I have to confess I don't fully appreciate the relevance of meeting Charlie boy. The last article might have answered that ( behind a pay wall). Is it merely a symbolic statement. I don't fully appreciate what Charles has to offer and his role in any of this.

Yes it's symbolic. Charles meets who he is told to meet, but it's an unequivocal statement of support by the UK.

I think it was added onto the itinerary deliberately because Trump was so delighted by his very special invite to meet the King.

Charles is the Head of State of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Charles is following the stated UK government position on Ukraine... full support in the face of Russian aggression. If he's doing so with genuine enthusiasm, good for him, but either way he does as the government of the day directs.

He could very easily have said, "Lovely idea, let's meet in a few months at our usual place" rather than "Come over Sunday evening while I'm chilling at home"

It was known before the meeting went south.

I remember it being commented about in a thread here. That it was actually more of an impact than the state visit as the state visit is at the “official palace” or whatever whereas this visit was at Charles’s residence- his home. More intimate but less pompous and that Trump wouldn’t even realise he was being played as he would just assume Sandringham as less impactful not more.

The meeting was arranged a while ago. Before the spat with Trump.

I wonder if trump will try and hold Charles’ hand.

Charles was carrying out royal duties. That's what he does as King.

It wasn't an impromptu playdate. It was a scheduled meeting. And being 'fully supportive', warm and welcoming of the country fighting a Russian invasion is government policy. Carrying out government policy is Charles' job, and he's well paid to work on Sundays, often does.

What do you mean by 'showing his true colours' here OP? The articles linked generally portray the meeting in a positive light so it's a little confusing, unless you also meant the statement in a positive way.

I recall the time in 2015 when Charles skipped the State banquet during the visit of the President of China and won a lot of brownie points. Sadly as King he will less able to make such personal statements, the Governemnt of the day determine his schedule regarding foreign dignitaries.

Weird title, makes it sound like he's been overheard on a hot mic saying he loves Trump or something. Monarch of nation that - along with the rest of the 'civilised' world - supports the Ukrainian president, supporting the Ukrainian president, is hardly surprising. I'd be astonished if he didn't. I'm very happy we as a country are making it so clear.
