UKIP want us out of the EU, I love Europe can't stand the EU.We pay 40 million a day to them
1)72% of our laws are now made in Brussells, from fuel taxes, farming, fishing and immigration.
2)We pay £40 million a day to be in the EU.
3)The Two richest countries in Europe-Norway and Switzerland are not even in the EU.
4)Under labour we now have 3.5 million extra people living in this country. We need proper border controls. Nick Cleggs policy is to count people in and out of the country, and force them to work in 'regions' totally unworkable. UKIP would keep our proud tradition of helping genuine asylum seekers.
5)UKIP does not appear to be anti-christian as do the other parties. The labour parties spin doctor Alistair Campbell said they "don't do God!" I do.
6)UKIP believes in holding referendums for the electorate on key local and international issues. I like this.
7)Crime is now out of contol, UKIP would build more prisons. Last but not least, Lord Pearson (leader) is 'posh' and does not try to hide it.

yes, damn that multiculturalism that has given us pizza, spaghetti, curries, bordeaux and champagne, levis , converse, Gap, citroen , mercedes , audi cars , oreo biscuits, noodles, stir fries, denim , louis vuitton, jimmy choo, prada, dior, chanel, revlon, waffles, and probably a lot of other brands/foods/items/words and phrases that are used daily in this country and many others

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:10

fish 'n' chips
seaside holidays
wonderful poetry, art & literature
a great film industry
beautiful scenery
optimism mixed with that stiff upper lip
courage

weloveyoumisshannigan · 26/04/2010 19:22

If not met a single person or seen any evidence that anyone has "self loathing for all things British/English". Where are these people?

What is this 'culture' that is replacing 'British culture' and what would be left of British culture if we removed all external influence. Do we really want a Britain without ice cream, fish and chips and doughnuts?

What does 'british culture' mean to you?

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:27

the only people i see loathing britain and its inhabitants are supporters of the BNP/UKIP etc

crystal123 · 26/04/2010 19:32

Coolfonz. British Culture. Something you know nothing about.

Hully
here he is in all his glory

Or perhaps you prefer the Griffin?

Mmmm - a difficult choice, eh?

crystal123 · 26/04/2010 19:37

Lulumamm. The people who loath this country are not UKIP, but people like you.

OP posts:
Coolfonz · 26/04/2010 19:45

Crystal123 - what is British culture? Can you explain it? Doesn't sound like you can.

Fish 'n' chips - sorry f&c is Jewish food, brought to the east end by Jews from Europe in the 1800s. Fried fish in batter? With pickles. Basically eastern European food. We're lucky they didn't start selling fish ball soup...or Gefilte fish...oish...

Seaside holidays - everywhere with a coast has a seaside.

Wonderful poetry, art & literature - everywhere has that.

A great film industry - I'll take your word for it. Not intrinsically British though, it's a French invention done very well by the US and India.

Beautiful scenery - every country has beautiful scenery, even Belgium.

Optimism mixed with that stiff upper lip
courage - very vague, a lot of places have stoicism.

So try again. What is British culture?

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:48

those were my obviously crap suggestions for what british culture is

tbh, i don't spend that much time thinking about it, and trying to define it, my life and my family's life is so much more than trying to fit into a narrow pigeon hole of what is british/acceptable

probably because i have immigrant great grandparents and am jewish..

trying to fit our country and all its people into a box/narrow definition is impossible, not something i really want to aim for

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:49

crysatl, what makes you see me and people like me 'loathe' this country??

because we don't hate all people of differetns colours, creeds, faiths and sexuality

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:50

and re my post on multiculturalism.. if you ever eat or drink any of the things i mentioned or bought any of thse brands, surely that is multicultural??

Coolfonz · 26/04/2010 19:52

Lulumaam - oh sorry.

C123 - what is British culture? Define it for us.

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:54

I think the british culture and what it means to be british means so many different things to everyone who lives here

maybe the royal family would feature on someone elses list, or the house of parliament, or horse racing , or crown green bowling or cricket ...

Coolfonz · 26/04/2010 19:56

No such thing as multi culturalism. All human cultures are basically the same. There is only multi ethnicity or multi racial societies, if race actually exists.

The concept of multiculturalism was driven by the right/liberals. As you would expect from political groups like that, it is divisive. No such thing exists.

claig · 26/04/2010 19:58

Coolfonz, do Pakistanis have a culture, does India have a culture?
Lulumaam, do Jewish people have a culture?
Do Italians have a culture?
Do the French have a culture?

Are you of the mind that it is only the British that do not have a culture?

PrincessFiorimonde · 26/04/2010 20:03

Or perhaps I should just say, all joking apart, that I find some of the posts on this thread deeply offensive.

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 20:06

no, i am not of that mind at all, i listed several things taht i perceive as british culture, DH and i were talking earlier about converitible cars, and how it always makes me smile when i see them, we get about 2 sunny months a year here.. it is that quintissential british optimism !!

but what i do think is that british culture is different for so many people on so many levels

for goodness sake, our favourite national dish is the chicken tikka masala !

my jewish culture is very different to my cousins who follwo a much stricter branch of the religion and much differtn to my friends who follow a v relaxed branch.. we're all still jewish, but our cultures/lifestyles are very differnt

so i think it is impossible and wrong to try to define british cultyure and being british as a set list of things

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 20:07

I am quite offended that crystal thinks i loathe britain, when she is the one emigraing.

claig · 26/04/2010 20:12

British culture is what makes us unique and different to people of other cultures. Your Jewish culture, however lax it may be, makes you different to non-Jewish people who do not share that culture. Orthodox Jews who follow the traditions of Judaism are unique and are different to people who have different cultures. We are all formed by the traditions and cultures in which we are brought up and we share a common culture with those of our culture. This is real diversity, we are not all the same, we really are diverse, we really do have different cultures and traditions.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 26/04/2010 20:13

It's an accusation that's thrown around a lot, isn't it? About British culture being under threat from... whatever.

So go on, you right-wing types, tell us;

What elements of British culture are most important to you (or to British identity)?

Which elements of British culture seem particularly under threat?

Genuine question. Talk away.

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 20:15

i thikn we are agreeing claig?

I am still waiting for crystal et al to come up with the evidence of our cultre being eroded/islamified

Fliight · 26/04/2010 20:16

Lulumaam, could i just say something which is this: youare arguing sensibly, calmly and thoughtfully with a bunch of arrogant, irrational, nonsense spouting and rather nasty sounding twits.

Every word that falls from your lovely lips is wasted on these eejits.

I gave up the other day when it became plain that they cannot listen, they cannot learn

they just spout and spout.

You have a lot more dignity than any one of them.
