Find out how powerful your vote is compared to the UK average

I live in a safe seat, my vote is worthless.

lilmissmummy · 05/05/2010 12:48

Ultra safe Tory seat with 0.0047% vote. We rank 513 out 450 in the voter power index.

off to check my family results! Really interesting.

walkthedinosaur · 05/05/2010 12:55

I'm in a very marginal seat where we have 3.99x more voting power than the UK average.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 05/05/2010 12:58

0.088

Pogleswood · 05/05/2010 12:59

524 out of 650,vote power 0.044 - another Tory safe seat here!
I would love to live in a marginal,I have always voted but I've always lived in a safe seat,it is beginning to frustrate me that my vote is effectively worthless...

lostinwales · 05/05/2010 13:15

4.1x more power than the average vote! Wow, we are ranked no6 and are very marginal, not that I wasn't going to vote anyway but I shall now be going round instructing everyone that it is their DUTY! (prob going to be v unpopular after school today!)

Bramshott · 05/05/2010 13:22

I think there might have been boundary changes in Gloucester GOML - there was some mention of it on the website. I guess large swathes of Glos are solid Tory territory!

As an aside - can I interest you in a free family concert I'm organising in Highnam on 23rd May?!?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/05/2010 13:27

ooh we are no 10 out of 650

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/05/2010 13:28

4.01x more voting power than the UK average

3cutedarlings · 05/05/2010 13:40

Hmm well my vote stands for nothing!!! 650/650 other voters in the UK have 100x more voting power! so should i just not bother?

Ultra save labour seat - which im actually quite surprised about i thought the lib dems would have done much better here.....

Mermaidspam · 05/05/2010 13:59

0.003 here

ProfessorLaytonIsMyProxyVoter · 05/05/2010 14:29

.679, 2.69 times more than average and #71 out of 650 constituencies.

Do you think I could make them dance for my vote?

southlundon · 05/05/2010 14:31

Oricella you beat my 0.014 of a vote! I thought I'd be in the safest - boo

fernie3 · 05/05/2010 14:34

mine is "very marginal" aparently 3.16x more voting power than the UK average.

fernie3 · 05/05/2010 14:35

oh thats 0.798 votes

islandofsodor · 05/05/2010 14:35

Marginal constituency. I quite like my local MP, not so sure about her party's policies though. I have just found out that there is a UKIP candidate from a local well know food shop owner.

lucykate · 05/05/2010 14:36

mine is 0.053%, ultra safe tory

Hathor · 05/05/2010 14:43

Very interesting if you are not sure who to vote for.

TartanKnickers · 05/05/2010 14:54

0.004 Ultra Safe - doesn't seem worth going out to vote but I will anyway.

helyg · 05/05/2010 14:57

Does anyone know where the most powerful voters are?

We (Ceredigion) are #2 with our votes being worth 1.22 votes each. Does anyone know who is #1?

BlameItOnTheBogey · 05/05/2010 15:02

I am delighted that I live in a marginal seat. We really don't know which way it is going to go (last time there were only about 300 votes between first and second place). It's really exciting!

GrimmaTheNome · 05/05/2010 15:05

I'm in a very safe seat. Its still important that everyone votes as the real views of the population will be vital to the electoral reform debate which is likely to ensue.

fernie3 · 05/05/2010 15:10

I know BlameItOnTheBogey I have a new found enthusiasm for it all now!. Last election here (apparently) was conservative winner but only a tiny bit (less than 1%)so now i am voting first thing tomorrow lol.

pigsinmud · 05/05/2010 15:18

0.073 here Ultra safe Tory.

Will this sort of thing make people think it's not worth voting? People who don't vote drive me mad.

JumpJockey · 05/05/2010 15:20

0.225 - 236 out of 650. Apparently it's because we're a larger than usual constituency.

Can anyone explain that to me, actually? How is it that even after they redrew the boundaries, our constituency MP represents 80,000 people when the average is about 68,000? Surely the population can't be changing that dramatically between each election - or are there just lots of semi-rotten boroughs around the country where the electorate comprises 4 men and a donkey?
