The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

BNP voters fucking hate insert racist words for asian people, jewish people and black people here . you can't reason with people like that. cf: the 1930s.

the only way is to take the streets, which - by and large - us ethnics, commies, anarchists and race-mixers have done. while the liberals sat about wringing their hands and coming up with racism-lite, multiculturalism.

in 1979 the NF marched from Mile End to Hoxton Square and kicked an Asian man to death on the way.

try it now.

this might give you a better picture of how this all works:

daftpunk · 11/05/2010 17:34

Exactly.

How can anyone say that every single one of those 563,743 voters are racist.

It's ridiculous....how do they know ? do they know each of those voters personally..?

Coolfonz. take to the streets and do what?

Kaloki · 11/05/2010 17:38

"Most people are not racist, you cannot say that over 500,000 people are racist, some maybe, but the majority of them are not."

If you are going to vote for a party known predominantly for their racist views and connections then you either have to be racist, stupid or extremely naive.

There's no other excuse for supporting a party known to have extreme racist views.

giveitago · 11/05/2010 17:39

DP - you are somehow proud that half a million voters are nazi's.

My grandfather fought a war to keep them out.

explain yourself. And it's not about putting british born people, they are about curbing freedoms, putting women back in the dark ages, throwing non white people out by the hair, excluding disabled people. What's to be proud about?

And I do not buy those people who wanted to vote bnp as it's the only party dealing with immigration - it's the only party that has hate and civil war on its agenda.

BouncingTurtle · 11/05/2010 17:43

I'm British. The BNP certainly don't speak for me!
Maybe because I'm not a racist, homophobic, misogynistic hater of disabled children, like the BNP members are?

ohemgee · 11/05/2010 17:43

I have found DP's Achille's heel! Insult her sense of humour! Quick, everyone together now! We can defeat her in the manner of a tiny army in one of those films where there is a giant robot/dinosaur terrorising the streets of Tokyo/NY...we all just need to aim for her SOH!

Loving that there is sensible debate going on in the background!

EldritchCleavage · 11/05/2010 17:43

Dunno about that complimentary. Racist is as racist does.

EldritchCleavage · 11/05/2010 17:44

And voting BNP is v v racist.

Coolfonz · 11/05/2010 17:47

take the streets, not take to the streets. the fash lost the streets in 1981 and they never got them back.

complimentary · 11/05/2010 17:53

Eldritchcleavage. It is very simplistic to say that those who voted BNP are racist. I have known old people who have actually fought in WW2 say they will vote BNP, some black people vote for them and quite a few Asians. It's like saying oh, they voted BNP =racist, therefore we do not have to address the issues of why these people vote BNP, and we can also ignore the issues surrounding the rise of the BNP.

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 17:55

well the blacks and asians that voted for them are obviously a little thick then.........as why would the vote for a party that doesn't even think they should have the same rights as me? (white british)

giveitago · 11/05/2010 17:57

And dp your assessment is rather weak.

Not many people admit to voting bnp - why is that? Is it because they are actually voting for racism, the breaking up of democracy and hate? Yes.

However, on a more optimistic note - that's not many votes really is it? I mean there are some parties in europe with similar views that are in the mainstream. I'm proud we haven't gone down that route and we won't.

DP - please get this- it's only the deluded and racist who would give bnp any credibility. That's not that many. The rest of the nation like a liberal democracy which aims for equality and there are way way too many of us that have non-white blood - that equals not many votes for BNP.

DP- I very much hope that you do not spout your delusions to your children.

complimentary · 11/05/2010 17:59

toccanfudge. It does not make sense to say that Asians or black people, or others who vote BNP are thick, or racist , it does not make sense, it's like saying every person who voted for the Conservative party is a toff, or all Labour voters are working class.

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 18:00

but why would any sensible black or asian or any other race vote for a party who would treat them as second class citizens??

The rise of the BNP is a serious issue, and I feel should be debated in that way, name calling does not change peoples voting habits.

Blu · 11/05/2010 18:02

Oh, fgs, how many black or asian people vote BNP?

The BNP did manage to find one spokesperson who was anti-muslim from a religious background that has a long history of religious conflict with muslims...(and he may have been fake) and certain (Asian) aquaintances of DPs started a (fake, satirical) campaign in favour of the BNP and it's anti-immigration policies called Keep Britain Black...but citing black and Asian people as being BNP voters as evidence of its not being racist is fatuous. Even if some black and Asian Britons have questions about recent E European immigration (and I have heard that directly from some people) it has hardly driven them into the arms of the BNP.

I think one in 60 people voting for those idiots is quite scary actually.

giveitago · 11/05/2010 18:10

And BNP have no little sense of THEIR obligations of being a British citizen - ie being violent to hecklers and to the press.

Yes, we need a debate on immigration - we need to see where we're at in terms of facilities etc to house, educate and treat illnesses in the context of an economy that relies on migrant labour for growth.

But the BNP is NOT the arena for this debate.

DP - do you work?

Salbysea · 11/05/2010 18:12

I know a non-white BNP supporter. She seems to think that if the BNP clear out all the eastern europeans they'll stop at that.

When first they came for the criminals I did not speak
Then they began to take the jews
When they fetched the people who were member s of trades unions
I did not speak
Then they took the bible students
Round they took the homosexuals
Then they gathered up the students and the gypsies
I did not speak
I did not speak
Eventually they came for me there was no one left to speak
