Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

Palestine Action attacked and damaged aircraft at RAF Brize Norton and they had other RAF bases listed as potential future targets.

It would have been a better move to just charge everyone connected with actions or the lists with terrorism rather than prescribing the group. I know this sounds ridiculous in many ways but arresting hundreds of people for holding signs achieves nothing other than something for them to boost about on Christmas cards it seems

It will be interesting to see what happens in Thursday's by-election in Holborn&St Pancras. It may be that the Green's appeal to sectarianism, which this vote is very much part of, will pay off. However they will be up against Labour's appeal to sectarianism.

Whoever wins, it shows our democracy is in a pretty poor state and with demographic change, the sectarianism, tribalism and intolerance are likely to increase.

Very concerning.

Yes, my point was if the Fairford van men are terrorists, why not Palestine Action.

Why can't the Iranians be using some of the Palestine Action lot?

They'd be stupid not to, give half a chance.

Well there is strong evidence that Hamas has often used the Pal solidarity groups or members to do its bidding in the UK. So it is totally plausible that pal action members could get instructions from Iranian. Whether there is usable evidence of that is what matters.

You agree that they are a group who prepare and carry out acts of terrorism but you don't think that they should be proscribed as a terrorist organisation which gives the govt greater powers to deal with them and shut down their operations because they have a shield of elderly nobheads?

oh right. True. They should both have been charged with terrorist v offences but yes, if c the IRGG are behind Fairford ( likely) why are c they not proscribed? The Iranian regime has millions invested in London. Maybe that's why?

The old folk with flags and signs are not the problem. The way in which the arrests of them is portrayed to the general public is one of the main issues. The general public including vulnerable young minds are not as knowledgeable about things as your wise long necked self or my truely wonderful self.

Arresting what people see as granny and grandad for expressing their concern for the poor harmless pals does not stop attacks or help make Jews safe or help gazens. What it does is cause a sympathy towards and create more followers for pal action.

The government already have powers to deal with lone terrorists and having more to deal with pal action as a group is unlikely to stop the hardcore members that are brainwashed to the point of not worrying about going to prison. They will be martyrs to their cause after all.

Totally accept my opinion may be wrong on this but this is how I view it.

Some of them call for the de proscription of Hamas which is inexplicable unless they are in their pay or linked to them in some way. The marchers seem to have got more and more bold in their chants and have gone from ' We are against Hamas but pro Palestinian to almost being pro Hamas

Well, we all saw what happened on that march when that poor man had the temerity to have a placard with "Hamas is Terrorist" on it.
Was he welcome? No, he was attacked.
Proof indeed of the viewpoint of these hate marchers. Certainly not against Hamas, certainly not for peace.

It’s awful that you are made to feel this way 💔💐

Thank you.. I’ve never felt it here before, ever, always disagreed when anyone mentioned it just thinking it was a small minority of people who felt that way. I can’t now. I’m Jewish, born and bred in uk, happily went to Carol service at school and have friends of every faith. I’m not responsible for any decisions the Israeli government make. If you met me you wouldn’t know I was Jewish. Yet I have to think twice about attending a wedding or service in a synagogue here now. So it’s lovely for me to read this thread and know not everyone here hates Jews.

Hamas and pal solidarity groups there is real evidence that isn't argued about by many people

They have had know Hamas members (supposedly ex Hamas) organising various marches and protests). Before the 7th Oct attack on of the groups was emailed various instructions to organise and gain permission for protest after the attack (I think the date for following weekend can'trememberoff hand). Money has gone through pal solidarity group via third party NGOs directly to Hamas. Plus a shed load of other factually evidence that pal solidarity is and always has been used by Hamas to gain support in the UK and influence politicians

Well, we certainly don't. 💙
Unfortunately, a vocal minority have become very powerful, emboldened by those awful hate marches. They are narrow minded, ignorant and arrogant. They've latched onto something beyond their understanding and are willing fools for the Islamists and general antisemites. They have undermined tolerance and understanding in favour of fashionable slogans.
You're not alone, take heart from that.

I understand it when it comes to my more moderate Muslim female friends. Though they may complain to me about various issues in their own family or community regarding their treatment as females eg all the females in the family once had their phones taken away from them by a relative. They won't say anything negative about Islam or something of the less desirable teachings or leaders. It goes against what they believe Mo has said to criticise Islam and women will only get to heaven if not negative or critical of their husbands etc. For men the belief in Islam when the die is enough to insure they get a place in heaven but women are not guaranteed this. They have to earn it by being obedient and very few women pass this test. Therefore Muslim women know exactly what Islam is like for most other Muslim women around the world but dare not speak out if they truly believe in the afterlife.

Why western women defend Islam is because of ignorance mostly. However some do understand how horrible Islam can be for a lot of women but don't actually care about that as much their own crackpot politics and world view.

a) Ignorance. “All religions have some form of love thy neighbour/do as you would be done by, so ‘true’ Islam also does.” (TBH I don’t know.)

b) Culture. Islam is strong in cultures that oppress women. “It’s not the religion, it’s the culture.”

c) Naive Western supremacism: “If we remove their oppression (ie by the West/by dictators/by Israel) and give them the opportunity to blossom into Western civilisation, they, too will be feminists, just like the West.”

They broke a police woman’s spine with a sledgehammer. You’d think that would give people pause for thought, but dear god the arguments I’ve had on here where people have tried to justify it.

I know. I find it totally inexplicable that she could support that kind of action. She's always been into left-wing things - spent time at the Greenham Common women's peace camp in the early 80s, but this is radically different.

Kemi Badenoch 'appalled' and 'embarrassed' by Green Party Zionism vote

Kemi Badenoch has told ITV News' Political Editor, Robert Peston she thinks the Green Party is "full of a lot of people who are antisemites and are quite frankly not okay".

Badenoch said she was "appalled" by a vote at the Green Party conference over the weekend, in which members defined Zionism as racism.

The leader of the opposition said she was "embarrassed that a political party in this country would actually do something like that".

Badenoch reiterated her support for the state of Israel and finding a two-state solution.

Yes, but these are precisely the people that become the 'willing fools' for Islam. Its entirely consistent with left wing ideology as they see Palestinians as the oppressed good guys and Jews as the colonising bad guys.

Therefore Palestine Action are heroes because they're fighting the Palestinian cause and the ends justify the means and all that.

I was at Greenham Common too. But somewhere along the line I stopped seeing the Islamists and their supporters as the ones who can do no wrong. Events have shown otherwise.

Perhaps she's always been a bit prejudiced against Jews and this has enabled it to come out? Or never really valued liberal democracy?

Yes, to be honest I think Andy Burnham should have come out with a statement like this. The Greens new policy is serious enough that the leader of the Labour Party should have come out with a strong message rather than just the education minister.

So do I!

I get that he doesn't want to say anything that could be deemed controversial with the Holborn by election on Thursday (basically a 2 horse race between Labour and the Green party). But come on!

We want to see some leadership from him and a clear response to this awful vote by the Greens.
