Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

Lets hope this is the start of the implosion of the green party. The veil has dropped and it's now clear for everyone see how they are intrinsically anti Semitic at heart. Many of us have known this for years, but hopefully the rest of the British public will now wake up.

I don't think that's quite correct, I think they don't see their antisemitism as antisemitism. Like, Holocaust denial is antisemitism and bad, but banging on about Zionists being evil is fine.

I was sure Corbyn had said that antisemitism was bad so I googled and found
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45058728

And guess what. It's about how Labour didn't want to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism. They had a problem with one of its examples which they didn't agree with. What was the example of antisemitism that they didn't agree with?

"claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavour"

So Labour under Corbyn didn't want 'Zionism is racism' to count as antisemitism.

Greens want 'Zionism is racism' to be party policy.

Very fitting example you have found

However though certain people may just not see their own Jew hate as Jew hate there were definitely those that just didn't believe Jew hate was racism. This is the same today. They argue that Jews are not a race or ethnicity because come from different places and can be of different skin colours. Basically they just believe that it is a religion so does not count as racism. This definition they argue for is important to understand when looking at why the far left hate Jews so much and how they justify it to themselves.

They say that like a “gotcha” don’t they.

Like they have found a loophole whereby it’s ok to discriminate/be hateful against one particular group of people.

It's acceptable hate for some people.

I read the information from the Green Party; they support "a single democratic Palestinian State in all of historic Palestine".
So they want to get rid of Jordan, too?

ScarlettOYara · Yesterday 06:25

If it wasn't so offensive, I'd laugh at the word "democratic" before the words Palestinian State.

Labour MPs report the Green party to the police

More than a dozen Labour MPs have reported the Green party to Sussex police and the EHRC over its ‘Zionism is racism’ policy, The Spectator can reveal.

Politicians, led by former Home Office minister Mike Tapp and Labour Friends of Israel chair, Mark Sewards, urged police in Brighton to examine whether events at the Green conference may have crossed into criminally actionable racial or religious hatred against Jewish people.

The MPs point to delegates chanting ‘say it loud, say it clear, Zionists are not welcome here’ as a potential legal flashpoint, questioning whether the term ‘Zionist’ was being used as a proxy for Jewish people. They have asked Sussex police to examine whether the Public Order Act may have been breached.

The complaint to the EHRC, meanwhile, centres on whether the Green party’s new anti-Zionist policy – particularly its rejection of protections for members affiliated with synagogues and Jewish organisations – could result in unlawful discrimination against Jewish members.

Yesterday, the KC Adam Wagner argued that ‘there is a strong risk that the motion as passed contravenes the Equality Act 2010, which applies to political parties, as it will discriminate against and harass people who hold Zionist beliefs and Jewish people more generally.’

The letter, addressed to EHRC chair Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson, is signed by 18 Labour MPs: Mike Tapp, Mark Sewards, David Taylor, Steve Yemm, Rachel Blake, Sam Carling, Mike Reader, Mary Creagh, Jess Asato, Luke Akehurst, Jon Pearce, Peter Swallow, Jim Dickson, Preet Kaur Gill, Anna Gelderd, Sharon Hodgson, Damien Egan and Claire Hazelgrove.

Jordan is more a product of British imperialism and interference than Israel is.

It also already is a largely Palestinian state. They kicked out a load of Palestinians back into the the West Bank after they, instead of living peacefully decided to try and overthrow the Monarchy and launch attacks on Israel. Egypt doesn't want Gaza either for the same reason- Hamas will try to destabilise the country and overthrow the government. Yet the Greens think this large group of militants are going to live happily ever after with Jews, moderate Muslims or any other group when they launch attacks on them from any possible surrounding country at every opportunity?

Douglasmummy · Yesterday 07:21

This. Why haven't they spoken up, spoken out?
Why are they like sheep?

I suspect most of the newcomers ( the majority of members now) agree with it. It's why they joined.

This is absolutely terrible and I’m disgusted by the Green Party specifically and all the rhetoric generally that has led to this situation. I am glad that Jewish posters feel supported on this thread as I imagine it is rare, especially with the awful shite I have seen on citme.

There was a thread about the omnicause the other day and it was full of posters who didn’t believe it was a concept or that it was a collection of beliefs, independently held, that just showed you were right thinking. Well here we are. What a mess and how ignorant people are. We sleepwalk into extremism and every person pointing it out on the way is dismissed, I really do hope the many posters on here who carp on about how empathic they are and how caring and in the same breath say something appalling antisemitic are able to finally take a look in the mirror.

It's part of their magical thinking/disguising the reality behind their viewpoint. In the same vein as 'Israel is allowed to defend itself but only if they cause zero casualties and meet other impossible standards to do it'. In reality, yes, it means all the Jews would be killed and displaced, and they don't think Israel should be allowed to defend itself - but they know that doesn't sound good.

This is why I'm glad the Greens have explicitly called for the destruction of Israel and creation of a single Palestinian state. Because if they hadn't, that's what they would in reality be arguing for anyway, and I don't think it would have sparked any of this outrage.

ScarlettOYara · Yesterday 07:39

I wonder if they imagine, @Twiglets1, that the moment the Israelis are driven out that this mythical ", democratic Palestinian State" will magically appear? Perhaps along the lines of a socialist Scandinavian country, with equality, trade unions and a Gay Pride every year?

It's very possible that they imagine - and will likely be correct imagining - that within a few years the one " democratic Palestinian State" will be predominantly Muslim and Jewish people the minority group.

It's upsetting - but it's also honest for once about how extreme they have become. The extremists within that party have been hiding in plain sight but now we can all see them clearly.

Last year I looked into attending a weekend woodworking thing, sort of like diy skills and building. I thought it would be a nice way to spend a few days and learn something useful.

Except when I looked through the photos they had massive trans flags and palestine flags all over the place. So obviously I dodn’t book it in the end - I didn’t want to spend the weekend with a bunch of idiots.

But I kept thinking - what the fuck have they got to do with woodwork and carpentry?

Is it just everywhere now? You can’t buy a fucking cup of coffee without a palestinian flag being waved at you.

Ha, this literally happened to me a few months ago - went to the local coffee shop, only to be presented with a huge Palestinian flag wrapped around their counter.
I wonder how much whoever put it there actually knew about the very complex conflict in the Middle East.

I doubt it very much.
Somebody once told me that the Israelis had occupied Gaza since 1948. I asked about the Egyptian military occupation until 1967, and they were bamboozled.
So no, they mostly have no idea.

No chance. It's just their opportunity to flaunt their 'love'. Look at me, aren't I a loving caring person because I hate Israel. No nuance, no brains.

And they think that no Jews lived in Israel until 1948.

They are completely ignorant that Jews have lived continuously in Israel since the beginning of recorded history, with written evidence stretching back over 2000y. They also are completely ignorant that decades before 1948 there was already a functioning Jewish community in Israel, with all the features of a sovereign state - except statehood, of course - such as governance, legal justice, education to university level, social care, and a public health care system that predates the NHS.

That's my view as well. I would much rather the anti semites, racists and homophobes openly expressed their views so that I can easily know who and what to avoid.
