Or has Trump's re-election essentially been his death-knell?

I hope note

i suspect he will be exiled, in which case the UK might give him asuylum

poor man

GnomeDePlume · 19/02/2025 08:01

I hope he stays safe.

Trump & Putin are both petty, vengeful and spiteful men. I think both are capable of signing off on an assassination attempt. Putin, because he cannot tolerate being thwarted. Trump, because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Zalensky will need to watch his back for so long as Putin has any sort of power.

I wasn't deleted, my comment was deleted (because some person decided to report something truthful). This thread is utterly repulsive. Bowing out seeing as MN won't do anything about it.

Edited

What do you find repulsive about it? I think a lot of people are concerned on here for Zelensky's safety. That's not repulsive, surely?

And technically you're right but it looks like you're deleting yourself now.

As I said, I'm bowing out of this particular vile thread. I'm not deleting myself. Have a pleasant day.

What??? No! How on earth did you get that from what I wrote. I absolutely do not condone that.

I thought exactly the same! I read your post 3 times and was Confused

Yes I suspect so, putin made a huge mistake invading Ukraine and I suspect he knows it. The negative propoganda of him taking Zelensky out would be huge and they will want to rebuild reputation. So yes, I think he will be fine.

when I first visited Moscow over two decades ago, it was a very poor place, putin, did a huge amount to build it, it became almost westernised, and the wealth was palpable just before the war. Moscow full of luxury. Of course the poverty still visible in the outlying regions.

he then ruined that overnight, by invading Ukraine, in a war he felt would be over in two weeks. The damage he has inflicted on Russia he will fully understand. No one should think only Ukraine has suffered here.

in addition then west will not remove putin, because of all the people who will likely come next, all bar one are worse than Putin. And pose a signficant threat. Bigger than he does. Way way bigger.

The west will try to keep both Zelenskyy and Putin in power. And there will be a lot of behind the scenes negotiating we won’t hear about, for example sanctions being lifted, support agreed, Zelensky’s postion. it will not be as the headlines tell us.

the reality is trump and the Americans already know the outcome of this. As do Zelensky and Putin. Trump is simply taking lead to allow Putin to save face. And get this finished.

Zonder · 19/02/2025 08:45

I admire your optimism @Queenofthejabs it would be lovely if you were right. I'm not convinced though.

BeyondMyWits · 19/02/2025 08:53

He'll be fine, at least until some time after the war is ended, and Trump has been given his Nobel Peace prize marking him as a great humanitarian, going down in history as one of the great and the good etc.... (I wish I was kidding)

GnomeDePlume · 19/02/2025 09:18

@Queenofthejabs while Putin may be the least worst option for the West I don't think he is beyond authorising an 'unfortunate accident' for Zelensky out of petty, spiteful revenge.

Trump views the world as real estate. If he can't get his percentage then he isn't interested. He wouldn't lift a finger to protect Zelensky unless he saw money in it.

At the moment Trump is drunk on power. He also has a toddler's understanding of consequences. I could see him giving a nod to an assassination attempt though he wouldn't get his big felt tip pen out. He would enjoy boasting about it to Putin especially if he could claim he got there first.

@MNHQ Why was my very brief comment stating I had reported this thread deleted? The post consisted of a three-letter acronym commonly used to express consternation or alarm, followed by the word "Reported." My report request clearly detailed my concerns about its premise.

I reported the thread as felt it is in profoundly poor taste; it is grim to speculate as to the life-expectancy of a currently healthy adult male, with the implication that his health status depends on outside forces contriving to do him harm. The life or death of another human being is not a spectator sport.

The phrasing 'Do you think Zelensky will be alive a year from now?' feels repulsive to me. There are so many other ways to express concern for the wellbeing of another human being who is in real and present danger, without making it sound as if you're taking bets.

It cheapens what must be a terrifying situation for his family and loved ones and not least Mr Zelensky himself. The disconnect between a poster sitting comfortably at their keyboard, presumably in peace-time UK, musing about Zelensky's vitals in a year's time, and how grimly this may play out, is eye-popping to me, and reeks of privilege.

Indeed. I said I was bowing out, and I definitely need to do that now.
This thread is horrible. Imagine you are related to this man, and then read it again - would you like someone discussing the potential extermination of your husband or son or father?

Presumably someone reported your posts, and MNHQ just read the word “reported” and jumped to the conclusion that you were troll hunting. TBH I would either contact them off board or put a message on site stuff querying why and how much of the report they actually read.

That's very subjective, as you say - you feel...

Others may feel it's a tragic possibility and worth bearing in mind in these dangerous times. I would hope we are all wishing for Zelensky's success and longevity.

I think if I were Mrs Z I would already be very aware of this possibility and be glad that other people were too.

Not discussing it at length does not mean we are not aware of it!
I also wouldn't like to pretend I have any clue what his family are going through or feel like. A random person on MN isn't going to change their lives.

I've given up trying to understand the logic behind what MN delete tbh.

Never2many · 19/02/2025 10:37

he’s in the public eye. He’s involved in one of the most prominent wars in the common era, and it’s incredibly common for people who have pissed off Putin to have freak accidents not long after the event. It would be naive not to think this is the likely outcome.

personally I think they all tread a fine line. Zelensky Included, and I don’t quite see him as the hero that some on here seem to. That doesn’t mean that one would wish death on him, but knowing what we know about Putin we know the possibilities.

As for saying things like “imagine his family were reading this,” that is just pure virtue signalling.

These people live shady lives. They associate daily with people who have the ability and sometimes the wish to do them harm.

When you get involved in this life that’s what you sign up to, and they all know it. So quite aside from the fact that Zelensky's family aren’t reading MN, none of them are going to come across such speculation online and be surprised or upset by it. This is their life and they know how that might end.

And also they have similar capacity to end the lives of others who have gone against them.

At least Trump can tell whether it is Zelensky or Putin. Biden could not even know who was who? We all saw it Ms America.

Zelensky is simply standing up for his country and it's right to sovereignty. I hope he manages to secure something of value and the country moves on.

I really wish we had made more of an effort to protect the Ukraine before the invasion as I don't believe Putin would have gone up against NATO.

Had the Ukraine not stood firm then the Ukraine would now be Russia

NATO had been in Ukraine for years before the invasion. It was NATO being in Ukraine that precipitated the invasion. Ukraine needed less NATO not more NATO.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 19/02/2025 11:26

I hope Zelensky is around for many, many years to come. However, there's a couple of other presidents I'd like to see choke on their fucking easter eggs.

Nottodaty · 19/02/2025 11:27

Trump isn’t doing negotiations for the greater good…he wants something …Putin is at least clear with his wants Ukraine to surrender and a puppet election to ensure its Putin that is ‘elected’

My fear is what does Trump want and why….access to minerals that Elon needs cheaply for a battery or something for his rocket, Or is it just to make sure Trump has a further hand on Europe….threat of gas being turned of or access who knows.

Trump said America first what he actually means..is him, his VERY rich mates first and that’s it. He is a dictator and a narcissist. He always has an angle it’s just what is now he is after - and he isn’t thinking of the Ukraine people at all.

BeardofHagrid · 19/02/2025 11:43

Not dead but serving a long sentence in a penal colony for his many crimes as the unelected dictator* of Ukraine (corruption and money-laundering for starters). Same for wifey.

*He has banned wartime elections

Mittens67 · 19/02/2025 11:50

Some posters here are either disingenuous or do not read the news.
I hope Zelensky can be persuaded to get to somewhere safe out of easy reach for Putin but given he refused to leave his country in order to defend them before and given even Salisbury isn’t safe from that psychopath then I am very concerned for his safety.
