Ukip in crisis: Nigel Farage could resign again

Oh my God, what are they doing to the people's party?

They've done us up like a kipper for the second time in less than a week.
There's 4 million votes on the line and they are playing us like a fiddle, having a right laugh.

I think, the "people" never actually were. The party (with the possible exception of Douglas Carsewell) is actually nothing more than a bunch of egotistical famewhore men shouting a lot and pretending they are the centre of the universe. The election simply proved that their comedy value was limited .

claig · 14/05/2015 14:49

Patrick O'Flynn said that there are some "wrong'uns" advising Farage, and that could be right. I have had my doubts about some of them. The real question is if so why are they there and who put them there and is someone having a laugh at the public's expense.

Arron Banks, one of UKIP's millionaire backers, rightly supports Farage and says that Carswell won 25,000 votes, but Farage won the remaining millions.

The real question is who is orchestrating this chaos and who is having a laugh?

"having a right laugh"

I seem to recall you applauding the UKIP jolly japes and ability to "have a laugh" on a recent thread about UKIP support and teens, claig. Tide turned?

ouryve · 14/05/2015 14:55

I predicted they'd implode. How else could they do that without playing out a proper British face?

ouryve · 14/05/2015 14:55

farce.

claig · 14/05/2015 14:58

'Tide turned?'

Not at all. I thnk it is funny and am laughing at how they have stitched us up once again. You have to hand it to them, they are top class.

It is difficult to know who exactly is for real in UKIP. Someone is having a game and a laugh within it, but who?

We will doubtless see more clearly what is going on over time.

OP posts:
claig · 14/05/2015 14:59

'a proper British farce'

Yes it is a farce, but who is writing the script?

OP posts:
Isitmebut · 14/05/2015 15:02

Most of my opinions are on the other running UKIP thread, I can't be arsked to go through it again.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/politics/2378147-Police-fraud-probe-in-South-Thanet

"They" are other people in UKIP who feel Farage is being badly advised by his closest UKIP advisors, no doubt down the pub where all important decisions are made.

"They" feel UKIP is making a mistake trying to emulate the anger of the U.S. Republican far right 'Tea Party' movement, as counselled by those UKIP advisors.

"They" believed Farage's gesture politics saying he would resign if lost, made him look a numb-nuts, his return before his office seat got cold, a mistake.

As for the "4 million votes on the line", I have a newsflash, you can't carry them forward to the next show like the finalists of a TV singing contest, they were only valid for the day.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 14/05/2015 15:06

You are laughing at being made a fool of by a party you felt had your best interests at heart and you vehemently defend on here?

"They" think your support is a joke. You are a joke. They are laughing at you.

Top class comedy indeed.

claig · 14/05/2015 15:11

"You are laughing at being made a fool of by a party you felt had your best interests at heart and you vehemently defend on here?"

I am laughing because life is a laugh, you mustn't take anything too seriously. "Always look on the bright side of life" as Monty Python said. We are often being played and conned and it may be happening again.

Why has Farage employed this relatively new team of advisers (one of whom may well be a "wrong'un")? Could Farage be the one having a laugh? I know it is heresy to even think such a thing, but could it be true?

I know it is heresy to say so, but is Farage having a laugh?

I'm just watching Stuart Wheeler on the BBC news, still a financial backer, rescued the party around the 2010 general Election, then stepped back from day-to-day involvement.

He just said that he thinks Farage should step down, and new talent become a leader - and pushed for names, said there were few, and pushed further said 'obviously Carswell our only MP is one' - he personally approached when Carswell was a sitting Conservative MP and got him to defect.

Wheeler feels that that UKIP has to move on from those 4 million voters and appeal to all the undecided and less extreme voters - so now we know where Patrick "they" O'Flynn's opinion comes from.

Wheeler was asked to leave the Conservative Party as backing UKIP as well, now he's backing another leader within UKIP - slippery or what.

claig · 14/05/2015 15:21

I am not a fan of Wheeler. It was reported that he wanted UKIP to find a role as a candidate for Neil Hamilton against what was reported to be Farage's wishes. It was also reported that he would rejoin the Tories but only with Boris Johnson as leader.

It is very difficult to know who is for real in UKIP, because the Establishment will have made sure to have people in at the top trying to end UKIP.

' slippery or what'

You said it, not me.

OP posts:
claig · 14/05/2015 15:25

House of Cards has nothing on what goes on in UKIP, and the Establishment will pull every trick in the book to try and stop them.

“Stuart Wheeler (born 30 January 1935) is a British businessman and politician. He made his fortune as the founder of the spread betting firm IG Index in 1974, but is best known for his political activism,[1] being formerly a major donor to the Conservative Party and, since 2011, treasurer of the United Kingdom Independence Party.”

”I would rejoin Tories... but only with Boris as a leader, says (Wheeler) mastermind who plotted coup from his castle”

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2738810/I-rejoin-Tories-Boris-leader-says-mastermind-plotted-coup-castle.html
• Stuart Wheeler lit the fuse on the 'Carswell coup' over a secret lunch
• He has been wining and dining a number of dissatisfied Tory MPs
• Former Tory said he would not return to the party with Cameron as leader
• But that could change if Boris took over and brought in Ukip-friendly policies

Fickle or what?

Thank god Cameron is still leader, who WOULD have resigned for good if couldn't get an EU Referendum with a parliamentary majority - not that I think there would be any Wheeler way back to the Conservatives.

claig · 14/05/2015 15:31

Isit, UKIP helped the Tories. They took votes off Labour in the Midlands and North. They ended up with only one seat taken from the Tories.

Are UKIP, the Tories' secret weapon? Is it time for them to be disbanded or set back now that they have no use until possibly 2020 when they will again take votes from Labour?

OP posts:
claig · 14/05/2015 15:34

Will UKIP disintegrate and fall apart just before the EU Referendum vote only to regroup to take votes off Labour in 2020?

Anything is possible with UKIP, because someone somewhere is having a right laugh.

OP posts:
fascicle · 14/05/2015 15:41

Why are you surprised, claig? UKIP is a shambolic party, full of contradictions. Its demise is inevitable. And don't overestimate the value of 4 million (protest) votes.

Martin Bell wrote a piece yesterday, on the merits of Douglas Carswell becoming an independent. Let's hope he gives it some thought:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/may/13/ukip-douglas-carswell-independent-mp

As for Nigel having a laugh, he seems increasingly irascible these days.

Isitmebut · 14/05/2015 15:43

Claig .... your UKIP 'helper of the Tories', who's 3% of the votes in 2010 cost them a majority but could have resulted in chaos for the country - and who's recent 18% Farage was looking to improve on, would have produced more chaos and gladly let in a pro EU Labour/SNP coalition. Guffaw

Let your Cameron hating boss Mr Putin, find his own Conservative Party stalking horse, don't ask my advice just because they want to change jockeys.

claig · 14/05/2015 15:44

If Carswell became an independent, I think he would lose the seat next time to UKIP. He may appeal to Martin Bell and the metropolitan elite, but I don't think he could appeal to the people of Clacton over UKIP.
