your dd still in a cot last year?

dh have you tried dylan with dummy before? If not, perhaps try an orthodontic one first. We didn't give A one til 6 weeks in desperation to help her reflux - it's worked wonders. Dummies are great things in terms of calming babies (esp colicky ones) and reducing reflux so HVs shouldn't be anti them.

DS was so colicky that we used one within days, despite bf and there were no probs with that. By now, you should be fine.

We took ds's away at 6m with no issues.

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/10/2010 15:46

chulita yeah I just looked it up online and thats the one that came up. I dont know if he will take to it and I dont really want him dependant on one either. Might see how the settling goes first and if its dreadful I will try it.

cake yeah we've got 3, I only use them in extreme crying situations i.e not v often. He spits them out tho.

CakeandRoses · 26/10/2010 16:07

Tried A on the bumbo earlier and she loved it (ds hated it and used to throw himself out over the back)

mlic, o facebook guru of mine... can I post a pic of her on the fb group and if so will anyone other than the group be able to see it?

dh I know they're not the prettiest of things to see in a babies mouth but hell, if a dummy makes you and your baby's lives easier and more enjoyable then why not?

Cut yourself some slack!

cake I use a machine, it's amazing what you can do in 30 mins Wink We blocked the radiator dial bit against the wall and put stuff in the way so she couldn't reach the dial to twiddle it.

I've been looking at bumbos on ebay but they seem so expensive for the short time they use them. Doesn't help that postage is sky-high too cos they're so big to post! I'd like to try one though...

mlic what's he on antiB's for?

dh a dummy isn't the worst thing, I just don't want him relying on it but at the same time when he cries a lot I'd like to try it anyway! (mind you, mlic 's stories of waking up to pop it back in don't sound much fun, lol)

aaaaand he's awake again...only put him down 30 mins ago, enough time to do the washing up and sort some of dd's clothes, booooo!

CakeandRoses · 26/10/2010 16:54

chulita in all honesty, unless you can borrow a bumbo from someone I wouldn't bother, as like you said, they're in them for such a short time.

if i didn't already have ds's old one then i wouldn't have got A one.

mind you, my friend's baby would never lie on the floor/play gym etc without screaming so they found the bumbo a godsend and used it til she went in a high chair.

will see if we can be creative re placement of radiator!

Oh no mlic, poor W Sad

memphis83 · 26/10/2010 16:57

chulita im shocked too! my dh wants L on a quad at 2 and a mini motorcross bike at 3, so he will have him in a bed early on! y brother will go to a school where there are 34 in school, 8 in my sisters year!! so its pretty sheltered! (my sister had a bottle til...wait for it....9!!)
if Bumbos have a high re sale value wouldnt it be worth buying one and re sell it? i need to learn to sell on ebay!
mlic hope antibiotics work for W.
dh a cherry dummy is more rounded, i use orthodontic ones though, Lyndon just has his when he gets tired and naps in day and in bed at night, glad to hear a few have got rid of them early on i plan on doing this and people keep telling me i wont be able to and it will be a rough ride getting rid of it!!

memphis83 · 26/10/2010 16:58

cakes until in a highchair? oh dear am i a bad mummy, Lyndons been in his for a month!! (it is a well padded reclining one its the only way i get to eat if he sits at table with us! )

CakeandRoses · 26/10/2010 17:11

I just think I wont be able to fool him into thinking its my boob.

He is asleep on me now so dont really know how to go about it, he will wake up before I go to bed...its hard isnt it?

memphis83 · 26/10/2010 20:01

dh has he got a small comfort toy or blanket? when i was Lyndons i hook it in my bra strap for an hour or 2 so it has my smell on it, not sure if it works but worth a try maybe?

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/10/2010 20:19

Yes he has a comfortor in his moses basket, Im not sure he knows of its existence but would be a good idea to make it smell less of a factory and more like me!

Have decided Im going to get the dummy and start tomoro night (without the dummy) see how it goes, if its hell on earth, give him the dummy.
