Find out how powerful your vote is compared to the UK average

I live in a safe seat, my vote is worthless.

Surprised to discover that my constituency is only a 'fairly safe' tory seat. I thought it would be the toriest seat in the country!

MerlinsBeard · 09/04/2010 12:44

The average UK voter has 2x more power than voters in [town where i live]

Granny23 · 09/04/2010 12:46

My constituency is ranked 37 and rated very marginal. However, I have only 0.825 of a vote because it is a huge one - 70,732 voters. Which might explain why there is little chance of a candidate appearing on YOUR doorstep.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 09/04/2010 12:47

My constituency and postcode apparently don't exist Bit worrying!

MerlinsBeard · 09/04/2010 12:50

0.126 here in a lib dem seat (if that is what the yellow men mean!)

Surprisingly large amount of voters though - i thought it would be less.

Number of voters: 62,996

Average constituency: 68,433

paisleyleaf · 09/04/2010 12:50

Voter power 0.030
It's depressing really isn't it. Around half the voters in my area did not vote for the winning candidate.

SweetGrapes · 09/04/2010 12:53

My postcode also didn't exist till I put it in capitals and with the space in between the 2 parts.

Now I find I have .835 of a vote!

Fennel · 09/04/2010 12:54

ours isn't ultra-safe, a fairly safe lib dem seat, but I don't want to vote for either of the main parties there anyway so in that sense my vote would be worthless if I voted for a party I actually wanted.

wubblybubbly · 09/04/2010 12:58

We're a fairly safe seat, 0.253, which is just about average (that's the story of my life)

Though not sure how accurate it is, since the constituency it named is not where I live It's brought up a small town about 5 miles away?

I'll try my old postcode, see what it says.

LadyPeterWimsey · 09/04/2010 13:01

I got 0.885 and very marginal.

I guess my vote is worth something. I wonder if we're going to get much attention, though, as we are not in the main town in the constituency.

wubblybubbly · 09/04/2010 13:02

Nope, that postcode isn't listed. Nor is that of my GP, library or dentist. My constituency doesn't exist!

Ultra safe tory seat, always has been, suspect it always will be. Though he is currently in hiding so it's possible the bad press might have shaved some numbers off of his massive majority!

dhruvisintheheart · 09/04/2010 13:10

Mine doesn't exist either and I've tried it every which way. I had to put in the constituency name instead.

glasgowlass · 09/04/2010 13:10

Prosecco I am in the same constituency as you!!

My vote is worth 0.017, rank 595 of 650 and an ultra safe seat. Still voting anyway!

AbsOfCroissant · 09/04/2010 13:14

Mine is VERY safe Labour seat. There are about 20% more voters in this consituency than the average, which is odd, because I never thought of it being a particularly residential area. Hm. And, 55% of the people did not vote for the candidate in the 2005 election. First Past the Post sucks.

CaptainNancy · 09/04/2010 13:14

It's not particularly cool- I live in a new constituency, but it doesn't recognise that and lists the old (ultra safe) one

LittleWhiteWolf · 09/04/2010 13:19

Wow, I'm in a different constituency than I thought! Apparently I'm in Banburys constituency which is larger than average by about 20,000 voters so one voter is apparently less likely to affect the national vote.

My DH and I have been sent through 2 polling cards each...do we get 4 votes?

megapixels · 09/04/2010 13:24

Mine is worth 0.7 and ranked 66 out of 650.

confusedfirsttimemum · 09/04/2010 13:26

Jeez, I am in an ultra safe seat ranked in the high 500s. The average voter has 8.5x my voting power.

Quite frankly, I might as well not bother....

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 09/04/2010 13:30

0.017

v depressing

wubblybubbly · 09/04/2010 13:37

I tried the postcode every which way, no joy. I've put the name of the constituency, as Dhruvisintheheart (great name!) suggested and that has worked!

I'm now on 0.013, 611 out of 650 and the average vote is 20x more powerful than mine! No longer average

MissAnneElk · 09/04/2010 13:47

captainnancy, our boundary has moved and it still shows us in the old constituency. It does look as though my vote may count now that the boundaries have moved which is good news.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 09/04/2010 14:00

It doesn't take my postcode whichever way I put it in. Our constituency is changing for this election but it doesn't recognise the current one or the new one either.
