The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

This thread makes me feel sick and want to burst into tears at the same time.

Giveitago;

Not every person who votes BNP are racist, infact I'd say it's less than 1%.

You'll get out and out racists in all parties anyway, so it's a bit silly to assume (for example) that every person who votes Labour, is as pure as the driven snow.

And yes, I would argue that the BNP are the only party who would deal with the immigration problem, they were certainly the only party talking about the problem, it wasn't even on the 3 main parties agenda until the the BNP did well in the local elections last year.

My own personal view is that people who possibly would have voted BNP voted for the conservatives, as they knew they had a better chance of getting MP's and bringing a bit of right-wing politics back....which is what the majority of the country wants.

we din't have a BNP person standing in our area(no suprise there tbh)
Imo there isn't a big rise in racism and bigotry, just now we have the WWW the bigots just find it easier to spread thier vile stuff.
I do wonder though why some one would join a pearenting site just to spout thier vile beliefs.
bored housewife??

"the immigration problem"

Explain to me DP in you own words what is problematic about immigration? I know what I think but I want to hear in YOUR own words what YOU personally find problematic about immigration?

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 18:27

well I voted Tory (I know Riven, 2Shoes the rest of ou shoot me now - but he's a decent MP and I figured I'll be f*cked no matter who gets in so may as well keep in the current bloke who does actually do some good on a local scale) but I would NEVER vote BNP.

We had a BNP candidate.......thankfully he didn't bother having any of his racist bullshit posted through my letter box

tvaerialmagpiebin · 11/05/2010 18:28

I've posted from www.hopenothate.org.uk before but I'll do it again. Then I'm hiding this thread as all this vile congratulatoryBS is making me queasy.

"The only difference between the BNP of today and the BNP of old is presentation. The BNP knew that to be electorally successful it had to improve its image. It is the image, rather than the fundamental politics, that has changed.

Too often we hear the BNP being described as "anti-immigration" or "nationalist" or even simply "rightwing". Nothing could be further from the truth.

The BNP leaders might wear snappy suits and tone down their public message but their real politics are the same as they have always been.

The BNP is racist and nazi and must be exposed as such."

No, I don't work, I'm currently doing a degree in PP&E, as soon as I get my degree I will get a job...hopefully in Local Government...That's the plan anyway...

My youngest child starts secondary school next year...I can't really work while he's still at primary....

Dear God Please NO!

giveitago · 11/05/2010 18:30

No you are wrong there dp - the parties have been talking about it - labour actually did something about non eu immigration and it's very hard to get into the country - believe me - I know - I was trying to recruit and the best professionals were from asia and it was almost impossible to get someone in.

EU is different and there's nothing to be done unless withrawing from the union is what people want.

DP - the absence of any proper policy on education, health, the economy, the elderly, the environment, international relations etc- their agenda is racist - forcing many British people out of the country. It would be like Uganda and Amin.

There would be a civil war.

Is that really what you aspire to?

SoupDragon · 11/05/2010 18:32

I've tried to think of something pithy to post but for some reason " fuck off you racist twat" keeps springing to mind. I don't know why.

TheSteelFairy2 · 11/05/2010 18:33

I second SoupDragon.

Daftpunk UKIP has and does address the issue of mass immigration so why not vote for them? Also IYO has the BNP changed how it operates?, I'm told now that it is now suited and booted in many respects. It has for instance turned up to UKIP conferences (suited and booted) pretending to be a member and handed out leaflets talking about "in fighting issues" and the person takes the leaflet, to find out that's its an offer to join the BNP. I'm also told that they continually ring various offices pleading to "get on board" UKIP can't stand them, why do they do it? So Daftpunk if you are in the know, and apparently you are, how has the BNP changed its tactics to get more votes?

daftpunk · 11/05/2010 18:47

giveitago;

I know there's nothing we can do about the EU, personally I'd like to come out of it, I don't see why some politician in Brussels decides what time my local pub shuts.

And yes, I know the BNP's policies could do with a little adjusting, nothing is set in stone, parties can adjust, look at Labour...I'm sure Michael Foot is turning in his grave.

Aren't Labour supposed to be anti-war..?

Isn't that why they were voted in after WW2..?

giveitago · 11/05/2010 18:55

Not convincing - BNP party is a mandate for hate and nothing more. You know it.

larrysgal · 11/05/2010 18:55

I think they were voted in to represent the trade unions that the BNP wants to ban actually, and for the welfare state and NHS which the BNP would dismantle.

daftpunk · 11/05/2010 19:03

They would pull out of Afghanistan, not another single young man or woman would be killed, the war is unwinnable...

Never mind about all the racist attacks and murders which go on in Britain wherever the BNP start throwing their weight around then, eh? Because those people don't matter, right?

complimentary · 11/05/2010 19:10

Stormfront are a Nazi group, akin to combat 18 I think, this group makes the BNP look like a bunch of choir girls!

SoupDragon · 11/05/2010 19:10

"not another single young man or woman would be killed"

but older, married people would still be killed?

complimentary · 11/05/2010 19:11

Above was addressed to giveitago.

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/05/2010 19:17

i hate the BNP and all they stand for but the shame of it is that the BNP do "pull" people in by having one or two policies which on the face of it seem perfectly reasonable, i know thats how they reeled some of the people i know in.

i know some very silly women who are very anti immigration, i know some of them were talking about voting BNP or UKIP.

people just dont realise what would happen if the BNP did get some power - then they would show their true colours.

i think they tried to go "respectable" and decided to brush up nick griffin, make him look like a politician, give the party a face.

im sooooo glad it didnt work.
