Fed up of the ConDems robbing the poorest and most vulnerable blind? Sympathetic to the squeezed middle? Have you eyes that can see the horrors that await the dismantling of our welfare state and all that is great and good in UK?

Then you're a frother. This is our safe-space to rally, vent and get organised. You are also welcome if you want to be better informed and/or do something.

Will do, Te.

KnottyJustForChristmas · 16/12/2011 18:35

Four brings to mind the horsemen of the apocolypse: war, strife, famine, and pestilence.

There's a fair bit of that on its way. How depressing.

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 18:45

Hey I've been off doing stuff with the boy (napping - both of us Blush).

I like the 12 days of Christmas very much. It starts on Christmas Day 25th though. Not Boxing day.

I have question about military cuts. Is there likely to be a lot of support for that when we're still involved in an illegal war? Maybe something less obvious like cuts to Sure Start which contains things like baby music classes or music therapy that was previously paid by DLA which is going?

Also, just a comment. I went over to the first thread to remind myself what was really important and pushing people's buttons. Can we try to incorporate some of these things without looking too gimmicky? The evidence for stripping students is wobbly at best and we don't want to look superficial.

I've cut and pasted some of the things from the first thread:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Fawcett society have good stuff)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment
  • Workfare
  • Withdrawal of Connexions services
  • Privatisation of our schools via free schools and academies
  • PFI
  • Energy companies making a profit out of the poor.
  • Cuts to benefits for disabled
  • Cuts to benefits for working poor

Particular bills that are concerning: Welfare reform, NHS reform Health & Social Care.

Kate
I have seen different versions of when it starts, either Xmas Day or 26th. The Google was not clear on this (have taken to calling it this, after reading the teaching my mum to c&p thread).

How is your DS doing?

ShirleyKnot · 16/12/2011 19:11

Mme - can I just check that the post I wrote which is cued up is not linked to my MN name (either of them) at all please lovely?

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 19:12

Oh blimey. I just looked it up. My whole understanding of 12 days of Christmas and when twelfth night is appear to be completely wrong and out of sync. But more importantly does not add up!

I thought 12th night was 6th January. But apparently the days actually start in the night of something?? and start on 25th and finish on 5th?? This is quite a good article if you're interested. I had no idea there was any doubt, even though when I started counting from 25th the twelfth day is 5th Jan...

DS is ratty and clingy. I think I need a big drink but I have yet another cold

Is The Google the same as T'Interweb?

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 19:18

Course not Julia. The Google is an actual creature. The t'interweb is just computers talking to each other.

Hello!
Can I ask a question? Where did this frothing thing come from? I thought 'frothing berserkers' was a phrase that HullyGully used to describe DM reader 'it's PC GORN MAAAD', AIBU about the slightest mad things types. Am I wrong about the etymology, or has it been re-invented?

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 19:31

Shirl
The one queued up is written as "Guest Frother" - you can a pseudonym if you want, just tell me and I will add one. Will check the other one, but the two are not linked.

Blu
Kate talked of frothing, no idea if it was a Hullyism.

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 19:35

ok, checked the other one. It is written as PS. Not sure if I can change that, would you like Te or Font to try?

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 19:36

Yes I wrote this post, using Hully's terminology www.mumsnet.com/Talk/politics/1353521-Im-not-quite-a-frothing-berserker-but-I-am-getting-rather-cross-with-our-government-messing-with-the-good-stuff and it's sort of stuck.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 16/12/2011 19:37

It is indeed mine, Blu, it has been adapted - the title of the thread that started all this off was something like, "I'm not a Frothing Berserker, but..."

I will attempt to post my pome on Sun, no guarantees of teccy success of course. And I have a houseful of guests and 50 for luncheon - but I am made of stern British Froth and shall have a bash.

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 19:42

T'was a bastardisation homage.

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 19:45

Hully
You can post it now with a time and date you want it auto-published.

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 19:54

I have some information about how resources for NHS services like breastfeeding support and health visiting services are not being allocated based on clinical need but are only being sent to areas regarded as deprived because of the way the funding is structured.

However, due to the way this information came to me, I do not think it would appropriate for me to publish it but I could maybe mention it to a friend in passing, perhaps by PM and point in the right direction??

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 16/12/2011 20:50

Lots for me to read to catch up...OM, excellent blog - have emailed and highlighted it to my MP.

I really like the Twelve Days of Christmas - I must say I thought Christmas night was the first, but I may be wrong Grin

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 16/12/2011 20:59

Just catching up

And bumping

And reminding everyone I am still here

KateMiddlet0n · 16/12/2011 22:56

Oh lordy. A perfectly nice looking lady has made reference to frothing from one's gusset on Twitter. What is the correct reply to that?!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 16/12/2011 22:58

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 23:08

haha. I saw that and thought, "that is one of those words that always gets mentioned on the words-that-make-my-teeth-itch threads".

Moist gussets, is I think the one that most MNetters objected to.

Funny that.
