John Healey, who quit as Keir Starmer's defence secretary last month, has been pictured walking up Downing Street - is he about to be reinstated as Defence Secretary, I wonder.

Ed Miliband and Shabana Mahmood also photographed walking up Downing Street together - but we still don't which positions they will be given in Cabinet.

Lisa Nandy had gone in …

Now let's hope he doesn't ruin it by bringing Rayner in.

I would imagine he has no choice but to put her somewhere.

Health and social care?

Health and social care?

Good call

I actually think she would be perfect in that role.

I do too - if he needs to put her in. She's got the background for it as well.

Hard agree.

Be politically daft to put her anywhere.

Health & Social Care or Education maybe?

Who would you like to see in Education?

Who's out so far:

Jo Stevens out as Welsh secretary.

Darren Jones sacked from cabinet.

Liz Kendall no longer science and technology secretary.

Jones sealed his fate on Question Time!

Yes. Also if Burnham is going to tackle social care once and for all, she knows what she’s talking about, and she actually does get things done. I’m not a huge Rayner fan but she covered a show on LBC the other week and an hour was on social care. What struck me was how she was clearly listening to callers. It was a very interesting hour listen and I learned a lot.

Itsxalso an area that should curb her temper. We might see the softer side.

Rayner is a loose cannon. Something Burnham cannot afford to have.

Twiglets1 · 20/07/2026 19:22

Ed Miliband has told BBC political editor Chris Mason it is the "honour of my life" to serve as foreign secretary.

Speaking as he left No 10 following his appointment, he said: "My parents came here as Jewish refugees fleeing from the Nazis, and for them, Britain provided sanctuary and a beacon of hope in the fight against fascism".

He added that at a time "when values of democracy, the rule of law and freedom are under threat as never before", he would "carry that spirit, their spirit, into my work as foreign secretary".

That will be his cabinet undoing.

Twiglets1 · 20/07/2026 19:24

Shabana Mahmood, who has retained her role as home secretary, says it is an "honour" to keep the job.

In a post on X, alongside a picture of her and Burnham holding hands and smiling, she writes: "I may be biased, but it's the best job in the business.

"We have begun the work of major reform, to make our streets safer and our immigration system fair for all. Now let’s finish the job."
