The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

Daftpunk. I have had a laugh on this thread tonight, why do people take all this so seriously? In fact I bet many of them were going to go to blockbusters to get a film, (sorry, they went bust)but decided this jolly banter/entertainment was for free.

i say DP should stay put.

i am totally anti the BNP and all they stand for. i hate racism and bigotry so why should people be allowed to try and run one poster off a site of 800,000 people - im sure DP isnt alone in her views but has the balls to say what she thinks.
everyone is allowed an opinion. no one has to agree with it.

i personally find this site to be a very interesting place because its self moderating and because nothing is banned. i like that fact. no one single poster should be run off the site for her opinions. thats just plain wrong and as short sighted as the view being challenged by DP.

do people really not see the irony in trying to ban one person? or insult one person on the basis of what she says? irony people. look it up.

complimentary · 15/05/2010 22:02

Theshreikingharpy. Many of the posters could be banned, quite a few make personal attacks on her, but she does not report them. If you look at the guidelines it says that personal attacks are not allowed. To her credit, she does not report them. I think some MNs have tried to orchestrate a ban of her by MNHQ.

(sorry should not have said that, it's not PC).

BecauseImWorthIt · 15/05/2010 22:14

I am quite happy for DP to post about her views, even if I think them vile. I am a passionate believer in free speech.

However, what DP does goes way beyond this.

And if aren't a regular reader of her posts you may not realise what she does.

But she states her opinions and then refuses to debate her points. This being MN, lots of people would love to debate the issues with her.

But she refuses to engage or debate, and posts increasingly inflammatory stuff - which escalates to personal attacks. However, she is very clever about the manner in which she does this, never using bad language and always going for insinuation rather than outright insult. But it is insulting nevertheless.

Those of you here who are defending her have clearly never read her posts over the last few months, as they have become more and more unpleasant.

The move to ban her is not about banning free speech, but is about banning her deliberate attacks on other posters and their religious or lifestyle choices, or the realities of their children's lives.

However, she has promised that this is to be her last post for the next three months, so all I can say is perhaps we should just keep this post bumped until it reaches its natural conclusion?

pinkfizzle · 15/05/2010 22:14

It was asked why do people take all this so seriously?

I think it is because DP expresses her views on the BNP and is a BNP Activist and offends people frequently.

And many many mumsnetters believe that the BNP has NO place in a Democratic Britain.

In addition her repetitive posting style is well known.

Oh and Complimentary, DaftPunk does report posters - she has made that clear on other threads.

pinkfizzle · 15/05/2010 22:21

...and just quickly BIAWI - can you tell me about this move to ban DP - I don't want to hijack the thread but have a number of mumsnetters requested she be banned?

I may be out of touch? ( I got tired of the all the bnp threads around Election Time).

Biwi.....what are you doing...?

Stooooooooooooooooooooop..!

Oh re; me reporting people;

Up until about a month ago I had only reported 2 posts in 2.5 yrs.

I reported 4 posters on a thread about a month ago, the only reason I reported them was because they had all name-changed to personally attack me....bloody cowards..

That's 6 posts in over 2 and a half years...check with MNHQ if you want confirmation.

If I reported every personal attack on me MN would explode...
