Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

The police could ban it, but they won't. They never do and their tolerance (and that of subsequent governments) of the extremists has only emboldened them, as shown by the Green Party.

Presumably Polanski has hit the point on his useful idiot journey when he stops being useful. Its been said for a while that if he loses in Holborn, he'll be turfed out.

We should all pray to whatever God we believe in or no God that he doesn’t win the Holborn seat.

Well he skipped the "we don't know or care what zionism means" vote to go back on his campaign trail. How very convenient.

I live rurally, and know no Jews locally, but I have Jewish friends from university. One said to me last summer that, growing up, he felt that the human race had really begun to put antisemitism behind it, but in retrospect it had been a golden age, and now it was back to business as usual.

It was a comment that felt so honest, but was also deeply depressing.

I'm not Jewish, but I've been a Zionist since my teens. I absolutely despair at what Britain in turning into - at what it had already become. I'm not a confrontational person (though if I'm pushed I will stand my ground), but I so wish I was better at objecting calmly when people come out with the usual bullshit. I've found that the best question to ask when anyone brings up Gaza is, 'So what should Israel have done... no, not what they should not have done, what should they have done to free their hostages when up against a terrorist army embedded in civilian areas?'

I've had the tab open for a few days, and I'm about to go and join this organisation:
https://www.ourfight.uk/support-us/, of non-Jews supporting British Jews. Podcast Against Antisemitism had a good interview with its founder, if anyone is interested.

It’s pretty small. It exists, I know a couple of people there but I don’t think it’s more than a couple of hundred people. It’s 0.1% of the population of Norwich so perfectly likely not to have meet any

oh I didn't realise it was so small. My ex mil ( and I suppose my ex husband) is Jewish and from Norwich so every time we went we met loads of Jewish people and atheists of Jewish descent. I assumed it was larger!

The Jewish community group he spoke to handed him his arse on a plate so I guess he's already lost their vote before this. Let's hope he loses more votes too. I wouldn't be surprised if some areas of that constituency are pleased he's ' stood up to the Zio's Jews

Twiglets1 · 05/10/2026 07:22

Yes exactly.

Dressed up like a kind thing to do when actually it's just WTF?? You are acknowledging that your Jewish members may need a safe space - at your own party conference!!!

Israel is the safe space for Jewish people from what I read on these boards and yet.... How many other people in your life are telling you they're just frightened that they won't see the signs till too late.
A march for Palestine on 7/10 of all days. Might as well sling on a black shirt and be honest about your real motivations. Shame on them all.

I wouldn't be surprised either. I hate what the UK has become. We are harbouring terrorists and some of their associates are campaigning to influence our politics. It's a gradual process but it's unfolding across the pond as well. We really are screwed.

WorriedMutha · 05/10/2026 09:27

As bleak as things may look today, in the bigger picture the Greens have rendered themselves unelectable to the mainstream. I'm in London and During the locals people voted Green as a protest citing Starmer, student fees, Palestine and generally nothing is getting better. The Greens have now fully outed themselves and I know replaying some of the conversations I had that the scales will have fallen from the eyes of most of those voters. Good riddance. The trash has taken itself out and can join Your Party on the dung heap.

1dayatatime · 05/10/2026 09:30

It's interesting that in the opinion polls a large part of the "Burnham Bounce" has come from a reduction in the percentage of voters that previously supported the Greens . Meanwhile the vote on the right continues to be fragmented between Conservative, Reform and Restore.

WinterGold · 05/10/2026 09:34

The consequences of 7/10 and the rise of the Pro Palestinian movement have just become a lightning rod for antisemitic rhetoric. It’s become an opportune moment to “legitimise” and bring a radical agenda into standard political discourse.

Several years ago, my sympathies tended to be towards Gaza, but since the massacre of 7/10, watching We Will Dance Again and the rabid fanaticism, hate and blatant racism that has been displayed by the followers of Free Palestine, I now consider myself a Gentile Zionist and strongly support its agenda and policies.

Bringemout · 05/10/2026 09:40

Also their position on the IRGC, they don’t want an organisation that is behind at least 20 potential terror attacks in UK soil proscribed. An organisation that allows girls as young as 9 to be married off an routinely oppresses women including raping them before execution as policy. Edited to include the 100’000 Iranians they murdered. Someone on here once tried to tell me iranian women love their hijabs, I was like “well they wouldn’t need laws and morality police would they then”.

it’s literally like Islamists are wearing a green party skin suit. They are disgusting.

It’s pure third worldism and it’s destructive.

I don’t get how ZP wants the Muslim vote for his party

he is gay Jewish and has crap teeth
why would he want to support & pander to people who say that being gay is a sin and hate Jews

they use to be all about the environment
WTF happened to them

It is so odd isn’t it. Like all the trans/rainbow clad people screaming Zionist and nazi You want to shake them and say these people would exterminate you , they want you dead.

middle aged women as well, why do you care so much about Palestine, what is it activating in people’s brains?

It's completely illogical. How do they imagine Jews, women, gay people and trans people would fare in Palestine or any of these Islamist regimes? Do they think they'd have a warm welcome and freedom of lifestyle and expression?

I don't disagree with you. I had the misfortune to be in Birmingham city centre when one of the marches for Palestine was going on. Some of the chanting was anti Semitic and vile, the police did absolutely nothing

You should have a look at what's happening in some state secondary schools. I've been teaching a long time, and haven't seen so much antisemitism before. It's pernicious.

I think also what doesn’t make sense is criticism of Israel for being an ethno state, whilst gaza and the west bank are overwhelmingly muslim. Also if we are saying that only indigenous populations (and here I disagree that Jews are not indigenous to Israel, archaeology demonstrates this) can live on particular pieces of land then aren’t they just agreeing with ethno- nationlists, like the ones who would like to deport every single ethnic minority from the UK.

Google's Gemini disagrees with ChatGPT: it says 75% of synagogues are in Greater London, even if the other 25% were scattered throughout Wales/Scotland and the rest of England there's not going to be a synagogue within 10 miles for 75% of total population.

Then 60% of British Jews live in Greater London so it's very easy to believe most British people have never met a Jewish person.

Thanks for the correction - I have lived most of my life in London and Hertfordshire where Jewish people are a significant part of the racial mix. I accept that there are large parts of the country where there are very few Jewish people, but (for example) someone living in Cornwall might not always have lived in Cornwall - they may have lived and/or gone to university somewhere else.
