The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

larrysgal - seriously, don't engage, it will do your blood pressure no good. Up at the top, under 'Talk:politics', it says start a new thread..blah blah... 'Hide this thread'. You want that one.

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 20:01

"here" should be "There" - missed the T off when I c&p'ed

giveitago · 11/05/2010 20:02

DP you say the bnp can change -well, if so, why don't you wait for them to change (for the better) before you sign up to them.

I'm stuck on this stormfront - it's bonkers. Are you telling me for real that white supremists get together online from across the globe for this?

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 11/05/2010 20:02

"I am not talking about EU workers..."
Glad to see you've moved on that far in your thinking, shame the rest of the BNP hasn't. They still want out of the EU to stop EU immigration, right?

"Do you think it's ok for us to house and feed pretty much anyone who turns up at our airports...?"
No, we don't, that's why we have the points system ,so you can only enter the country if you have, er, "a skill we need and we have the space for them".

And it has been explained to you many, many times that illegal immigrants/asylum seekers/whatever you have a bee in your bonnet about don't get benefits, do you really still not understand?

"They have full use of the NHS and our schools. "
So... you do understand they don't get benefits or housing? So why did you say that five minutes before?

daftpunk · 11/05/2010 20:04

Complimentary;

Nick Griffin is extremely intelligent, that's the thing, I'm not sure anyone else in the party comes close.

Actually, will take own advice and not engage.

A change is as good as a rest. Or something.

giveitago · 11/05/2010 20:05

And what I find bloody amazing about that website are the people who hate racism but defend the idea that races should not mix and the mixes produce some kind of monster society. Unbelievable.

giveitago. Recently their was a programme about Stormfront or those akin to them in Russia. It showed them training in combat gear and a woman was also involved, as I say Stormfront makes the BNP look like schoolgirls.
The programme also showed an immmigrant family whose young son was murdered on a train for no other reason other than he was foreign, apparently the programme intimated that the Russian Govt, was not interested in solving his murder. These people are truly terrifying.

TheSteelFairy2 · 11/05/2010 20:09

Excellent, a whole party who want to govern the country with ONE intelligent leader backed up by a load of thugs.

Oh wait, sounds familiar and that didn't turn out too well now did it?

thecatatemygymsuit · 11/05/2010 20:11

Brilliant posts by Toccata.
I feel proud that we allow asylum seekers into this country. They are seeking asylum after all, from war and tragedy.
Think about Anne Frank and the Dutch family that housed her. That is something we should aspire to, surely?

Off to form a coalition with my bed

Daft - when you awake please answer me these:

  1. My mum isn't white - she's born british abroad. Where would bnp send her home to given that the country in question a) isn't part of the British Empire any more - the very reason she was born a British citizen b) her country of birth isn't her country of origin.
  1. Where would they send me?
  1. Where would they send my son?
  1. OK, so you don't work as kid at primary school. How do you live? a) do you have a dp who funds your lifestyle and pay for your degree b) do have have any state funded assistance (family tax credit and child ben aside)?
  1. Back to my mother here - do you regard her as British - in the sense would the bnp see fit to offer her equality of access to jobs, education, health, the same for me and my son?
  1. What is the bnp policy on higher education? (out of interest).
TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 11/05/2010 21:14

cant even be arsed to read thread. is anyone else bored by this? DP is (once again) deliberately stirring and creating tension. we are (fortunately) a self-moderated site. I dont post on certain threads because I know I will end up offending or upsetting someone. its called being considerate. do you really think that posting about the BNP and what a great party they are is going to make mners say "OMG, you are right. lets burn books and hound people out of the country!" no. and if you dont see that then you are even more stupid that I thought.

giveitago · 11/05/2010 21:26

No it won't but it will get DP the attention she craves for being so 'other'. And we clearly have nothing else better to do.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2010 21:35

"Nick Griffin is extremely intelligent, that's the thing, I'm not sure anyone else in the party comes close. "

Well, I'm sure no one in the party comes close to his intelligence but I think that's a comment on the stupidity of the rest than a comment on his brain power.

smallorange · 11/05/2010 21:41

Here we go again.

DP couldn't you give it a rest now? Really, it's just tedious. And you are naive at best.

The BNp is a tinpot organisation of whackos, thugs and freaks.

God knows what their party conference looks like- The Chamber of Horrors, probably.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2010 21:42

Yes, very intelligent.

"I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that 6 million Jews were gassed and cremated and turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also also once held that the Earth was flat... I have reached the conclusion that the "extermination" tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter witch-hysteria."

MrsT30 · 11/05/2010 21:49

Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet (have read a few pages of this thread but not all 9 - bad form I know but have bed to go to) but the BNP DIDN'T get 10% of the vote as the OP says. They got 1.9% of the vote. So we can all rest assured that actually less than 2% of the population of this country really believe the racist spite and bigotry that they pedal.

smallorange · 11/05/2010 21:54

And all that happens is she fucks off for a bit, reading her favourite passages from Mein Kampf or something, and then tomorrow she will wheel out the same old nonsense and refuse to engage in any meaningful way, all the while keeping the BNP's profile up there and addressing her need for attention.

Anyway will not post any more

2shoes · 11/05/2010 22:13

Unfortunately, it's not always immediately obvious whether a poster is, in fact, a troll. We all tend to be a bit suspicious of new folks posting things of a sensitive or inflammatory nature, but we would rather Mumsnet erred on the side of giving folks the benefit of the doubt and risked being made to look a bit foolish than pounce on someone who turns out to be genuinely in need of help. We hope you agree.

Secondly, in our experience trolls thrive on attention ? the more aggressively you or we attack, the more likely they are to stick around and cause mayhem ? ignore their posts and usually they'll go away. Ban them and there's nothing to stop them returning with a new email address and identity (no website can stop that happening).

Having said that, whether posted by trolls or otherwise, we don't tolerate any unnecessarily abusive postings and would certainly ban anyone who was persistently doing this of kind of thing.

Quattrocento · 11/05/2010 22:20

Oh, you're back

You can't spell, you can't add up, your party has been comprehensively thrashed and you're still full of ridiculous triumphalism

I think you are quite mad.

daftpunk · 11/05/2010 22:25

MrsT30

Yep, my error was pointed out to me within about 30 seconds..I know the BNP didn't get 10% of the vote, the Liberals only got about 23% didn't they..?

1.9% is pretty impressive when you think about it...for a very small party.

OP posts:
Quattrocento · 11/05/2010 22:29

What is it about your life that makes you want to support a hate-filled, dysfunctional nasty party like the BNP?

I mean what? That's the real question of the thread

daftpunk · 11/05/2010 22:31

Who cares...I mean really, who cares about my spelling?

I rush... it's no big deal

I aim for about a 90% strike rate...only mess up about 10% of what I type.

I'm happy with that.
