Still angry, I hope the protests on the 3rd of March all over the country really keep this campaign lit, it makes me furious to think people seem to assume it has been sorted.

I will boycott every company that uses schemes like this until they are ended completely.

EDLP why should people not be PAYED fairly for their work, these businesses can afford to pay them, they are making BILLIONS in profits at taxpayers expense - do you really think that is okay?

A thirty hour week working nightshift, stacking shelves for about £2 an hour - you really think that is acceptable?

Tiredmumno1 · 23/02/2012 00:19

So how exactly do you pick these few then?

EauDeLaPoisson · 23/02/2012 00:20

Is nobody reading what I have written? I said for the twentieth time non profit making organisations

TapselteerieO · 23/02/2012 00:20

tiredmum - I can't get your link to work.

I need to go to bed, will be back tomorrow. I'm glad people are still interested in fighting this!

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 00:21

And i have explained twenty fuckin times why that is a conflict of interest.

EauDeLaPoisson · 23/02/2012 00:21

Those who've been on benefits long enough to have found suitable employment those who have failed to show evidence of seeking work those who've turned down jobs not attended interviews etc etc...

TapselteerieO · 23/02/2012 00:22

MaryZ a small proportion have got jobs, I don't know the exact numbers right now, I hope your ds gets work.

Is there any need to swear purely because someone offers an alternative view point??

Pickgo · 23/02/2012 00:22

Knowing 'several people' who live for years on £67 a week is called anecdotal evidence. It is not accepted as legitimate because it is a very small sample and your own personal experience. Do you have any properly evidenced statistics to support your claim?... Nah cors ya dont!!

As others have pointed out, the companies that use Mandatory workers not only get free labour (so don't need to pay to employ staff) but they are also paid I think it's £1500 per Mandatory worker of taxpayer's money by the Gov. Now that's what I call a scandalous use of public resources.

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 00:23

turn to bbc parliament NOW

Tiredmumno1 · 23/02/2012 00:30

Well if you failed to show a job search or turned down a job you would be sanctioned anyway Hmm

Tiredmumno1 · 23/02/2012 00:31

Could one of you kind ladies repost the link for taps please Smile

BreconBeBuggered · 23/02/2012 00:35

And don't forget, there's a much bigger payout for placing 'clients' on sickness-related ESA on the Work Programme. So there's a huge incentive to pull in those who have already been declared unfit for work by a pretty tough assessment process.

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 00:38

Brecon there was a young woman from Boycott Workfare on the Daily politics show (i just caught a repeat on bbc parliament) she mentioned the same things you mentioned and about the disabled and terminally ill being forced to work for free. Some Tory MP tried to shut her up but she managed to get it out there.

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 00:41

Poisson there is swearing in the title of the thread so if it offends you so much.........

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 00:43

..........then surely you wouldnt have come on this thread

EauDeLaPoisson · 23/02/2012 00:45

Carer I'm not offended by swearing- I am offended by being swore at however

stella1w · 23/02/2012 00:51

Am boycotting Tesco and shopping at Sainsbury. Amazed that charities are supporting this disgraceful scheme. If you are going to offer someone work pay NMW. End of story..

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 00:52

Then i apologise. This is a very emotive issue especially as these "work placements" are being extended to ill and disabled people.

EauDeLaPoisson · 23/02/2012 00:55

No problem. I for the record don't agree with multi billion pound companies benefitting from something like this at all and wouldn't expect anyone to do full time work for ten pence or whatever an hour.
And I'm also appalled they are focusing on those who cannot and should not be working rather than focusing on the minority of career claimants

stella1w · 23/02/2012 01:00

is there an online petition to be signed?

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 01:06

Poisson thats the problem They are constantly moving the goalposts on DLA and ESA so that ill people have no choice but to claim JSA and so end up on these "schemes"

carernotasaint · 23/02/2012 01:10

And now Gove the Education Secretary wants to toughen up the exam system.
Prepare to start failing your exams he says.
Of course more young people without these qualifications will then have to sign on and end up on these "work for your dole" schemes.
Cynical me?

youngermother1 · 23/02/2012 01:13

50% of young people who went on the scheme have subsequently found work, and it does not especially benefit the employers as they have to train and monitor the staff

Pickgo · 23/02/2012 01:14

Anyone heard of this report into the trial scheme they did under Pathways to Work last year?..... words fail me. Angry
