Who obfusticates about being a landlord?

I’ve just looked up the recent interview I was remembering and it’s Green Party co-deputy leader Rachel Millward. She refused to answer on BBC Politics Live whether she was a landlord while defending co-deputy leader Mothin Ali's rental properties.

I did look up whether there were similar Labour politicians pretending to be champions of the ordinary working people, whilst simultaneously earning a wedge passively through property acquisition and it will not surprise you to know that there indeed was.

So, you have found a Green MP who obfusticated, and some Labour MPs who are landlords, and you've cobbled the two together to claim Labour MPs obfusticate about being landlords? That's a bit weak, no?

Politicians of all parties are secretive about their personal wealth - I think there should be greater transparency across the board.

She should have just been direct and said 'I currently earn money from this but am willing to give it up if there is a law change.'

The Green Party person will be equally affected by any change in law, and are willing to give that income up.

A lot of what is badged hypocrisy is really just not stating directly.

Politicians when starting out are not great, getting used to media takes time.

It takes a lot of training and even then some stay rubbish for their whole careers!

The Greens in particular need training as they've gone from nowhere to winning by elections very quickly. Hannah Spencer had a baptism of fire.

The more the two-party system breaks down, the more work there will be for media trainers.

It was not a serious question obviously, but politicians from all parties are people.

Their supporters are also people. Not sheep, not harpies.

I agree it would be disrespectful to say that union members are too stupid to understand but since I didn't say anything of the sort it's weird that you would bring that into it. Perhaps try with an actual argument next time rather than a strawman.

Such an odd take. Some people of any political leaning are prone to tribalism. There’s factions on the left just as there are on the right.

A bit stupid of the Greens to put someone up whose life clashes with such a policy. A couple of years ago Labour had more landlord MPs than any other party. Personally I don’t see the issue provided they are upfront about it and we have decent regulation that roots out the crappy landlords. The ones who try to hide it are missing a trick, they should use themselves as an example of a good landlord providing safe and decent housing for a fair rent.
